    • @dangallagher6176
      @dangallagher6176 6 місяців тому

Exactly. You can influence people's ability to control themselves so much that you cannot possibly place all the responsibility on them. Inject a hunger hormone and most people will overeat. Move grocery stores far away and suddenly most people will eat fast food. Don't educate people on nutrition and they will fall for fat loss scams. All these things and more are obviously outside of our control, yet so many people still hold the individual fully accountable, it makes no sense.

Or, to quote the great George Hackenschmidt:
“ It may be suggested that there is no reason why a
man should go to the trouble and exertion of struggling with heavy weights, since there is no crying necessity for that particular man to acquire any phenomenal degree of strength.
To that I would reply by asking why a man should
    desire to be weak?
He was endowed by his Creator with muscles and
sinews which would enable him to cope successfully with such physical feats as he might be faced with during his earthly career.”

At least in America, you are to a large extent encouraged towards having an unhealthy lifestyle. I empathize with fat people because I was there once and I know how easy it is to fall into those traps.

the funniest thing about the Fresh and fit guy, is that at some point towards the end, someone says his ways of approaching this subject aren't going to work for everyone,
and his response is: "You need to have winners and losers, those people are the losers".
So basically it's even worse than the fact that he's just a mirror. When presented with the fact that having a bit more empathy could help more people lose weight, he just says those people shouldn't lose weight, so that they can be the losers to contrast the winners which are the people who can lose weight.
He literally admits that he doesn't want to help people. He just wants to help some people, and then he wants to make others feel bad.

To your point about individualistic culture and the west being more obese:
    It's not really that true.
East Asian countries, in particular Japan and Korea are the exception with much lower obesity rates now and historically, although the trend is also toward more and more obesity in those countries.
However other countries do not seem to fit that pattern at all.
You mentioned Mexico. Mexico has a higher rate of obesity than almost all European countries (with only the UK, Hungary and Czech Republik being higher but they're almost at the same level).
Middle Eastern and North African countries have obesity rates just as high or sometimes even higher than western countries and that's despite being significantly poorer.
The only countries that are not affected by obesity to the same degree are East Asian countries (Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, Vietnam) and really poor countries (India, much of Africa, Indonesia).
It also remain to be seen whether all the East Asians stay at lower obesity rates, China is already ahead of Japan and Korea, despite being poorer and only having developed economically in recent decades.
The US stands out as being particularly obese compared to it's peers (the obesity rate is ~10 points higher than in European countries) and the other western English speaking countries (Canada, UK Australia NZ) are also somewhat more obese than the non-English speaking ones, so I do think culture has an impact but it's not as obvious as you make it out to be and most cultures seem to be impacted similarly by obesity.
Also another factor to point out for a country like Japan with a culture that puts a lot of emphasis on conformity not just obese people stand out. If you lift you'll also stand out more and I would guess that "swole shaming" is also more prevalent.
Like I watched a video recently by an American living in Japan talking about Japanese (gym) culture. The video is called "Why Gyms in Japan SUCK, and What I Recommend You Do" maybe check it out. Basically in Japan there are way fewer people interested in getting big and strong and most people rather want to be somewhat fit, healthy and skinny.
So when you say you'd rather have a society with more suffering but more excellence I think the East Asian way is, at least as it relates to lifting and Bodybuilding not doing that. It's rather giving you the choice of either having a society where everyone is skinny or having a society of obese people where some break out of the mold and get jacked. In that sense the individualistic culture seems to be more aligned with what you say you prefer. Of course I'm overgeneralizing but I think it's somewhat accurate.

7:40 you are completely right, this type of attitude is usually held by people who just maxed out in one area of their life and become elitist about it, but to a lot of people fitness may not be the most important, and they might focus more on things like education. Acting so superior just because you are skinny compared to someone else and lacking empathy for where they are at in life is stupid. Maybe someone is far more intelligent in mathematics than Myron from F&F because they spent more time learning than him, that wouldn't make it okay for them to degrade him for it though, as he is doing to overweight people. btw gaza has a high rate of obesity and is one of the fatest places in the ME, so the point Myron was making is even less coherent

For me personally I think the answer is somewhere in the middle. I think everyone can agree for example that most people who are addicted to heroin don't have the willpower to quit it on their own. Not to mention their whole social environment revolves around it. If say quitting heroin takes 100 points of will power most people have around 30-40. And I would say this is generally socially accepted because we have rehab centers and such which help people do something they cant do on their own. Does everyone have the ability to quit heroin on their own? Yes but not even close to everyone will. Now if youre smart you might be thinking "heroin isnt the same as being fat" and you would be correct. Heroin is far more addictive but I used it an an example to prove my point. Society as it is right now makes being fat too easy. Theres way too much bad food around and not the necessary education on exercise and diet for people to adopt healthy lifestyle choices from the start. I think this proven by the fact that there are so many fat people. Nobody wants to be fat, yet there are fat people. This to me atleast demonstrates that most people who fall into that hole don't necessarily have what it takes to get out of it. So I think society is pushing people to get fat and some people cant resist it and get fat and then theyre unable to get out it. And thats not to say you cant be healthy and lose weight on your own, of course you can, but to me just telling every fat person to lose weight doesnt seem to address the full scope of the problem.

The harsh reality of addiction is that you can't help an addict before they themselves are ready to be helped. Facts doesn't matter to them, it is all about a realization that has to come from within that creates the willingness to change. It sucks, but that is how it is. Most people want the best for others around them, but sometimes it is just best to let the addict find their own way. Food addiction is hard, because you will need to consume food for the rest of your life, not the same with heroin or other illicit substances. The success rate for people to permanently lose weight and keep it off is very small. It is a commitment for the rest of their life.

@@EEDIR-DKVery true. My best friend has struggled with his weight his entire life. He’s talked to me a handful of times about what to do… and that “this time will be different because I’m getting married… or this time will be different because I want to be able to play with my kids…” but it never changes.
It’s the same for most everyone… and I’ve told him that… you have to find that catalyst to make you want to have change. Doesn’t matter how many tools I give you or how small of step by step I break it down.
It’s not like you even have to eat “health food” either. You can still eat spaghetti and meatballs as long as you understand portions or not buying the worst of the worst (pasta sauces have up to a 70 calorie per serving swing depending on which you buy). You can still eat cheeseburgers as long as you go with leaner ground beef (might not be AS good, but you can’t even tell the difference after awhile… and 93/7 which is the most common of the leaner but you can get leaner that’s got a better profile is is 170cal/23 protein which is closer to superfood ratios while 80/20 is 280cal/19 protein which sneaks close to being labeled as “not a good source of protein). Just think about that… with 93/7 you could eat a whole pound of it in one sitting with a bun and some cheese and be lower calories than most premium burgers at a restaurant/fast food while getting to 100 grams of protein (I don’t suggest it… but it shows how such a little difference matters so much).
People just have this stereotyped idea of you need to eat all sorts of veggies and chicken… and it’s just not true. However, that’s what turns them off.

If there was any chance the fat guys left the debate with a healthier mindset, fresh and fit absolutely ruined it lol.

Well, at least they understood more stuff than before they started the debate. M0ron doesn't know how to solve the problem he himself complains so much about, but all the fat guys came out understanding more.

More reaction videos!! Unlike many other content creators you provided a level of background that added to the conversation. Your knowledge can be used to further discussion and it would be great to see you expand more on other topics. Thanks for the good opinions n' great takes!

I love your constant emphasis on nuance. It seems to counter human nature, and therefore it is also anti-pragmatic. It's an age old principle of propaganda. The nuanced and reasonable will be trampled by the fiercely emotional and radical; so it is a question of the contextual interest - do you wish to develop ideas and arrive at a "truthful" conception, or do you want to implement changes in a society? I think the distinction between the two is crucial for one who wishes to make his ideas impactful.

That video was awesome. Didn't click at first because "react videos" are not what I like to watch usually, but your points and comments were so good I sat through the entire thing, didn't even realize an hour had passed. Plus de vidéos de ce genre seront les bienvenues !

Nobody will read this but the last time I have a memory of not being fat, I was playing basketball in middle school at a local church. I did something to piss off my best friend who was fairly popular growing up and he beat me up. I decided to never get beat up again and started eating and lifting, but having no idea how to lift and no gym in my life or even weights i never developed any decent physique.
After high school (i was technically home schooled after middle school)I was mostly petted by the people around me, despite having a BMI of 36 nobody around me told me i had a weight problem. I think having big shoulders and muscular arms helped hide how obese i really was.
Im 28 now and i hope its not too late to chamge my life and become aesthetic but I've honestly never heard of someone in my situation much less at my age make a change that big but im hoping one of your programs and a gym membership will help.
Being on 1,500 calories a day and working out 4x a week sucks but im making the choice. That guy in the green jacket crushed it. Very inspirational.

Don't be ridiculous. It doesn't matter how fat you are you're literally only 28. I don't know how much you weigh but i've seen plenty of people who are up to 500 pounds and have made amazing transformations. Do your absolute best and I know you can get jacked as fuck

You don’t need to be on 1500 cal per day. Be more moderate with your deficit. At that rate you’re probably going to crash and burn.

I don't think there is any reason you can't change yourself. I personally started my (serious) fitness journey at around 25. Way behind a lot of people and I don't look anything like I did then and that's been several years ago. I believe in you man, if my super skinny @ss can turn semi jacked I'm sure you can do as well if not best me in this pursuit. Seriously if I had the ability to show you my previous self it was hilariously skinny and underdeveloped

I like watching reaction videos because I like listening to different perspectives and opinions and often times you find value and good insight. I really like your take, very eloquent and well thought out. You seem to have a very broad and diverse view and understanding of the world, lots of wisdom. I hope you do more reaction videos because it’s also good you called out Fit’s insufferably red pill mentality. People need to listen to this and stay away from extreme view points. Wish you the best!

I love how the nuances you add to the discussion isnt radical fence sitting. I hate when these discussions are talked about and people recite sentiments of centrism with rhetoric like "both sides are equally bad blah blah" without even having the arguments to justify such claims.

    • @professorartlifts1268

@ambiguoususername2966 it sounds like an oxymoron until you realize people do it all the time in an effort to appear "even-handed" or "fair "out of sheer cowardice to select a consistent position. People do this on a multitude of topics because if you stand for nothing, you don't have to justify anything that may compromise how others perceive you.
