Despite all of the criticism that the FX6 has received from camera reviewers for the lack of audio inputs in the body of the camera, you are the only one to demonstrate what the sound quality from the scratch mic actually is. Thanks a lot. You have earned my subscription.

Great video, thank you! I'm a A7S III owner and I have an idea: Sony should make this high-resolution 3.5" display an optional accessory that can be mounted via a multi-interface hot shoe mount. A crappy LCD on the A7S III is one the key shortcomings to me. I mean, even a budget 5-year-old Panasonic G7 has a better screen.

I've had the FX6 for about a month and I just love it a lot and yes there hard to get but I got mines on time day one. One of the biggest things I love about this camera is the fact that you can store 16 custom Luts / looks and edit them in camera on the fly in the field if needed. You also have 4 Programed presets one being S Cinetone and yes its gorgeous Chris. You will lose a stop + of DR with it but its plenty for most situations. You also can bake these looks in custom or add them on to your post workflow in Cine EI s-log 3 cine. This is my favorite feature. Alister Chapman has a video on this feature. This is on no other camera and it's so powerful. You can get almost any look you want on the fly. I love this camera and I have Two A7s3 but once i got the FX6 in hand thats all i've been using. Not saying the A7S3 are not good because they totally are but i'm really thinking about just getting another FX6 and selling one of my A7S3 it's that good to me. Great review Chris keep up the great work. ps. Another great custom button is to add Focus area to the grip so you can have your flexible spot and wide at the touch of a button and use the joy stick to move the flexible spot it's fast and great that way or tap the screen. Enjoyed the video Chris keep up the great work.

I have been selling my 3 chip pro cameras and moving up to 4k. I just purchased the Sony A7Siii and am thrilled with it, but needed a more substantial video style camcorder to be my A camera while the other Sony will be my b camera. While feverishly watching you and all the other well-respected reviewers, I went ahead and purchased this camera just last week, awaiting the delivery which could be this coming week. I wanted to personally thank you for your help, especially with your passion for details. So essentially I’m getting a 2 in 1 camera. Although I do prefer the zoom capabilities of a dedicated video camera. Hoping the A1 will do well in that area with all the autofocus improvements since the a7s3.

Is it really less expensive than buying and kitting an a7 s iii? I mean from what I understand the monitor is still too small so you still need to rig it and apart from the k3m for xlr and some nd filters the a7 s iii isn't really lacking anything, plus you have the advantage of having the ibis if you need it and evf. And the small factor is great for gimbal. What do you think I am interested ?

Oh yes, I do want one, I do miss my old Canon XA20 because it did a decent job in one little Pro Camcorder. It wasn't great but it held me over waiting for Canon to release a stellar Mirrorless that was worth buying... But, I ended up leaving and buying into Sony.
Now, with the a6600, a7III and the a7SIII I know I would love the FX6!!! It's ideal, yet, I'm also looking to keep my gear small and easy to travel with. I think I might wait to see what the a7IV looks like and replace the a7III first. I need a great stills (Highbred) and my daughter has already liberated the a7III which I don't mind encouraging, she has a great eye for composition and he deserves that camera. So, I need to deal with that missing camera first. I think I'd be OK with the a6600, a7IV and the a7SIII... that's three solid workhorse cameras that are easy to pack, I hope the a7IV slides in beside the a7SIII comfortably and I'm good to go Post Covid! Fingers crossed! If I find I'm back doing more corporate presentations and interviews, the FX6 would be great for the catchall footage.

My work just upgraded to the FS7, which is a great camera, but I was kinda hoping they would wait and pick up one of the Sony FX6. I like the smaller form factor and a few of the new upgrades. No tap to focus is just an absolute dealbreaker.. after shooting long-form (4 person) interviews for bonus features on a film and having tap to focus on the R5c I realized that there was no way I’d want to shoot for 2 hours, rapidly changing focus between the different speakers without tap to focus. When you need to hit focus as fast as possible repeatedly for hours it just becomes a must! I’d happily buy this and switch from canon if this had 12 bit raw and tap to focus plus an additional audio input on the body. Really want a ND system like this but can only afford one video camera setup and one photo setup. tap to focus wins for the majority of the content people have asked for. If I was already in the Sony ecosystem and had lenses and other bodies then yeah I’d probably get this. 😮‍💨😔

What is the general hate against this menu from mirrorless users? There is only one menu better than Sony: Bmpcc4K/6K
I use FX9 / FS7 (and EX3 from 12yrs ago as I have it) as profession at TV gigs, and I just love the Sony menu. I hate the mirrorless menus (A7 / A6600), I find them messy and not showing enough information or options.
Edit: yes, I have ordered this FX6, will get it next week or so.
With this menu, you can go left and scroll the main menu items, no need to scroll thru all the settings in a page to go down. And the 1st page is custom page you can create and add a bunch of the most needes settings into one quick page.
And ofc this camera is intended with use of physical buttons, as I don't want to fiddle with touch screen on the job.

This is a fantastic video, thanks Chris! For some time I have been trying to understand what are the pros and cons, in terms of quality, to recording audio directly into a cinema camera such as the FX6 using the xlr inputs on the top handle, versus recording audio externally to something like a Zoom recorder, in a sort of rigged out mirrorless camera setup using the a7siii. For consistency's sake, let's assume in both scenarios a professional-grade shotgun mic such as the MKH-416 is being used. Any comments on this would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey Chris have you tried the canon c300 mk 3? If so, do you like the picture better on the canon or the fx6 ?

Hello! Thanks for this wonderful video! I have a question for you. Do you think the arm of the fx9 can be used on the fx6?

A really helpful video - thank you. I've learned more about this camera and how it may suit me than any other video I have seen - and it might tear me away from Canon.

Thanks for your video @Chris Brockhurst. I bought the FX6 and I'm a bit confused: I wanted to use it with the base iso 12800 and the noise suppression with a mid or high level, but when I tried it with that, there was a kind of ghosting effect on the material. Especially when I used the high level. Did you have experience with that kind of problem? Or anyone of you and knows how to fix it?

I am shooting most of the time handled. Refering to you ibis/non ibis test, in your opinion, is it possible to have good results handeled without oss or post stabilisation if we stay in a range between 20-50 mm lens ? The form factor of fx6 seems very good for manual focusing, I hope it permit also a good "physical stability". What do you think about it ?

    • @chrisbrockhurst
      @chrisbrockhurst  3 роки тому

providing you use a handle and hold it close to your body for extra stabilization. 100%

Fx6 overall is the better option. If you're doing video work, get a video camera. All the tools are there at your disposal. Then again, use the tool you need for the job. I find too many people just don't know they are missing until they use a dedicated camera.

    Hey!
Shooting with the sigma 24-70 and it doesn’t appear that the manual focus override is working. Any advice? Do I need to change a Manu setting? Thanks!

It would be great if either Sony or a 3rd party created a XLR input that wasn't a handle. Would be useful when camera is being used in a setup here the handle really has no use and is actually in the way.

Could you do a comparison with s-cinetone on the fx6 and the a7siii in slog3 with the s-cinetone LUT? How close are they?

Love the S-Cinetone look....wish they woul add that to the a7siii, I mean the A1 has it they really should add it to their video focused model.....Man looks like a fun camera. I think if you make a living in video (which of course you do) why not have an FX6 if you want it? Other than form factor built in ND’s very similar camera to the a7siii. I couldn’t do it. Did you decide yet? I will say waiting for the day Sony adds built in ND to their mirrorless bodies. Will be crazy.

    • @chrisbrockhurst

@@chrisbrockhurst chris..i dont know if someones gonna spend 3 thousand more just for s cinetone in my opinion
why not use slog 3 instead of s cinetone, s cinetone doesn't recover the highlights as well

I agree. But the point is the A7siii is their flagship video camera and their flagship video profile is in a stills camera 🤷🏻‍♂️
