I started and got to 59 without knowing fully what astral fire and umbral ice did. I just knew that fire for good damage, ice for good mp. That is why intelligence is a good stat for mages.
It’s really not as hard as it sounds. True difficulty comes in movement . A blm will always have the lowest dps until they learn the lay out of the field and enemy rotation, and slid casting is your friend.
I'm damn determined to finally learn my fav FF class in FFXIV and good lord it's sooo much more complex than it feels it should be after being a healer main for years XD I feel like you need vastly more forward thinking than Scholar despite that being a quirk of the healer, but actually looking at rotations it actually isn't any more difficult. I just lack the years of muscle memory. I can do this. Guides like this are so helpful.

so i've been a black mage and only a black mage for a long long time now. This guide goes into great details and i love it! thumbs up for that. there's only 2 things that i seem to do differently (keep in mind i may be wrong here). 1. Why not get thunder 1 or thunder 2 running as fast as possible and open with that. This way you might even trigger a free thunder proc during your first setup even before you go into astral fire phase. I like to use my sharpcast for fire 1 instead of thunder to give me an easy enochian refresh during the phase i'm spamming fire 4. 2. This is a must know for all current and future black mages. "Stand on the edge of your ley lines". Now this may not seem very important as a whole but when an aoe targets you while standing on the edge of your ley lines sometimes you might be able to move to the other side of the ley lines to avoid the aoe and still get the ley line bonus. Yeah that stat distribution is a science of its own value, actually I am completely overmelding full sets of 450 crafted gear for every job, which seems to grant insane DPS gains 😅
That seems to be the way to go since the crafted ilvl 450 base stats are amazing for BLM. Overmelds can probably carry you on the E4S early prog. Gotta pump those zenoglossy numbers up amirite?
Legacy BLM here...first off what is the Anime BLM cutscene towards the end of this vid from? I wanna watch it. 2nd...Great Video. As a BLM when others ask how to optimize your rotation it is difficult to explain without someones brain melting and then they just say screw it and go back to button mashing on a bard haha! You managed to say/show this in a way that, maybe seems difficult but makes them confident in attempting. And u are spot on with both iterations of that rotation. We all have a few minor tweaks to our own preferences, I for example use transpose more to give me more versatility without having to almost stare at GCD times which causes me to not be staring at the pool of doom I will be standing in and not realize it. But well done. So good. BLM could imo benefit from some form of an invincible limited proc/spell that would kick in after keeping astral phase for so long. Idk. Lol it would be nice to see a BLM stand in an insta kill area while everyone is huddled across the map and not fighting while we are just in the goo blowing the life out of the boss. Even if it is only usable like 1 time per fight.

good point about clipping ever since i started noticing the recast times not matching up, I've been using clip space to cast instant cast spells. It gives me more time on the astral/umbral counter to use damage spells more effectively.
Once you go Black(Mage) you never go back. While I've always been a fan of tank classes my whole life, I became decided to go BLM for my character when I was getting back into Final Fantasy XIV. I've mained BLM ever since.

Blm since 2.0. 99% of Blm is position. You need to be where you are supposed to be before you're supposed to be there so when you need to be there you don't have to move and keep uptime. Also don't be afraid to bait telegraphs with Leylines. Because there is a very high probability that you will be targeted when you drop it.
in your double sharp opener towards the end after the second sharpcast you said cast sharp cast, F1, F4,F4 Despair, F3 ect ect. i thought once you cast Despair your out of mana OOM or did i miss something?
You are using Manafont, to get back some MP to finish your Astral Fire. Maybe check out my most recent NoB4 opener video. Its actually less difficult and stronger on paper 😊👍
As for AOE, you actually get higher damage output by simply transposing with one of your Flares rather than going Fire 3 (in cases where you don't have any Swift/triple cast as a single Target Fire 3 is useless in AoE and effectively eats one of your GCDs. But if you do have any Swift Cast then go Fire 3.

Okay I just got my blm to 70 and I'm a little confused on the rotation like I can use freeze to get my umbral hearts then fire 4 but I have to keep the enochian up to get my resource so do I just have to keep switching back and forth to maintain enochian or what
Have 3 stacks of fire or ice gives 50% cast speed on the opposite spell and fire and blizzard 3 are the one you use for switch worse case scnario you use the the ability that swap between fire and ice
I know these vids are old, but I thank you for them. I have a lvl 27 BLM. I come from WoW where I played for about 12 years. I haven't played any MMO's in a long while AND I have never lvl'd a caster to max lvl, EVER. I really am enjoying the BLM right now. I'm on a trial account because I am still not sure about paying to play. I know, weird. My question is this, how is this character able to do so much more dmg than any other DPS. In WoW, I had a rogue and my main was a hunter. I constantly had more DPS than any caster. Maybe they just sucked, idk. Are you planning any updating to these kind or vids (or have them already)? :You also have a new sub. Hopefully you don't mind questions. I have a lot lol.

At some point, you say you have to switch back to ombral ice after despair by using blizzard 3 but doesn't despair empty your mp? Am I supposed to use transpose to go back to ombral and then b3? Anyways, great video as always
Okay so in the new update once you're in Full on Astral Fire, Ice Spells cost absolutely nothing, in terms of MP, to cast. So go crazy with fire spells, go all out and once you're in need of replenishing Cast Ice 3 and go from there.
I just picked up BLM, i have never played anything else than DRG since ARR, so it's kind of cool to use something different... Has been pretty fun so far, but yeaaaaa movement is pretty hard for me, since Dragoons are super mobile and BLM is like the exact opposite :D however i am getting used to it pretty well already, tho i still got my fair share of problems, especially that i get really nervous when astral fire is about to run out and i fatfinger and don't hit Swift cast in time, hahaha.... Anyway, the guide has been pretty useful, was a very helpful video, especially for newcomers to the job like me! I can totally agree now why people say that BLM is easy to learn but hard to master, because you need to keep your cool even during hectic Savage encounters... Kinda reminds me of DRG back in HW when BotD uptime was pretty hard to maintain and get its full potential out ! By far more fun than Dragoon this expansion, as they made that a little bit too easy now. Cheers for the guide :)
in deinen letzten guide hatteste davon gesprochen das ein knapper wert von 1500 cast speed gut wäre. mein englisch ist nicht das beste daher hab ich es vielleicht missverstanden aber hat sich das geändert? weil ich meine das dieses mal kein wort mehr darüber gefallen ist.
Das hat sich geändert durch die Erhöhung der Zeit von Astral Fire und Umbral Ice von 13 auf 15 Sekunden, daher hat man nun mehr Zeit und Zaubertempo ist nicht mehr so relevant wie vorher, aber immernoch ein guter Wert, auf den man abzielen sollte so gut es geht 😊👍

I've watched this like 5x trying to figure the aoe rotation because whenever I tried it I never had the mana to cast freeze after my flares. Just looked at my traits to see I literally get that one next level.
Before hitting that important milestone level, you can use transpose after the second flare to bring you from fire 3 to level 1 ice, which gives you enough mana regeneration to cast the next Freeze. However, there's about a second of delay before the mana actually ticks in, so ideally you should use that "empty time" on something useful, like casting your Foul (which costs no mana) or some instant cast spell or potion.
Because your opener is one of the biggest contributor to ending with a overall high dps and so you want to align the most damage output with all the buffs from the rest of your party so with that in mind the NB4 opener is the highest damage output per pps available people spent weeks doing the math already so no need to over think it

Basically your rotation/overall dps wont improve with high spell-speed, since to get a high SpS you need to sacrifice meld slots that you could use for Crit/DH/Det. So the general idea is to get a SpS that feels ok for you, not too fast or not too slow.

At some point, you say you have to switch back to ombral ice after despair by using blizzard 3 but doesn't despair empty your mp? Am I supposed to use transpose to go back to ombral and then b3? Anyways, great video as always
Okay so in the new update once you're in Full on Astral Fire, Ice Spells cost absolutely nothing, in terms of MP, to cast. So go crazy with fire spells, go all out and once you're in need of replenishing Cast Ice 3 and go from there.

I just picked up BLM, i have never played anything else than DRG since ARR, so it's kind of cool to use something different... Has been pretty fun so far, but yeaaaaa movement is pretty hard for me, since Dragoons are super mobile and BLM is like the exact opposite :D however i am getting used to it pretty well already, tho i still got my fair share of problems, especially that i get really nervous when astral fire is about to run out and i fatfinger and don't hit Swift cast in time, hahaha.... Anyway, the guide has been pretty useful, was a very helpful video, especially for newcomers to the job like me! I can totally agree now why people say that BLM is easy to learn but hard to master, because you need to keep your cool even during hectic Savage encounters... Kinda reminds me of DRG back in HW when BotD uptime was pretty hard to maintain and get its full potential out
! By far more fun than Dragoon this expansion, as they made that a little bit too easy now. Cheers for the guide :)

in deinen letzten guide hatteste davon gesprochen das ein knapper wert von 1500 cast speed gut wäre. mein englisch ist nicht das beste daher hab ich es vielleicht missverstanden aber hat sich das geändert? weil ich meine das dieses mal kein wort mehr darüber gefallen ist.
Das hat sich geändert durch die Erhöhung der Zeit von Astral Fire und Umbral Ice von 13 auf 15 Sekunden, daher hat man nun mehr Zeit und Zaubertempo ist nicht mehr so relevant wie vorher, aber immernoch ein guter Wert, auf den man abzielen sollte so gut es geht 😊👍
@@DesperiusFFXIV ok das heisst wie du im video beschrieben krit und direkt treffer sockeln (wobei es wie es sich angehört hat geschmackssache ist was man bevorzugt) ausser der wert ist am maximum dann entschlossenheit. cast speed wird schlicht nur noch auf dem gear selbst mitgenommen. richtig?

I've watched this like 5x trying to figure the aoe rotation because whenever I tried it I never had the mana to cast freeze after my flares. Just looked at my traits to see I literally get that one next level.
Before hitting that important milestone level, you can use transpose after the second flare to bring you from fire 3 to level 1 ice, which gives you enough mana regeneration to cast the next Freeze. However, there's about a second of delay before the mana actually ticks in, so ideally you should use that "empty time" on something useful, like casting your Foul (which costs no mana) or some instant cast spell or potion.
The intro is fucking awesome!
Clipping mana ward to survive mechanics is a dps gain. And a blessing to healers when they just can't seem to adjust.

Why not open with swiftcasted F3, depleting the mana with F4s into despair, then manafront and F4 + despair - and only then doing the ice age?
Because your opener is one of the biggest contributor to ending with a overall high dps and so you want to align the most damage output with all the buffs from the rest of your party so with that in mind the NB4 opener is the highest damage output per pps available people spent weeks doing the math already so no need to over think it

2:45 I wouldn't say that, BLM has massive group support -> they attract ALL the AoEs, so raids always know which way they'll go. :p
can someone explain this comfort level in regards to SpS ?
Basically your rotation/overall dps wont improve with high spell-speed, since to get a high SpS you need to sacrifice meld slots that you could use for Crit/DH/Det. So the general idea is to get a SpS that feels ok for you, not too fast or not too slow.
