I think that was intentional..they already played "lovers" role in Bajirao-Mastani and Ram-leela I think it was....(not sure if other movies either) but I guess the director wanted Ranveer Singh to be the bad guy this time around...which he did an amazing job I should add...

This queen Padmavati was very very beautiful. This invader guy wanted to have her by hook or Crook. So he attacked their state and defeated them after killing their king and soldiers. Padmavati burnt herself alive with other women in the palace. So Allaudin lost the fight even after winning it. And that place is still haunted where the queen committed "Jauhar". 💝💞 This palace is still there in Jaipur Rajasthan in India.
... well, as a person who learnt history deep, I can say that in ancient times the word 'beautiful' meant she was healthy, with spotless skin, her teeth were intact and she was fertile (same goes to other women who were considered 'beautiful' according to ancient beliefs)... the tradition of self sacrifice is very old - Scythians brought it to Rajasthan 2500 years ago...

No it's not a true story(maybe a little true about the events though) The poet who wrote the Padmaavat poem declared at the end that it was a fiction. Check Wikipedia if you don't believe. Otherwise Bhansali would've started the trailer with the card "based on an incredible true story". The film release simply recieved backfire for no reason.

Yes Mehta saab, those are immortal gems of our Indian Cinema. Sadly, nowadays we never get to experience such rich magical phenomenon except for Bhansali productions.
The story is based on part historical fact of a brutal Afghan Invader ( one of the many) who had plundered and looted Indian Northern territories.You can read about him in Wikipedia. Rajputs were a brave , fierce warrior class of people and ruled and part of many princely states that were in the Rajasthan region. Padmavati is considered a folklore set in the time of Alauddin Khilji..and based on a practice of Rajput tradition where the wife of a King/ Prince vanquished in battle would self immolate herself with many of other soldiers wives who died in the battle as they did not want to meet the fate at the hand of the victor. Later this tradition continued even when the husband died in normal circumstance. This practice was called sati. The British put an end to this practice.

Its a fiction written after 300 years of Johar by a mad poet obsessed with the tales of padmavati's beauty. He even mentioned her vagina in his poem padmavat.
The Johar was real and Khilji never invaded that area.until later on when the johar was performed

This movie is about a 13th century war for the persuit of the queen of Mewar, Padmavati. She was said to be the most beautiful woman of that time, but none except her husband could see her. This spiked the interest of the sultan of Delhi and he brought his entire army to take her. What she does at the end will blow your mind.
Padmavati was the queen of princely state named Mewar,which in current geography of India is respresented by Eastern Rajasthan... The film is based on an event called johar in which women of the state gave up their life by jumping into a pool of fire when the King lost the war and the state was conquered by khilji ...this was performed as khilji had eye on the queen ..he wanted the most beautiful woman ever had seen to be his so the queen gave up the life to save herself and her dignity... I hope this information is useful ..

I've seen a lot of Bollywood reaction videos but Rick's comment about his previous perception of India and how watching these film trailers has changed it is honestly the most insightful thing I've heard on any reaction video. Padmavat has to be one of the most beautiful movies made by Bollywood........at least as far as cinematography, color ( like u pointed out), direction and sheer artistry is concerned. The antagonist Allauddin Khilji was the actual ruler of Delhi ( about 800 years ago) who ruled over a huge empire ; you can find him very easily in Google ..........the story of Queen Padmavati is forever enshrined in the minds of people as a heroic figure who gladly chose death over dishonor at the hands of her enemy.
This movie is a visual treat, like you mentioned - the sets, the acting, the actors, everything about this movie spells beauty. After 3 Idiots and Pink, you should definitely watch this to experience something very new and yet very Indian. Cheers!
Rajput is most bravist and disciplined type of tribe of India(Specially Hindu)... They are born fighters due to their hard training and martial art...and they strictly follow rules like never kill innocents people children and ladies...One rajput fighter can fight with army but never give up

yes all indian epic movies are either inspired by 300 and lord of the rings (the fight scenes ) but the difference is that these epics were historical events that actually took place were not some scripted stuff
The Director of this film Padmavat is known for picture perfect scenes. Every single movie of his is a Masterpiece. His set arrangements and his insistence for authenticity, be it the clothes the actors wear or their hairstyles, their jewellery or their footwear.
Say there is a war scene with elephants and horses, even the cloth used to put under the saddle will commensurate with the historical period of the war being fought in! He is also a stickler for perfection and that is why every scene in every film of his is a Masterpiece.

It's is a depiction of the queen called paadmavati which faced a lot of critisim by the rajput people of the country.. (Yeah rajput are a community of india) as for the rajput paadmavati is like a goodness.. She in fact was a real heroine. They did johar( fell in fire) so that ranvir(ala us din khilji) couldn't see her face again......
The KhaloDrogo similarity comes from the fact that George RR Martin based KhalDrogo on Turkish horse-borne warriors... and this "bad-ass" villainy guy in the trailer.. is a King of Turkish/Indian heritage.. he fought the Mongol hordes.. and beat them all & ensured Mongols couldn't ravage India. The other noble guy.. is also equally bad-ass & his legends resonate to this day.
