There is no “ugly” stage! Everything you do just adds to your creation. It’s like raising a child. I so enjoy watching you and you boost my confidence. Thank you.
I was yesterday years old before I discovered Edgar Degas' pastel landscapes. My research has brought me here and I'm so happy. I have learned SO MUCH from this video. I can't wait to get started!!! Thank you, you're a very generous tracher💜
Your videos are great lessons that make one's mind ordered enough to think about how to create a painting. I always wanted someone to tell me what the idea behind doing the under layer and if it is mandatory or not. Now I understand. Thank you so much!
Such a nice painting! Thank you for introducing the "ugly stage". I've always struggled with it in my works and your words help me to get used to this stage.
I loved your comment. I have always thought about what art is and how it differs from photography. One captures an image of reality, then an artist feels what is not seen by the eye and translates by our soul.
Happy New Year! Thanks for all you do for the community Karen! I have your Expressive Pastel Painting video course and have learned a lot from it - I've watched it multiple times.
I have a question about soft pastel, would a set of 80 half sticks sennelier plein air landscape be good to start with?Cheap Joe's is selling them for $116.96.
Hi Sue, I do like Sennelier half sticks and they are a good way to start your collection. They are very soft though so it is helpful to also have a set of harder pastels such as Nupastels.
You needed To create a path from the front of the scene to the distant area. Your reference photo doesn’t have a clear light source. I might have chosen a different image.

Have you tried Spectra Fix non toxic fixative?
Nice drawing, it is oil pastel or soft pastel?
Soft👍
Karen, How do you attach your paper so firmly to the large board? I see no taping not he paper. Thanks.
I use black artist tape and make tape hinges in each corner. So I put a piece of tape on the back sticky side up and then tape over this piece.
@@KarenMargulis I'm so glad this viewer asked you that, Karen! That method of attaching is genius. One of those "why didn't I think of that?" things😂
