  • Join my local friend JP and I as we pound vin chaud, hunt for elusive saucissons, eat a lot of raclette sandwiches, and tour two Christmas markets in La Défense and the "La Magie de Noël" at the center of Paris (Jardin des Tuileries) to see which is better. Both are some of the largest Christmas markets in Paris, and we made the comparison that absolutely nobody is asking for.
French Christmas markets or "Marché de Noel", especially those in Strasbourg and Colmar, are a staple holiday tradition across the country. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it out there, but the Parisian variety has a charm of its own.
If you like something that is a bit more laid back, with fewer people, and a bit more traditional, we'd recommend going to La Défense. If you want something with more action, more central, a view of the Eiffel tower, and a full-fledged amusement park/carnival, check out Jardin des Tuileries. Or, if you're like us, do both in one night. That said, this is not an exhaustive list. There are several other smaller markets scattered around Paris.
