Another excellent review on your part. I am very close to hitting 5,000 'trouble free' miles on my 2019 Monkey. This bike has it all - looks, comfort, low cost, reliability, ease of maintenance, economical, modifications galore and most importantly FUN FACTOR 😀.
I really like my 2022 Monkey, but I wouldn't call it cheap. I paid nearly 6G's out the door for it. The bike I bought before it was a 2012 NC700X I bought new in 2013. A whole lot more bike for 7G's out the door.
I own this exact bike stock. A red 2021 Monkey. I can say without hesitation, it's the most fun and relaxation I have ever had on two wheels. It does help I live in an area where there's endless beautiful wooded trails; Lakeside, AZ. More Pine Trees here per square mile than anyplace in the country, a true fact. Riding my Monkey in the woods in Lakeside, AZ is like therapy for me. Nothing relives stress for me like trail riding my Monkey. I LOVE it!
I was at a Honda office today and they had one of these on display. Immediately came home to google it. Might have to buy one. Absolutely gorgeous in person.
As a teenager I had 50cc honda monkey, such a small and nimble bike that you could drive on all terrain. Now I'm quite a short dude, at only 5'4, the monkey has been the only motorcycle that I could flatfoot, every other bike I'm tippy toeing or only one foot on the ground. Futhermore, because of this, I have dropped every single motorcycle I've owned on its side, because if the ground isn't level, I can't get my foot on the ground haha. But somehow, I've managed to ride even tall dirtbikes. I haven't had a motorcycle for two years now and I miss riding, the honda monkey 125 seems like a fun bike for b-roads and honestly that is the most fun type of motorcycle riding, riding on the highway gets old fast. Honda monkey, the ultimate bike for a short person like me? I should go test drive one.
Had a Honda ST70 in 71 loved it. Was always hankering for that feeling so 49yrs later bought the Monkey 125. It's put a spring in my step😁 Honda done it proud, glorious, beautiful from every angle, joy to ride. Every time I go out someone wants a photo or chat, you realise the impression the original made. Buy one you'll not regret it, the only problem I've encountered is aching cheeks through smiling.
hehe I got my Monkey at the age of 49 and as you say it is a happy place to be and it works I took it on a 350 km ride in one day and it was like nothing except aching cheeks by smiling
I rented a Honda Wave 125i for a week a couple of years ago in Chiang Rai as I had always wanted to ride one. I liked the engine but hated the semi-automatic box. I test rode a Monkey a couple of months ago and was disappointed. It felt so flat. I think I've been spoiled acceleration-wise by my Aerox 155. If the Monkey had a 150 cc engine and 14'' wheels, it would be worth buying. Beautiful scenery; excellent video.
I bought a Grom. Groms are hard to find here in Michigan and Monkeys are outright impossible. My dad liked my Grom so he put money down on a Monkey and has been waiting for over two months for it to come in so we can ride together. I can’t wait.
I’m still trying to decide which to get, a Grom or Monkey. I like the look of the Monkey more but I’m thinking Grom cuz there’s more customization from what I’ve seen. I’ll probably buy whichever I can find first
@@rickymahoney6664 I just did my MSF on 5yr old, utterly thrashed Groms. They have been dropped, crashed, dumped (guilty), and rev'd in ways that should murder lesser bikes. I have just a similar one even though I live totally other side of the earth, Finland. I Just love it, rode it 15.000km this year allready. Just today rode a 7 km long sand beach, riding by the shoreline. Fun stuff. Rode on loose sand too and lots of forest trails. P. S. My aunt and cousins live in Auckland.

Right now after 7 bikes included harley, suzuki and yamahas... i can't wait to return to a motorcycle a can store inside my studio. Cheap to run and oh boy... since my 16 years old it is a dream to own a real honda monkey. I would love to take for sure the a msx 125 because it's feel more motorcycle and everything it add but my heart says monkey !
I have the 2019 Monkey in red too. But today I informed my Honda dealer, that I will buy a 2022 Monkey with 5 gears (and new Euro 5 Motor for germany) in pearl glittering blue. So I put my red Monkey in payment. I was satisfied with my 2019 Monkey, but I want the motor with 5 gears and better rear shocks. Unfotunately the wheels are in black, also the rear swingarm. In fact of costs - so I think. Greetings from Bavaria German to New Zealand.
I have this exact colour Monkey model here in the UK still under 100miles on the clock as I haven't had the time to use it now it needs a new battery. Fun bike to ride and great for people to learn on.

In the Uk you have a choice of two versions. The original (which I have on order) has a four speed gearbox and the 2022 option which has a five speed gearbox. Another change is frame colour and wheels. The original Monkey has red, black or yellow frame, the same as the tank colour. It also has silver wheels. The 2022 Monkey has black wheels and black frame, regardless of tank colour. This review is for the Original Monkey as supplied in the UK, not the 2022 updated Monkey.
