Great exercise very well explained thank you .In my modest opinion it really help to play in the upper register in a relaxed way I saw Booby Shew teaching the same concept Once again thank you
Have you ever measured the pressure you can create? I can compress my air up to 3,5 p.s.i. but getting beyond an Eb or E over high C is still difficult.
Hi, Thanks. Ok that's an interesting suggestion; I can certainly make a video/s around that subject, but I must admit I place very little significance on the shape/look of the outer lips (which is what most people mean by embouchure) and, as long as that element is kept as relaxed as possible, its really what's happening inside that matters. I'll have think how best to present my ideas. Cheers
@@trumpetbrain7302 I am interested on this, because I realize that sometimes there is a huge difference when I place my mp in a way or another, in terms of range, endurance and ease of playing. In my experience, I have been playing with a "natural" embouchure for many years and with many issues, trying to improve my playing through air, buzzing, flexibilities, etc, but it helped me very little, until one day I began to experiment different ways of shaping my embouchure (and mp placement) and all of a sudden everything became so easy to do, like having found the holy grail of trumpet :-) being able to play tirelessly and with more range and the best of all: not having to think about any other consideration as air, pressure, relaxation etc. The problem is that it didn't last, so I am confused and trying to find out what happened, that's why I am investigating this subject. thanks for your answer and for sharing your knowledge! cheers!
I really like your videos, i check every month if you post a new one ! Your tips are differents from some other chain, it helps me a lot. When i practice i work with top Lips relaxed and i feel my muscle around thé corner of my nose tender/sensitive. I have the feeling that i contract them to stop my lips from sliding upwards when i increase the compression, when i try to go higher.. (when i slurs for exemple) do you have a tips for me ...? Thanks I Hope you'll continue the videos !
Hi, Thanks very much. As for your question; its hard to tell without seeing in person. Remember that, whilst there will need to be a subtle amount of facial engagement simply to stop the lips blowing apart, this muscular activity really needn't be too significant; the best players who play high all night don't have lip muscles 100x stronger than anyone else, they simply play more efficiently. Hope that is some help. Thanks, Alex
Hi Filippo, Not in a way that I think anyone would like to listen to... From a technical perspective I know a bunch of players who could physically play all the notes on the Bb trumpet (and with some time and energy I probably could too) but the style of the music demands a beautiful floating lightness that is difficult enough to achieve on the Piccolo, and I certainly couldn't play it musically without the small trumpet. To put it another way: I'm sure Wayne Bergeron could play a ridiculously accurate and clean rendition on the Bb, but I'm also sure he would freely admit it wouldn't have the authentic lightness akin to a virtuosic soprano. Maybe I'll put a couple of clips messing around on it over on the Facebook page. Thanks Alex
@@trumpetbrain7302 thank you for the technical explanation. I asked that because I admire your easiness in playing the trumpet in the high range. Have a nice day. (I don't know if my English is right)
Maaan how you play soo effortlessly? I'm serious! You sound very good!

I think you use a different mouthpiece for every video. A man after my own heart! ;)
Very well spotted Nick! More on that subject to come...

hi and thanks for your videos. I'd like to know your thoughts on 'embouchure', do you think it would be nice to make a video on this subject?

Hi Alex, can you play "queen of the night" (piccolo) with your large Bb trumpet? Or it's too much to ask?
