Hitchhiking - that’s how I met my wife! I was bored one winters day in cold cold Winnipeg, couldn’t wait for spring. Two other other male friends and I decided to stage a hitchhiking race to Fargo, North Dakota, about 150 miles away. We had to take backroads only, not freeways. Then we realized we needed some girls to join us, in order to appear more harmless to the potential drivers. We rounded up two girls we knew, and one of them had a roommate who said she would come along. We drew straws to see who would join who, in three guy/girl pairs, and dropped ourselves off a mile apart. We met truck drivers, cowboys, good hearted country folk who joined in the spirit of the fun, as first one couple, then the next, took the lead. That evening we all went out for some dining and dancing, and I met the third girl. We were married about a year after that.
His message really touched me. I'm afraid of rejection, feel uncomfortable to communicate with strengers and not adabtable to change. Thanks for the msg.
I were same as you 6months ago but i take up the challenge to talk to strangers and man i can say that the experience was simply amazing, i have now lot of friends. So do take actions
For women, hitchhiking may not always be a good idea. The cost refers more to safety I guess, but anything that is risky is getting out of your comfort zone.
I have been using couchsurfing for the past 4 years, I hitchhiked everywhere. You learn how to know if your life is in danger or not, so do it, cause it's the best experience I have. Hitchhiking, couchsurfing, ... are amazing experiences
Interesting story. What is more interesting is the fact that he was philosophical about his experiences and he learnt the most from this. I wouldn't do what he did, though.
I won’t travel without money because I love 5 stars hotels :) but it’s a good lesson about how to deal with rejection and how to be grateful for the simple things we have in life that we take for granted most of time.
@@mohtashimrazi1642 I'm not reach but I work hard to get what I want ;) And I can afford to go in 5* hotels because I benefit from wholesale prices through a private travel club membership affordable to everyone. Having acces to the right deals helps a lot ;)

All Edourd`s insights were totally resonated in my heart and I really amazed his fearlessness, courage and his trust to stranges. And, of course, I will not be able to make the same travel even for 3 days as for me it is not reachebale
Nice bro it's difficult to travel without many. When some time i travell and mobile switch off then i realise, face to many difficulties and you travel country it's so dangerous I appreciate you courage
Ive been wanting to do this for a long time, but Ive been holding back. But, I think that before the weather gets cold, Ill want to hitchhike across Canada -- From Toronto to Newfoundland. I have friends in Nova Scotia and I've been wanting to visit them, but going on an adventure this way sounds WAY more interesting!! I just have to quit my job for the time being and just go! Geez, great idea. I cant wait! I think ill do it in November, give them a bit of a notice :) :)
You're taking a big risks quitting your job. Unless you are making income thru alternative means. How could you be with a sound mind knowing you have no money coming in or even worst coming from travels with no job to fall back on. Where you are maybe is it easy to just find another job or maybe you have advanced degrees or some major skills most don't. I still wish you luck on your endeavors. Do what you feel.
How do you make sure you stay safe when hitchhiking?? I'm a girl, and I've heard so many horror stories about hitchhiking, I'm not sure if I'd feel safe doing it.
Honestly as a girl everything is so different. It's sad that it's that way but it's just the reality of life I guess. It's better to do it with hosts. I think you will meet lots of great people who will not do you any harm for sure if you compare it to random people out on the street.
I've hitchiked for 6 years in the USA and all I can say for you girls that want to know how to stay save is bring a dog. I've met 100s of solo female travelers and they always had a dog
I wouldn't do it. I am not scared of rejection, I am scared of rapists ... But that's just me. I'd rather travel by bike with very little money. I grew up in poverty too so I don't feel the need for that challenge.
I would be horrified, this idea of travelling alone is so difficult and alien to me, talk about sleeping at unknown people's houses, hitchhiking, but now I wish I were a guy so maybe my safety points will increase.
@@tanmayik2397 life can be unsafe for either gender, while yes it seems scarier as woman, if you think about it, this guy sleeping in a strangers home is just as vulnerable as a woman sleeping in a strangers home. in the end its really about the courage to do it because bad things can come and get you whether youre doing everything in your life safely or going out on a limb following your dreams
traveling without money is a totally wrong atitude, as shareing is careing. a present and some bugs go a long way. While it isn't how I would ever travel and I think to do it with zero money is a bit much I think the idea that only people with money should be allowed to do things is a horrible one.
@@psiico24 it's not really about needing massive sums of cash or being rich. It's about you bearing the burden of your travels not somebody else. communication is everything.
Nothing, absolutely nothing replaces the experiences you earn while you travel to know and to be with people.
communication is everything.

I agree. Some countries are even worst than others to women.

MsMonique Love totally agree!
Thank u very much Edward for sharing yr most valuable lesson: Rejection vs. Reaction!
Man as a woman I wish it were that easy, I would only ever feel safe taking a couch from another female.
I guess it also works the other way: you'll probably have more chance asking women a couch than him...
Use the couch surfing instead?

No, he's from the UE and the country he visited also, so no VISA :)
