Good tip about the clean before the first burn

Hi asjeot, Thanks for taking the time to watch and to comment. Yeah, that was a lesson learned and I have tried some serious scrubbing with Barkeeper's friend to remove it and nothing is getting it done. I'll have to probably use some stronger abrasives and tools and then polish afterwards to get it clean. It's a great fire pit though all around.

Can I add wood that is not split? I had a couple of trees come down and have cut them up, but don't plan on splitting.

      Hi @bernlitzer2739
      Thanks for your question.
It is remarkable what you can burn in these fire pits but I would make sure you have a well burning and hot base of coals prior to adding unsplit wood. And if it fits in the pit you will likely be good to go if you are ok with a slower burning fire. You also may need to add some smaller split pieces periodically.
      Have a great Thanksgiving week!

Your top ring is warped pretty bad. Is there a trick you would recommend for that not to happen?

Hey Mr. Sandite. Thanks for taking the time to reply and for your question. Yes, my top ring is warped pretty bad. Though, in spite of that, it still snaps down into place properly on the top of the fire pit. It does not sit warped--it correctly seats itself onto the top. We have run the fire pit rather hot on a couple of occasions to see how it handled the heat overall. I don't know for certain that is the reason for the warping but could have contributed to it. Thanks again for reaching out. Hope you have a great week!

That's BS you clearly should still dump that remaining stuff at the bottom. That's a lot of crap down there, don't kid yourself. And that is normal. I've used this new version half a dozen times already.
It is easier to clean for sure. I bought the v1 and returned it as soon as the v2 was announced.

Hi Watsit Tooyah. Thanks for taking the time to watch as well as sharing your thoughts about these new SOLO stoves v2. As you mention, it is definitely easier to clean. In a perfect world I would recommend dumping out the residual ash that escapes the ash pan. I don't disagree with you. But the majority of people, in my experience, want ease and convenience more than they want the perfect set up. If you never dump out that extra ash it may diminish the efficiency of the fire pit over time (maybe 10+ fires). But I think you'll still get a near 100% experience even if you don't dump it each time. And you'll save yourself the hassle of flipping it over and shaking it out. This is what SOLO stove is aiming at. I use a Camp Chef pellet grill because it is about the only one that has an "easy" clean out method for all of the ash in the fire pit. That doesn't mean I never have to do a full clean but I can go 10x longer than with my old Green Mountain grill or a Traeger before I have to really spend the time to pull it all apart and shop vac it out.

I spent quite a bit of money on V1. Very disappointed on how difficult it is to clean. Not about to shell out cash for V2. Definitely have buyer’s remorse. Stuck with V1.

B.S. 'review' to get you to use his referral link to buy. Over half the video has NOTHING to do with 'the 2.0 review' and even the first part- the original took less time AND the new version there is still crap left behind that WILL need to be turned over & shaken, and eventually hosed out- just like the orig. So NO- there is no point to the new version- much like this video- a money grab.

Hi Josh, Thanks for taking the time to watch our video even though you have plenty of concerns about it. We appreciate you making an effort to offer some feedback as well.
As you note, the 2.0 version doesn't necessarily take less time to clean out--and may even take longer. But for many people it simply isn't an option to just pick up the original version, flip it over and shake it vigorously--which is what is required. The version 2.0 allows people with limited strength or mobility to have a simple method for cleaning their fire pit. And even for those who are physically able to clean it the old way, this new version offers a far more refined way to clean. Yes, there is a little bit of ash left after removing the ash pan but it is minimal and can be removed after a number of fires by rolling it onto its side. Without the grate in the way the ash will fall out quite easily.
Yes, we are able to make a couple bucks when someone chooses to use our affiliate links to make a purchase. But as you might imagine from our videos themselves, we are not UA-cam sensations driving lime green Lambo's around. We are simple, everyday folks who enjoy trying to provide some information to help people in their decision-making. We realize what we provide will be more helpful for some than for others.
Again, thanks for taking the time to watch and to write. Hope you're having a great week!

I had the original and now the 2.0. Your comments are ignorant. I can clean the 2.0 much easier because the first plate (with the holes) is removable. The ash pan is an added bonus.
On camping trips and at the house it's much easier to get rid of the ashes and much more convenient.
Yes of course a little residue is left behind but nothing that would stop me from using it again.
