I'm taking their course for the part 107 test and I have already taken the on hands flight lesson. The flight lesson was better than I expected. I had talked to other companies but this seemed the best. I glad to say I was right. The course for the test is set up for you to pass it easily and theyve answered questions quickly too. I'm very happy I found them.
Wow this video may have saved me a major problem. I had no idea about registering my drone. I found out abiut the PART 107 after purchasing it and studied for that and passed it. So i thought I was good but after running across your video I am now fully registered and hope i dont have to do anything else but enjoy flying and enhancing my UA-cam CHANNEL which was the only real reason I even bought the drone. Again thanks video super helpful.
It is so difficult to find information on company-specific registrations, and yesterday I went down a rabbit hole looking at Part 47 and the CARES site. Finding this video really simplified everything I needed to know in order to register on my company's behalf.
So I just did everything covered in this video for my Mavic Air 2. I just shot video for my monetized UA-cam channel with my drone. Am I able to upload that new video with drone footage now to my monetized channel? Don't I need to take a Part 107 test first? I am confused now that I have the drone registered with FAA (as shown in this video), but I was never asked to take the test.
Yes, you'll want to go through the certification process. It's pretty straightforward, more information in this video: ua-cam.com/video/dH7XFcOq7dY/v-deo.html
Appreciate the process explanation! Question for you, I just bought my drone (not registered yet), but I'm also currently studying for the Part 107 license. Do you need to have the license first before you can register a drone commercially?
Hi Lina! No, you do not need to have a Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate in order to register your drone under the Part 107 rules. I'd go ahead and get it registered!
@@uavcoach This has been extremely helpful. I just purchased a drone and want to register it. I plan on using it commercially with my real estate business but haven't taken the Part 107 yet. In your video you stated that I should register my drone anyway. My questions is: should I register my drone as recreational and then once I do receive my certificate can I go to the FAA site and update or edit my registration as commercial? Will there be another fee to change that?
@@Catskillproperties Hi John, yes there would be another $5 fee to change. I'd go ahead and register commercially. Even if you're flying recreationally, that's OK. You satisfy the registration requirement. This way, you wouldn't have to change from recreational to commercial.
I think you need to make an updated part 2 to this video as when I checked today, the recreational registration also needs the drone information serial number, etc. it is also asking me if I had the remote-id capability ... which I have to look up and figure out. Great video .. please if possible do this update so it can help people like me who are newbies.
Hi Kashif, please check out the notes in the description of this video. Sounds like you were able to figure out already, but to anyone else reading, please select "no" if asked about Remote ID capability at this time.
@@uavcoach Thank you for looking into it. I am sure it will help a lot more people who are getting into this hobby. Again thank you for the awesome work.
hi friend i have been living in california for 2 months. if i fly dji mavic air 2 and shoot only on youtube for my channel should i register the drone as recreational flyer? 🙂
Hi there, if your videos are purely recreational, then you can register as a recreational flyer and must go through free FAA TRUST training - uavcoach.com/faa-recreational-drone-training/
@@wowimpuls I've used a label maker before if you have access to one. I also hand-write on a sheet of paper then use light tape to affix to the exterior.
Thank you for this really useful video. I intend to take my 107 soon, so I understand it's best if I just register commercially up front, but I operate under 2 business names and would use for both. Should I put both in the DBA section?
I didn't know I had to do that regardless of hobby or not. But i do think that it's a good thing to keep it fun and safe for everyone. I really like my mavic air 2. Thanks for this.
Yes, if you are just flying recreationally, there's a quick (and free) certification process required by the FAA. More information here: uavcoach.com/faa-recreational-drone-training/ If you plan to fly for non-recreational purposes, that's a different certification and here's more info: uavcoach.com/drone-pilot-ground-school-course/
@@uavcoach random question, but I'm deciding what kind of sd card I want. Is 128 gb enough? Because I'm deciding between the less expensive (128gb) and the more expensive (1tb) sd card. But I'm going to be flying a lot so I don't know if 128 g would be enough
@@whiteobama5441 128 GB is quite a bit of space, even if you're flying a lot. Either way, you'll want to consider backup storage using hard drives or cloud storage or both. I would want to double-check this, but I'm not sure DJI officially supports storage over 64GB. I've been using a 128 GB card in my Mavic 2 Pro and have never had any issues with it, but have bever tried a 1 TB micro SD card.
Non-Recreation also includes Religious Events/Organizations even if done for free and also filming your sister, brother, friend, cousin, etc. wedding event. Very good point in the video that if your drone is already registered Recreationally & you plan on using it commercially, you have to register that specific drone Commercially.
Yes, the FAA has done a great job clarifying their language around what 'non-recreational' means. It was confusing for a while, but it feels a lot clearer now. From their website - "Non-recreational purposes include things like taking photos to help sell a property or service, roof inspections, or taking pictures of a high school football game for the school's website. Goodwill or other non-monetary value can also be considered indirect compensation. This would include things like volunteering to use your drone to survey coastlines on behalf of a non-profit organization. Recreational flight is simply flying for fun or personal enjoyment."
@@uavcoach thank you for clarifying that. I work in civil engineering and we just like to look at areas along our beaches before a project starts. The video/pic is not sold or used for the actual client. Just for our reference. So I am assuming that is under the recreational label?
@@chrismellon127 Ooh, this is a good one. You might think recreational, but the FAA would call this non-recreational since it's being used to improve the operations of your civil engineering project. Recreational is flying PURELY for recreation. There's commercial intent here.
@@uavcoach Interesting! Thank you for clarifying that. I plan on taking my part 107 but def need to study because I am very new to flying. But now I can let our owners know this information.
Thanks for the video. I had to add my Mavic Air 2, your video didn’t cover the remote ID part, at first I clicked standard remote ID but it would not accept the SN so I clicked No for remote ID. Does the Air2 have remote ID? Thank you.
Yes, please read this video's description/notes for more information. We recorded this video just before the FAA made some updates to the process. I'm surprised they haven't taken that question down yet.
@@uavcoach sorry, didn’t read the description but YES that answers it. So frustrating, I entered every number I could find on the box, drone and app before selecting NO. I saw this video on your site and went directly to UA-cam to comment, so didn’t read the description. You guys are awesome and filled with great info. Subscribed!
Great video I just have one question if I want to use some drone footage for my UA-cam channel (my drone is under 250 grams) do I need to register my drone even though I do not have the amount of subscribers needed to get paid on UA-cam?
Hi Emanuel, thanks for your question. It depends on the intent of your flight. If it's pure recreation and falls under the FAA's recreational rules (www.faa.gov/uas/recreational_fliers/), then there's no need to register. If you consider your drone flights to be non-recreational, then you would need to get your drone registered. If you're unsure, we usually recommend registering. I hope this helps!
"Registration" and "certification" are two different things - regardless of how you're using the drone, it needs to be registered per the guidance in this video. But I think you're asking about the Part 107 certification and whether or not you need to get your FAA Remote Pilot Certificate - short answer is yes, if you have any intention of monetizing your UA-cam channel, that would be considered non-recreational in nature, so you'd want to get certified (and to register your drone under the Part 107 rules and not recreationally). Hope that makes sense!
Yes, even if you take the Part 107 exam to get your Remote Pilot Certificate from the FAA, you'll still need to register your drone separately (and pay the $5 fee) through the FAADroneZone website.
Great question - you'd be registering recreationally, which is where you get one number and can apply that number to multiple drones. No need to get each one registered separately.
UAV coach, I just bought my first drone, the mini 2. Obviously I’m hooked. So, I’m planning on getting the mavic 3 soon. Just recreational for now. I understand I will need to register the mavic 3 however, there is so much information and talk about remote ID and I don’t want any part of that. Has anything changed that will force me to do anything else other than just registering the mavic 3 ?
Big Jay, thanks for reaching out. No news yet re: Remote ID, but pilots won't need to start complying until September 2023. Hoping that it'll be super easy for pilots to comply.
What kind of drone are you using? I am asking simply because I want to follow your courses and I believe that your drone is a great fit for what I'm attempting to accomplish with this path. Please let me know! Thanks so much!
Great video, but i have a few questions. If you are registering recreationally do you need to take a test and if i do where do i take the test? Also, do i need a ID card or a sticker to put on my drone?
Yes, that will be announced in the coming weeks. It's a new requirement for recreational pilots. Will be very easy (and free) to get through. You do not need to buy an ID card or sticker, but your registration number does need to be put on the outside of your drone. Some people use a label maker for that. I've used a white piece of paper with scotch tape! The only required cost is the $5 registration fee.
Hello again. Just bought a DJI air 2S for my business and registering it on drone zone. First thing they ask now is if the UAS or device equipped with remote identification capabilities? Since were kind of in limbo I don't know what to put here. Is my drone equipped that you know of? Thanks for your time.
Ooh, great question! This is brand new as of a few days ago. There are currently NO drones that are Remote ID equipped, so you can check the "no" box until drone manufacturer compliance evolves a bit more. It's inappropriate for the FAA to be asking this question at this time :(
Hello this is Javier and I have a DJI MAVIC 3 cine and I wanted to register my drone but I couldn’t, the FAA didn’t recognize my serial number and I call to DJI technical support and they told me that these drones are register automatically. I myself would like to be very certain about this. Do you know anything about this matter?
I am registering mine right now(22May2021), it is asking IS YOUR UAS OR DEVICE EQUIPPED WITH REMOTE IDENTIFICATION (REMOTE ID) CAPABILITIES? I am registering as recreational...I have the mavic air 2...not sure if that is a yes or no?
You would mark "no" - The FAA made this change a few weeks ago. I wish they wouldn't have, as it's a bit premature and confusing for folks! Thank you for surfacing in these comments, and I'll add a note to the description of the video. Here are some more notes from Kevin Morris at the FAA - "Drone registration update: The FAA DroneZone portal has been updated to incorporate Remote ID information. The update requires a registrant to indicate if their drone is Remote ID equipped or not. Currently, there are NO drones which are equipped with Remote ID. Although there are blogs and other sources which may claim differently, the FAA has not approved any Means of Compliance (MOC) for Remote ID at this time. If a registrant selects 'Yes' to the Remote ID equipped question, they will be required to enter additional information, including a serial number. The serial number needed is NOT the drone's serial number, rather, it's the Remote ID serial number (which doesn't exist). Entering the drone's serial number will not be accepted and not allow the drone to be registered."
I already have two drones, and want to register my 3mini pro. I know you use the same number and I just got my part 107. Do I have to do anything ? Thanks
I’m in Freetown. Sierra Leone, West Africa. I just purchased an F22 SJRC Pro 4k for recreational purposes. Do I need to register my drone? Don’t have a credit card. Any alternative payment medium? e.g. Bank transfer? Jonathan
I have a question about registering a drone. When I purchase my drone and register my drone at first as a recreational drone flyer. Then 6 months later I decide to register for commercial for a start up business. Can I do that ? Thank You
I have a quick question. I just bought the dji mavic 3. I was curious does it support the remote ID that will be required in the United States. Second if not will it be updated with firmware to support remote Id. Or will I need to get another drone.
Hi there, congrats on the DJI Mavic 3. I'm having a ton of fun with mine right now. To make a long story short, there are zero drones that are remote ID compliant at this time. When registering your drone, select "no" for now when asked about Remote ID. By September 2022, we should have more clarity from both the FAA and drone manufacturers like DJI as to what our next steps are as pilots.
Hi! Great video. My question Is... I bought a Dji mini 2 (249g) do i need to register it? Cause says Every drone. Even Is for recreational purposes. I want to be safe with the law. So should do it?
Thank you for this informative step-by-step video. Quick question, I registered my drone under Part 107 in my own name, since I will be using it both recreationally and commercially. If in the future I do want to create my own freelance business with my drone, will I need to select Add User, and proceed with my business name under the Part 107 Administrator role? Is this Add User tab mostly for others who are going to be flying my drone either recreationally or commercially? Appreciate your time!
Sara, thanks for your comment. Yes, the Add User would be for another individual flying your drone. When you have the name of your LLC, you can update your existing user profile if you'd like, but there's no requirement to do that if you're the only one flying that drone. Hope this helps!
Hi I have a question just bought a dji mini 3 pro to have my drone work commercially with real estate do I need to take the 107 part license or just register it with $5? Or do I need both?
I'm a little confused and hope you can clear it up. I want to get the Dji Mini 2 but a little worried and want to get a few things clear if you can. It's under the 250g registration requirement and I would be flying it for recreation. I ran across a video of someone that had one, posted videos to youtube, and because he had ads on his channel, he said he got in trouble with the FAA because even though he was only making a small amount of money, it was still considered "Commerical Use" and considered it "being used for a business for making money". If I have a youtube channel, show drone footage but no ads on that video, but ads on other videos I have without the drone, will the FAA have a problem with that ? If say I decide to get a bigger drone, or register my drone just to be safe even if it's under 250g, and register it "I fly under part 107 or as a public aircraft" it say's " ... apply for a waiver/authorization under part 107 ... " If you register the drone under that, do you have to take the part 107 testing ?
Hi Danny, thanks for reaching out. If you turn off ads for your drone-specific UA-cam videos, that seems like a good, safe position to take. You can register the drone "under Part 107" if you'd like, but I would only do that if you plan at some point in the future to get your license. If you have any more questions, shoot us a note at support(at)dronepilotgroundschool(dot)com and we are happy to help.
If I don't have a business but want to use my drone for making music videos for my own studio which isint a business do I still need to register under 107? I am not running a drone business taking money for it im using it for my own video editing to do what I want with the video footage which I may eventually make money from said music video or something
Hi, I'm trying to figure out if I need to register under the Recreational Flyer or Part 107. I plan to fly a DJI Mavic Air 2 to capture footage when traveling and put it on social media and possibly a personal UA-cam channel. Since the footage I may upload WON'T be for any organization and will ONLY be for my own personal accounts (which I don't make any profit/money with) will I be able to just register under the Recreational Flyer and NOT have to register under Part 107 and NOT take the certification test? Thank you guys, very informative video!!
Yes, this would be considered recreational use. You'll also want to go through the FAA's new recreational training that launched just yesterday! More information here: uavcoach.com/faa-recreational-drone-training/

Do I need to register and take that test? And how do I take that test? Any info would be appreciated because I'm trying to do things right but I'm a bit confused with what I need to do.
Yes, this video was recorded prior to TRUST, which was just announced this week. Fortunately, TRUST is almost as easy as the registration process and takes about 20 minutes! Thanks for the video. One question I have that has not been asked here yet. If I am starting my own business and part 107 what do I do when it says enter the serial number if I build my own quads?
Good question! Under the UAS Type drop-down, you would select 'Home Built.' With the other fields, do the best you can - under Manufacturer as an example, you could write 'Self' or put in the name of your flight control software. And under Serial Number, you could put something like '00001' if it's your first build, '00002' if it's your second build, etc.
@@uavcoach thank you so much for your response. I really appreciate you and the way you interact with your comment section is much respected. Happy flying!
I accidentally created a part 107 account and I'm not planning to fly for commercial purposes. Should I just register it there or make a recreational account.
If you've already paid the $5, I'd recommend keeping the commercial registration, as it satisfies the requirement to register recreationally. But if you haven't paid yet, I'd recommend registering your drone recreationally if you truly have no plans to fly it commercially.
Regarding part 107 license is it obligatory when used commercially only, not for recreation? So as long as drone is recreational up to 55 lbs doesn't need part 107 license?
Correct, Part 107 is for non-recreational use. If you're flying a drone just for recreation / fun, you would go through the TRUST process (uavcoach.com/faa-recreational-drone-training/). You are correct that 55 lbs or over, and you have some other paperwork / applications to consider!

You can go ahead and register your drone if you'd like, but yes, prior to flying you'll want to go through the TRUST training and test. Fortunately a very straightforward and quick process!
can you register and take the exam for commercial without the drone? I havent bought yet and was planning on study and take the exam before buy the drone.
I heard that you have to take a test for part 107 registration. Is this true? Also, I was only planning to fly recreationally but if I want to take it above 400 feet or past my pov, shouldn't I just go ahead and get the part 107 registration?
"Registration" and "certification" are two different things - you do NOT have to take a test to register your drone through the FAADroneZone website, but you DO have to take a test if you plan to fly under the Part 107 regulations as a commercial (AKA non-recreational) drone pilot. If you need to fly higher than 400 ft. AGL or beyond visual line of sight, then yes, at this time you would need to not only become certified under the Part 107 regulations, but you would need to apply for additional waivers.
Hi, great vid, the messaging was concise and informative on how to register your drone. My question is related to drone registration, specifically on international UAS operators. I’ll be visiting my brother who resides in the US and I’d like to fly my drone while I’m there. My drone under 55lbs and is registered in my home country of Trinidad & Tobago 🇹🇹 and while I’m in the US, I’d like to have it registered, how can that be done?!??
Hi Scott, you don't need a U.S. address to register a drone, so follow the steps in this video and pay your $5 recreational flyer registration fee. Let us know if you have any specific questions about the process. Safe travels!
Hi…thanks for your response. I was able to follow your directive and using the exception for recreational flyers, I have successfully registered my drone, so thanks for that. I thought there would be something extra since I’m not a US citizen, but it was straight forward…thanks again, much appreciated 🙏🏼
Even if you mostly are flying recreationally, if you plan to fly even once commercially, I'd go ahead and get the drone registered commercially. Registering commercially satisfies the recreational registration requirement, so you don't have to register it both recreationally AND commercially. And you don't need to have your Part 107 certificate to register your drone commercially, but you'll want to get certified before you fly for commercial purposes. I know the order of operations here can get a bit confusing, let us know if you need clarification or have any other questions!
Thank you for the helpful vid. Could I ask if there are no way to proceed this registration by foreign people? I'm a Japanese and considering to fly drones in the US.
I heard you need a test for part 107 license but you didn’t do a test and I heard it costs 175$ to fly commercial but you said to register it only cost 5$ I don’t understand do you need to register the drone and get license or do you get a license when you register a drone I don’t understand
Yes, drone registration is separate from getting certified to fly commercially. More information on that process in our other video over here: ua-cam.com/video/dH7XFcOq7dY/v-deo.html

Hal, if you're flying for recreational purposes, you can use the same number on multiple drones. If you're flying for commercial purposes under the Part 107 rules, you'd need to register each drone model uniquely.
Thanks for a very quality video. I was unable to register my drone however due to not being able to find the serial number. I have a F11 4k Pro and it's not under the battery. The only numbers I could find were directly on the battery and a ink stamped number on the box. Are either of these the serial #? Thanks.
Hi John, we don't have access to that specific model, but if you're trying to register for recreational use, then you don't need a serial number. If you're registering under the Part 107 commercial rules, then yes, you'd need a serial number. Do either of the two numbers you're referencing have SN or S/N next to them?
@@uavcoach Thank you for the reply. I just was informed by Captain Drone they don't have a serial number on this model? I purchased the drone based on his review of it. His reply did not include a solution to this problem. Perhaps you might have one. Massive cool. Please let me know.
@@johnaguiar4128 Don't think you'll be penalized here - just do the best you can. If there's another identifiable number on the drone, try using that as the serial number. Or if there's an order number in your email, you could use that too.

What do I do now in the registration process where the FAA is asking me if my UAS has RID and it's not on the list of approved Models? I'm having a difficult time trying to contact the manufacturer for this information.

I'm not a US national but I want to fly for recreational purposes. My aircraft is less than 250 grams, do I need to register? Can I register if I want to? How long does it take?
Might be worth following up with the FAA for clarification (www.faa.gov/uas/contact_us/), but on their website, they say that foreign operators do not need to register as long as they have a certificate of ownership. Here's the exact language - "For foreign operators the FAA will consider the certificate issued to be a recognition of ownership rather than a certificate of U.S. aircraft registration."

If I’m shooting a short film and I want to use a drone for landscape shots, would that count as recreational or commercial? From my understanding, it would only be commercial if I intended to make a profit off of the film.
That is correct, Levent - this would be considered a "non-recreational" flight. Let us know if you have any questions about the certification process! More information over here >> uavcoach.com/drone-pilot-ground-school-course/
Serious question, since my drone is under 249g, it says I don’t have to register with the FAA, because I am a recreational flyer, BUT without registering….. Can I still use LAANC?
Just someFYI, Things must have changed since you made this video, because i attempted to register my Drone and following the "Safty Guidance" tab is now a "Inventory" tab along with a "Add Device" tab requesting the dornes info and Remot ID, before one can proceed to the payment tab.
Hi Carlos, yes please read the other comments and more specifically, the description below this video where we have added some notes. To anyone else reading this, select [no] when asked about Remote ID capabilities.
I just purchased a mevic h6 what would I register it under if I am using it for UA-cam but UA-cam does not pay me yet because I am not at the requirements to monetize my videos yet.
Hi Sugo, if you plan to eventually fly it for non-recreational purposes, then I'd go ahead and register under Part 107. If you only plan to fly for fun / recreation, then I'd register it under the recreational part of your account.
So i want to fly the mavic 2s as a hobby, like filming weddings, family events, events for fun. Nothing to do with money, but my biggest concern is, if i post it on social media would that effect my recreational license?
Whether or not a flight is recreational or non-recreational isn't always about the exchange of money. The FAA has more info here - www.faa.gov/uas/recreational_fliers - but if you're just flying for pure fun / recreation and following all the other recreational drone rules, no problem sharing those photos/videos on social media. If you had a monetized UA-cam account, or your media was being used to promote any kind of service or organization or anything, that's where lines can get crossed. Hope this helps!

@@stinkytofu75 I just updated the link. Again, it's not about profit vs. non-profit. It's about the intent of the flight. If it's for pure recreational / fun, that falls under the recreational rules laid out in the link above. Hope this helps!
I tried to register my mavix air 2 recreational and it wanted me to add a device. When I put the s/n in it said invalid number.??? Also I'm not sure if this device is equipped with remote identification capability...
I think we'll need an update video soon. I just registered as recreational flyer for now as I plan on just making youtube videos with a few drone shots on my travels. On the website after i registered there was no option to add my drone model. But an authorization of some sort that requests 'operation title' (no idea what to put there as im just flying for myself) and job type of field inquiries required, such as times, days, and reasoning for your flying.
Thanks for the comment! Yes, the recreational registration process is slightly different in that you're not registering a specific model. You're paying $5 for one number that can be applied to multiple drones for a 3-year period. I believe the authorization form you're referencing is for controlled airspace authorization. That's not required for this registration process, but if you need to fly in controlled airspace, you can follow the steps in your FAA Drone Zone dashboard to request clearance.
Hi Nick, yes as long as you are following all the other recreational rules (www.faa.gov/uas/recreational_fliers/) - you'll want to make sure that you're not in controlled airspace and that you're not flying directly over people / moving vehicles as well. But lots of amazing drone footage shot (safely and legally) in various urban environments!
@@Chupapi_dabs It's up to the pilot to determine what "directly" over people means. You'd need to consider your specific flight path, risk tolerance, atmospheric conditions, etc.
Do you know if you can modify the registration once completed? Example. Go from "No" remote ID to "Yes" remote ID, later on. Or change name of Part 107 account name?
Good question, Pedro. I recall many things that you can change by hopping in to edit the account/profile information. Yes, I believe the Remote ID question can be edited in the future.
Hi Thomas, you can register your drone whenever you'd like - either before you get a Part 107 certificate, or after. When you register doesn't matter, just as long as you do it (and put the registration number on the drone) prior to flying.
That's awesome, congrats on passing and glad you enjoyed our course! Blue skies and safe flying!
Incredibly helpful video with everything I need to know in one place. This saved me so much time, you're doing God's work man, appreciate you
Thank you so much! Glad you found it helpful!
Glad you found us! Yes, fortunately the registration process is pretty easy. And congrats on passing the FAA Part 107 certification exam!
I just passed the TRUST test from your website befor I found your video. So cool
Awesome, glad you found us!
Thank god its quick to get your drone registered
Yes, super easy!

Very good video, this answers all my questions. My first drone ordered has shipped today so we are excited (we will be recreational)!

Same here!

Hi there, if your videos are purely recreational, then you can register as a recreational flyer and must go through free FAA TRUST training - uavcoach.com/faa-recreational-drone-training/

Glad you found the video helpful! Blue skies and safe flying!
Superb tutorial. Is there a test to take, and is there any extra registration requirements depending on the US state you are in?
Yes, if you are just flying recreationally, there's a quick (and free) certification process required by the FAA. More information here: uavcoach.com/faa-recreational-drone-training/ If you plan to fly for non-recreational purposes, that's a different certification and here's more info: uavcoach.com/drone-pilot-ground-school-course/
Do you give the test certification ?
Thanks :) this will be great for when my mavic 2 pro arrives!
Great model, blue skies and safe flying to you, Gavin!
Wow I Can register my new Mavic 3 I was so happy when he said you can register one you’re 13 because i’m turning 13 tomorrow
Hey, great video and details but how will people know I'm registered and have my license?

@@uavcoach it did help thank you this really helped me a lot I really appreciate it!
Great video 👍🏼.... what if I make just a review video of a drone on UA-cam do I need the 107 registration?
"Registration" and "certification" are two different things - regardless of how you're using the drone, it needs to be registered per the guidance in this video. But I think you're asking about the Part 107 certification and whether or not you need to get your FAA Remote Pilot Certificate - short answer is yes, if you have any intention of monetizing your UA-cam channel, that would be considered non-recreational in nature, so you'd want to get certified (and to register your drone under the Part 107 rules and not recreationally). Hope that makes sense!
Ok one more question I see that there’s people that are take a 107 exam, is it still necessary if I just pay the $5 dollars fee shown in you video ?
Yes, even if you take the Part 107 exam to get your Remote Pilot Certificate from the FAA, you'll still need to register your drone separately (and pay the $5 fee) through the FAADroneZone website.
Thank you ❤ for this information
I fly FPV racing drones do i have to register for each one or does one registration cover all five for recreational use?
Great question - you'd be registering recreationally, which is where you get one number and can apply that number to multiple drones. No need to get each one registered separately.
@@uavcoach Thank you.
I just got my DJI mini 3 pro. Do I need to register for FAA. Just use for personal and family trip. Thank you
Technically, you don't have to register since it's under 250g and just being used for recreational purposes.
Hi Charlie, thanks for reaching out. We fly a number of different models. In this video, we're using a DJI Mavic 2 Pro.
If I have a DJI FPV Drone do I need to register that to the FAA? Thanks!
Yes, you would want to register that given that it weighs more than 250g
So if we want to get the dji mini 2... to fly it for vacation footage for our UA-cam channel is that commercial or not commercial
I just got the dji mini 2 for couple days and have the same concern as well.
Depends if youtube pays you for the video
If you are monetizing your UA-cam channel, then yes, that would be considered commercial intent.
Well done, thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
I’m building an FPV drone myself, but the registration asks for manufacturer and model? What should I put here?
You can put "home made FPV drone" as the manufacturer. Your model could be "NA" or "001" or something like that.
It's inappropriate for the FAA to be asking this question at this time :(
@@uavcoach perfect thank you very much once again. Completely agree with you on that what a way to confuse someone. Happy flying!

I have a question I have already registered with the FAA for one drone I bought another one do I have to re-register or do I use the same numbers
If flying recreationally, you can use the same number. If flying commercially, you need to register the new drone.
If you're just flying recreationally, you don't need to register it since it weighs under 250g.

You'd need both your Part 107 license AND also to register your drone commercially for $5.
Thankyou for this video
If you register the drone under that, do you have to take the part 107 testing ?
Hi Danny, thanks for reaching out. If you turn off ads for your drone-specific UA-cam videos, that seems like a good, safe position to take. You can register the drone "under Part 107" if you'd like, but I would only do that if you plan at some point in the future to get your license. If you have any more questions, shoot us a note at support(at)dronepilotgroundschool(dot)com and we are happy to help.
If I don't have a business but want to use my drone for making music videos for my own studio which isint a business do I still need to register under 107?

Yes, you'd be registering under the "Exception for Recreational Flyers" on the FAADroneZone website.

I bought a mini se, i think it weights under, do I still need to register?
Nicely done. Thank you!
Glad you found it helpful!
So for recreationally purpose drone, FAA does not need the serial number? Also is there any sort of test required?
That is correct. No test for recreational pilots at this time, but that will change soon: www.faa.gov/news/updates/?newsId=96839
If I'm just using my under 249 gram or over drone as recreational to record my family, is that legal?

can you register and take the exam for commercial without the drone? I havent bought yet and was planning on study and take the exam before buy the drone.
Yep! You don't need a drone to register or take the exam.

If I register my drone commercial do I need to get certified? I’m planning on mostly using it recreational.
Yes, you do not need a U.S. address to register your drone!
Very thorough walkthrough! What an easy process
I'm sorry, I have another question. I'm on the faadronzone register page now and I'm trying to add device and they ask me if my device is equipped wirh remote ID... I don't even know what that is, lol. I just opened my dji air 2s but I don't know if it has that and I want to make sure before I answer. Do you know if it does or doesn't? Thanks
Please read the extra notes in this video's description! You'll want to select "no" for that question.
@@uavcoach yes thank you that's what I answered for that question. Once again, thank you, you explained it very well and made it easy.
Not sure if I screwed up. Paid 5 bucks for recreational then 5 for non.
Now I have to different faa I'd numbers... confused...
Do you need to register each drone separately or can you use the same registration # on multiple drones?
Hal, if you're flying for recreational purposes, you can use the same number on multiple drones. If you're flying for commercial purposes under the Part 107 rules, you'd need to register each drone model uniquely.
One question, can I still use FAA TO REGISTER IN trinidad and Tobago?
Here's our page - uavcoach.com/drone-laws-in-trinidad-and-tobago/
I hope this helps!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
I know one of the selections on the FAA site was homemade or something like that, so perhaps I would have to approach the problem in the manner they would? P.S. I loved the footage of your video. Massive cool. Please let me know.
@@johnaguiar4128 Don't think you'll be penalized here - just do the best you can. If there's another identifiable number on the drone, try using that as the serial number. Or if there's an order number in your email, you could use that too.
@@uavcoach I'm going to talk to the FAA tomorrow. The worse case scenario will be my teenage drone wanting son will have a ball with it for rec use LOL. Before I buy another one though maybe you could lead me to a decent one with 4k capabilities that won't break the bank ? Thanks man.
What do I do now in the registration process where the FAA is asking me if my UAS has RID and it's not on the list of approved Models? I'm having a difficult time trying to contact the manufacturer for this information.
Which drone do you have?
I noticed the requirement of the FAA has changed, now they require including the serial number of the remote ID, asking if your drone has a Standard Remote ID or Remote ID broadcast module. Where can I find that information, special the serial number of the remote ID?
Hi Carlos, we're working on a new video...check out the description text in this video for more info!
Thank you very much for your help. You are legend.
Legend?! I wouldn't go that far :) Thanks for the comment, though!
Hi, im trying to register my dji mavic 2 zoom in a reacreational mode, however in the 2nd step, when i need to add a device, is quite different from your video. Now is asking about "Does your drone broadcast FAA Remote ID information?". what i need to choose?. Thx in advance
Hi Ferran, check the notes in the description of this video. You'll want to choose "no" for that answer.
@@uavcoach you are right :) thx for your fast reply. Have a nice day
If I’m shooting a short film and I want to use a drone for landscape shots, would that count as recreational or commercial? From my understanding, it would only be commercial if I intended to make a profit off of the film.
That is correct, Levent - this would be considered a "non-recreational" flight. Let us know if you have any questions about the certification process! More information over here >> uavcoach.com/drone-pilot-ground-school-course/
do you not need serial numbers for a recreational registration?
Serious question, since my drone is under 249g, it says I don’t have to register with the FAA, because I am a recreational flyer, BUT without registering….. Can I still use LAANC?
Craig, great question. Yes, you can still use LAANC authorization as a recreational flyer with an unregistered drone.
@@uavcoach thank you very much!
If you register commercially don't you have to take the 107 test?
How about updating my $5 rec license with a replacement drone ID?
@@uavcoach so my other youtube channel, its just more to show my adventures for memories rather to promote my channel, i know it seems like a repetitive question but i wouldn't get fined for that correct? For non-profit purposes
@@uavcoach also the link you posted in the comment said "page not found"
@@stinkytofu75 I just updated the link. Again, it's not about profit vs. non-profit. It's about the intent of the flight. If it's for pure recreational / fun, that falls under the recreational rules laid out in the link above. Hope this helps!
@@uavcoach okay thank you so much!!
So I shouldn't have to register my mavic mini 2 if I will just be using it recreationally?
That is correct, but you'll still need to go through the FAA TRUST training - uavcoach.com/faa-recreational-drone-training/
@@uavcoach thank you
I tried to register my mavix air 2 recreational and it wanted me to add a device. When I put the s/n in it said invalid number.??? Also I'm not sure if this device is equipped with remote identification capability...
Hi Frank! Please read the description of this video. You'll want to select "no" when asked about Remote ID capabilities. Hope this helps!
As a recreational flyer can I walk around the city flying the drone as long as it’s in sight?
Hi Nick, yes as long as you are following all the other recreational rules (www.faa.gov/uas/recreational_fliers/) - you'll want to make sure that you're not in controlled airspace and that you're not flying directly over people / moving vehicles as well. But lots of amazing drone footage shot (safely and legally) in various urban environments!
@@uavcoach thank you!& what do you mean flying directly?
@@Chupapi_dabs It's up to the pilot to determine what "directly" over people means. You'd need to consider your specific flight path, risk tolerance, atmospheric conditions, etc.
Do you know if you can modify the registration once completed? Example. Go from "No" remote ID to "Yes" remote ID, later on. Or change name of Part 107 account name?
Good question, Pedro. I recall many things that you can change by hopping in to edit the account/profile information. Yes, I believe the Remote ID question can be edited in the future.
Hello, UAV Coach,
Do I need to sign the Part 107 Waivers & Airspace Authorizations before I get my license? Or before I register it? Thank you!
Hi Thomas, you can register your drone whenever you'd like - either before you get a Part 107 certificate, or after. When you register doesn't matter, just as long as you do it (and put the registration number on the drone) prior to flying.
@@uavcoach is the part 107 certificate mandatory?
@@chrisbland5406 Only if you are flying a drone for non-recreational purposes.
