My favourite German motoring journalist driving one of my favourite cars. Congratulations Thomas - Jay Leno loves this car!. It is only now being appreciated for its advanced design. Rumour has it that if the ‘trick’ headlamps were replaced by Perspex lenses, then the weight saving of the mechanism would have enabled the car to break through 220 miles per hour target. The tyres are now better than the originals - the Pirelli/Bridgestone story is available elsewhere on You Tube and is fascinating (2016). It is quite likely that these cars will be worth 5 million euros in the next 5 years.
This car is so underrated it's completely gorgeous, I've seen this in person and it is very impressive. I feel like both this and the BMW M1 are legends that no one talks about
Well Thank you Thomas and let me congratulate you for having the privilege to fulfill your dream-child even being near/around or as passenger in that magnificent mechanical old school supercar. The exterior body design definitely has a timeless style. I love very much it's modern predecessor sister the handsome Jaguar CX-75 that was also very pretty shame it didn't reach production but hopes die last.. I really hope to be lucky again to make a review just like on this XJ-220 to that CX-75 as well.. what do you think ? keep doing awesome job we love watching you ! (>_
You are not alone Thomas,we are getting older:(( in NFS2 ,I always choosed this car, especially green. Thanks for review of this great car, great machine..
I went to the factory where the XJ220 was being made, I was 12 at the time. I distinctly remember how long/low they were, and how small the interior cabin was (even for a 12 year old). I also remember being told the aluminium body was so soft it dented really easily. Great video!
Really excellent video and detail Thomas, and great to hear your story too - we always knew you liked Jags, and the XK8; now we know where it all started! Lovely to see this XJ220 in its original, well preserved condition. This car maybe part of the 'Jaguar Sports' collection? Great for you to experience - and you were clever to convey on your video - the legendary composed ride for which Jaguar are famous, even on 1950's & 1960's race cars, and on such a 1990's supercar here. We saw glimpses of a 1950's XKSS too. Many thanks Thomas, keep up the good work. Don't change Thomas!
That's not a supercar, that is a timeless piece of art! I remember playing Gran Turismo 2, that was so futuristic at that time, but nowadays, it's still futuristic so many years away from the oponents. Congrats Thomas, very emotional review!!!
About 15 years ago I was fortunate to take a ride in one. I was stunned by the amount of noise it made and the effort needed to shift between gears. I will never forget the faces of the school kids when we drove pass them as they waited for their bus. Owner still has the car, with tiny mileage on it.
They say 'Never meet your heroes'; I get the feeling that along with most of the old supercars, the attraction is more in the sentiment and emotion they create. Small details age cars such as this, but you can see why at the time it looked other-worldly.
The xj220 has to be the classiest looking hypercar of them all. It's really remarkable how modern it still looks in 2018. Honestly, to me if they brought it out now, it wouldnt look aged. Apart from the inside.
You guys are number one! I love all of the new ideas you keep bringing forward. e.g. meet ups, live talks, old iconic car reviews.... I'd love to see a review of an old 2CV!
Fantastic. From the moment I had the game on my Amiga 500 I was in love 😄 followed the story through the days when people couldn’t give them away. Bet those folk are kicking themselves now the values are through the roof. Best looking car of all time in my eyes.
I LOVE those headlights! The exterior is so futuristic! But that interior? It seems like a after thought! But it's got that latter 1980s interior look to it!
thomas met his hero.......hail NFS. Also wish Jaguar made a modern iteration on the lines of this iconic car and is part of the Hypercar brigade of today...
Another awesome job Thomas, with each review you out do yourself from the previous review. Absolutely amazing video! Keep up the great work!! If you ever get to Southern CA. I'd love to meet up and buy you a beer and obviously talk cars, cars, cars and more cars, take care, rock n brother!!
Very crazy to see two of these cars over the years here in Tucson, AZ. One of them was a plum color and the other a burgundy. I remember seeing a kid driving one of these from his high school prom, his dad must have a great deal of trust to let his kid drive a half a million dollar car.
Amazing car. Back in the day I thought it was cool that it had the same wing mirrors as my TVR Chimaera, then realised they were origianlly from a citreon CX!
Beautiful video and vehicle. Like you Thomas, this car inspired me to start sketching cars. The design still looks great today and puts many modern sports cars to shame . This and the diablo are my favourites. Thanks for sharing
Need for Speed II ! Brings back memories. Thomas you should do a review of the Isdera Comendatore 112i, I believe it had a Mercedes V12 engine, and it was a german supercar, I'm sure you could still find one in Germany.
Excellent. Super. Many thanks for the review of the XJ220, also a favourite in my youth from playing video games. I remember seeing an XJ220 in a car show back in 1994. I was very lucky to see it then, as I have not seen another one since. I would also like to see you review the Ferrari F40 (another childhood favourite), Ford Sierra Cosworth & the RUF Yellowbird if you can get the owners to lend you their cars. Cheers.
Nice to see this car getting some respect. Pity Thomas didn't get to drive it himself. Is there some one out there who can lend Autogefuhl one? In Britain that boot is for an umbrella and a raincoat!! Great to see the older classics, to see if they were actually that good. The XJ220 looked great to drive! I don't think Thomas was disappointed.
Thomas:, I remember seeing the Jaguar XJ 220 for the first time in a jaguar car show room in ( sidcup,Kent) just outside London as a young man thinking, WOW how long, low and wide it was, like a spaceship nothing like it at the time, well not an till the McLaren F1 but still amazing car great job buddy 👍
Nice Presentation, Jaguar couldn't justify much as it deserved much more.Rather Unfortunate. But you refreshed those memories. Its such a beautiful car.Bring back with Modern Mechanicals and car Engineering , Jaguar can make money.Anyway I think space is to carry Birthday / anniversary Cake well may be.
As a teen I had this and the f1 large model on my bedroom windowsill. They was so so good. The last of the old school cars before regs come in and killed them. It toolk many years for these (and the porsche) to be bettered.
I had a picture of this car above my bed when I was a kid. Not because it was pretty (I didn't think it is as pretty as other supercars at the time, the grill reminds me of a whale shark with its mouth closed), but because it looks like its only desire is to go fast! This thing would have been a BEAST with a V12!
My favourite German motoring journalist driving one of my favourite cars. Congratulations Thomas - Jay Leno loves this car!. It is only now being appreciated for its advanced design. glad you ve tuned in =)
This car is so underrated it's completely gorgeous, I've seen this in person and it is very impressive. I feel like both this and the BMW M1 are legends that no one talks about
It is fastest car in 90's BMW M1 doesn't has the impression that the xj220 has
My favourite: The unfolding of the headlights!
NFS II , introduced me to cars as well. Particularly the McLaren F1 and the Ferrari F50.
Well Thank you Thomas and let me congratulate you for having the privilege to fulfill your dream-child even being near/around or as passenger in that magnificent mechanical old school supercar. Thanks for review of this great car, great machine..
damn, that takes me back !
miss those days!
We are getting older, indeed.... LONG LIVE NFSII and NFSIIse!
Loved choosing XJ220 and Com112i
"What about the ESP, can you turn it off?"
"There isn't any ESP!" 😂
Brilliant presentation of a timeless classic. Thanks Thomas for bringing back this beauty. Much appreciated!
you re welcome!
The video clip of XJ-220 in NFS2 is part of my 3-year old memory
I still can't get enough of this car.... It's a Group C car for the public roads... Just absolutely stunning!
This, the nsx and the F40 were on my bedroom wall. Aged well (on the outside)
:)
Jerry Looney great taste
I had so many F40 models in all sizes and paintings as a kid. Nowadays I think the car is horribly barren. Worth 1.5 million though. xD
Jerry Looney also this car was a part of need for speed series.
Oh sorry. It was mentioned by Thomas
I went to the factory where the XJ220 was being made, I was 12 at the time. I distinctly remember how long/low they were, and how small the interior cabin was (even for a 12 year old). I also remember being told the aluminium body was so soft it dented really easily.

yeah you could hear the XKSS sound in the end =)
My favourite Jaguar of all time. Jaguar engineer's best job ever.

appreciated!
02:47 say whaat?! Thats like the coolest shit ever man!! I had to rewind 3 times to believe what i thought I saw
What a rare car! Thank for review! Mechanical transmission.... pure driving feelings even BMW skip it nowadays.
Really nice to see you reviewing classic cars Thomas. Made my day. Thank you!
Stick to us :)
For me too, this was one of the cars that made me love cars. Still love it. I deeply thank you for this video.
appreciated!
I was introduced to the XJ220 in NFSII SE as well. Was one of my favourites in the game. I just loved the way it looked. I still do.
About 15 years ago I was fortunate to take a ride in one. I was stunned by the amount of noise it made and the effort needed to shift between gears. I will never forget the faces of the school kids when we drove pass them as they waited for their bus. Owner still has the car, with tiny mileage on it.
nice :)
It's 2020 and this Jaguar still looks like they're best one yet!
I'm so happy for you Thomas, you looked like you had the time of your life!
+Floris Heinen 👍👍🏁🏁
Nice idea to have a classic car in your review style, hope we will have more of these.
glad u enjoyed!
Ah, Thomas . . you devil . . I'm really starting to be really envious of your job. Btw, it was also one of the "girls" in "Gone in 60 Seconds".
=)
Nice work. Love your passion and enthusiasm for cars. XJ220 still looks beautiful and amazing.

The most beautiful car ever built.

Thanks for this great insight to such a beautiful vehicle. More classic car reviews Thomas please.
When we get the chance, for-sure!

Love the rover parts bin switch gear and the lights! Definetly made on a bit of a budget but no denying it's become a timeless design classic now.
and the Citroën CX mirrors :D
The trunk is for a credit card and a Motorola DynaTAC 8000X. Come on Thomas!! ;)
Wonderful video, great camera work!
appreciated!

Fantastic. From the moment I had the game on my Amiga 500 I was in love 😄 followed the story through the days when people couldn’t give them away. Bet those folk are kicking themselves now the values are through the roof. Best looking car of all time in my eyes.
=)
On a Amiga Format magazine I got a playable demo of Jaguar XJ220. After I played this demo I also loved this car
Man I used to love this car as a kid, the exterior still looks amazing but looking inside just made me feel old!
Yeah thought so too :)
I remember being at the Earls Court Motorshow launch for this Jag, how time flies...
amazing car, amazing review Thomas!!! you are the best car presenter so far on UA-cam:) keep up such a high quality content :)!
love to hear that, spread the word for us !
Great review, you should continue to feature older cars from time to time on the Autogefuhl channel!

still the best looking super-car ever produced.

That jaguar xj220 was cool!
Fantastic car! The car is still a great looking car after 25 years!
It looks better than new supercars of today! 😀👍😃👌🚘
Amazing car.
Back in the day I thought it was cool that it had the same wing mirrors as my TVR Chimaera, then realised they were origianlly from a citreon CX!
This is most beautiful car ever built, Though my heart is McLaren F1 but this car also takes a dominating place in my heart.

Beautiful video and vehicle. Like you Thomas, this car inspired me to start sketching cars. The design still looks great today and puts many modern sports cars to shame . This and the diablo are my favourites. Thanks for sharing
nice story!
Enough space for gopro and camera accesories, bottle of beverage, and a couple of sandwiches and snacks. Perfect weekend car.
That headlight opening mechanism
+Christopher O'Grady ✌️🏁
The pin up car of my childhood... still looks fresh on the exterior - did that interior ever look good though?
yeah thats what I thought, too - to all three of your remarks :)
More classic car reviews like this please!
Need for Speed II ! Brings back memories. Thomas you should do a review of the Isdera Comendatore 112i, I believe it had a Mercedes V12 engine, and it was a german supercar, I'm sure you could still find one in Germany.

My dream car when I was a young boy.

Excellent car!
Please do the EB110SS!
Jaguar Land rover and Ford all have had a lot of icons in their history.
Retro beauty
I remember my uncle bought me a scale model of this car for Christmas once and I accidentally stood on it and now it only has 3 wheels.
It's a sleek beautiful aerodinamic design no doubt it's amazing and a legend now but can still take a coat in the boot 😁
As a teen I had this and the f1 large model on my bedroom windowsill. They was so so good. The last of the old school cars before regs come in and killed them. It toolk many years for these (and the porsche) to be bettered.
Nice review, please do more reviews like that, if you can obviously.
I also grow up playing NFS II, but my favorite car was the Italdesign Cala.
:)
AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

More classic cars Thomas!
thanks for suffering in the raind for us all
thanks for the support! =)
Of course. The legendary from NFS 2
This car is part of automobile history. A classic nonetheless.. Maybe it opens a new chapter. "Autogefuhl Specials" ?? :)
