Wanted to know if you stay mostly on the west coast, east coast or some where in the middle while using this product? Because for now we are going to be mostly on the east coast for the next year until our grandbaby is born
We were all over the country. Did a full loop and a half. The weBoost is more hands when you are out west with poor cell reception, but it honestly varies from spot to spot and exactly where you are camping.
Hi we are looking for internet when there is no cellular coverage. Which happens a lot in Texas state parks. Does weboost only work if you have cell coverage? How do you get internet when your phones have no coverage? Is there a system that we can add to our RV that would pull from nearby cell towers?
weboost is the best option to get better coverage. It can't pull service if there is absolutely zero signal, but it can enhance it if it can pick something up. Keep in mind that if you are on the inside of an RV, you have worse service than if you are outside. The antenna for the weBoost is on the roof, so it will get better signal than a cell phone on the inside of an RV.
Thank you for video, when we start boondocking in December were only going to use data for cell phone and streaming Netflix , youtube. We're with verizon right now but there the most expensive how would you rate T mobile? Thank you
I'm grandfathered into a Verizon unlimited plan. Would you recommend I grab their hotspot plus the weboost? Can you do the weboost without the hotspot? How do they differ, or why do they need each other? Thanks!!
So...I currently have a Sprint plan with unlimited talk, text, and data and an iPhoneXs. I use my phone's hotspot for wifi to my laptop. Mainly, I think I need to boost my phone's signal with the WeBoost. Someone suggested I need a Netgear Nighthawk MR1100 but I can't figure out what that is or why. Is it a type of wifi booster, similar to the one you described? It's a router, for sure, but what signal would it be trying to route for me?
The Netgear Nighthawk is a powerful router. It doesn't do the same thing as a WeBoost. It would give you a strong wifi signal if you were connected to a regular internet connection. If you are using your cell phone as a hotspot device for your other devices, the WeBoost is what you'll need to boost your signal for faster internet.
So I'm curious, not being a tech guy but a heavy user, using the WEboost 4G RV, my Note 9 + the built in HotSpot, and my Plantronic Voyager Bluetooth (or similar), would I really need a wifi booster? Better yet aren't there routers av available that will utilize 3G 4G? Thanks great review
Great info here - I’m going to pass it to some friends of ours who are deciding what they need to get started! FYI - either there is a small typo in the title of your thumbnail or there is a new acronym I need to learn!
Great videos. On your hotspot. You mention that you try to stay around 750GB of usage. Where did you get this number? I'm just curious. We have an AT&T data plan that is labeled as unlimited but we too feel we should stay within a certain usage so we don't get flagged as a "heavy data user".
That number came from the person we purchased the line from. Apparently in Verizon's system, lines that go over 750GB in a month get flagged for review. Simply don't want to make the list.
@@BobbyHilll132 I'd be interested in learning more about what you have to offer. I currently have an AT&T plan through OTR Mobile that is truly unlimited, I used almost 500 GB last month, but I need another plan for when AT&T isn't working, Verizon preferably.
Here is our scenario: Buying land in a development that has utilities at the curb including cable internet. Want to live in a trailer while house is being built. I want to call out the cable guy and connect to cable internet from the outside coax port and to a cable modem inside. Do you have any experience with this sort of setup? Can you run cable internet through the coax connections on today's travel trailers? If you know I sure would appreciate an answer.
No, thus the cheaper price point. That being said, I would say that your money is better spent on a WeBoost. Finding good Campground wifi is pretty hard. The only way I would suggest the wifi range extender is if you're staying at campgrounds that promise fast wifi. The only problem is that they are few and far between. 6 months on the road and we have only had one camping spot where we didn't have a 4G connection.
So it has been a year since you put out the video on connecting to the internet. Do you still have the same recommendations on Verizon hotspot, weboost, and tmobile? My wife and I are just starting our RV journey.
Yes, my recommendation would be the same. We had no issues with the setup at all. You will have a few dead spots when in the desert out west from time to time, but you would have that even if you were using At&t as well.
Very helpful video guys. We switched last month to T-Mobile after having zero service on a trip to Maine. Your experience with campground WiFi is exactly the same as us. Question - what are there advantages to using the Verizon hotspot device next to the weBoost rather than leaving the SIM in one of the phones and using it's hotspot function? I have an S8 with T-Mobiles 10gb 4g lte hotspot plan and it's getting 30-40mb/s down from most towers. Binge On works great. Thanks for all you do and share.
Depending 9n the Hotspot device you have, the wifi connection from the Hotspot device to your laptop or other devices can be much better than the phone's. But if your connections are good, there's really no reason to switch out a phone for a Hotspot device. We use our Verizon phone half the time and then switch to the Hotspot device. One other consideration is the battery. The one in the Hotspot can be replaced for $20 or so, but most new phones have a built in battery that can't be replaced. Using the phone for tethering had a big impact 9n the battery, even if it is plugged in all the time. The battery cell in the phone will wear out a lot sooner than it should, shortening the life span of the phone.
We have gotten pretty remote at times, but reception can get pretty bad even when you're only 5-10 miles off the main path. We are in the hills outside of San Diego right now and there's absolutely no service at all.
We've just started Living on the road and we was hoping that your advice would be helpful. When it came to the part where you get your data from a device that no one can purchase anymore that was the end of me watching your video. Why show something no one else can get?
Sorry about that. The reason we show it is because there are times when offers like that pop up. It's good to be aware of that fact so that you can be on the lookout.
30 years ago if you predicted that families would spend thousands of dollars for their children to play games and own 6 cellphones, 6 iPads, 6 MacBook Airs (or competitors) with no one speaking to anyone except on the iPhones and constantly staring at their devices and walking into telephone poles....
It can be a problem. Most of the technology in the house is used by me (Nick) since I'm a tech journalist and have to use it or review it for work. Our girls actually get very little phone or tablet time, maybe only 30 minutes a day. I'm very aware of the screen time issue since I live it each day for work.
BizzyGal405 There is also a serious downside as children become addicted to their smartphones, games and doing really stupid things on them. Devices have become the new hypnotic replacing televisions of past eras. Some will use them to get ahead while others will be sheep useful for selling more devices and games.

If you are one of the many thousands of folks who pay by the gig for cellular data...you learn to get by on as little as a gig per month. I usually use three gigs/month. I now believe we may be subsidizing those who use so darn much data. I think the time has come to conserve...
Since my day job is to report about the mobile industry, I can say that service providers aren't hurting for cash and it only costs them pennies to provide 1GB of data, yet they charge about $10 for every GB most people consume. This is why they now offer unlimited plans on TMobile and other providers where they don't regulate how much you use because it really doesn't cost them anything. The only thing they really lose is increased network congestion due to poor infrastructure that they have not upgraded in about a decade.

Excellent information. Thank you!
I teach ESL online to Chinese kids. My platform pulls around 4-8 Mbps. Would your set-up be sufficient? TIA!
Most definitely.
@@TheGrayAdventures Thanks!
How remote do you get? Distance from campgrounds, cites, and starbucks...?
We have gotten pretty remote at times, but reception can get pretty bad even when you're only 5-10 miles off the main path. We are in the hills outside of San Diego right now and there's absolutely no service at all.
How much is this set up monthly
We've just started Living on the road and we was hoping that your advice would be helpful. When it came to the part where you get your data from a device that no one can purchase anymore that was the end of me watching your video. Why show something no one else can get?
Sorry about that. The reason we show it is because there are times when offers like that pop up. It's good to be aware of that fact so that you can be on the lookout.
I recently bought a Verizon hotspot from EBay. For 70 dollars a month I get unlimited data prepaid and if I set up autopay it is only 65 dollars.
Off grid.. Sorry for the typo typing too fast hopefully you understand what I'm asking
Holy crap ba baba
use starlink internet
If it was around when we were traveling we would have.
Can you use gaming consoles with it
With the WeBoost? Yes, as long as you have a Hotspot device set up with it. Gaming over a cellular connection isn't ideal, but it can be done.
I'm very aware of the screen time issue since I live it each day for work.
its how things are going. If you deny your children access to all of these new technologies they will be left behind.
BizzyGal405 There is also a serious downside as children become addicted to their smartphones, games and doing really stupid things on them. Devices have become the new hypnotic replacing televisions of past eras. Some will use them to get ahead while others will be sheep useful for selling more devices and games.
Thats true@@jackrodgersjr ... Parenting aint easy!!
Can I be hard wired in an RV?
Which device?
@@TheGrayAdventures My PC. I need to be hard wired to the internet for work and before I try and buy an RV I need to know if it is possible to do and how. I'm going back to the RV park today to see how it can be done.
Any specific reason you need it to be hardwired? Most RV parks do not offer hardwire internet connections. In the year that we've been on the road, we only came across one that did.
@@TheGrayAdventures I have a work from home job. I went back to the RV park today and they confirmed I can do it. So far I have two locations here in TX that will let me hard wire to the internet.
@@TheGrayAdventures I have to arranged that with my own isp tho. But I thank you for your help🌷
Only $120 a month....i pay $10 now so that's not a little difference
Try RV-4G.com it's cheap and completely unlimited for pretty cheap
