Funny you said that about Nicolai, it's one of those brands I feel I'm 'supposed' to love, but I really don't enjoy wearing them. Bang on about NY Intense, old fashioned in a bad way is exactly how I feel about it.
Lorenzo on the other hand :)
I like the Quartana, but I can see where you're coming from there.
Maitre Gantier is actually the next line I want to explore. I ordered huge pile of samples, and if you like old school done very well, you'll like the house. I'd generalize it as mid century vintage vs turn of the century.

    No... MALLE?!
Excellent video. So much of what I sample is meh, especially among the "nouveau niche" tier... I bought a 7.5ml of Ambre Nuit this year too and thought it was nuclear apple pie but also way more "ambergris" than "amber." I never understood the love for Tauer either... happy new year in NYC!

Great idea for a video! I enjoyed your year in purchases as well.
I got samples of Nicolai's Caravanserail and NY Intense and disliked both. The first smells not of roasted coffee but like acrid burned coffee at the bottom of a pot you forgot to shut off! And NY Intense is too old fashioned for me as well. But, but, but Riviera Verbena is a whole different story. It is truly full of life. It goes on very quiet, but after 5 minutes, I feel like the jolly green giant with vines sprouting all over me from the herbs and green notes. That was a major love.
Also, Amouage Search is terribly underrated. It was love at first sniff for me, but then it actually grew on me even more after I bought it. It's super long lasting and the way he carries the citrus feel throughout the life of the perfume with the frankincense is impressive.
Other disappointments were the Les Indemodables sample set (liked far fewer than I expected) and a handful of Nobile 1942s that Osme in Miami gave me. My Nobile experience was like some of yours where I thought, there must be something wrong with me, because they all smelled atrocious to my nose.
Very intrigued by Fuego Futura. I haven't heard anyone mention it, but now I'm going to seek it out.

Flat is the exact word I would use to describe Nicolai perfumes I’ve tried 💯 perfect description.

Sigur ros- I got all excited when you started talking about it. But dang, synthetic is a nyet for me…..this video concept of a year of samples is a good one.

One of my favorite bands! I wouldn’t want to discourage anyone from at least trying them, they smell fairly interesting. Not synthetic in the modern designer cloying way, but more like CDG where these accords don’t really exist in nature.

Nothing wrong with your nose….we like what we like and that’s it, no experience can be the same for each of us. I also just can’t connect with the Tauers, as for the Nicolai’s true some of them are nice, just nice. I’d also say the same for Chanel and Celine, to me they are easy likes.
It’s worth returning later to some samples as they may connect, it sometimes works that way with me. NY intense has had a push via LT , not the best way to pick up fragrances as you’ve found with that Adorem. Sure it connected with that reviewer but doesn’t mean it will with all of us, to me it’s just ok.
Eris we’re the same to me, very close to the skin apart from Ma Bête, but I can get similar to MB elsewhere.
Nicolai’s patchouli intense took a while to connect, give it time and use sparingly and then you’ll find it unfolds. Vie de chateau is a summer beauty.
Great to show your samples journey, as always it’s hit and miss. I’m enjoying the Rusak samples atm.
    All the best.

Thanks for watching! Yea the Nicolai Patchouli is interesting, I’ll have to give it and New York another try down the road. Never tried Rusak but I’ve heard good things!

Great video! Did you get to try Ambra with your Villoresi set ? Such a good ambergris.

I did like it, will need to revisit! I remember it being comparable to Profumum Ambre Aurea but quieter and easier to wear. I do prefer ambergris amber over the sweet vanilla type.

    Lot of samples that😂
I am curious about Ostens but the pricing is not great in the EU

Try Selfridges! Or maybe it’s only cheap for us exempt of EU taxes…

I am considering buying Davidoff Cool Water EDP. What your thoughts on this fragrance? Is it worth buying this $36 perfume?

So its not just me that noticed how weak Ambre Nuit is, quite a shame.
