I'm having so much more fun playing guitar, than ever better. Learning to start riffs on the root notes, and learning the influence of the 5th note is amazing. So many revelations since finding your videos a few weeks ago. Love the Neverlost system. I'm learning the minor pentatonic scales now, and they make so much more sense thanks to you! Realizing the root notes are in the same spots no matter what key, was "Aha" moment. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge! I love your teaching style!

I have always played by ear too like someone else mentioned in the comments below. I started as a little girl, both my parents played piano. I had no lessons but could pick out tunes very early and so it continued. I picked up guitar in my early twenties (should've been much younger as I wanted) and never understood nor bothered with the theory stuff much. The way you teach it makes SOoo much sense but it is also quite awesome to know that what my ear was always telling me, when I threw these notes in, was correct! (Same with some of your other lessons too) I never knew the why nor reason, just that it should. Its like magic being explained. You are such a great teacher Ian, thanks again. My life has taken on a whole new meaning musically!

Epoch! I have never seen anyone else get to that essential concept so quickly and easily. It took me a long time to pick up the minor/major relationship in the I chord. Too many instructors bury it in too much theory.
Extra bonus points for reminding everyone about the "genius" of Hendrix. Not very many people recognize it anymore.

I learned music theory in grade school playing a trumpet. Decided to teach myself guitar and piano - no lessons - just a Mel Bay chord book. LOL! . A lot of trial and error but finally found some success.
I wish you'd been around back then (before the Internet)! You would have saved me thousands of hours in learning to play guitar solos. Most of the "teaching" videos I've watch are only there for one purpose - to give the "teacher" an opportunity to show off their skills.
Nice work my man - keeping things as simple as possible!!!

Got nothin' to say about your guitar tutes except that they are bloody perfect and thank you for posting the best guitar theory explanations out there. You might fix the colour shifts in your future videos by locking down the colour balance setting on your camera. That may be why the hue keeps shifting from blue to red and back again - probably reading the light off your hands.

Luis - I never really had access to an instructor so my learning experience has pretty much always been on line and my discipline leaves a lot to be desired. I have started over more times than I can count over the years and tested the waters on many sites. I was constantly jumping ahead to things above my raisin' before mastering anything. I agree with you about Ian's methods. He seems to be a straight forward human and has the ability to tap into the simple (not diminishing the value) concepts and pass them along. I constantly review his ideas as I go because he builds an excellent foundation in the blues. I credit his instruction to revitalizing my energy to continue learning. You are right on the $ with you're assessment of him as an instructor. TW
