That car is just so beautiful ! The French carmakers are on a roll since 2014. Peugeot now is considered as 'mid premium' in continental European countries and they are going premium (check out the new 408, absolutely stunning car, or the 308 , the 3008, the 508).... DS Automobiles does great stuff as well : the DS4, DS7, DS9, etc... Citroen C5X, etc... The French have levelled up big time. Same level of quality as the Germans, better design, lower price = better value for money. Vive la France.
220miles in the cold weather is very good from the 60kwh battery! The lower weight definitely helping. 280 sounds very easy to achieve in the warmer monthst
160 miles seems realistic in 7-8 years when new
A French car that is leagues ahead of the Germans ergonomically… That’s not something I’ve ever heard any reviewer say, ever. Super sexy car.
Swapped my id3 for the megane... who would gave thought Renault better quality than a vw but utterly best move ever
Another super presentation, all the relevant information extremely well presented.
Thanks!
I enjoyed watching the Video Review. The Interior Is one of the best and even better than any of Its rivals 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
£40k enough said ! Maybe when all electric cars come in to the realms of sensible pricing as not to drive people off the roads .
Yeah it's a crazy high price and none of these professional car reviewers understand that, they get daily cars for free. Some would call them bribes.
Looks like a great product - but as a pauper with no off-street parking this £40k hatchback is a non-starter for me
It's good but it's £40k for the mid spec model! Even though it has a few issues I'm not sure I would want to pay the extra £9k for the Megane over the MG4.
The MG 4 represents astounding value for money, that's for sure...
Agreed. Great looking car but that sort of money for a family hatchback is madness.
I have driven Hot Hatches for years and i never had one with the Pace of the ETECH, Did you have it in Eco mode ?
on some you tube videos you hear a whine like a turbo on initial acceleration which sound quite good. Does this happen on yrs
I love everything apart from that weird extra bottom bit on the front lights. The new Austral lights would’ve made this pretty much spot on
And by the way the back seats are much more spacey than the t-roc.. took my grandchildren on a long trip and they were impressed with the space… this car will make you smile a lot ❤
Great review.
But, having driven a front-wheel-drive Nissan Leaf for 2 years and, now, a rear-wheel-drive BMW i3 for the last year, I don't think I could go back to a front-wheel-drive model again, especially for an EV with its instant torque...
Still, a terrific effort from Renault with a WAY better interior than the half-baked VW iD.3
I know what you mean; I have an i3 and a 500e and I can definitely feel the difference between the two... My preference would be for RWD and so - based on current options - it might be a close run thing when we come to replacing the much-loved (but leased) i3, between the Megan and the Smart #1...
Interesting. We've not had any issues on modern front-wheel-drive EVs. Seems manufacturers are learning to tune the systems for smoother power delivery, rather than dumping it all in one hit like on older models. But we do love the feeling of a good RWD car too!
I've driven the Reno and the suspension is well able to cope. It's actually - overall - a well engineered Renault. Who'd have thought!
It's 2022, why are you still not beep out the wake word
Top specs do get wooden trim and leather interior but NOT in the UK, only in Europe. Top spec Launch Edition get a rear view camera, 360 camera and Harman Kardon audio, the rest of the launch is the same as the car reviewed here in the UK.
I own a 30kwhr Nissan Leaf. I'm hanging back a couple of years, until 80 & 90 kwhr cars become more of the norm. It won't be long at the current rate of development (what I actually mean is that I want a real-world, winter, motorway speed, 300-350 mile range. That equates to a manufacturer claim of 400-450 miles.
Winter + 70mph just kills the range and the charging infrastructure is lagging a few years behind. I know, I want it all, but my spec means I'd only ever charge at home, using my Solar panels.
Did Renault produce the right hand drive version from the left hand drive without cutting any corners? They cut corners with the whole centre console in the previous ICE Megane.
oh yes, they did cut, only not the corners, but a center screen size for the UK model 😀. Europe version screen size is really nice, but the UK version is slightly too small.
Still a nice car though.
There was an article in the telegraph, saying that most manufacturers of EV's are planning on ramping down production of EV's because now that the well healed early adopters have their new cars, reality has struck. They say that EV's are far too expensive for manufacturers to produce to feed a mass market of people, who just can't afford them.
The EV dream is hitting the wall of reality.
Well, if it's in the Telegraph - that well-known supporter of sustainable living - then I'm sure it's 100% accurate...
Anything The Telegraph publishes re EVs is utter nonsense.
2 things I prefer on our Renault Zoe 135GT are the portrait/vertical infotainment screen & the excellent view out of the rear window.
Great car but it’s super expensive for what it is - MG4 is over £10k cheaper with similar range. I’d sacrifice the looks and interior of this and save myself the ££. Such a shame as this car had so much potential to be great!
The price? Not a chance.
THE Best looking e-hatchback on the market
It all about the range nothing else and the price of course .
I think salary and family wise - I am pretty much mr.average and still think ‘leccy is too early for me to adopt. Infrastructure and logistics -both at home and nationally is too weak and cars still too expensive. Still not strong enough environmental argument for them. 5 years time maybe?!? 🤔
Such a shame that the uk version has much less features than the EU
The UK top spec version doesn’t have self parking, ambient light only in the door panels, no electric adjustment for seats, much smaller infotainment screen..
Yet still paying over £40k for it
I got Rid of my T-roc and In my review to Renault (after buying a Megan e tech) I said VW are finished as this car is very special… having owned over 30 vws and also have a classic vw in my garage.. end of an era In my opinion.. Renault Megan has overtaken for sure.. well done Renault… I love my e-tech ❤
There's no reason to buy a vw in first place. There are more then Renault or VW.
Not a new one anyway
Not reason at all to buy an unreliable renault
@@TheAlee2404I think it’s unfair to say Renaults are ‘unreliable’, yeah they do develop a few cosmetic faults but they certainly make terrifically strong engines and transmissions.
Just bought one
@@reececollison5101 we had one renault in which we change every part of the car and it continues broker
This is not the top spec car that one is simply amazing
Lovely looking car, but then consider you can get a reasonably specced 1 Series for around £30K and it makes you realise just how expensive the Megane is.
E Tec "RS" model needed
Now there's an idea...
This is absolutely gorgeous !!!
Why no comment on average lead times on electric cars- great to see reviews of cars but then you find out some have over a years waiting for delivery- come on do some homework for us as it may help sales
Lead times are so fluid. It's a big problem right now, but might not be in 12 months time. A video like this needs to be relevant in 2-3 years, as much as it is on the day it goes live.
Looking good 👍, too bad not available for the USA market 😢.
Its available in the EU though 👍
All these reviewers who check our SMALL cars are disappointed that they’re - oh, don’t know - a small car. Lol.
But the perfide MG 4 est arrivée. And the game is over, all over l'Europe for Renold industry. 😢
Seems like a great car as long as you don’t plan to carry any adults in the backseats
Typical, we get short changed here in the UK. European buyers get a much bigger central screen which they don't give in the UK.
Such a shame! And yet it's still one of the best systems we've ever used...
The UK's being punished for driving on the correct side of the road.
They really should make this with regular engines as well. would be a big seller
There's a hybrid version.
@Newton I don't think there is
Nope, EV only!
I don’t want a VW ever!!! It’s like the most common car on the road and I don’t wave to buy what is common!
A lovely looking car.
To expensive
Who brings their legs like that, against the bottom of the seat, when sitting in the back? 😂 and then claim, “see? My knees are so high, and I have no leg room” while there’s still plenty of leg room between his legs and the driver’s seat 🤷🏻♂️ Please, get real 😅
Yes but will the Renault be around in 20 years time or do 300,000 miles and still run well? I love French cars. This looks great but my 2002 Fabia Estate is still going strong and is great to drive. I liked the 306 a lot more but you don't see many about now. A lot more mk4 Golf's still going. If it's PCP or company car the Renault is cooler. Personal I'd choose another Volkswagen Group product
will any electric car still be usable in 20 years time?..... they would be long since scrapped due to battery cost.
Renault engines can certainly manage 300k miles, with regular servicing. They‘ve always made fantastic engines😀
@@reececollison5101 Im sure. Just haven't had much experience of them! Which are the good engines then?
@@alextoft9199 The 2000s 1.5 and 2.0l diesels were brilliant, my friend had a 2004 scenic with the 2.0dci, 250k miles! Rust saw to the end of it though :( petrol-wise the 0.9tce is a brilliant little engine too, loads of those with 100k+ miles still knocking about and going strong. They certainly showed Ford how to make a strong small capacity engine!
Never getting another Renault. Bought a Kadjar from new, only did 80K in five years. Treated her gentle. Three alternators, three batteries, various other electrical issues. The engine might be good for 300K but I wouldn't put it past the rest of the car disintegrating around it. Totally unreliable.
20” wheels on a family hatchback - please get real.
It's more common than you might realise these days...
indeed. not good for ride comfort, fuel economy and tire price.
that material on the dash is horrid, imagine getting a stain on that and trying to get it out...also that satnav screen looks terrible, the actual maps on the screen are crammed in a tiny box surrounded by bezels and other crap...makes it look cheap
Won’t need them in a 15 minute city, 😂.
Just one downfall...it does not have real engine in there
Naaa, i stick to my Bentley!
Don’t forget Citroen Renault Peugeot have the best electrics in Europe. Nox😂😂😂😂. That’s why are you by V W
Who’d in their right mind spend this amount of money on a Renault Megane.
If French car makers were ever able to accept their place in the market and price cars like this accordingly, they'd have a much better name in the UK. MG proving just quite how overpriced some really are, but based purely on infotainment alone, I'd have this over the iD3 any day.
@@Beremote it doesn't matter where it's made. It's about being competitive in the market you are and the French seem to price their cars almost like premium cars.
Ze Germans have lost a battle but not ze war, oh wait...
40 grand??? 😂😂😂😂
If I had the money, I certainly wouldn't buy an electric car. I would keep my current diesel and get a hybrid. Best of both worlds.
Renault💪❤️❤️🔝
Looks nice but 40k for a Renault? No chance...
I wonder how many weeks it will take for those door handles to fail.🤣 gotta love Renault build quality
So they replace a very good sporty hatch with another almost 2-ton moving toxic container. The world has gone mad. EVs are NOT environmentally friendly. Since when half-ton toxic metallic batteries are good for the environment? Do you know where they come from and how they process them?? You’ll be shocked.
Its French. It will break.
British Leyland springs to mind...
I like most electric cars and the Zoe was very good. The Megane is a horrid little car, I went to the preview at one of the first dealership events and everyone left within a few minutes disappointed. Too low, too small and the boot is so deep and low you'll nacker your back if you're a reasonable height. I do like the looks but that's the only thing going for it.
Electric cars look so ugly
Renault can't even make an electric window work. God help anyone that buys this overpriced scrap... 😂
