Yes finally a behind the scenes vlog again!! Keep them coming :-)
Hey Rob, I like how you've managed to keep your channel relevant with new or different material, or new ways of looking at previous subjects. I see several other sports photography channels peter out after they've hit all the main points and they seem to run out of new ideas or new subjects to talk about. Keep it up!
Thanks Jack I appreciate that. I've tried to mix in some general photo/camera stuff alongside the sports to keep it interesting
Cool vid Rob. Interesting to hear what you deliver to the club, I'm always scared of missing a shot so end up taking thousands. Need to break my mental barrier there.
The glamorous life of a pro photographer 😳 great vid Rob!
Cheers Tony
Really do like these Pro football photos out and about videos Rob..............you definitely got all the right kit and take a awesome photo..........stay safe...........thanks for sharing
Cheers Ian, I appreciate that
Hey Rob, loved the video BTS. Brought back memories of when I worked in Scotland during the winter. In Australia now but don't cover football (soccer in Oz). I'd like your thoughts on how waterproof (not resistant) you find the R6? Using it in the wet season, my 5D MkII was bulletproof in the storms but I'm a bit nervous with the R6. Considering the back screen, is it's as robust, during torrential rain? I can use covers but would prefer not to if I can. Could you also do a wee video on Photo Mechanic workflow please? The R6 is great, especially the latest firmware update. Love the videos, all the best.
Great video
I like both types of video. 👍🏻😃
Cheers Gary
great stuff
Very much looking forward to the "how to stay warm" video with the forecast for this weekend!
Great video as always
🤣
Great stuff, keep doing more of these types of videos if you can. Always find them very interesting and they're great to learn off 👍
Great video Rob. I've never shot an evening game but i have attended a few and they can get bitterly cold. My worst experience was an FA Cup replay at St Marys a few years ago, sooooooo cold. It didn't help that the game was awful either.
This one was particularly cold Steve!
Great video Rob. Love these videos
Cheers mate
Hi Rob, great video as always…. The lonely life of a sports photographer at a midweek game 😊
Cheers John. Yeah these long drive ones can be a stretch
Nice one Rob, have shot a few evening games for the local club and where they are it's a wind tunnel making it even colder than the temp. say's !
BTS really shows someone like myself how to properly prepare for these different situations as I have yet to secure any work at the professional level. But when that opportunity arises it's good to know what to expect and how to be professional about it...Thanks👍🏻
Thanks for sharing.
Cheers Pascal
Have you ever done a video on how you use Photo Mechanic in the field and transfer files while at a game?
I have man yeah, check back through my videos
Intresting to see for me here in sweden. thats just geting into more sports photography.
That's great to hear Anders
@@RobSambles tomorrow ill be shooting a basketball competition here in sweden even thou its low lvl one im still itching to get it done and learn from it aswell to enjoy it. oh and guess what... ITS INDOORS =P
@@andersalmstrom77 I'm shooting basketball tomorrow too. I love indoor sports!
@@RobSambles nice to hear =) sadly the courts is extreamly small here in sweden and this is in a school so the lights and space will be bad but hey fun anyway
Thanks Rob. What is the box on front of your laptop holding card reader or how is it mounted????
Great video.......what is the stool you use?
Avoiding the player warming up I try and keep the linesman out of shot as his eyeline for offside comes across me badly sometimes.
Hey Rob, love your videos! Do u edit the photos befor u send them to the teams? Also during the game?
Thanks Matthias. Yes I do, check my other videos about it
Maybe a future video could be detailing the process after taking the on-scene picture featuring the equipment needed to send the picture out for processing/storage?
Yeah definitely Peter. Plenty of previous videos about this on my channel but more to come in the future
Great video Rob. Quick question- I shoot semi professional football, mainly during daytime. Rarely at night but still possible. I’m on a budget. Using a 70-200 f/2.8 and 17-55 f/2.8. Would you recommend I use one body and buy the 7D MK II…or buy two cheaper 7Ds and allow myself to use two bodies during matches?
If you're just shooting for yourself 1 body os fine but any kind of paid work you should always have a backup
Hi Rob, just recently found your channel and there's a number of your videos which I will be catching up on. Having just watched this video, i found myself wondering about your workflow when at a game. What software do you use? What's the process that you use to send on your photos during the match. Not sure if other people have asked but I'd be interested in a video where you do a step by step process showing how you do this. Keep up the good work, cheers. Alan
Hi Alan. I've covered the workflow and step by step etc in other videos so definitely have a look around the channel
Rob, I don't know if you saw earlier comments I made. Do you ever shoot girls volleyball, dance competitions, or horse shows? Those are the 3 sports I shoot primarily, and now that I have the R6, I am curious about your experience with it in those venues
Sorry man - I try to keep up with all the comments, sometimes it gets on top of me. I've shot volleyball and dance no issues at all. I'd use the manual shutter rather than electronic for the volleyball though. I can't say I've ever shot horses but it should be fine for all of thoses. Its a great camera
@@RobSambles I too used mechanical shutter (that's what you meant by "manual", right?
Will you post video of that? Thanks. I have a tournament this weekend. I hope the sales are good!
@@SJHFoto yeah sorry I meant mechanical shutter. Its not something I shoot often so not sure there'll be a video.
@@RobSambles Oh, you meant manual shutter? I'm not sure what that is. I thought you meant mechanical. Did you see how we sell our images? A video is here on youtube:
ua-cam.com/video/EeFrPIVs5B0/v-deo.html
@@SJHFoto yeah mechanical mate
Great video rob, such a cool perspective. Some of these look a little stopped down with focus on multiple players…I’d imagine you are pinning your shutter speed, and adjusting aperture to achieve your DOF / exposure, or am I wrong?
Mostly shot at f2.8 but some of the stuff on 70-200 was at f4. I tend to set shutter and aperture and then adjust iso primarily
@@RobSambles 👍👍thanks Rob for scratching that curiosity, cheers
Hi rob im doing photography for Auckland United a football team in New Zealand and I was wondering it may be a little personal but just to help me, how did you get paid?
I use the 90D with the 70-200 for my son's soccer team. The team is U19 high level. My pics are soft and hit or miss. Camera or my settings? I appreciate any advice. My son is going to St John’s next year and hoping for some playing time.
Make sure your shutter speed is high enough
Really enjoyed this video Rob. It was a great insight into how you go about shooting a game; I’m defo taking a stool next time I’m shooting my local rugby match. Can I ask what Monopod you use?
Mine's a Carbon fibre Sirui one. Nothing too fancy, just fairly sturdy
wheres the fans was it behind closed doors
Hi Rob, what sort of price do you charge do cover this type of thing? PM if you prefer not to share. Cheers Dale
Hi Rob. I have the same 400mm and 70-200mm as you. I was wondering how do you find the FPS on the R6 compares to the 1DX? I've read that it doesn't achieve 12FPS with those lenses. Do you notice much difference with the 1DX?
20fps for me with this one on electronic shutter 🔥
Hi Rob. How many images do you take per match? What ISO were you using on each camera? Looks freezing well done. 👍🏻😃
Iso varied all the time but probably in the 2500-3200 area for a lot of this. Photos vary a lot, I probably took a few hundred and then used about 70
