- Shaker style cabinet door build. All joinery was done using a table saw. Wood used was superior alder. Polycrilic satin finish.
This video is for instructional purposes only. Use power tools with caution.
Great ideas. Hanging the doors to finish and the tape on the drilling jig. You reminded me that you can do a great job with a moderate shop. I’m tired of watching guys with $100k shops. I’ve been doing this as a living for 30 years and you still helped me
Good work, I really like that you don't spend a lot of time blabbing, a clear and concise video, thanks!
Very professional..................one of the best sets of shaker's I've seen built..........good job
This was so cool to watch. I’m going to try to install shelves in my closet after watching your closet video. I’d love to see more instructional videos!
The grain on that alder wood looks very nice.
Fantastic job! Some great tips. Really love the look of that wood with the finish.
I've seen a bunch of door builds. This one was explained the best in my opinion. Thank you.
I like the small reveal on the back of your doors. Nice job.
The hanger system for painting the doors is genius! Your tip saved me a lot of time I would have spent building a huge drying rack. Thank you very much!
Glad it helped! It’s changed my life 😎
Nice looking color ... the Poly really gave a nice color to the Alder ... I would've guessed some stain but wow, excellent work by the way!
Beautiful doors and drawers. Great project
Looks good, I am thinking about rebuilding my kitchen cabinets and this video gave me some ideas.
Well done. Thanks for sharing your methods.
Really great work. Thanks for the overview video!
A beautiful piece of work! More content on your channel please!
Really good job! Its very inspiring for DIYers.
That looks fantastic.
Looks great!
Beautiful work. Nice job.
Very impressive my friend. Very professional all around
Thanks for the video, enjoyed it and the doors look great
Jamie La Vende thanks! Stay tuned for more
Well done. And thank you for not over complicating the process like some of the guys on here do, with their million dollar shop setups.
Really nice job , I like your paint station ... looking forward to more videos
Ginger Snibbor thanks a lot! The spray setup really makes it way easier and saves a ton of time!
Like the look. Thanks.
Great Video!
Jesse Bridge thank you! Stay tuned for more
You are a true craftsman my friend. Great job!
Great job, thanks for the vid, big help!
Very nice! 👍🖖
10/10 great video!
Beautiful build!
FWIW I believe the vertical ends are spelled 'stiles'. Super not important, but just thought I'd share.
You’re right, thanks for the heads up!
Amazing video and proyect! A little concern with the tool safety but all turn ok at the end. 😌👍
good work, keep it up man
Thanks!
It looks like you may be relatively new at the video thing, but this was very nicely done! Earned you another sub, keep the videos coming!
Cabinet work looks great and I liked your thorough explanation ... Any chance you also did the cement countertop? If so - I'm curious if you have a video for that as well.
Thank you, it would have been great if you could show in details how to install the door hinge on the cabinet.
Good suggestion. I’ll try and do another video with more details on that in future
I've been looking at ways to make my own cabinet doors. I like this way that you have shown us. Nice work, those cabinet doors look really good! Got a sub from me.
Dolf is crying tears of joy right now.
Dylan Lorimer haha hopefully. What a legend
Great video, but I was really hoping to see you actually install the doors!
Amazing work. I am doing my kitchen doors in Maple and following your process. Will I get the same color in Maple using polycrylic?
Nice cabinet 👍
I'm curious about the recess in the door for the handle screws @13:33 🤔can you tell more ?
Great video. What type of plywood did you use for kitchen cabinets? The poplar you used stiles and rails is from big box stores or you went to lumber store?
Hi Josh. Have DeWalt 7485 table saw and watching dado stack. Can you pls recommend some? thanks. Congrat, nice job :)
nice carpentry, door handle height is so important though,
Awesome video and work. Thanks for all the detailed instructions. I have a question about your kitchen cabinets finish. What product/equipment did you use to achieve such a nice finish?
I used the same airless sprayer I used in this video. I put on one coat of primer and then 3 coats of sherwin Williams emerald urethane trim enamel. Its by far the best paint I’ve ever encountered.
@@joshweightwoodworks Thank you very much.
Awesome! Good tip about using your hardware holes to rough mount drawer faces!
Question for you: what was your process in painting your kitchen cabinetry to get it looking like a baked on finish?
Thanks! I just used the same airless sprayer I used in this video. 1 coat of primer and 2 coats of sherwin Williams emerald urethan trim enamel. Best paint on the market in my opinion
@@joshweightwoodworks I'm looking to use the exact same paint. Were you able to use your hanger system for that as well? I know it's a self leveling paint, but did it run at all while hanging? Thanks!
Nice job, did you use an 1.25" overlay hinge?
How do you figure the measurements? I want to replace our kitchen cabinets doors and drawer fronts.
Nice video! Was this a refinish or did you build the whole cabinet yourself? I am curious about the concrete countertop. I need to build one to go with the vanity I built (newbie tip...start with a finished vanity top and build your cabinet based on that if you don't want to end up with my dilemma, haha). Grateful for any tips if you poured those (and maybe have a video of that process???)
Thank you! I built the cabinet from scratch as well and poured the concrete countertops. I wish I would have filmed the countertops but I didn’t. I might have another one coming up though. I used a melamine form like a lot of others on UA-cam. I used surecrete xs precast gfrc for the mix. I highly recommend using something similar that has glass fiber reinforcement and also has additives to resist shrinkage and cracking. I used the xs 327 sealer. I also did our kitchen countertops this way almost two years ago and they still look brand new
How much space should be between the doors opening in the opposite direction?
Great video Josh. What hinges are you using? I’m building some shaker doors now and the ones I’m using makes the doors stick out too far. Even after all the adjustments. I’m using 1 1/4 overlay from Blum for face frames and they’re just not working.
I used 3/4” overlay because my box material was 3/4” thick. Sounds like you might need those as well
@@joshweightwoodworks Okay thank you. I was more concerned with the gap between the hinge and the door. My door seems like it sticks out from from the face frame on the hinge side too much. Even after adjustments. The Blum compact style I’m using.
great video. nice job, what brand of miter gauge are you using here? i have the same table saw and i am interested in getting one my self. thanks
It’s an incra
thanks,
What spray gun is that? For staining. What sort of clean up do you have to do?
It’s a Wagner airless sprayer. I used water based poly so the gun just cleans up with a little soap and water. Just make sure you do a good job on the internal parts and the tip and what not
This is a good video except I need to know how to measure to know the width of each door.. I didn't see where anything got measured to the opening??
Can you make my cabinet doors for me 😫 ill pay for labor nd shipping and everything. Please ? Your work is very well done and is professional.
Feel free to send me an email :)
@@joshweightwoodworks whats your email? I cant find it
@@nynybella8 it’s joshweightwoodworks@gmail.com
@@joshweightwoodworks thank you. 🤗
Hi, which model table saw are you using? I'm looking for a smaller table saw to build some cabinets in my home, but I don't have space for a huge cabinet table saw. Great video!
It’s the Dewalt dwe7491rs. I would say it’s perfect for the situation you described. Obviously it would be awesome to have a professional cabinet saw but for the price and portability this one is awesome.
@@joshweightwoodworks Thanks for the reply! Did you have to “true” the saw or was it ready out of the box? Do you recommend any additional accessories for the saw to make cabinet doors?
Also, what paint sprayer did you use / recommend for the white cabinet door faces you made?
I’m planning on making bedroom built ins and will be painting everything.
Again, great job on your video. I watched about 30 shaker cabinet videos last night and found yours to be the best and most informative.
@@KeyWestSaltLife I did have to adjust the table slightly out of the box but it was pretty dang close. I would recommend a nice miter gauge or cross cut sled, the gauge it comes with is garbage. Also a better blade than the one it comes with.
@@joshweightwoodworks Thank you for the tips and info!
@@joshweightwoodworks Hi Josh, I just bought the same saw that you have (Dewalt: DWE7491RS) and I'm planning on building some shaker style cabinets and I'll be painting them. Do you have a recommendation for a 10" upgraded saw blade that will have a very clean cut? I plan on only the new blade for cabinet making (cross cutting and ripping).
I've heard many good things about the Freud 10" Fusion Thin Kerf blade, but there are numerous models of this blade. I was thinking about the Freud® LU80R Ultimate Plywood and Melamine Blade, but have not experience and wanted to get your recommendation. Thank you!
how did you do that counter top?
Wish I would have made a video but it was before I started this channel. I poured it out of glass fiber reinforced concrete.
Nice work, I have a job site dewalt too and I didn't find a dado blade to buy. Please could you tell me where you did buy?
Thank you.
I use this one: www.amazon.com/dp/B0012YF25Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_XsLbzB5vGr39d
It’s not the greatest but it works
@@joshweightwoodworks Thank you, I am afraid about the width of the screw. It's long enough to hold the dado blade?
@@claudioboudakian4165 yes it’s long enough. I’ve done up to 3/4” I believe and the nut can still fully seat
@@joshweightwoodworks Thank you.
Josh I have a question. Im building cabinet doors for both of my bathrooms. There are two main doors that are much larger and three pull out drawers. The top pull out drawer is much smaller than the bottom one 13x5. They get bigger as you go down. I thought that I would make the top with smaller rails and in large them as I went down the bottom one is 13x9. Do you think this is a good idea? Or do you think that all the rails should be the same size on the cabinet? Yours look so great and made me second guess myself. Help!!!! Lol.
Personally I think it looks best to have all of the rails and stiles the same size. I would recommend drawing your doors and drawer fronts out to scale somehow. If you have access to a cad program or even graph paper it helps to visualize. Good luck!
@@joshweightwoodworks Actually I have the old doors and I drew it out and with 2" rails the top door only has about a 1" open space. That won't work from what Im looking at so I was thinking I would make those rails 1.5" instead. Everything else will be 2". This way the only door that will be different will be the one top drawer. I don't know, it doesn't seem like I have much of a choice.
How did you make sure they were square?
I just measured diagonally on both corners to make sure the length was the same. They are so small so as long as the joints were square the whole thing ended up being square on all of them anyway though
Did you also do the counter top yourself?
Yes I did. Unfortunately didn’t film that part.
dewalt model?
Damn man use a push stick.
Would you be willing to share what dado stack you're using? I've had troubles finding one that works in my DeWalt table saw.
Yeah for sure. It’s this one www.amazon.com/dp/B0012YF25Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_XsLbzB5vGr39d it’s not high end but it has served me well!
What is "Shaker" about this project?
Shaker is the name for that style of cabinet door. Pretty plain with no edge profiles or anything.
The verticle boards on a door are spelled “STILE”, not “style.”
Thanks, you’re right. Also, it’s vertical, not verticle. 😉
@@joshweightwoodworks well played.
😂
Bro, get some space balls for the center panels. Thank me, later.
Never had an issue without them when I’m able to pre finish the center panel. If I’m painting the door a solid color though I do use them
