The figure wins out in the articulation and accessories but I think the HG's proportions are better. personally will stick with the HG because the upcoming stand for Aerial will get the gund bits pose I want so the only relevant win for me here straight up disappears. Also I'm pretty sure you meant the figure had a better ankle because to my experience the HG has a wonderful knee, and personally the shield for the HG works better for me since it just looks sharper.
To anyone buying from hobby link Japan keep in mind if you live in the us any figure you buy will have a $30 shipping fee added to it .ALWAYS check the shipping fee if you buy from there
Definitely one of the cooler comparison videos I've watched in a while. I always learn a little something about the hobby also when I watch your videos! thank you!
Hello Mecha It’s been a while since your last update. Happy New Year. Whatever you been up to I hope you are doing well. Looking forward to your new video, always.
I got both. I think the HG looks sharper and better. Especially with the HG’s clear parts, but I wanted a playable figure. Therefore, I got the Robot Spirits too. Also, the ver anime line is great.
Your videos have been wonderful for somebody new into the hobby. I must've watched 50+ before even attempting my first gunpla. I originally bought a RG Wing that I was gonna do for my first build before I found out that RG was harder than HG lol. But I finally got my HG Aerial and that's gonna be my first actual build. Just waiting on some tools in the mail now :)
@@sweetinvictus654 That's definitely good to know. I think I'll give it a shot after my Aerial then. I was gonna build the other four from the G-Team (HGAC) afterwards and end it with the RG Wing but I'm not sure if I want to wait that long for it haha.
Id say practice cutting methods and such with the hg first, making mistakes on a rg is harder to fix with smaller, more detailed pieces. Rg also take wayyy longer which can discourage someone who's new. My first kit was rg Exia and it was a great experience, but exhausting. I recommend SD for attempting customizations, since they tend to lack detail without stickers and such, and even a "bad" paint job can make them look much nicer
I think the aerial is a perfect example to compare the design philosophies of between these companies, because its such a different design aesthetically, and not in the same way that Unicorn or IBO are. Theres something more organic about the art of WFM, and it meshes with Robot Damashii's background so well, where you can see Bandai has this textural and boxy vibe. The head of the aerial is more demi than the small helmets of previous hero mechs, and RD went all out with the widest eyes I've seen on a Gundam, it looks and poses more like a Spider-Man figure than a giant robot, and for that reason I get why a lot of people are saying they prefer the HG's proportions, because thats why we're here, to collect and build cool robots, but the mechs are as much characters as the pilots, and I'm partial to the emotive and organic designs of Kanti from FLCL, Nirvash from Eureka Seven... and yes even the Franx, albeit an extreme example.
The RD is unmistakably taking inspiration from the reference image with its stubby proportions, but it can be fixed by raising the shoulders and extending the waist. I grabbed this one over the HG since I just wanted something more durable and be able to use the bits.
Another perspective on why the RD will always be better. The joints won't loosen over time, it's already painted (you can panel line if you want) articulation and plastic quality is better. Also you can re-pack and sell unlike model kits. A model kit can be expensive to buy but once built its worthless, and only worth something to you.
In general i think the RD design's sleeker interpretation is aesthetically pleasing in its own way, but I still prefer the HG's design overall. Some of that is the way the GUND system transparent parts were handled giving it more flare, sure, but mostly I like the way the HG's chest and collar are sculpted. The top of the HG's chest slants downward giving a better view of that yellow collar area which is larger and more well-defined which gives the HG Aerial more of a balanced appearance. I will say though I do like the expressiveness of the RD versions eyes, they're obscured somewhat on the HG but the longer neck really highlights them on the RD.
Even though the Robot Damashii Aerial has hands, the only downside I can think of personally are the stand, adapter part to make the long barrel beam rifle, and the central block for the shield form of the gund bits. The HG Aerial is getting the Mirasoul Flight Unit soon with the open palm hands on it (hoping the back of the hands are also white plastic and not having to put stickers like the ones in the IBO Weapon Sets with the Barbatos Lupus hands.) Not to mention their own Display Stand that you can pose your Gund Bits in more ways than the Robot Damashii. Plus compatible with the HG Lfrith, Daribalde and the recently released HG Pharact.
i spent a few minutes looking at the pictures of aerial but the high grade for the leg, torso, shoulders and head correct but the figure got the arms, knee, foot and skirting armor correct but this is my own opinion
mine just shipped really excited for it. i dont think it will straight replace the HG on my shelf like the damashii gouf custom did but i think it will serve more as a compliment. have hg looking pretty being fully painted and the figure with the gund bits flying around
God that neck, I mean personally £50 already put this as a no go for me personally, but no matter how good the articulation and extras where I can't get over the fact that the proportions just look jank. It doesn't help that personally a bunch of accessories aren't a bonus imo unless they can be stored on the model. Since otherwise i'll find my favourite combo and the rest just go in a doggy bag and with the rest of the bonus accessories i'll probably never use from other kits.
I think if you don't have time or patience to build models then its obvious the toy is better. Those who want to customise should buy models. Models give details but flimsy plastic. Some people like solid feeling to their figures.
I'm glad to support that's why I got the membership but what happened to member only content such as sneak peeks and stuff like I don't need it but a simple photo sneak peek thing would be nice sorry if I'm being a bit rude or asking too much loved the video mecha
The ver. ANIME line prioritizes anime accuracy whereas the HG kits won't necessarily be that way, though still baffles me why they didn't include the red permet effects on the figure, they actually released a separate Aerial with red permet exclusively in the "Asia" market which doesn't include Japan.
Personally, the Robot Spirits is a better figure in terms of accuracy to the anime (hence the title Ver. Anime) and you don't need to buy the hands separately (honsetly, Bandai). The HG looks better in terms of detail and customization, but I love playing around with models that don't snap.
The one thing I don't like about metal build or damashi figures is that your scared to do super dynamic poses due to breaking or feeling like your pushing an arm or leg too far. Dosent help that they are expensive af
I still think the HG version is still better with customizability with the 30mm kits. It’s also much cheaper and include the nice printed parts. Sure it’s already color accurate but where’s the fun in that :P
RD wierd proportion is actually more on-model and anime accurate than the HG. Seriously look up the official anime materials again, Aerial is meant to be wierd looking. HG proportion is stylized to be more "conventional", for better or worse. While I do slightly prefer the HG proportion myself, the RD has it's own charm that's unique to its own. Sort of like Turn A. RD Aerial is meant to be in a pose rather than standing still
If you get your hands on one, I’d really like to see a review of the psycho zaku ver ka. I just picked up one myself, but it’s going to have to sit in the back log for a little bit :(

proportions on the HG look alot better

Damashii is more accurate
@@zerothree6259in my opinion it isn’t more accurate
The HG looks way better on the side by side when you put the extra effort to panel line
Aerial has become one my favorite lead gundams its such a unique and awesome design and how much it stands out compared to others in the franchise.
mmm don't agree, Exia was totally unique, this borrows way too many nods to Exia and 00 designs.
For me, the XI Gundam has the most 'out of ordinary' design with it's bulky and wide proportions
@@rory6835 oh definitely exia is my personal favorite gundam of the franchise.
@@p0p765 the Xi gundam is an absolute beast and yes I agree it really exells in terms of presentation.

I personally really hate it when reviewers throw up the price tags like that for beginners and such but keep the Trojan horse shipping price a secret.
There are design elements on both versions that I would like to see combined in the MG version. Great work for both teams!

Simply put, damashi has the Anime look. Gunpla Kit has the realism look (how it would/should look in the real world).
tl;dr: If you want a figure to play with, buy a figure, if you want a model kit to display all pretty, buy a model kit.

If its not Metal grade 1/100 scale i wont even consider it, they really need to make a Metal Grade Arial or even better a Barbatos .
