Art Fleming "#Jeopardy!" final episode from #1979, taken from #Y2Play, annoying screaming bumpers edited out.
Curious about Welsh? JenX makes it fun and easy! @JenXOfficialEDM
Art Fleming & Alex Trebek were both born to fit into hosting this show.Again RIP ART & ALEX!!
Art Fleming would praise contestants by saying Well Done. To this day, I use this phrase with gusto when I'm pleased with someone's work..lol
Is that kinda like telling a writer that the paper they printed their manuscript is nice?
The late Art Fleming sure put on some weight when he hosted the Jeopardy reboot from 1978-79!!
I'm glad the elimination rule had already disappeared by the time Alex Trebek became the presenter.
I don't ever the Jeopardy with Art Fleming one. I was a kid back then playing and enjoying the outside when I was young, but now I am older I have been watching the Art Fleming ones. They were good.
"Well, my friends, I have a very sad announcement to make. At this time, this is the last Jeopardy telecast on NBC. I would like to thank the literally hundreds of people involved with our program, for all their kind, thoughtful efforts over the many, many weeks that we've been with you. I'd like to thank first the crew here in our studios, who worked so diligently behind the scenes, our production staff, our contestants, and most of all, our viewers. Until next time, thank you again for all your thoughts. God bless and see you soon. Bye now."
and then jeopardy came back in 1983 and 1984 and is still airing on TV to this day
I watched that entire 8 hour Game Show Network Y2K special while drunk on Corona beer. What a way to start 2000!😂
Better a beer than a bug. :)
Shame on NBC for "wiping" (erasing) the tapes of the classic "Jeopardy" episodes from the 60's and early 70's! Because of that, few episodes survive today. Those were the "Jeopardy"s I grew up with. When I was in second grade during the 1969-70 school year I remember coming home at lunchtime and watching the show with my Mom and sister. The earlier Art Fleming episodes were easily the best ones.
Equally frustrating is that recently a contestant on the current "Jeopardy" stated she was on the original version, and many fans of the show were asking if her original appearance can be seen on UA-cam or any other platform. Because of NBC's brilliant move, that contestant's appearance on the original "Jeopardy" is *lost forever.* Sony also confirmed they did not have any archival prints of any of the original "Jeopardy" episodes in their vaults.
Thanks a lot (sarcastically speaking), NBC!
(BTW: When this final episode of this version of "Jeopardy" aired on March 2, 1979, I was in my junior year of high school at Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, Illinois. Obviously, how could I have seen this show while I was in school? VCR's were still in their infancy but didn't start catching on until a year-and-a-half later. Sad.)
Thank you for watching and commenting. Did they delete them on purpose, or were they lost in the WTC terror attacks?
@SybilKibble This was in the mid-70's, so yes, it was deliberate since NBC apparently couldn't afford to purchase any new blank tapes. This was well before 9/11/2001.
@@Kramden429 It was far more complicated than not being able to "afford to purchase any new blank tapes." There was also the issue of STORING those tapes. Tapes back then cost money. Storing the massive number of tapes that would have been required with proper temperature and humidity control would have cost even more money. And no one back then would have thought they would be myriad cable and streaming channels that would EVER have an audience that wanted to sit back and watch reruns of game shows (not to mention many other types of shows)!
Art Fleming was Jeopardy. I always enjoyed watching him. Ken Jennings is the first since Art Fleming who is molding Jeopardy.
Aired on NBC daytime Friday, March 2, 1979.
Surreal to think that if this version had been as or more successful as the original 1964-1975 series, we might never have gotten the host/announcer combo of Alex Trebek and Johnny Gilbert.
This version of Jeopardy gave a lot more money than the 1964-75 version. I just saw an episode of Jeopardy from 1974 here on UA-cam. The champion that lost the match had a 2-day total of $2,020.
The lowest dollar value on the original run was $10, this version it was $25. Today it's $200.
In the 1990s Charlie Seiter wrote books about popular technologies and the company where I worked published his books.
Oh boy, Art taking a jab at the director… 😂
where?
ART FLEMING WAS JEOPARDY 1964-1975 & 1978-79 FOR 2,858 EPISODES & ALEX TREBEK WAS JEOPARDY FOR 36 YEARS IN SYNDICATION 1984-2020 & 8,243 EPISODES!! NOW KEN JENNINGS & MAYIM BIALIK ARE CONTINUING THE JEOPARDY LEGACY!! BESIDES ART FLEMING AND ALEX TREBEK THANK YOU & RIP!! ART & ALEX & MR.MERV GRIFFIN & MR.DON PARDO & MR.JOHN HARLIN!!
the person in the beginning of this video mentioned the Y2K disaster that never happened, so this is probably a rerun from the 90s
Re-airing indeed, from Dec 31, 1999.
Alex Trebek was a good host, but Art Fleming was way better and was born for the role of host for this show.
I like this verson of Jeopardy with Art Flemming Please upload with Alex Trebek too
hope you find what you're looking for. thanks for watching!
STILL REMEMBER THE OLD "FRISCO DISCO"THEME WHICH WAS USED LATER FOR WHEEL OF FORTUNE AS A PRIZE CUE!! & THAT OLD MERV GRIFFIN PRODUCTIONS LOGO.
I was surprised to find the both Art Fleming and Alex Trebek died from pancreatic cancer
I wish they can bring back the Bonus Round right now so that Players could Win another $5,000 because this is 2023 a New Year and Ken Jennings should make this happen although the Quiz Show is going strong which I give them a Credit..Really they should add more Games to that. I figured If Wheel Of Fortune Added more Games with the Bonus long time ago and it’s still doing it why not this one right now for Jeopardy? Because should do something different!
A Final thought!! Being this was the last of the Art Fleming Jeopardy for the 2nd time!!-- when Susan won that SUPER JEOPARDY ALA HOLLYWOOD SQUARES/3 STRIKES FROM.PRICE IS RIGHT!! she should have won at least $10,000 & A NEW CAR 🚙!!
I thought Don Pardo was the announcer of this version of Jeopardy!
Don Pardo announced the New York production of Jeopardy from 1964-1974. This version, produced in LA, was announced by John Harlan from 1978-1979.
I don't recall ever seeing Jeopardy before Alex Trebek was hosting (low dollar amounts)
Actually, those dollar amounts were worth more than today’s winnings.
This version of Jeopardy! might've lasted had they kept Final Jeopardy! where was Merv when this happened?
probably counting his millions
I think by this point Merv was most concerned with his late night talk show.
It went up against the $20,000 pyramid on ABC and the young and the restless on CBS
March 2, 1979
Thank you, updated
This old Super Final.Jeopardy is sort of like FINAL JEOPARDY ALA HOLLYWOOD SQUARES MEETS 3 STRIKES FROM THE PRICE IS RIGHT!!
"God bless." If someone said that today they'd never work in Hollywood again.
Sad!
That hurts
Alex Trebek May had been a great Game Show host for this Title of Jeopardy, but Art Flemmings was the Gentleman that was ready when he prepared to host the Show. Art didn’t just have the First Round and Second Round to play, but he also added one more game which was of course the Bonus Round where the Players could Win up to $5,000 in Cash.
Also RIP DON PARDO & JOHN HARLAN & MERV GRIFFIN!!
Why did so called "Art Fleming" drop his last birth name? What was wrong with Arthur Fleming Fazzin, as monicker?! The omission of his last name showed disrespect of his heritage. It was probably done by pressure from a Studio big shot and or a greedy Business Manager, with the idea of perceived greater recognition & monetary gain?!
It would take WAY too long to explain it to you. And he changed his name way before Jeopardy. He did a little acting.
Oh, please. Disrespect to his heritage. 🙄
