- This very nice, and very expensive turbine-powered RC model helicopter was flown for the first time at the November 2010 Jet meeting in Tokoroa.
After some tweaking and trimming, it flew very well. - Спорт
It’s so nice to see a helicopter being flown like a helicopter actually flies - instead of these ridiculous “3D” models that are flown upside down and doing acrobatics that no human body or machine could ever do in real life. Much respect to this guy for building a beautiful model and flying it right.

Just gonna leave that there.
Very impressive scale work. Without the people walking through the frame, you couldn't tell it was a model.
A very little, little bird. Just Fantastic.
Impressive replica, great to see turbine powered model and full five blade rotor system on a model. Well done to the builder !!! and the RC pilot
Don't know how I missed this older video, but glad to see it. It is a beautiful helicopter and seems to fly quite nicely. A lot of work went into building that helicopter. Very well done.
props for actually flying it around....most people just do some B.S. hovering with models this expensive.....BRAVO!!
I like how the heli waited politely for the plane to take off. A+ video... and by the way, that is one heck of a bird.
Beautiful work, and dedication. Attention to Detail is always important. Congratulations. How many of us can only Dream of such pleasures?
Well done.
Incluse details of Rivers, wonderful model RC, congratulations .
Rivets
Dude, you almost can get into this heli... Great job!!!!
Luv the chopper's registration - 041OE
"Oh for one naughty" - LOL
Fantastic, what an awesome piece of engineering, superb flying skills, must be like trying to balance marble on point of a pencil.
Lovely helicopter. Looks beautiful in the air. Bit expensive but looks way better in the air then a drone. Believe that chopper can lift a lot too. Good job! :)
maybe only 5 to 10 lbs
THAT RITE THERE WAS SOME AWESOME FLYING! ONE NICE BIRD!
Those Hughes 500's just have a hell of a charming shape, don't they?
MORE THAN WORTHY of being Blown Up by AIRWOLF !!! It's Beautiful !!!!
nice its not often you see 500E rc turbines on youtube with the proper main and tail rotor setup. mostly i see ones with 2 blade mains and tails when 5 blade mains and 4 blade tails looks more scale and probably flys more like a fullsize 500E.
Absolutely fantastic helicopter. Congratulations!! Unfortunately we couldn't understand a single word when the pilot spoke at the end of the video. It would be interesting to know more about this fantastic little machiner!!!
I used to build and fly model helis, I still have 5 ready to go and one junk heli that needs parts (hard to find). I never did turbine, the most popular turbine engine at the time, I think, was the Wren 44 which cost around $5000 USD back in 2012 or 2013. I opted to stick with the electric which costs under $200 for a motor.
excellent flight control and design
awesome heli , nice build
Major effort to bring to flight Iam sure, with few of us to give it a try...Many thanks enjoyed..
Awesome,, just like the real thing but harder to fly no doubt !!!! Well done, I want one
Really nice video! You are a fantastic Pilot Enjoyed the flying! Marseilles, IL
Veeeery cool and turbine-powered, at that! Ought to be for the money, eh? {chuckle} A prime example of why I knoooow better than to get into such an "addiction" as r/c (I've too many irons in the fire as it is! LOL)! Always enjoyable vids, though, especially with the preflight prep and interviews. A nice way to enjoy my Sunday morning coffee! ;)
This is so cool, but is so far out of my price range! I would love to build a nice BlackHawk, throughout the course of my R/C escapades, and use it for filming some cool R/C Adventures. Thumbs up!
Gn
that's amazing.......it looks so real and perfect
You need to put a camera in that baby. awesome flying and coptor.
RIP Brett.. You built and flew wonderful helicopters
Part of the thrill you get when RC flying is from the fear that you might crash! Especially after you land it in one piece - you get a sensation as if you want to high five yourself!
Without fail every time. 8 years later I hope like I, you still get that feeling. Blue skies
Wonderful! Theodore "T.C" Calvin would definitely approve.
Hey Bret nice flying
@xjet
Whuff..! That's a SERIOUS Heligocopter Fantasy !
It's good it has a Civilian paint-job.. My old boss at Helicopter Promotions, Rosemary Arnold-Harris, was aboard the first Civilian Turbine Chopper (Hughes 500) on it's First US Transcontinental Flight... She had happy memories of the H-500... We flew an Enstrom F-28c, so maybe she had Turbine-Envy ?
Ciao.
I wish I were that hamster lol that would be awesome. I've flown in a civilian helo and its like a magic carpet ride.
A GoPro on it somewhere and you'd get the best bird eye view ever :) sooooooooo cool :) I want one :)
melvic4 you don't need to spend very much at all on an rc aircraft just to carry a gopro
wow the filming style hasn't changed a bit :D
"i was having a good day with the R/C club, at the airfield, then I took a chopper blade to the knee..." :-/ All kidding aside, pretty amazing- great design detail, loads of power, so fast... very impressive !
That thing does fly nice.
Looks and sounds awesome
Wow that's an amazing ,well done......
@happyhouse152 That's so fast and stables, i love this one.
Awesome Heli
Great flight
Obviously I'd love to have one, for now my Trex 600E in a AS 350 fuselage will do.
Congrats !
Tokoroa? LOL that ain't too far from my neck o' the woods =^.^=
Nice heli, by the way.
Boy, you could do a gross cartons of eggs with that beater! Nice!
I remember back in the 60,s I saw a bell Heli,in the window of the hobby shop, about that size,I thought that was pretty cool. For the time It was probaly pretty advanced for the time,I could be wrong.
Nice Helicopter!
bu helikopter muhteşem idare edenlerde çok güzel kumanda ediyorlar tebrikler
only fools would condem such a creativity, period.
That thing is beautiful!
@johnken62 Depends on how realistic you want it to look and many other things like radio gear and flybar controller. Could be between $13000-20000NZD
looks stunning...!
That is pretty neat!
the jet engine is not providing the thrust, it is only making the rotors turn, so the tilt of the blades IS actually what makes it move.
@shooteraod
This is a Vario Hughes 500E powered by a Jetcat PHT3.
Research about vario and have a look at the other helicopters they have.
This sort of model would cost upwards of $15000 with high quality equipment
My personal opinion, this is the most sexy heli ever.
that is a sweet model!
It looks easy to fly.Maybe I'll get one.
Think I should get some experience before taking off?
Like I said, he made it look very easy!
What a Sweet Bonza little machine!
Who the hell would click the thumbs down button??
hastasıyım bu makinelerin... :)
looks amazing
Very impressive.
Nice job
So thats what I look like on video? Thanks for posting this. I didnt really get a chance to see the heli flying as I was too busy stiring the sticks! What a buzz to fly. Cheers to Colin (the owner) for building this project.... Skycrane next.....?
My favorite helicopter .awesome
Very Nice WORK!!
So awesome this thing probably cost as much as my truck so I don't imagine I'll be getting a jet helicopter anytime soon, that's sad too I want one just like this I recently learned how to fly 1 so I really want one bad now
Needs the Magnum theme tune on this video. There was one of these in that show : )
skilfully flown
Geez i wish my budget was as big as u guys
yery nice, good flight
Nice helicopter..I like this
Just like the real thing! Only smaller!
Little Bird - Like a BOSS!
tres belle maquette!
very nice , thanks
I am currently building a 50 sized Century Mechanics, Hughes 500D Scale Helicopter. Nitro fuel....I would love to put a turbine in it......but my club won't allow them. It is an AWESOME hobby!!!!! ( but VERY, VERY EXPENSIVE)
You made it bearable.
@kelsehoffman UH-1 is the original huey. Blackhawks at UH-60
Nice work
Love it!!! Look like its real!
It's just a RC helicopter, Chill. Those are around since the 80ties...
@ Xjet Nice model and nice video!
IMHO one of the sexiest Helicopters flying today , I'd like to know what gearbox your driving the shaft through or are you doing a turboprop style with the exhaust driving the rotor gearbox ?
very beautiful toy
very nice i would love to have one of these.
a very smart baby could have real fun in this
Would really love to build a 50 scale "Huey UH- 1D Iriqois".... fully detailed....YEESSSSS!!!
Beautiful
Thats a wery nice helicopter you got there, would be a ssshame if something were to happen to it.
pardon me but thats the newer hughes 530 E my freind the nose being slightly pointed is the giveaway the 500 or OH 64 aka the killer egg had the solid round front this is the newer version and quite awesome i might add exellent work!!
Killer stuff....wow !
Wow that is cool
And Golf Buddy that is mean WOW THAT COPTER IS AWESOME I WANT ONE!!!!!!
manjunk427 is right!
Epic to see this one flying.
So many vids are of "warm-ups" and "servo test" etc...
They should put two cats in the front seat as passengers..LOL!
Hey,I have the exact same type helicopter with the same paint-job. But it's electric and much smaller of course, since it's electric!:)
It's wonderfull
Did you buy it or built it?
That thing could lift a baby!
Very cool. Do you have to use a 3-axis gyro on that since it's flybarless? Or is the 5 blades enough that you can just use a tail gyro?
Spelled "Mcdonnell" Douglas wrong on the door lol..
Other than that..Sickest RC turbine MD500E i've seen in my life.
YEAH!! ANOTHER KIWI FLYER!!!! ...finally
The MD 500 was developed from the Hughes 500, a civilian version of the US Army's OH-6A Cayuse/Loach. The series currently includes the MD 500E, MD 520N, and MD 530F. The MD 500E (369E) is the Executive version of the 500D with recontoured nose, Certified in 1982. The MD 530F (369F) Hot and high version of the 500E powered by an Allison 250-C30B rated at 650 shp (485 kW), certififed in 1985. The shapes are the same, the insides are different.
