I did yet another 'No Death' just two days ago! Why is this game one of the easiest NES games I've ever played? Difficulty-wise, this is right up there with MM2. Super C is harder, for sure. I've only done it once on that one (and cause of Level 6!).
True and every NES Fans like me should remember this..I played this with my classmate in my kindergarten years..he was the one who introduced me to playing video games..and I've been very thankful for him
Me and cousin playing this back in '90- Me: "I'm getting the spread gun." Cousin: "No, I want it. You always get the spread gun and leave me with the stupid laser." Me: "Every time you get the spread gun you always die right after and lose it anyway." Cousin: "No I don't!" Me: "Fine, you can have it if it shuts you up." Just as he gets it, he falls into a pit.
I can sum this game up in 2 ways, It has the action and intensity of Rambo and the thrill and adrenaline of Die Hard, Contra is truly a masterpiece that I appreciate every second of.
Matthew Drake Contra IS a masterpiece bro. But I would say that Contra is like a combination of Rambo, Alien and Predator. Besides, Bill and Lance are drawn in the likeness of Stallone and Schwarzenegger.
i played only once and Havent played since 1988, just finished it within 45 mins. Shocking how short the game is, but boy is it good, challenging yet fair. Lots of memorization in this game to not get hit. Crossed it off the bucketlist, now on to Mike Tyson's Punchout!!!
I feel sorry that nobody tipped you off to the contra code as a kid...with three continues, at 30 men a pop, that’s 90 lives, which should be more than enough for anyone to get through the game.
More classic than Back to the future(the movie of course) this game is one of the best NES games ever made. The difficulty is insane and with two players it just gets double insane. Trying to keep up with each others moves is more challenging than dodge the 1 billion bullets flying around. Very good graphics (especially that "3D" perspective) and music, one of the best games ever made. My rate: 20/20. PS: DO NOT LOSE SPREAD.

In the English release, the leader of Red Falcon was identified as such. Due to this, Konami canonically change the name of the alien leader from" Emperor Demon Dragon God Java" to Red Falcon in the English release for sequel titles. Honest Red Falcon sounds better than that other shit.

First time beating it LEGIT today. Last continue with 2 lives left. Took all day with lots of game overs(most coming in the Snow or Hangar) but it's done. Checked off the list. Flamethrower(w/ "R" powerup) got me through half the hangar and all the way to the Alien queen.

I remember watching my dad beat this game all the time when I was a kid. He never used the Konami code, he never knew it but he didn't need it. He would always beat it the Spread Gun. It wasn't until I tried playing this for myself that I knew why he always chose to keep the Spread Gun. You need it.
This game was the death of me for so long.... but so were all the other near impossible to beat NES games. I swear I would have a nervous breakdown every other day when I couldnt beat a game or level 😂
Pikachu7586 VGCP they are actually 7, but once you have the "S", you don't need the others also if you want to get more lives you just stay a while on an easy part killing those guys and soon you'll get extra lives.
My older brother and sister STILL remember the Contra trick. lol. Plus, gamers of the 2000s to 2010s wouldn't last 3 seconds with games like this, since they spend 18 hours a day playing Call of Duty on the 360.
My four brothers and two cousins would sit around on Saturday mornings and play this game (and others). Each taking turns to see who could get the highest score.
