Edit: also it’s truth, you could use “por/hasta el techo” and people would understand what you mean, but its not an expression I heard or read often in Spanish.

@40:00 The act of stacking plates isn't classy, but it's more convenient than the server having to interrupt conversations and ask each individual if they're done and having to collect plates in front of them. You let the server know what's done and can be removed and who's still eating.

I feel crazy cause when I was serving I hated people stacking their plates! Half of the time the stacks weren't stable and I'd end up carrying less to the kitchen than if I'd just pre-bussed the table myself. Or they would stack the glasses, they stick together, now I have to spend ten minutes and risk smashing the glasses to un-stick them. Can't get mad cause they're just trying to help, but deep down it drove me nuts lol.
