they honestly kinda did those last two girls dirty making them sing with each other like that, no one else had to share their performance or compete with someone singing the exact same song
Astrid Holly there another separate competition that determines who go to jimmy and both of them won their category in the region which they performed at their school. So both of them did same role but at different schools and I believe same song too in regional one
@@patriciajune5 I'm guessing they're aware of how it works... I think what they commenting on is the 1:1 battle style they sang in, instead of letting them get the moment to sing alone, like every other nominee. since there were only 2, they could've been put in separate groups. Singing against another competitor could've went disastrous, luckily it didn't for them but the potential is there. They've done this in previous years but the way this duet was done made it more of a note for note competition.
Serious question here where do these schools get the budget for these costumes?? Back when I was in school we dyed an old prom dress from a garage sale for Cinderella and the budgets have only been slashed since then. It’s like professional costuming!
Jessica Imler these are probably schools that pour a decent amount of money into their theatre programs, but the ensemble costumes almost certainly don’t look like these
It takes a village to put on a show. When I've seen great costuming I've seen amazingly talented and motivated Costume Moms who create adapt modify fit and snazz up costumes out of basic raw materials.
Chris Knight Chris Knight Chris Knight yea I’m going to take a stab that the Dolly, kiss Me Kate and the witch costumes are professional costumes and not made from basic raw materials by stage moms the wigs alone on some of these kids (not specifically on this video) are top quality
@@jessicatucker8464 I think some of these schools are performing arts schools. Theater is their thing, so they probably have a whole costume and set department. Maybe they have their fashion design students work on the costumes ( that's how they did it in my highschool)
I go to the school Kristen Brock graduated from (the witch, into the woods)... we are a performing arts school so all our money pours into our performances
I’m just saying, but Lilli Vanessi & the Amalia’s & Dolly Gallagher Levi were incredible!! Also, the Witch & the Baker’s Wife. And that Éponine’s “pretending” has me shook.
These high school costume departments have an insane budget. Granted, I went to a small school, but we were lucky if the leads had more than one new costume every year; most stuff just got re-purposed.
Skyler (Kiss Me, Kate) is working with me rn at a summer stock gig and all I can say is wtf she is so talented and so humble and one of the sweetest girls ever I had NO idea that was her
This Katherine/Lilli made me laugh so hard and now I really want my high school to do Kiss Me, Kate. Also, I loved Dolly, Éponine, and both Amalia’s voices!!!
I feel bad for Maggie kuntz she always gives such a memorable performance and has so much personality (she is dolly here and she was in the 2017 one too)
For those wandering about the costumes, it is very likely the most elaborate ones were rented from a professional production. If you look closely you can see the red dress is big on the girl playing Dolly. The bodice on a dress from that time period wouldn't have been that loose on a woman's torso.
I participated in Dream Awards (our pre-Jimmies show) and I remember seeing Skyler performing. She did just as funny of a job as I remember that night, even though this performance she didn't use props. You killed it girl!
A Chorus Line purist here What I Did For Love isn't Cassie's solo in the stage version. It's Diana's. They changed it to Cassie for the Richard Attenborough film version and got considerable flack for doing so. Perhaps this is how some revised script her high school rented assigned the solo but there are substantial parts of The Music And The Mirror which could've and should've been used for this actress.
gramps2matt I go to school with her, What I did for love was not Cassie’s solo in our show. There was another Cassie in the first medley and she sang Music and the Mirror so maybe they didn’t want to have the same song be sung again. I don’t know for sure though.
That's an interesting theory and perhaps it was a better fit musically with the other songs. But I do know that repeating solos hasn't been an issue with the Jimmy Awards medleys in the past. I saw the other medley too and that Cassie did very well. Paige appears to have the same vocal range so I think she would have done well with it.
Teah (Eponine) was so freaking good! AND she's also from Connecticut! I was over here thinking that there were no theatre awards in Connecticut that could lead up to the Jimmy's etc, but here is Teah snatching my mfing wig.
Love them all, but why dress as Cassie if you don't sing The Music and The Mirror? I know What I Did for Love is an ensemble song, but it was started by Diana in the musical, so if you want to sing the song, why not dress as Diana?
I will be attending the same high school as her, and in that version it was not Cassie’s song, and its unclear as to why at the Jimmy’s she did ‘What I Did For Love’ vrs ‘Music and the Mirror’ but the other Cassie in the first Medley did sing ‘Music and the Mirror’ so maybe it had to do with not repeating the song again?
Why is Cassie considered the leading actress for A Chorus Line? The whole point of the show is to show that even background characters can be complex and interesting without being a lead. By having Cassie as the leading actress, you take away that everyone is interesting in their own right. It’s giving someone more of a spotlight. No one in A Chorus Line is supposed to be more important than anyone else. Except for Zach, but he’s not supposed to be someone who was from the background. Everyone in A Chorus Line has their time to shine. From Moralice to Connie, from Paul to Richie, they are all supposed to be equal. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk. Edit: it’s been a year, and I still don’t understand why they gave Cassie the song sung by Moralice predominantly. Cassie has Music and the Mirror, What I Did For Love was Moralice’s song and only had small ensemble part to it
they honestly kinda did those last two girls dirty making them sing with each other like that, no one else had to share their performance or compete with someone singing the exact same song
Throwback to the year they had 5 Millies and they put them all in the same medley
Astrid Holly there another separate competition that determines who go to jimmy and both of them won their category in the region which they performed at their school. So both of them did same role but at different schools and I believe same song too in regional one

Talia Mayo Thank you!
Totally agree!!
Okay but that Baker’s Wife was TOO good-easily the best actor.
She’s from my town! She’s also an amazing dancer. I remember being in a show with her and she was in the chorus. It’s amazing how much she has grown.

Maggie Kuntz, you were robbed of a finalist spot. Absolute star.
The Katherine from Kiss Me Kate is an incredible actor and the Amalia on the left sounds just like Laura Osnes
I’m just saying, but Lilli Vanessi & the Amalia’s & Dolly Gallagher Levi were incredible!! Also, the Witch & the Baker’s Wife. And that Éponine’s “pretending” has me shook.
Eponine, consider this wig yours. YOU SNATCHED IT!
HeyTey1245 really? That was the most underwhelming performance for me
Thx so much❤️

These women were so good!! I really loved these costumes too! Dolly's was lovely!

Hello Dolly was the best in the medley!!

The
Dolly is amazing wow
I’m definitely a bigger fan of this medley than the other for females this year
Those Amalia's were awesome!!!
Both the amalias have EXCELLENT voices
I feel bad for Maggie kuntz she always gives such a memorable performance and has so much personality (she is dolly here and she was in the 2017 one too)
Go Emily! You were an amazing Toffee!
I get serious Grace McLean vibes from the Dolly Levi
Zoey Davis true
Toffee was amazing!
THE AMALIAS

The costumes in this group though 👏👏👏👏👏

She should’ve just sang The Music and the Mirror. I don’t get it either. Why let her sing Diana’s song?

Ione Berken-Normally they have no issue with having two girls do the same song. Weird haha.
fuck yes dolly levi
Where do they get all the great costumes?
AMEN PAIGE, A-FREAKIN MEN (cough Cassie)
Two roles on stage played by emily blunt haha
Why did they get the Cassie to sing Diana's solo?...
