This is what I've been trying to do. I can't stand to see my camera rig just sitting there. I've invested so much into it, I feel it's a waste not to do something with every moment I can.
feel the same way. I've been fighting with the idea of selling everything, but videography is just something I feel I have to do. So I just need to go out and film something
@@d.edwardsfreelanceeditorvi4212 I feel it man, I always feel like that but I found that if I just got out and start filming anything, the ideas and the creativity starts flowing and then I’ve got a bunch of motivation and ideas to keep me going! Just hang in there and start filming!!
Yoo fr i fully rigged my s5 up with everything its so vomfortable to hold and beautiful to look at but i dont have anything worthwhile shooting. And when i goto film sets they always use arris or reds 🙁
100% spot on with comments. I often feel like my videos are flopping and nobody wants to watch my content but nice comments make a huge difference and gives a huge motivational boost for the next video
That's a great tip about shooting sequences! Lots of people talk about trying to re-create shots that have inspired you, but I've never heard anyone suggest shooting 3 or 4 shots in a row to cut together. I think it's almost believed that this is the editor's job, not the cinematographer's. But doing this will help with understanding continuity, motivated shots and angles, relationship between frames, the value of coverage, and so much more. At the same time, it's so much less daunting than attempting to shoot an entire short. Thanks for this, I'll definitely try it out!
Damn man I couldn't have said it better!! You're absolutely right, all of those are extremely important!! Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!!
Being a great storyteller gives you immense power and the ability to essentially perform magic. Please don't forget, cinematography is only a component. Half of the storytelling ability is also sound. Using a leitmotif draws strong emotions and associations subconsciously from the viewer. So when you are watching something pay attention to what you hear as well. I wish I was a master of this but love trying. GREAT VIDEO!
Love this response mate. Storytelling and writing and that feeling you are speaking of is a mixture of pacing, sound, color, look - but it doesn't necessarily get "better" just because the cinematography is incredible high quality - sometimes feelings can be created with totally raw footage and great narration + editing. Keep it up, I am too!!
Great idea, I took my camera out yesterday and shot with it for several hours. I learned a lot about our relationship. I learned that it needs constant attention and time. The lens is difficult to focus, the tripod has a wiggle in it, it’s very difficult to focus the camera while looking at the monitor in the sun. These aren’t things that we learned at home sitting at our desk.
I subscribed right after you encouraged others to do good unto others. My brother, I'm not even religious but your energy is needed and well received. I wish you good fortune.
i like watching others work and take notes of what i like and try emulate them. i also like reviewing my own videos and see what mistakes i make and what i should improve on. one time, i went out to take photos after a long time and forget to check and set my camera. that's what happens when you don't practice using your equipment. now if i got ideas or wanted to try something, I'll take out my camera and try it out at home. you don't have to go places to practice. now, i don't even care which camera people use for their videos as I'm more interested in their framing, technique, editing, etc. You guys should check out and support so many talented videographer or cinematographer on youtube. Some of them are world class level!
Just subbed 1.15 into the video as you are discussing cinematography and talked about your mental health right away. I appreciate the openness and genuineness of people especially on this platform.
Thank you for this presentation. I'm sure every child had heard that statement throughout our early life. But it isn't until we try and not succeed that we understand the concept of "Practice and more Practice will make improvements. " keep moving forward .
Going out to create is such a practical and rewarding thing to do. Sometimes we get so caught up in paid work , we forget to explore new things and sharpening your skills. I definitely am charged up to learn and put these ideas into play.
For some reason the UA-cam algorithm is showing me a lot of filmmakers that I don’t already know about and I’m glad I found this video and you’re channel
Funny and straight to the point at the same time, with only 1k subscribers? The quality of your videos is a lot higher than many much more popular filmmaking channels. Awesome job dude, subscribed.
I started subscribing to you after watching this video , the way you explain and bring awareness to how thoughts I’ve had. YOU ROCK , I can’t wait to see what’s else I could learn from you man
This is brilliant. Everything about the way you're sharing your knowledge and the shots that you've actually put together is so inspiring. It really does make me want to push myself to go out there more and actually practice and learn through it even if I'm by myself! Thank you so much for making this video. I really appreciate your effort.
I used to be real big into cinematography, I even went to school for it... I am trying to pick it back up again, but I don't feel like I have the skills, the equipment, or anything to shoot anymore... I feel embarrassed when I start walking around with a camera out in public. That being said: this video helped me get a little motivation to just go do it anyway! Thanks man!
Man I can absolutely relate!! I think no matter what we all have those feelings and thoughts in the back of our heads but I normally just try to focus more on making stuff that I like and think looks good! And I absolutely still feel super embarrassed and awkward when I’m running around with a camera out in public lol but if you start today then tomorrow you’ll be a little bit better! I’ve got faith in you man! And thank you very much for the comment!! ✌️👍
This was randomly recommended to me, never considered practicing cinematography but I'll definitely be doing this from now on! Loved the video 🔥Gained a sub!
I followed this practice concept here even before I saw this video! And I re-filmed an entire Alan Walker - Faded! 90% original locations. I think I got a pretty good result!
Oh wow, this is gold! Truly! Your shots are absolutely amazing and what I took away from this video the most is the joy you seem to have and excitement of learning this skill. I started filming random videos at the beginning of this year. My intentions were to film what I do creatively in a day and the content was supposed to be about what I do, not the cinematography itself. I have completely fallen in love with the art of creating visual stories though!! I found a passion I didn't know I had!! I'm watching hours on end of footage to try and get better. Then I get recommended this video simply telling me that I should try shots that I like, and practise. Ha, I'm mindblown hahaha so simple yet immensely helpful. I honestly thought you had thousands of subs when I clicked on this video. You surely do deserve them and will get them! Thanks for this awesome video!
I just started praticing Cinematic shots and this video comes right in time. Great content and delivering. I'm pretty supprise when I see subscribe number. You deserve more than that. Keep it up man.
Wow man, when I heard you talking about mental health I was thinking about myself, but like everything, this is just a temporary crisis so keep up the good work, like your content and you just got another sub😉
Beautiful footage and great advice - love your down to earth delivery and glad the algorithm sent your channel my way! Well done for looking after your mental health too - that has to come first, it's clear you put a lot of work into these vids and I'm excited to see what comes next, whenever you're ready to share that. Just came across your channel bro. Love this video! Just like anything, cinematography is a skill and requires constant practice. The best part is you dont need a gig to practice! Thats what stuff like this and passion rpojects are for.
Thanks! Good tips, especially with the sequence stuff. You don´t need to do anything important or serious. Maybe just me making tea + some emotion etc.
