The Swiss Art of Papercutting
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 вер 2019
- It’s amazing what Anne Rosat can do with a pair of scissors. This 83-year-old artist has been depicting life in the Swiss Alps through the folk art known as papercutting for 50 years. Using scissors, paper, tweezers and glue, she crafts intricate, colorful and layered works that are uniquely hers. Rosat invites us into her home in Les Moulins, Switzerland, to show us how she tells beautiful stories with paper.

She is quiet famous in Switzerland. I remember watching a movie about her art when I was in school. Her daugther is also doing te same kind of art near Lausanne. Really Amazing
Mmaxadidas i hope it becomes a tradition!
@I am probably wrong you from switzerland?
Maybe she is only famous in the french speaking part of Switzerland, depending where you are from in switzerland you may not know her.
So mostly Genève, Vaud and Valais 😁
Valaisan here ! No I didn’t hear of her until watching this video
Ok 😉
Probably famous in Vaud then 😁😁
jesus, i couldnt even cut coupons in straight lines. amazing woman!
@@flotealy *Swiss power, or *Francophone power, but definitely not "French power", cher compatriote. :p
Kat you know self deprecation isn’t a form of a compliment. You should just say that’s she’s amazing without the “I’m so much worse I can’t do this”.
Ikr? They even give us dotted/straight bold lines lol...
@@antoniax2102 Actually, being a biomedical engineer and neuroscientist I can tell you that self-deprecation usually indicates a strong will to improve oneself and advance in one's skill. Self-deprecation functions as a channel for a process called Long Term Potentiation which is the main component of long term memory formation. This process gets enhanced when it is reused often so even self-deprecating events can bring about improvement due to the topic being at hand in the virtual mindscape. Being critical about conscious acts and analyzing other people's methodology is a driving factor in ultimate mental prowess.
Niels sure, buddy, whatever you say.
I can't believe Genesis inspired that old lady to do these pieces of art.
It's so heartwarming.
Haha
Loll! Yeah.....
You fool obviously Genesis was the one that actually did the paper cuts, then the old lady copied Genesis.
Someone's about to get wooooshed
@@dissidia7737 I'm glad noone got whooshed so far
She's aged so well!
She looks 60 years old
Like a fine wine😊
10/10 would smash
They have a SWISS utility knife-scissor for a reason. What a fantastic art piece!

Its the shitty reddit text to speech channels that create these normies who spam woosh everywhere
lmao the ad from this video was just an ad for great big story
Me too
Yes
Me too
Me too! Strange that we all got the same ad. As far as I'm concerned, it's wasted marketing dollars. Considering we're all already watching Great Big Story, we didn't need an ad. I've never seen one of their ads on any other videos, which if I was paying them that's where I'd want my ads.
Me too
A little off topic, but she’s so beautiful! She aged so well, I hope I’m that pretty and full of life at her age. ♥️
For anyone wondering, yes she‘s speaking French. This is because we‘ve got four official languages in Switzerland which are German, Italian, Romansh and French (+ Swiss-German which is not an official language though, because there are so many different variations and there is no written grammar). The Lady lives in the Western part of Switzerland where French is mostly spoken.
The moment when you realize her wrinkly old fragile hands are much more firm than my 20 years old hands 😭😭
With years of experience im sure you can do the same thing
Bruh. Just learn. As i always say; If you don’t wanna fix it then don’t complain.
Ikr
random guy One could say your plump, unskilled, soft, disorganized hands.... Does that sound constructive? Consider grace and respect. Let these reflect in language choices.
Skill and precision come with practice! Some people are just more wobbly than others
Me: I don’t own a house yet, I’m still renting
Old lady: *grabs scissors* Let me see what I can do
Amazing Lady! In this day and age of Cricut, Laser Cutters and other gadgets, traditional DECOUPAGE is a lost art. What I value most out of this story is the patience she had to go through and to finish her art pieces. Those are very ornate and exquisite. I hope that her pieces would end up in Museums. God bless!
I don't think it's dying out, because there are still quite some people around doing papercutting here in Switzerland. Even young men. I had a classmate in farming school who would make some small (10x15cm), fiddly papercuttings during the lessons while being bored. However, he had nearly always some of the best test scores and in the end of the schoolyear he giftet some of his works (the ones he mostly did in classes) to the teachers:) We see those artworks on a regular bases here, they're everywhere in switzerland, mostly very quietly and unnoticed done by normal everyday-hardworking people as some sort of relaxing and kept and never mentioned to someone, or given away to friends. Which may be the reason to the thought of it as a dying form of art. They are traditionally to this day always been done in black&white, coloured as this lady does i haven't seen yet myself. But then again she's from the french speaking part of our country, they are horribly unorganized and messy (her atelier...), but much more colorful and don't care to much about traditions. (which in this particular case i can agree with, because her colored cuttings look much more natural, interesting and alive than the traditional b&w ones)
samuel bhend woah the swiss french being unorganized and messy, that’s actually so true but I never really noticed it! I noticed how the german swiss part always looks neater and kinda strict. :D
@@MsJoeyJody yes. i like it neat and to a certain degree also strict myself but the really sad part about it is, that everybody always contols and judges everyone... the romands (french swiss) live much more "laisser faire" they judge you less on your look and how it looks around you and your property. while in swissgerman part you get very quickly in trouble with other people if you dont follow all rules (written or not) 100%exactly. they go even to local governement to ask them to control your property on things they think you shouldn't do because they don't do it. thats sad. there we really could learn much from the romands and also the ticinesi (ticino - italian speaking part of switzetland)
Literally just saw a great big story ad on this video
See how her hands are shaking ? But she still rocks it WOW
I cant believe what I actually saw. What a talented woman, and national treasure.
i love the way she speaks french, i can actually understand what shes saying as someone who is learning french
Wish I could work for Great Big Story, travel the world to meet interesting people.
Reach out to them...
If you show promising enthusiasm towards their passion, they might just give you a call... :)
Me too! Seems like such a wonderful job!
Why do you have to work for Great Big Story to do this? Work for yourself. Get out there and do new things, go new places and you'll meet the same sorts of people. :-)
@@44BlueFoxes Because GBS has a budget. Unless you are well off and have access to an unlimited fund, traveling to countries just to meet people is cost prohibitive. And it would take at least one or two years of no income to build a decent following (if you're lucky!)
@@davidb5205 if you're genuinely interested in meeting interesting people then you don't need to get on a plane to do it & you don't need a massive budget. If that's what you think you need, then it's not the 'interesting people' you're interested in, it's the carefree rich person's lifestyle you want.
Oooh du français !! J'adore pouvoir comprendre sans les sous titres.. Sinon c'est incroyable ce qu'elle fait
Every Swiss house I’ve been to had a decoupage art hung on its wall. So pretty and original.
How intricate and detailed work of art! I am truly mesmerised 💚🙏
She makes me think of my own grandmother who’s also Swiss so much! They talk the same way and they both love mountains and art about the Alpes! I wish her the best and I hope I’ll find the time to see her découpages when she’ll do another exhibition in Switzerland!

Thats impressive, if u do something you love, you're never get bored
Her art looks really beautiful!! It's amazing how it has remained true to itself, despite being passed down for centuries.
She looks great for 83. And has so much energy for her age too! Wouldn't think she was pass 70
What a lovely art. Simple, and yet so aesthetically pleasing.
Beauty overload, the house, the countryside, the artist and her art.
This was wonderfully wholesome. What an admirable lady !
Really beautiful works. Such a steady hand at her age - most impressing.
What a wonderful artist! Glad she is passing this on to her daughter.
You are traditionally very talented and a fine lady! Thank you for sharing your beautiful work of art and insight to a true old favorite way of expressive art. Each picture crafted tells a story. Beautiful!
Wow, so fiddly to do and such beautiful results - she's brilliant, I love them!
Lovely lovely story. Thank you for keeping up the art alive!
I'll probably get actual paper cuts trying to do this
Her art is so beautiful. Maybe I can try making one someday.
Wow! Those pictures are very beautiful, what creative masterpiece.
I was thinking the whole video "what a waste of resources, why is she doing this for?" then she said this made people happy, it really changed my mind on what someone's purpose in life can be
This type of art is so cool and mesmerizing to look at
Her work is beautiful bcos she draws inspiration from wat she saw or sees. Meaning, she had a beautiful life as a youngster filled with vibrant healthy natural life which reflects in her work. Wish we n our future generations are as lucky as her...
I think the best part of this story is that her supplies and tools are so simple
What a wonderful talent n skill you have. Your work is beautiful. Thank you
I love how she can just travel to Paris just for paper and I’m here contemplating getting up in the morning sitll
Wowww beautiful... The art is really uplifting my mood
I could listen to her talk for a week straight. ♡
How lovely!! What great works of art!!
THIS ! Is a beautiful thing and we can sure use more in our world.
Your videos help me with my french classes
I loved living in Switzerland
You again. With the same comment. Again.
What a lovely, down to earth lady... Much love 👍👍👍
So cool! I’ve always loved paper cuts as an art form.
so far my favorites among them all :) thumbs up!!
I am amazed that she makes all of those without using a stencil or anything. She cuts the paper freehanded! Amazing!
If you understand french you can really hear the passion in her voice and how much fun she has doing it.
What a talented artist!
Beautiful art, woman and story.💕
Wow! I’ve never even known about this beautiful art-form.
Your work is beautiful so amazing thank you for sharing I’m so glad to see it
I got a great big story ad while watching great big story
Good.
As a swiss, this made me feel very patriotic for a second.
Beautiful art indeed. She deserves her prices 👌👌
Man! I can't even cut an outlined drawing and this old beautiful lady can
HUGE RESPECT
Just beautiful!
I remember doing decoupage as a child I loved it

Just Darling! Beautiful lady, beautiful home, beautiful art. I love the French language..Merci!
I just got a big story add before the video even started-
I'M WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS ALREADY.
thank u for the inspiring this video about paper art....i love it 😍
I wish I had this kind of dedication to my own craft.
When a ad of great big story shows on a great big story video
I just got a great big story ad while watching great big story
Beautiful art form...
her voice some what calming
Beautiful art. I was thrilled to hear she makes a good living from her skills and creativity. However...
She wasn't wearing glasses. I'm 53 and I've needed glasses for 6 years now. I mean...come on. That's not fair.
She most likely has had cataract surgery, and got the expensive / close-up lenses. I was amazed at how much I could see after my own surgery.
im 17 and ive needed glasses since i was 7 lol i will probably still need them when im 70
I've had mine since i was 2 years old...
my grandmother's house has many paper cuttings framed on the walls. Both me and my mom also have her paper cuttings hung up. I think it is a very beautiful art, but I don't believe I have the patience to do it.
Why did i always get a great big story advert when i watch a great big story video??
Lol
balmy bollocks, ad blocker.
Me just got an add that was made by this channel. Perfect timing
Wow this is beautiful!
One of my favvvv hobbiieee... Love this lady...😃😃😘😘😘

Great translation!
Amazingly talented Lady 💕
83 years old and such steady hands... i hope i can be like her
Omg I just got an ad about you and I’m watching one of your videos omg
Brilliant and Amazing...
It ain't a video about Switzerland if it does not feature a swiss army knfe
That is so stereotypical to think all they produce are Swiss army knives! ...They also produce cheese. ;)
@@jennhoff03 and chocolate.
And lots of gold
Very fashion type on paper. Art to the next level.
