    I have a 1993 TROOPER with 120,000 miles. Body looks used, but interior is still good. The older it gets, more little things break or fall off. I have the under powered gas engine popular in the U.S. at that time. But, I love this vehicle, sits high off the road, 4WD, and plenty of room in the back for camping equipment. I would like to modify it for off-road use, like yours, so that I can sleep in the back. You have given me a lot of ideas. What changes did you make, if any, for shocks, springs, etc. so that the vehicle could take the beating of rough roads. THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!

      r g Hey mate, i have added 2" rear springs and front and rear shocks, then just turn up the front torsion bars to suit. That combined with some decent offroad tires and you'll get where you need to go for sure.

    Hey Gibbet...What an awesome cheap camping set up, well done bro! My flatmate has same 4wd and has the near same set up by following your instructions..even the curtains which is brilliant idea (that keeps the sun out at 5am when you wanna have a sleep in till 7am) `Instead of the foam matteress, mate has a double air mattress from the tv infomercials (those ones with inbuilt pump self inflating ones for $100)... its far more comfortable with more room than another mates 4wd with his set up which has all the fruit! AND..all he has to do now is pull up...move couple things around.. and hes ready for the night.. and he also added a drop down table to the back doors....now hes laughing! Hey...how about more vids with follow up to whats been happening? cheers!

      hey man thanks, yeah i'm all about the budget lol That's awesome that it inspired someone to do similar! Sounds great would like to see your mates set up. I've since resprayed the rig with gun metal hammertone for $200, came up pretty good. I'll have to do a vid to show you how the respray turned out. Cheers!

      Skid up Light up The 3.1TD goes well and is reliable if you can find one without too many kms, stay away from the 3.0 they are a nightmare. The petrol models are powerful but chew fuel.

    G'day mate. Just a couple of questions. I'm trying to get a roof rack for my daughter's 2000 Jack and they keep saying you can't.
    How did you get yours to work.
    Also is yours a petrol or diesel.
    Ours is petrol and they are saying you can't fit a snorkel to a petrol
    Thanks for your help.
    Great rig by the way

    Hello there
    Love your trooper, are your tyres size a 265/75/R 16 without wheel arch flares?

    • @gibbethoskins8621
      @gibbethoskins8621  3 роки тому

      Yes which is basically a 32" tyre on a 16" rim without flares. If you have flares a 0 offset fits perfectly on a trooper.

  • @jeffn1384

    Is the mattress on a board support right through or is it on the folded seat only. Also did you make our buy the pull out storage at the back.

    • @gibbethoskins8621
      @gibbethoskins8621  3 роки тому

      I have a board that slides forward and rests on top of the seats. Sliding up the headrests to their highest position helps hold it up.

  • @rallynut78
    @rallynut78 7 років тому +1

    Nice set up. I'm going to do that to my trooper. Would have liked to see how the board goes over the back seats. Is it hinged to be able to use them when not camping?

    • @gibbethoskins8621
      @gibbethoskins8621  7 років тому +1

      chris youmatzo Hey mate no it's not hinged, it just slides forward then locks in using a special cabinet joint, there are a number if ways you could do it. I didn't hinge it because when you flip it over it would hit the roof

    • @rallynut78

    • @gibbethoskins8621
      @gibbethoskins8621  8 років тому

      Yeah these engines are good (3.1 4JG2) 92-97 This one has almost 500,000kms (310,000 miles) and still going strong. The later model 3.0 diesel (98 onwards) is problematic though, better to stay away from those.

    • @clericduran
      @clericduran 8 років тому

      Thanks for the heads up. Have you ever seen the two door version? If so can you comment on its cargo area. I am wondering how much space you lose for the advantage of short wheelbase.

    • @gibbethoskins8621
      @gibbethoskins8621  8 років тому +1

      Ephraim Duran Yeah I've seen them their cargo area is pretty much the same as the LWB but you obviously loose the rear seats. As someone who's owned both I personally like LWB better. SWBs are prone to roll overs, bumpier ride and less cargo area, In most cases LWBs perform better, especially steep hill climbs and declines, which are where most rollovers occur. I definitely get a lot of use out of the rear seats in terms of space and the ability to take extra passengers and obviously the bed.

    • @LoudMercury

      Isnt the diesel that came in the trooper the same as what they put in bobcats here in the states??

  • @Brad-bv5bu

    Hi mate, I got a 2000 jack, was thinking of doing the same bed draw set up, does the bed fit with the driver and passenger seat all the way back?

    • @gibbethoskins8621
      @gibbethoskins8621  8 років тому

      hey mate, yeah my double foam matress fits fine with the seats back when driving. But when i sleep i put the seats slightly forward as otherwise my feet just touch it, i'm 5'10

    nice setup, where are you from? do you need those tires to go on the beach. how did you keep the matress level with the seats I have a 98 4x4 thinking about doing the same. cheers

    • @gibbethoskins8621
      @gibbethoskins8621  8 років тому

      +Aaron Osborne hey mate, the seats fold down flat 90 degrees and the rear draws line up so that they are the same height, and I have another piece of board that slides forward and locks in to hold the front of the mattress up. If you look at my videos I have an older vid that explains it better. Although I have since updated it to use a different locking system, which i had custom fitted. A simple biscuit joint style works fine though.

    • @gibbethoskins8621
      @gibbethoskins8621  8 років тому +1

      +Gibbet Hoskins sorry forgot to answer your other questions. I'm from Byron Bay area, and no you don't need tyres like that for the beach, those particular tires are actually suited best for mud. Any tire is fine on the beach as long as you run approx 16psi to get bigger more flexible footprint. Full tire pressure (35-40psi) doesn't go well in soft sand and you'll likely get bogged. Also good idea to get a little air compressor to air back up when you leave the beach as driving on road with low tire pressure can heat up and damage the side wall of your tire potentially causing a blow out.

    Hey mate I have the same car just in short wheel base and I have the same rims what wheels do u run on them

    • @gibbethoskins8621
      @gibbethoskins8621  8 років тому

      +Jack Haley Hey mate, I run Dynastorm Mud Terrains 265 75 R16 which is basically a 32" x 10" tyre (with about 2" lift). Although I previously had 32 x 12" on a 0 offset rim (different rims) and they handled much better as it had a slightly wider stance and obviously wider tread, I would recommend those. After these tyres wear out I will be going back to those for sure.
