Welcome back Carrie, lovely to see you again. Iron is not something I've ever been overly worried about on a vegan diet. Like you, I add a squeeze of lemon to finish off many meals and I'm confident that I eat enough leafy greens, nuts, seeds and legumes to get my intake. I would however love for you to consider talking about optimizing nutrient requirements for vegans in the run up to menopause. I'm trying to focus on preserving and improving bone health.
I feel like this video was specifically made for me. My iron levels has been critically low and I received an iron infusion. The tablets have such terrible impact on my gut (even the so-called gentle ones). I’d much prefer to keep levelled with whole foods.
Hi Carrie, just want to say thank you so much for your videos - it’s great to see you back again! You’ve helped me loads with the FODMAP diet. Congrats on becoming a registered dietician - you’ll be brilliant x
I switched to plant based diet. I took a blood test and I was slightly anemic. So, I made an effort to have 6 cups of dark leafy greens a day using a bullet blender: 2 cups frozen dark leafy greens (swiss chard kale collard greens), frozen 1/2 firm banana, frozen 1 cup blue berries, 1/2 frozen pineapple, 5 pumpkin seeds or few sunflower seeds (you don’t want to taste the seeds in the drink, they are “hidden”). My iron did increase
Hi Carrie. I'm so happy to see you're back posting. Do you know about histamine intolerance connected to gut dysbiosis? I've been struggling with IBS for too long. I've been on and off the low fodmap diet in the last 2 years and still not reaching a happy place. I find some of the low fodmap foods still give me a reaction. Now I'm thinking that although these foods are low fodmap, they are high in histamine or trigger a release of histamine. I do get seasonal allergies, eg. hayfever. Finding a nourishing diet that will suit me as a vegan with IBS has been a huge challenge. What are your thoughts?
Hi Lorraine. Thanks, I'm happy to be back. I haven't properly studied it yet, but I understand that intolerance to histamine is thought to be due to a lack of an enzyme called diamine oxidase and some of the symptoms can involve IBS type symptoms. I'm really sorry you've been struggling to manage ibs and you're right, all the restrictions + vegan is really hard to get enough of everything you need. I can't give personalised advice over comments, but I'd consider just excluding high histamine foods and forgetting low FODMAP if it's not worked for you and see how you feel xx
Hi Carrie. Thank you for your reply. I have been choosing low histamine over low fodmap. The DAO is mainly derived from animal source, but apparently sprouted peas are also high in it. I live in the southern hemisphere and wer'e going into spring, so its a bit hectic right now, but I will soldier on. Thank you for introducing me to Jo Stepaniak.@@CarrieGill_TheWildGutProject
Very common issue when all the usual protein options are reduced by low FODMAP. I'll definitely make a video on it. In the meantime, I do have some high protein recipes on my website and chanel that you could search for x
I need this information so badly, but I can’t understand what you are saying. You speak really fast and with your accent, it’s impossible. Anyone else having this problem?
❤❤❤ just found you - great content and delivery, I am glad you are back!
Aw thank you! I worried I was checking my phone too much as I feel out of practice 😅

@@CarrieGill_TheWildGutProject thank you! Xx
Same here. Would love to have more options. Was recently diagnosed with SIBO & following low fodmap as part of my treatment.

You can read the linked blog post. Or slow down the video or use the subtitles.
Farewell. You helped me in the past, but now I eat animal-based.
I'm glad to hear I helped you in the past. All the best
