Finally got to see him bowl ‘in the flesh’ at Headingley, Leeds in August 2001. His fluid action, the speed he could generate - was simply incredible. He was part of a fantastic Australian side where people like McGrath, Warne, Steve & Mark Waugh, Hayden and Gilchrist are often singled out. But for me, he is still one of the best fast bowlers I have ever seen play the game.
I think what Brett lee had that Shaoib didn't was consistency and sheer passion for the game. He would be in my playing XI at any time. What an athlete he was Hats off. To be able to see him bowl the way he did at 2003 world cup was just breathtaking...He instilled fear in batsmen

Our best up and comer with the ball is probably Zak Evans, who played Australian Under 19s when he was 16/17 if I recall correctly and ripped the Sri Lankan u/19s apart earlier this year. Looks quite quick, given his age, but still plenty of development left in him. Most of the attention at the moment is centred around our batting stocks with Jason Sangha and Austin Waugh in particular focus. Will Sutherland is probably our premier all-rounder at Under 19s level, bowls and bats very well and made his domestic debut for Victoria last week.

The difference with Jeff Thomson bowling 160kmh, is that it was measured at the batters end - after it had bounced and travelled the length of the pitch. Nowadays it is measured within the first metre of the bowler's release point. Massive difference in pace....when a guy can make the ball go past the batsman's throat, over the keeper and 1/2 volley the sightscreen at the massive Aussie grounds - and they were especially massive in the 70's, with no ropes....then that is quick. I haven't seen anyone come close to doing that since Thommo....Binga was an amazing athlete though and bowled high speed for many years.

it was great aussie team having an entire team of legends my childhood (90s) was a time when aussies were really ruling the game, no one even close to brett and shoaib now a days, occassionally we see 150, tait was awsm but not the same smoothness of action
ahh one of the greatest fast bowlers to ever play the game and a great sportman aswell. I hope we do find more genuine fast pace bowlers its starting to become a dying art. We do have some such as starc and cummins then youll have some others like mohd amir coming back so it will be good hopefully
I am the biggest shoaib fan ever but there was no difference in speed shoaib clocked 161.3 and brett 160.5 or something like that brett is more dangerous than shoaib with shoaiby you know he gona bowl full all the time but brett would just be at ur ribs all the time that is more scary but call it what you want bowling 1kph quicker doesn't make difference yeah if he was bowling 105mph then yeah shoaib would be much quicker but they through there career bowled every ball at 145kph to 156 157 in there spells both of them every time

Even Ricky Ponting was unlucky to lose, Shane Warne thought if there were 10 runs to play with and 10 wickets to take, he could get them all. From my sofa watching that fantastic series I really thought he could. Brett Lee was so fast, like Thommo with direction.
I would still call him underrated due to the fact that his role as enforcer and initimidator complemented bowlers like Mcgrath and Gillespie who were more the tie the batsman down and strangle them kind. Just like Starc he also leaked runs occasionally but his role was to attack and go for wickets. Man everyone wanted to be him when i was growing up... such a figure with the spiky blonde hair and that bracelet hurling them down at 150kph plus all the time.
