I've tried all kinds of clumsy mash-ups to solve this problem. They've all ended mostly with twisted hairsprings. I guess it's old age (or worse), but my brain can't come up with simple answers to these problems. If you'd made this video two weeks ago it would have saved me $40 on a hairspring support stand from China. No one but Fabio makes such straightforward informative videos like this. Thanks, as always for sharing.
Thanks Chris, can't remember when I put these two objects together. I think it was kind of an accident. But, it has been working well. very useful for hairspring work.
I have one! Would love to see you do more with correcting balance spring issues and beat errors on vintage watches where you need to turn the collet. Ta Fabio!
Hey, thanks Tony. yes I made a few of these stumps in watchmaking school back in 2011. Maybe ill make a few more videos about what I use the other size stumps for.thanks for the complimentary reply. I'm very surprized with all the positive feed back. cheers!!
I took a pointy piece of pegwood and stuck it down into one of the holes of the anvil. It worked great. I like that plastic bushing thingie you use for a support. What is that exactly?. Oh, btw, something I have had trouble with on several hairsprings is twisted collets. The collets become tilted and then when the hairspring is installed on the staff, the hairspring is tilted. What is the best way to straighten a collet?. Is there a procedure that makes it easier?. See what I mean?. This video gave me a good idea for a balance support. Thanks
That look like an awesome idea! I have seen the chines versions of this but down't wanna buy it. What are the dimensions? I ma sure I can rummage something in my garage to be the right size. Piece of an old cutting board and a plug cutter? maybe! Thanks for sharing. (PS Now my wife's gonna be mad that my UA-cam has ANOTHER watch channel sub *sigh** it's worth it.
Great tip. Thanks !

It’s just a piece of plastic with a hole drilled into it half way. Should be able to use a staking set or horia tool to level out the collet.
