Because of your hard work and this video, I was able to blast the burnt and soot covered wood under my house after a lightning strike. The coal slag 30/60 mesh media like you use is great stuff !!! We had to add a 30 foot garden hose to reach half way under the house. With the water trap, the media makes it all of the way to the end of the long hose with not too much plugging. The under side of the house and the front yard look a lot like your container floor!! Thanks Again !!!
Yep, I have the same one and did my 54 chevy truck, and it came out great. I wore long sleeve shirt and gloves, as I couldn't stand that sand hitting my bare skin with the humidity and sweat, getting that cancer causing crap enter my pores...
I heard if you fill the tank with paint you can blast the paint on. Just kidding, nice job , now I'll have to get my HF one out and see if i can get it to work again.
Looking good! Man U are a champ that's a lot of area to blast. I have never had any luck with a pressure blaster been doing auto body work my whole life, I have used the big boys on the trailers those pro models did very well .Congrats on your success.
Thanks. It looks like a lot more work than it actually was. @ 2 1/2 to 3 hrs of total blast time on the inside. The outside took longer. A pro rig would have been the way to go but, cost and how often I was going to use it were the deciding factors.
I got some of the 50 pounders from Tractor supply for $7.99. The best deal I got was from Northern Tool when they were on sale for $6.99 a bag. The last 3 bags that I bought the other day were $8.99 a bag from Northern Tool.

Have the dual tank eastwood blaster love it have not ran black diamond coal slag people at eastwood told me not to might damage my blaster dont know but cost to much to risk messing it up
Beats the heck out of a wire brush, I have a harbor freight unit other than being a different color and the hose being a bit different they look identical, it doesn't get used too much but it's handy when it's needed.. That's going to be a good looking container when you get done.

Did you have problems when the media in the tank went to about a 1/4 level in the tank? I found the pressure in th tank pushing thru the media and not blasting well unless the media in the tank was over 1/4 to a 1/2 full. A lot of fighting in the process to get the blasting done.
PPE and very aggressive ventilation ( I use bounce house and carpet dryer fans for forced air in such spaces) are a very good idea. Note to container buyers, unless poverty leaves you no choice if you are buying to make shop space etc save up for a "one trip" grade container since the (condemned for maritime use) "WWT" and "storage grade" boxes tend to have severe faults including bad end door gaskets, corrosion, dents etc. I learned the hard way so you don't have to.
Hello, I can see that you are actively replying to this so thank you for that!! I have a sandblasting pot and a total of 5HP running on two compressors.... The only issue is that it isn't throwing the sand out of the gun.... I think this is due to my sandblasting pot not being pressurised but being only container that feeds the sand to the gun. What do you think about this? Any reply is appreciated as I'm a bit stuck here.... Thanks
I used to have one like you described. It clogged up a lot until I started filtering the blast media(sand) that I was using. You should also make sure that you are using a good quality moisture separator on your compressor and that you have sufficient air pressure at the gun.
@@Dave-mf5fv They work very well. I've only had one HF sandblaster and it had problems from the start. It never fed and the tips wear out incredibly fast. Eastwood is one of the better brands. I haven't used the Eastwood much, but it has never had any issues.

I love Harbor Freight for those small specialty tools you only use once, but usually I just spend the money on a nicer tool and then starve myself for the next few weeks to make up of the debt. 😉
What grit size abrasive are you using? I want to get one of the dual tank ones from Eastwood, but it says that it can't run anything more coarse than 90 grit...
30/60 grit is what I am using and it works for me. I am also running a high dollar Milton moisture/filter/regulator and I think that helps. I put it before the blaster right off of the compressor.
If memory serves, I used @9-12 bags inside and out. I used 4 gallons of Behr exterior white paint on the inside walls/ceiling and 1 gallon of Rustoleum floor paint. 1 gallon of Rustoleum Primer and top coat on the roof. Did you all ready pinted this?? I have to clean the interior of a shipping container, is not rust.. but is like "grease" Or something that has supported and marked the plate. Who can i clean it??
I would probably tilt the container downward (door opening lower than the rear of the container), put some water proof tarps(Harbor Freight) on the floor starting at the entrance and continuing to the rear. I would get some good quality duct tape and tape the waterproof tarps to the very bottom of the container metal maybe 1 inch up from the floor. I would start cleaning in the rear and work my way toward the entrance and use some high quality proper personal safety equipment. If I were to get some water on the floor it would very likely dry out and be ok as long as it is not already rotted. You could have a powerful shop vac on hand to get up any water that might get past that. I would let the container air out with a powerful fan to help until everything is dry. **** On a special note, you might not want to wash what is ever covering the walls of the container if it is some kind of hazardous chemical(s) with out having some way to catch it before it gets on the ground and contaminates your ground water or property! You should find out what that stuff is before you start getting it all over you and your property!**** Your other alternative is to hand scrub the walls on small section at a time being very careful to not get any water on the floor and wiping off the residue as you go with disposable rags/towels. I would still put down the tarps and take all safety measures! I would still find out what that gunk is for safety!
You can buy a new 40' high cube container for $2300. Could had sold that one for $1200. That would had been $1100 out of pocket and no blasting work. Time is money. Would had spent the $1100 any day over all that work.
When I get rich like you maybe, I will pursue that course of action but, until then, a little spare time and some elbow grease have paid off for me. Also, that $1,100 bucks saved could be spent on something else.

This blaster is more that up to the job but, I would check with the Eastwood company first in as far as to find out what would be the proper blast media for the job. My shipping container walls are a lot thicker than most car bodies. Some people have had there classic cars professionally sand blasted only to have all of the body panels warped.
My jiggling technique was quite effective in blasting the surface rust off of this 40 foot shipping container inside and out. I have since painted the container like I was painting it. How about you make a vid and show us all the proper approved method for removing rust with a hobby sandblaster on a container?

I am far from a know-it-all but, I can tell you that the methods I employed, however amateur, got some professional results. You making a video is for the benefit of all mankind who want to know the proper way to operated a hobby blaster.
Eastwood is a rip off, I have one that’s near identical to this, same hoses, same blast gun etc and it works just as good as this does for a third of the price from eBay, they’re all made in China just Eastwood rebrands them and triples the price lol

Also because I have been on my own at 17 and worked my ass off for everything I have. Where I come from I’m upper middle income. No where near “rich”. When I look at how many days of work you have to put in to get that container cleaned and repainted I naturally assume that that time could had been used to make more profit in another area and it makes sense to come out the $700 especially since the container would be brand new. And I personally don’t have the back for all that blasting. They deliver free with the purchase from a place in NJ. But that would be a local NJ/NY delivery. Good luck with it.

Doesn’t look like you are running a large enough compressor for the job. You need a minimum of 18cfm. It should be blasting the metal bare.

I've run quite a few bags of coal slag through it with no ill effects.

Wow that pressure pot works a lot better than the one I made. But I was using sand. Plus just a ball valve for a noble. Need to change that to a gun.

them containers are made from core 10 steel the rust is a coating that protects the steel. check it out
The rust protected the integrity of the container so well that it ate rust holes in various parts of it and that is why I had to sandblast and paint.

Yes but, I would be very cautious. Some people have warped body panels by using too power or the wrong technique.

I have a 175 PSI 5HP 2 stage compressor and a Milton regulator/water filter separator set to @90PSI. I do not know what the cfm's are.

My compressor goes to 175 psi but, I regulat the pressure of the blaster to @90psi.
