- In this episode of In Focus we delve into the dangers of falling for the beauty standards set by the society. There are so many myths associated with beauty and for people in the beauty business this can mean navigating through multiple different aspects as well. In this episode we have Jovita George who is a beauty vlogger for several years now and has her own channel on UA-cam. She is very popular for her honest take on brands and her unique style of presentation. Her make up tutorials are very popular.
On the panel we have Maria Dominic who is a social media influencer. She also has a candid take on things and is never someone to mince words. She talks about how her self-confidence was affected as a result of weight gain and how she has gained her confidence slowly over a period of time.
Then we have Dr Annu Jayan MD, Skinessence. She is a dermatologist. She shares her experience of having to handle clients and patients with unreasonable beauty goals. She talks about the unfair practices that happen in society and how even children fall prey to it.
In this free-flowing conversation there are several insights, takeaways for all. We cover subjects like body positivity, body shaming, prejudices against skin color, challenges for people in the beauty business etc.

How many of you experienced body shaming?

Me because of slim
I really admire what Jovita said, usually ppl who are bullied that young based on skin color or physique don't have the confidence to put themselves out there, she went for Miss Kerala inspite all of that, kudos to her parents for supporting her and backing her up.
I like the ethics of that Dr...kudos ! ..loved this topic and the guests did justice to it. Beautiful women with brains
I have been through a lot of bullying and shaming about the colour and shape of my teeth.
For many years I never smile in front of others because I have been told if I smile I look unattractive.
Yet now I am more confident in who am
Dhanya this episode will empower and give confidence to women
Keep up the good work ❤
Feels really happy to see four independent amazing women talking beauty and lifestyle. Being someone who had always faced body shaming, this felt good. To remind that you are beautiful. Thanks for this episode.
Still remember malayala manorama featured her still she wa strong and confident about color
Fabulous show....this is women
empowerment....!!!!!!! so good to listen to these intelligent beautiful women breaking the discrimination based on colour size n marital status...and ushering new normal
Very refreshing to see the topics being discussed and the guests that are coming on the show. I don’t know if these conversations will have as much viewers as a movie star coming on the show. But keep going. We need such coversations ❤
Wonderful Dhanya Mam..Please bring more women like these elegant people.DHANYA VARMA is creating a lot of difference in the way people think through her interactions.. Selection of Guests is on the mark..Please keep doing the same thing..becuase it is worth it!You are Amazing❤
Wow, that was deep. Lovely panelists, great discussion, loads of wisdom. Thank you and more power to you Dhanya💪❤
Such a great chat with these lovely ladies ❤ Actually watched this show for Jovi & Maria whom I've been following for quite some time. What they've shared is very much similar to my life experiences too...being a fat n dark skinned girl i was body shamed n bullied from childhood.Got married at 20yrs much against my wishes just because of these reasons and also our astrologer said i should get married early 😂 & becoming a mom at 22,i have gone through it all...My opinion is that Dhanya could've avoided that very personal question to Jovi about her after divorce experience, after which we can see has made her upset... Other than that this show is actually an eye opener. That being healthy sized, deep skin toned and being single is quite normal... To prioritize self development and to take care of one's emotional well being rather than paying heed to what others say about you... Loved the entire show, both part 1&2.Hoping to see such great chat shows with women like them🥰 Hugs to all women out there who are struggling in the journey of life... You're not alone🤗
Oh my god! I enjoyed this whole episode so much that i really don't wanted to see this ending 😊
Hats off for all the women's who thinks like this ❤
Great point on physical intimacy and body confidence correlation and normalizing body positivity by not even calling it out as something to be separately mentioned !
Absolutely no words about the talk show. So well said everyone. ❤
Thanks Dhanya again.
I wld like to share one of my experiences from few yrs bac. I work for IT and I was looking fwd for a job change. Went for an interview in a well known it firm. After the interview which I thought went well, I stepped out and the security sitting in reception asked me how it went. I told him, it was good. U knw what he said.. he told me, yah people looking good gets it usually. Though already confused abt myself on that side, I thought I will get it because I am pretty. But , I didn't and the company told me that project didn't happen and so they don't need a hire very soon and I got into another. What struck me more was the thing abt the ' beauty'. I wondered if I didn't get through because I was not beautiful! Haha, quite funny is it.. I know it firm won't look fwd to beauty at all, but still the security made me think so.
People more lightly colored make us think of how colored we r.. People with height make us be more aware of our short height. And everything.and above all People out into older stage make us think abt everything no matter what or how they themselves r. We are always being questioned. My hubby always appreciates me . But, even a ltl mention of anything from him wipes out everything he said positive .. I feel People should never talk abt other's appearance and rather be sticking on to quality a person gives..
Amazing conversation.Thank you to all the special women on this panel who bore their heart

Great words💖💖😍👌
I was trying to summarize for a long time what is success for our society and doctor said it right .. what society defines is look + money. I recently visited my home state Kerala after 3.5 years and was devastated to see how people judge you, insult you about these 2 factors.I hope it changes soon and it becomes a safe place for our younger generation.
Great conversation ❤

Amazing episode #Dhanya @iamdhanyavarma .. just wanted to add 1 point if i may 06:15 There is no "marriage-able age". This is also what aociety puts in ur head .. let people get married or not married when they want.. there is no age atg which it should happen. Even if u dont want to, u should be able to stay as u want to..
there is marriagable age as per law
Men in India are permitted to get married at the age of 21, while the marriageable age for women is 18 years.
It is the minimum age limit 😃
Jovita...!❤️
@ maria dominic just because you are aware about body positivity doesn't mean every one is. Thats y people talk about it. To create awareness.
Powerful people 🫡

I am so happy that these 4 women made my bad day so pretty❤🥹
Beautiful episode, if asked I would also like to add same I think goes for boys, there shd b no stds or expectations to judge what is not good it may be a bald person or short skinny person wht matters is how beautiful the soul is.. ❤
So happy to hear those end thoughts..now am hopeful for my grand daughters who maybe born after 20 years..and also my toxic aunties whom i had to deal with would be gone by then🤞🏼🤞🏽🤞🏿😁
😂😂😂
Le me watching Jovi's closing statements wearing a fluorescent yellow bomber jacket! 😎💯
Such a lovely conversation with lots of great take aways❤ Danya chechy, keep going just the way you are .. Your selection of guests is to the mark...The show is making a lot of difference in the best of endeavors in the society.
You are doing really something very different. So real and relevant. More and more power to you 👍
Joviiiiiiiiiii😍
Body shaming used to be a normal among us. Asians are notoriously known for this. There was a time when this did not hurt too deep. I was all called “melinju tholinjoru pally kochu.” My time being thin was bad and being fat used to be sign of prosperity unless obese. Now people are realizing and being aware of body shaming which is a good thing. Hope we also don’t go woke rather identify and correct it.
Be kind, gentle, each one of us are beautiful, for, we are made in God’s own image...let one person tell me God is not beaitiful! See Him in each other...
❤❤

Doctor chechi, i love you 😘

👍👍
Dont live your life through somebody's eyes🎉🎉🎉🎉
👍👍👍❤️
If I wanted to do movies I could have , but I din go as I did not have talent ! >>> isn’t that subscribing to stereotype of u need to be textbook “ good looking” for acting in movies and end of day just boiled down to good looking >pageant , movies > .
When will we make a movement to ban ‘ fair and lovely’ and similar creams from our markets ?
Why women from all types of financial, professional, social and economic background are missing in this! Dhanya (~Varma, caste name) must reflect about this too
I m dark and i want to get a mookuthy and people says i will look like tamil girl in a bad way
Go and do it, girl!!!! 🎉
Oh I never knew Rubin could be so rude to pull your confidence down Jovi…
If a person is so much confident in her body and in her looks, and still she is doing some artificial things(eg: like u mentioned dark knees)that means she has set a beauty standard for a human body.. U should accept the way your body are.. And doctor told if one has money and all. They could.. But indirectly they are influencing some people in a negative way by being quoted herself as a beauty vlogger.. Just my personal opinion
Watch again,
Bruh! You’re off by quite a bit. If you’re cooking your food which is cultivated on farmland, if you’re using a toothbrush or soap or even medicine, if you’re clothed, or cut your nails or comb your hair - you are doing something “artificial” to maintain your body. 😉 Get off that high horse.
Dhanya mam.... Is this interview only for English speaking people 🤔
Add make up tutorials
ഈശ്വരാ... ഓരോ ആൾക്കാരും എന്തുമാത്രം മറ്റുള്ളവരെ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുന്നു. 😂😂
First one black top..pachuvum albudha vilkaum.. moviyil ille.maria Dominic .
Every time a person gets divorces why do they get on to blaming their partner for their lack of self awareness and self worth ! During the years of love , the social media wedding frenzy, couple videos , couple makeup , pulling in kids more likes wht not ..ppl make fake effort to potray the picture perfect life and then separate and put all the blame on partner for not loving ur self , not being financially independent, not having job , not liking urself ! In or out of marriage , u are responsible for ur problems and ur life and ur beliefs ! If u are handing over key to life that is mistake ! But if u loved person , did not work for u , think about what’s is best but take responsibility for ur past actions and decisions and life !not disown ur whole past life ! If u are a blaming partner for how u behaved , u hve work to do . And please it sis not another cliche video on self love , gratitude , spirituality and cleansing , but real honest work on self !
I have felt that MD is selling her divorce. What else is it except for pictures of Georgi? Someone has also comment the same
Saying "you are not that huge.Kettunilkan pattunilla" is not body positivity. I know her heart is in the right place. But u unknowingly is hurting people who are actually huge
