Watched this video when it first came out honestly the best monkey review on UA-cam well done guys, passed my CBT Today off to the Honda showroom Monday almost certain I’ll be riding home on one :)
That’s awesome! Let us know how you get on with it!
Did you get it???
He asked you a question
Just got a Monkey a few weeks ago (1st motorcycle). I love this thing and its a blast to cruise around town. Im also a big guy and it does fine moving me around.
Colby Crouse ahh brilliant! Welcome to the club!
I do love that Monkey bike, I am clearing a spot in the garage for now. After the Coronavirus clears up I will be shopping for a Blue one here in California.
James Menard Thats great! We don’t have a blue option here. It’s a super little bike!
I'm sixty one. Just bought a Red monkey. Great fun to be back on a bike after 42 years. It takes pride of place in my Lounge room. SUPERIOR VLOG !
Ahh excellent! 👍🏼👍🏼
Just bought this bike and I’m looking forward to riding around town in Folsom California, thanks for the review gives me confidence in my purchase,
Thanks Daniel. You’ll love it!
Thank you for your superb review!!So looking forward to picking up my 2019 Monkey from Honda in Exeter in 3 days and counting!
I am so excited I have been wearing my bike gear around the house in 32 degree heatwave 😂
Thanks Lisa that’s great! Let us know how you get on with it 👍🏼👍🏼
Amazing video! I've owned the Monkey for almost a year now and have put 800 miles on it. About 300 miles of that have been off road and this bike is capable and just outright fun! I found your reviews and opinions to be spot on.
The winkers on the European models are so much nicer and propper looking than the garbage they threw together for the U.S. models. Keep the videos coming. Great job guys!
Thanks Ranger! Much appreciated
Best review I have seen....got one...love it so much.
Jonny Steel Thanks Jonny! Isn’t it a great bike!
@@MrDarcy-OlMan I've just subbed to your channel sir 👍 and I must say your reviews are as honest and informative as they come. IM GONNA GET A 🐒 BIKE AS I FELL IN LOVE WITH IT AFTER I SAW MILLION DOLLAR BOGAN RIDE ACROSS AUSTRALIA 🇦🇺 ON ONE. Check it out on youtube
Great video. I grew up in Dubai in the 70s when it was a desert outpost. We all had monkey bikes...mine was a Honda Z50J . I completely loved it. Flying over the desert and jumping around the sand dunes...happy days. This is almost identical in a 125 package. I have a full license but stick to 125s as I use the company car and bike is purely for weekend fun. Currently MT125....but this!
Awesome! Yes this is s great bike!
Kudos to your opening scene. That was special.
Haha thanks 👍🏼
Oh the memories... I grew up in that era of 50 and 70cc mini bike in Honda’s offerings also. I want one!!!
Ken Munoz Still just as much fun, and they sound the same interestingly
Great video! Really good job editing both of your clips together.
Thanks buddy. 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you for this review. I am going to pick up my Monkey in a few days!
Awesome 👍🏼👍🏼
Just got a blue Monkey 2 days ago 👍🏼
It IS NOT my 1st or only bike , but it’s mine and I love it !
Excellent! What fun you have to come!
I live in Worcester Massachusetts, this looks like a great addition to my Indian Chief Vintage for getting around the city. Thank you for posting this. Oh yeah I loved the CT70 ! This bike reminds me so much of that!
Thanks buddy. Yes super city bike!
Another great review, keep up the good work.
Twistie Slayer Thanks my friend! 👊🏼
I'm intrigued to know what that track is towards the end of the video, sounds meaty!
Glad you had fun with this one, particularly enjoyed the frequent reference, "for a normal sized person" haha!
Thanks my friend! If I don't mention my size I get people telling me the bike is too small! lol. I can't find the name of the track - sorry - it's a Royalty Free tune but I can't find where it came from now.
Enjoyed your review, thanks
B Haddock Were glad you enjoyed it! 💯
Soo tempted as a second fun little bike, great upload 👍🏻
Thanks Rich! Yes it’s a fabulous little bike 💯
Such a fun bike, I’d say the most fun bike I’ve had (next to a sumo). Being able to “speed”around on a bike pushing its limits and still be within the speed limit is nothing short of pure fun and hilarious. Some say expensive, I say worth every penny. Great review!
Yes we’d agree entirely with that!
Awesome review, and those roads look amazing to have to ride around on.
Unknown Overland Thanks !! Yes it’s quite pretty round here
Great Review. I installed a 14 tooth on the front for better-acceleration for my size. Just like you I had one of these back in the 70s in San Diego riding in the desert & on the beach in Mexico. Why was I waiting for Ozzy to make a cameo?
Thanks bro! Good idea about sprocket. Ozzy was out!
Great review! I’ve had my blue Monkey just a couple of weeks, and it’s fabulous. I can’t agree more on all your points. Appreciated your observation about the mirrors. There is a great solution in the mirror extensions you can get for the Monkey. Solves the problem perfectly. Happy and safe riding to you!
Thanks Jack! I'm sure you're loving your Monkey! What colour did you get?
Sorry mate just saw you said blue (which country are you in? Can't get blue here)
MrDarcy & the Ol'Man
Hey guys, I’m in Mobile, Alabama, USA. I walked in to the Honda dealership a couple of weeks ago, and they had one Blue on the showroom floor. Love at first sight, bought it the next day and the drive home was the very first ride. Just amazing! I still have some vintage CT 70’s that we love, but this is the direction I “needed” to go, just a perfect fit for someone who has been a big Honda mini bike fan since my first intro at age 11 in 1969. Just so grateful they created this classic bike and brought it back in 2018. Only thing that I want now is another one, or two... :)
Jack Yianitsas great story! There’s certainly something about them!
My sisters had these in 70's, and me and my brother enjoyed these also, even though then they were 50cc but the enjoyment was the same.
Yes they live on and are still fun!
Man I love this little monkey. I would consider selling my 650 to get this, it just looks fun. Great review btw - best on UA-cam, great work lads!
Mark it’s really a super little bike! We love it!
Love this awesome little bike. Great review, thank you. 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks bro
what a wonderful little bike, i also grew up on the st's an XR's, this new bike is something that i remember my best friend having it was a trail 70, this bike is just about a copy of it its great because its all modern honda technology an thats something to reckon with an something you can ALWAYS rely on, it being a 125 i can see the bottom to mid range power it has plenty of it lol, great video yall stay blessed.
Thank you very much! Fabulous! Ditto 🙏
Hi I love mine put a screen and a performance air filter with a pipe and what a bike so much fun love it you are right makes a great second bike just for a blast out makes you smile every time you ride it
Paul Eggleton Thanks Paul! It’s a lot more nippy than other 125’s . Do you find the mods make much difference?
Me too, Mum had an st70 in the early 70s petrol crisis. I was about 14 and learned to ride up and down the back garden.
fantastic review. Dying to get one of these. Looks like you can get them for around £3000 in mainland UK, but cant seem to get one for that price here in Northern Ireland yet
rrankin546 Thanks 🙏 I hope you can find one soon! They are fabulous
Enjoyable review. I’ve got a yellow one and put on a Yoshimura pipe, Ohlins, R&G tail tidy and ASV levers...so a real money pit! 1800kms it really is smile for miles. Used to have big Ducati’s, Triumphs but never had so much attention, admiration and comments when out on the Monkey! Anyone procrastinating, go for it - I love it :-)
Great! Do you find the power is up? What about fuel economy?
MrDarcy & the Ol'Man Hiya, the Yoshi was installed at time of collection, so didn’t have a chance to compare stock over modified. I have a Grom too, but in a lot of ways feel completely different. I find both Honda’s reasonably peppy, and really enjoy the sound, feel, crackle and pops of the Yoshi pipe so would definitely recommend putting one of these on
Its nice to see a rider that has lot of experience on big bikes and still loves a small 125cc bike. I never really understood all this ego thing from riders when trying to ride a 125cc again, like some kind of sacrilege.
Yes they are great fun tbh 👍🏼
I'm going to go get one of these Monkeys, I remember them from when I was a kid, and did not know they still made them! One coming to my garage soon! Will look nice next to the Yamaha Roadstar.
Awesome 👍🏼👍🏼
That intro is genius! LOOOOL Thank you for the great review!
Question, if you had one, other than the exhaust what would you change on the bike?
VVoltz haha yes that intro! Personally I would leave it as it is; even the exhaust. I’ve seen people change exhaust and airbox and actually lose power!
Everything on this video is beautiful! Thanks
Just got a red one about two weeks ago. Only had weather for one short 30mile ride so far, but chaffing at the bit to get out soon.
Kevin Aylward Awesome. So much fun to look forward to!
My first bike around 6 or 7 was a Honda 50, 3 speed, all down. Can’t remember the model, but his reminds me of it. Love the look, I want one! Looks fun to play around on
Excellent! Yes it’s great!
I have three of these bikes and I love them tremendously!!! I have a yellow, blue & red one. The best mpg I have gotten was about 145 for a gallon. And that my friends is EXCELLENT!!! Anyone thinking of buying their first bike cannot go wrong choosing this as their first!!! I'm not an expert but I've been riding bikes since I was 16 and I'm 64 now so I did learn a few things along the way!! Happy riding to All.
Great! They are awesome aren’t they!
@@MrDarcy-OlMan YES THEY ARE, I LOVE THEM SO!!!
Nice video thank you for sharing
Thanks! No problem
I haven’t rode for a number of years, so this bike is really peaking my interest. I’m looking for something easy to ride and have fun with.
This is THE bike!
Haha only just seen this one! Great review as always guys👍 I love the Monkey but bought the Grom instead, purely for its two up ability (Easier to justify to my wife😂) Actually bought for a village run around and also to go in back of van for camping trips. In reality I use it for way more. I live in French Alps and it’s honestly so much fun in the twisty mountain roads. This year I bought knobbies in it and have also been crossing the mountains on 4x4 trails etc. Most versatile bike ever. Took to London this summer and was absolutely awesome in traffic. Back in day I was a London motorcycle courier and this thing would of been awesome for that. Small bikes rock! Keep up the good work lads👍
Great! Yes they are both super little bikes!
Nice, keep it up!
eastcoastish Thanks my friend!
Always enjoy your videos, very well done. BTW, Ol Man, were you a body builder at one time? Just curious how you got so big!
Thanks buddy. Yes always been into bodybuilding, not to compete though 💪🏼
I just sat on Monkey once - so impressed how comfortable it was. I actually bought the Kymco Spade which is the street version that is a little miniature Harley it is such a blast and just as comfortable little bit bigger engine and five speed
Excellent 👍🏼👍🏼
Cheers mate! Happy rid’n Allan cali USA

Brilliant bike bought mine as a 2nd bike 2000 miles on it know has half yoshi pipe have been off road green lane use it for work I love my monkey . 180 miles out of a tank you could probably get 200 but
You would be pushing it .
Martin Botterill Brilliant! In the real world the mpg figures are bound to be less than the quoted ones, under ideal conditions etc
The Honda Monkey is the best Trail Bike in the World without question. I own one and riding the trials in the woods where I live in Lakeside, AZ is so much fun.
Yes they are surprisingly good for that! Much better than an adventure bike!
Great Video! Great Review. It's a total midlife crisis bike for all the adult males who rode old minibikes or the Honda Trail 70. I'd love to ride one. Will be purchasing one.
They are awesome
Love the music choice, much more chilled than the death metal
Lol yes it suits the bike 👍🏼
Phaha love that intro😂🤣. Hug from the ol' man👍🏻
Chris Hanlon haha yes thanks 👊🏼
Its a great first bike and I’m putting my yoshi on it tomorrow!!!!
Awesome Sharif! 👍🏼
terrific vid, thx!!

Loved the intro lol Yes it's a great wee bike and after watching Million Dollar Bogan take one flat out for two weeks across the Nullabor plain it's proved its reliability, almost unbreakable and cheap as chips. :)
Hepcat Harley Thanks my friend. Not seen Million Dollar Bogan 👊🏼

Good video 👍🏻
Thanks bro!
thanks to you guys, I found a new passion in life it started with this review of the Monkey that I now own and love to bits, but I need more I would love to get me a black Bobber style bike, do you think Yamaha V-star "drag star" 650-750 would be a nice start, found a few of them custom made online with a nice price tag and low on miles " my dream is to own a Harley at some point but I need to know I like it enough to invest in one , can find some Harleys in the price range but most of them need a lot of work ,,and i like to ride not spend time waiting for parts in a garage :)
Thanks buddy! Yes I know Yamaha’s are very good although we haven’t ridden the bike you mention. It would not be too much of a handful I’m sure
yay! someone who doesn't Just put up an hour long video of pov driving around on roads that all look the same!! You have very good reviews. I am planning to buy a monkey shortly, though in the USA it;s hard to find a yellow one used, for a good enough price. may settle for a blue one.
I am 41, just about to do my CBT and get into biking! I have always had old minis and currently running a vw t4 van so need a cheap, fun ride to work! I am 6’4” and weigh 100kg. I really want a Monkey but head saying to go for the CB125F. But I like a cool quirky vehicle. Would I get away with the Monkey?!?! Love the vid. A new subscriber now I am obsessed with 2 wheels!!!!
Monkey 100%! It’s brilliant and the riding position is surprisingly roomy. I’ve had many Minis in my time too, best being a 1380 mental race tuned one!
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Thank you for the reply!!!! Definitely heading towards the monkey!!!
Well, I went for the CB125F (sensible). Sold it in January and ordered the Monkey I always wanted in the first place! Nearly a month of Monkey ownership and loving it!
Great video lads. Been looking at getting one of these as my first bike turning 17 soon it’s in my price range too. I’m just struggling to find a dealer in Essex. Do you know of any??( doesn’t matter if u don’t the clips don’t look like ur from around my parts anyway it looks so nice with you!
Thanks buddy!
I don’t know if the Honda website would direct you to a local dealership, it should do.
Not sure of any . Ol man is an Essex boy originally (Maldon Danbury etc).
@Mr Darcy & the Ol’Man that’s ok thanks for the vid anyway
I own and ride a Harley-Davidson Softail Street Bob. I am at the moment in the process of buying a new Honda Monkey Bike. To as you said use as my second bike.
Awesome! What a combination! 👍
Nice 👍🏼
I also own & ride a Harley (Softail Breakout) . Just bought a blue Monkey 2 days ago. It’s a different kind of fun !
A Great fun commuter bike for many, but at 6’4” and the wrong side of 17 stone I’m not sure those springs would help me or the bike😆. Great review though👌👍😎🤘
Haha yes that’s a bit of a problem
You are a giant on this bike 😁.
Nice bike.
Haha yes 👍🏼
Great Review! I'm wanting to get this as a 3rd bike (have a Super Cub and CBR 500 ABS currently). I want Blue, and here in the states, only Red comes with ABS. How important do you think it is to have ABS on this particular bike? (my other 2 have it)
Thanks bro! ABS on the monkey... I wouldn’t worry about it. Obviously you’d have to be careful braking on loose gravel or not over applying front brake, but I remember when ABS first came out on bikes; nobody wanted it!
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Awesome! Thanks!!!
I like it because its quirky and would fit in nicely next to my Diavel which ive sadly only done shy less than 10k miles in 7 years as these are only toys for me to enjoy in fair weather. I keep looking for one nearly every day for a price that Ill pull the trigger but as it stands the money for this is a bit close to a decent used ducati scrambler and that bugs me.
jsouto77 Yes it makes a perfect second bike. It seems to hold its value!
Me old fart am so much looking forward to be a happy kid again when my recently purchased banana yellow 2022 Honda Monkey will be delivered in spring 22. Allready got a Monkey Z50R since some 25 years, but sadly that little thing is not streetlegal here in Germany and therefor only serves as a kids fun toy in the woods. Now finally there will be a Monkey traveling around with me in my camper.
Awesome! 💯👍🏼
Would love to get this as a second bike and maybe get my gf into also getting a 2nd bike. I could just see the two of us zipping all around the area on these in Montreal area 🇨🇦.
They really are great for that 👍🏼
I own 2 of these little monsters blue 2020 and black 2022 and I must say. You guys covered all of the bases about the Honda monkey here in this video. Excellent review gentleman. Just subbed ya. LF73
Excellent! Thanks bud and welcome aboard 👍🏼👍🏼
Leadfarmer73, which do you prefer? I,m thinking of buying a SH older model rather than this years 5 speed
@@guysmith3146 The non ABS is actually dangerous , back brake non existent and front very grabby.
@@joecamel6835 Having rode non ABS bikes for years, ABS is not essential for me, although that's the only version available in the EU. The monkey back brake is good if it's set up right.
I'm 63 like to ride back roads and some off road nothing extreme, I'm 6ft 2in and 275 lbs can this bike handle a person my size? Great review really open my eyes from thinking of this as just a kids toy to a actually motorcycle.
The bike is great for that. Your heavier than the bike is designed for but it would be fine if you’re not doing mx on it!
There are after market shocks (progressive) that will handle your weight better and prevent you from bottoming up. If you decided to get one, it seems that would be the mod that will ensure you enjoy the rides. There are some videos on UA-cam discussing the after market shocks. Cheers!

had a 2005 monkey for about 15 years that I bought for $500 when I was stationed in Japan. Sold it just before I moved back to Japan a few months ago for $3k. I'm going to see what the 2022 monkey looks like here in a couple days and may pickup a new one now that I'm back in Japan. Love these little bikes and looking forward to the extra power over the 50cc.
They are great, just filmed our review of the 2022 model so look out for it within the next week 👍🏻

@@MrDarcy-OlMan had to go with the grom. I couldn't get a new monkey for months but could find a new grom at a dealer for a good price. I just upgraded the suspension and put knobby tires on it 🤣
I may get one for the winter.... and the laughs haha
Fosters Pets Yes do it! 👊🏼
Would you consider reviewing the mash 125cc?
Yes but Mash's importer has gone into liquidation. We're reviewing the Herald range of motorbikes very soon. They are awesome, stay tuned!
Is it dumb as I own Kawasaki ZZR with plus 180hp, but for some reason I still have huge desire to buy 125 Monkey?!?!? I guess it's something that's in my brain permanently from those moped riding days as kid 😂
Weirdly; it would be just as much fun
@@MrDarcy-OlMan I can pretty much imagine that thing. Never owned Honda, but Suzuki PV which was close to Monkey. Spiced up it did about 80km/h and speed felt quite monstrous for such small thing. Obviously this is bit larger, more rigid and robust, but I'm still sure that this 125 Honda has to be quite fun to ride around. Btw. I rode smaller Honda moped as kid and it had really good seat. I suspect this also has that same seat? Soft, but not overly soft big comfy seat.
I've got mine up to 80 mph on the A3 where it goes slightly downhill. I weigh 70kg
The mirrors can be easily replaced, get a pair with longer bars and square glasses and you'll feel a hell of a lot safer.
John Wilkinson yes good point 👍🏼
Back in the 70's I was doing some engine repairs to my pals ST50 and I had to nip to the petrol station to get fuel for road testing, when I went to the kiosk to pay the girl on the till was in fits of laughter because I was so big and the bike was so small, she said 'I look like an elephant riding a pea'
happy days..
Haha yes 👍🏼👍🏼
The Honda Monkey 125 is manufactured in Thailand for the world market.
I am an English Expat living in Thailand and bought a Honda Monkey for myself and to pop down to the supermarket and to my farm.
Highly recommend it for short people. My 5' 1" secretary has no problem riding it.
The price in Thailand is 98,000 bt => £2,450 on the road but doesn't come with ABS on it.
Awesome! Great bike

@@zacharyreynolds4303 you can ride it but obviously it’s small, but the riding position is ok
@@zacharyreynolds4303 I am 5'11" and feel very comfortable on it. The seat height is not actually low (Honda Wave is even lower) and handlebars for my height feel fine.
I'm 5.2 would this bike be too high for me yet? It's not my first bike in looking for and I've ridden quite bigger but want something easy and lightweight to move around town with but I also want to have my feet in the ground in a good way to navigate when standing still. I've also been looking at the Honda cb125r and the MSZ125... not easy to come by where I live unfortunately but I'm in no hurry so it would be very helpful to hear your thoughts on my hight and these bikes.
I think you’d ideally have to sit on one, because although its a small bike, the seat is higher than you’d think. Saying that, I had one when i was 7, and rode it round the garden and farm tracks just fine.

I'm strongly considering buying this to take with me when I go camping in upper Michigan. Would you say that this bike is capable of going in trails in the woods?
Twin-Nick That’s a good idea. It is fine on light trails as long as you don’t push it and pretend it’s a motocross bike! I used to trail ride mine (when was a kid) and it was fine
