Exploring Lake Mead Abandoned Structure

  • In this episode we explore an abandoned structure that's been underwater for over 50 years.
    Located in Lake Mead just off Boulder Beach, this structure is about 15 feet deep and 110 feet across, and was used during the construction of Hoover Dam in the 1930's.
    Clarified water was piped 130 feet below, to wash the gravel used to make concrete for Hoover Dam.
    Due to drought and receding water levels in Lake Mead, you can kayak to the islands and walk up to the old Clarifier Tank.

    Should try taking a metal detector next time. Could be cool.
