I can't believe I spent six minutes of my life watching this train wreck. I can't wait to watch it again.
TV doesn't have time for promos like this anymore, what memories.....
NOBODY promoed like ABC promoed.
Hal Linden, Henry Winkler, Anson Williams, and the Benson cast ALWAYS looked like they were having a blast doing these campaigns
Henry Winkler looking like Michael McDonald in this network promo! 😂🤣
Fonzie as one of the Doobie Brothers
More Dennis Wilson, I think.
I thought it was Michael McDonald! 😂
I didn't even recognize him.
I thought he looked like Ellis from the first Die Hard.
Henry Winkler always seemed like a good humble sport doing these network promos coming from the most popular show as the most popular actor on that show.
Dallas was the number one show 1980 across all networks and on ABC their #1 show was Love Boat. Happy Days was number #15 tied with Too Close for Comfort!
Henry Winkler has done what he could get his face seen.
We are realizing or having a deeper realization that being on a TV show is not just the acting - the promos are work too!
something we will never see again on television again
Only 3 major networks back then and look how hard they worked to get viewers. They're either all very good actors or they were all enjoying themselves.
Unbelievable !!!!....When in the hell would you ever see such a diverse and more importantly.....multi-generational cast doing such a spectacular promo today ?!! I think we know the answer to that ......NEVER AGAIN !!! This is corny and fabulous and I miss it like HELL !!! Thanks for posting , so sad that most have passed over at this point. Great days ! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is One of The Greatest Promos By ABC for The Show's They Used to Play for Free on ABC
Some good RAZZ-MA-TAZZ..Reminds me of Lala Land...But how many are still with us from 1980??
Twitter brought me here (For some unbeknownst reason it has gone viral today--7/27/22)
80 ..damn the year after Starsky and Hutch , year before Greatest American Hero and 2 yrs before TJ Hooker..would have LOVED to have seen Glaser ,Soul , Robert Culp and especially SHATNER in this little promo dance production
The best outtakes of the promo.
hi
They say the neon lights are bright on Broadway . . .
The rare You and Me and ABC promo video.
Too bad they don't do station promos like this any more.
True.
that actors these days are no talent hacks thats why
Lots of People Having Fun
Walk down memory lane! So many of them have left us.
The ABC actors and actresses should put aside their egos and do a 40th anniversary promo this year
no talent these days they are hosers with big egos this will never again
Sadly, most of the legends depicted here are dead, and 1-2 then-newer ones, like Tom Hanks, couldn't be bothered today with such menial chores. Incredibly enough, Hal Linden is still going strong at 92!
I'm sure the black lady with the long in the dance troop is Angela Bassett.
You and Me and KBTV - Channel 9 in Denver, CO (Now KUSA and an NBC affiliate)
Watching this always amazes me. All the hard work that went into promos back then. And everyone so dedicated to getting it right. I knew there was a reason I always cheered for ABC on Battle of the Network Stars. They should bring that back.
this is very broadway well done ABC 80-81 season you had to have real talent acting sing and dance back then
Yes indeed. I remember this very well
It looks and sounds like they're lip-synching to pre-recorded vocals done by session singers. The dancing definitely required a bit of choreography though.
Great Video with The Stars of Many Abc Shows, including Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley
This was the final season for Eight is Enough & Soap.
Charlie's Angels, also. Additionally, Dynasty premiered mid-season.
I imagine the wrap party was hella fun
This was also used for That Year's Fall Preview.
RIP Penny Marshall, Roberto Montalban, Burgess Meredith, Robert Guillaume, Tom Bosley, Al Molinaro, Meredith Macrae, James Noble
Even though they wasn't there u can't forget John Ritter n Robin Williams r.i.p
*Ricardo
@@alfonsogreen2722 There was another promo the same year, with a different version of the song, where all the actors painted the side of a building. John Ritter was in that one.
@@alfonsogreen2722As well as Suzanne Somers who’ve recently passed away.
ABC Affiliates Take 1,Cathy Lee Crosby
I assume this was inspired by All That Jazz (1979).
I Love it!!! Sad to see most of them are gone now
Parts of it was used in that year's fall preview.
Damn Cathy Lee Crosby at 1:32 ..
I totally dug her when I was four years old, along with Jaclyn Smith and Erin Gray.
Back When Abc, Made Video Promos for The New Shows, and The Returning Show's, With The Cast Members from Almost Every Show, on ABC
I don’t care what people say, Tom Postman was an absolute fox in his later years.
They should have the cast of Charlie's angels in this promo. Just imagine having Cheryl ladd Jacklyn Smith and David Doyle participating in these little dance promotions.
EPIC👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾💯
You And Me At KTNV- Channel 13 In Las Vegas Nevada
Why does tv not advertise like this no more?
You and Me and TV-13 - KRDO Colorado Springs/Pueblo
OMG this sorta shows 'the making of' that commercial. The regular commercial has been floating around social media for a while but I've never seen the full edit the commercial with the build up to the commercial itself. Funny, social media replies often say "its clear the stars were not all there at the same time", but this video clearly indicates that they were all there. And rehearsed together for a long time before it was filmed. Neat. And yeah they certainly do not make anything like this anymore.. sigh
By then ABC which was "No. 1" for three seasons since 1976-77 had then dropped to "second place" as CBS would regain the "top spot" by the end of the 1979-80 season.
Sounds like that one George Benson song
I agree
YUP...ON BROADWAY
I'd swear I saw a version of this where you could see Tom Hanks in there somewhere but I don't see him here ??
Yes, he dances next to Donna Dixon. It's on here as the promo without the rehearsal.
A time when watching prime time t.v. meant something.
how i miss this over the top kinda cheesey style of tv presentation ..we took it for granted when this was the style that it might always be like this ..that it would always be just 3 big networks and not the 24/7 , 500 digital channels plus multi streaming channels on demand ..funny how that translated into so more less to watch overall and definitely the charm and ambience of network tv is now completely gone ..especially ..a tv world in which music intro credits are 98% obsolete and end credits are compressed and sped through at fast forward
Actually a big CHUNK of what's on CURRENTLY is all reruns from the 80s and earlier/later. The crap that is on now will most likely NOT stand the test of time like these shows have. Sad. RIP good TV.
You and Me and ABC O&O affiliates.
Let's see in 1980 in Fresno CA it was KJEO 47 (now it's KGPE CBS).

Where was Anson Williams?
The Fonz with a beard is scary, he looks too normal here.

I'm embarrassed for all of them.
nobody from Taxi? Danny Devito would have been a natural.
Thought I saw Marilu Henner in there at one point.
Can someone please tell me who that actor is at 1:06? I know him but the name escapes me.
TheJcanno8 That, sir, is the Fonz...Henry Winkler!
That's Henry Winkler. He wore a beard, for the "Happy Days" season premiere.
Who is the guy with the longer hair and beard ? At 2:00
I believe it’s Henry Winkler
How many of these great talents are gone from us now? Ricardo Montalban, Burgess Meredith, Robert Guillaume, Gavin McLeod, James Noble, Roscoe Lee Browne, Marion Ross... And who was that little girl? How many can you name?
The girl is a VERY young Missy Gold, from the opening season of the smash SOAP spinoff, Benson, which starred Robert Guillame, and Rene Auberjenois.
Marion Ross is still alive.
@@eddieperez4395 Hal Linden, who starred in Barney Miller, is also still alive.
who is the woman shaking her head around at 1:52, right before Robert Donner?
I want to know too! She's also at 0:39. She's never still enough to get a good look at.
@@stacia99 So, I looked at the 1980 ABC lineup and if I were to guess, I'd say it was Gail Edwards from It's A Living.
@@daleprasek7395 Gail Edwards never had red hair.... and the woman in question is Joanna Cassidy, from 240 Robert.
@@stacia99 That is Joanna Cassidy. She costarred on 240 Robert at the time.
@@brockreynolds870 Thank you, I think you cracked the case!
Who's the guy at :41
That is Robert Donner, who played Exidor on Mork and Mindy.
Who is the tall Brunette at 4:05
That is Diana Canova.
Thank you!!!
I had the same question. She was lovely. Thank you for the ID!
Who is the blond at 1:20?
MrRevphil That's Dianne Kay from Eight Is Enough.
Cathy Lee Crosby, The First Wonder Woman TV Movie, With Mister Ricardo Montalban
Donna Dixon, from Bosom Buddies
@@piercedbro Donna Dixon from Bosom Buddies
@@brockreynolds870 No, that is definitely Dianne Kay. Nobody from Bosom Buddies is in this promo.
Larry Sullivan
He was the one that directed this campaign!

ABC had only one more year as the #1 network before NBC made the comeback of the century and reigned supreme for almost the next two decades. And this is probably my least favorite fall promo from ABC in my lifetime (I was born in 1974). Don't have a problem with the dancing or any of the actors. The song (to me) sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard.
NBC was certianly down in the dumps, Little House on the Prairie and Different Strokes being their only hits. Then Facts of Life and Gimme A Break broke big in 82, then Family Ties and Cheers, really picked the network out of the doldrums.
@@brockreynolds870But ABC was already waning in the Nielsen ratings by that point. Eight is Enough, Soap and Charlie’s Angels both ended their runs by the end of the season.
What an awful song. They added the terrible chorus to avoid paying the Drifters a royalty for On Broadway.
This is awesome footage, cheers! Let’s join hands
These pointless and stupid promos were a complete waste of time for everyone involved.
