Glad to see that Julian acknowledges that this car is not for everyone despite all its abilities considering its price tag and how it might be a real dog to sell when you want to dispose of it. Unfortunately, the prices of cars here forces us to make more pragmatic choices versus what we might want to really own.

Julian, so true to say that Seat’s marketing is not up there to say the least. These people sells amazing cars that could overlap into VW, Skoda or even some of Audi’s market but they just seem so muted! Don’t be surprised that with so many similar selection of VAG cars in the SG market, I could guess that Seat (or Vertex for the matter) might be put in an awkward position to tone it down a little while the big brothers steal the limelight.

On a side note, it's weird how the cupra leon sportstourer, ateca and formentor all have similar performance figures but the leon is almost a full sec slower for its century sprint.
Perhaps the sales have been slow because its not as bang for buck as the rest of the line up

@@kohsonkoh2955 granted but i didnt expect such a stark difference, almost 1 sec slower. and also considering the weight penalty of 100 to 150kg on the awd system.
VW Group politics perhaps. There are multiple videos on UA-cam showing that it does the century sprint below 5.7 secs. Closer to the 5.0 mark.
Perhaps the same reason why the awd variant isn't available for the hatchback. If so, not many would opt for the golf r except for brand loyalty reasons when the cupra costs lesser.
Its the fwd system of course, put them on a roll, and none will touch the top end of the leon!

Been currently looking at leasing the 245bhp version of this car which is fair bit less expensive. Not sure on the conversion between your currency and GBP but it's around £300 a month to lease.
I would add the Leon logo looks like a Decepticons badge , aka transformers. 😁

Can we really get excited about another new vw group product, when underneath its all the same.
So, how does this stack up to the mk8 GTI? Considering that they're largely similar...doesn't quite make sense that it's priced so closely to the GTI
The cupra is above the normal mk8 gti. It's direct equivalent would be the gti clubsport, which isn't available locally. More like a fwd version of the new golf r.

Cos $200k but no brand recognition and image. Some people dunno how to even pronounce Seat. Imagine u tell your friends or relatives then they say what Sit? Lol! Their old Leon better. The new logo looks cartoonish. I prefer the S logo
The Leon offers a much better interior than the Golf 8. However, the drive and handling loses out.
The next few years will be a great time to have great cars, I fear after 10 years with more electric cars these hot hatches/cars will vanish because it will be much harder to make good designs due the battery.

I do love the skoda cars... have yet to drive any model though.

Sorry - is this 200,000 singapore dollars? That's £108,000...whereas in the UK, this costs £37,000 or 68,000 Singapore dollars
Hi ryanjones55, yes it's around S$200,000. That's because we've got quite a punishing tax structure here to discourage car ownership. Cars are usually 3 - 4 times the retail price compared to other countries.

lol, why buy a S$205k 5.6 sec FWD, when you can buy a 5.6sec RWD Tesla model 3 SR+ for S$113k+60k COE=S$173k with a higher OMV .....
Because EVs doesn’t give us sheer driving pleasure, and many don’t stay in landed properties with convenient charging access
