@8:51 dude you left out Michelles italian restraunt? West Coast' oldest Italian place and home of all things old school Hollywood...I've sat at Lucy and Desi',Dean Martins table etc and so much more...sooo many times....So much history there....Amazing place...
For my taste, Hollywood Boulevard is grimy, low-class, and aggravating enough to be designated a Hall of Shame, more than anything else. For the international tourists who are into collecting certain traveling trophies like ‘been there, done that’ it might be worth a 5-minute visit, during the daytime hours. But whatever you do, do NOT walk the Hollywood Boulevard at night,; especially if you’re a tourist, or you’ll be hassled like crazy, or possibly even take your life in your hands. Chris, your presentational enthusiasm and charm make even the grimiest of all places look like interesting destinations to visit. 😀
Concur with all! And yes. I can find the interesting side of any place. But yeah. . I say park at Hollywood and Highland.. explore the mall and that one block.. then head off
Great video and very informative, loved that you took the time to show us around the boulevard and the area and not just ta couple of the usual most popular tourist attractions. Thank you! I noticed that the pavements and the roads are in desperate need of maintenance and of course all these homeless people living on the street or in tents in one of the most famous and touristy roads in the world. It's surprising how the municipality and the relevant authorities in general have left this place so unattended, shame.
My old stomping grounds! I grew up in Hollywood. Spent my days watching movies in the Hollywood Blvd theaters including the Chinese and the Egyptian. The Chinese sure has changed. And not for the better. I remember when it had a box office out front! Ah it;s been a while since I've seen the street beggars and the people talking to themselves, lol. Every time I go there the Egyotian seems to be under construction. I waited 3 hours in line in 1980 to see Empire Strikes Back. I used to stop off at the Cahuenga news stand to buy comics and Starlog magazine when I was a kid. Nice to see the old grungy neighborhood again Chris! It may not be pretty but I have some good memories growing up there.
as much as i loved the Boulevard, it was sincerely tarnished by how MANY tourists were there when we visited, as well, we litterally Saw someone get stabbed right at the Metro station waiting for the bus back to the hotel, i feel Everything surrounding that strip was Waaay waaay more under rated and Better to checkout, better food, better prices, etc. Tho, the strip is worth visiting at least once. Great coverage dude!! hope ta see you back in canada soon Dude!
This was quite a great tour of Hollywood Blvd and the Walk of Fame! It was really interesting to see what it actually looked like. Overall, with the exception of a few sights, it does not look that appealing to me. It definitely feels very touristy in many areas, and I know there are a lot more appealing and awesome areas to explore in LA when I've watched the other walking tours. Thanks for the tour! I enjoyed watching this one!
Yeah.. thats why so many locals tell tourists to skip Hollywood Blvd. But its one of those checkmark destinations. You HAVE to visit it.. you just don't have to stay long :)
Sadly, Hollywood deserved to have become a wasteland, instead of a societal magnet. In the mid 80's, I stayed at The Mark Twain Hotel and also The Hotel Gilbert. Both were ratholes, but cheap ones at least. But I had to open the room's door with a popsicle stick because they didn't have any key for them. Those were the hotels the welfare office in Glendale would send me to with a nightly voucher because I was homeless, and they wanted to get rid of me. Anyways, one day I walked down Hollywood Blvd. to get something to eat, and I saw a young girl, about age 14, getting carried away by a group of about 8 gang members. She had a very worried look on her face. Me and her made eye contact. She was about 20 feet away from where I was. Her eyes were pleading with me. She couldn't walk or talk. She was silent, and limp. She had probably been given a date r@pe drug at the Greyhound bus station right down the street on Vine. That was all happening at the intersection of Hollywood and Vine. Well, since there was hundreds of business people on the street who had just gotten off work at the time. I grew very bold and yelled, "Hey look! They're kidnapping that young girl, let's save her!". I honestly thought that a group of strong men would back skinny-little-ole me up, too. Instead, lots of people turned their heads and saw what was happening, then they just turned and went on their way again. One of the gang members pulled out a pistol and walked right up to me pointing it at my head. He stood 5 feet in front of me and then he said, "I could shoot you dead and nobody would do anything fool! Better you turn and walk away before I do it too!" By that time the rest of the guys had disappeared down the block and then around a corner. There was zero I could do but turn and slowly walk away, hoping the angry guy didn't shoot me in the back. Another time before that happened, two guys robbed me in broad daylight on Hollywood Blvd. One guy grabbed my arms and the other guy went through my pockets. I was defenseless, they were huge angry guys. I only had a dollar and forty cents on me, just enough to afford a hamburger and fries at the corner deli. They laughed and let me keep it. But they did tear up my driver's license that was in my wallet. They told me that anyone that broke wasn't even an American. Then they pulled out wads of cash and flashed it in my face as they threw my wallet on the ground laughing at me. Yes, Hollywood deserved to become a wasteland instead of a magnet for poor innocent runaway girls, or a spot to dump people wanting a welfare check so they wouldn't have to be homeless long before being homeless got to be so common a thing. I often wonder what ever happened to that poor girl. They probably hooked her on drugs and sold her at will... every single day they could. Well, after they had sexually abused her into broken-spirited compliance first. And that was back in the 80's when Hollywood was just a little bit dangerous. Those streets used to be mostly teaming with regular normal people until the sun went down. Businesses were all thriving too. Well, thanks for letting me share all that. "Maine" says "hello".
Hi Chris. Thanks for the walking.I agree that many tourist go see the other parts of the Walk of Fame. I was surprised that when you walk away from the tourist area, it tends to get a little sketchy. Love the architecture of the area.
Have you visited the new Amoeba Music Chris? I only managed to visit the old site just the once on my LA holiday in 2019, was sad to hear they had to move.
Amoeba moved because they sold the building and made millions of dollars. Nothing sad about it. Now they are on Hollywood Blvd and Argyle next to the subway station. Smaller store.

Hi Chris. Thank you so much for sharing. A few years back, way before Covid, we went to Hollywood because we signed up for free tickets to watch America’s Got Talent and we stayed at Loews. It was kind of dirty in Hollywood with trash spew on the streets. It was also so sad to see so many homeless. We enquired and waited for our AGT tickets-and nothing. Next day, we checked out of the hotel and drove home. Three hours after we got home, we got an email to come pick up our tickets. 🙄🤷🏽♀️ So we just went to a Ramen shop in our area, which was more enjoyable than our entire trip to Hollywood.
I am heading to Los Angeles tomorrow. I am so glad I came across your video. And the best part is it is only a week old. You are excellent at giving us introduction to different places. Great walk Chris. We were in Hollywood in 2014. Remember the Chinese Theatre & Dolby Theatre. We did one of this open air hop on hop off tours. Stayed just of the blvd in a nice apartment. The street with Starbucks on the corner near Wax Museum. Also been to Ripleys was great. Coming to LA next August. Will watch more videos to see what I want to plan. 😊
Hi Chris! I really enjoyed this Hollywood Blvd walking tour. To me it looks like less folks then when I was last there is May. Good social distancing! Thank you so much. CAB😊
17:54 You walked right past Scum & Villainy and didn't even mention it LOL. It's a Star Wars themed Cantina similar to Oga's Cantina at Galaxy's Edge, except it's been there longer.
@@YellowProductions It's really cool, I went there while I was waiting for Galaxy's Edge to open. You can cosplay there, and they do other movies besides Star Wars, like Lord of the Rings, etc. But the theming is similar to the Star Wars Cantina. And they have themed drinks! (Their "Blue Milk" is similar to a Blue Hawaiian.)
I'm going to be staying nearby next week for a couple of days and will be exploring Hollywood Boulevard and going to a couple of films so your video is getting me excited for my trip! :)
I always love your videos. In face back in Jan 2020 we used your videos of Honolulu extensively and found the Small steak shack place on the beach that you had recommended, It was to die for and in fact we ate there many times! Thanks for the great videos. Stay safe my friend!
I know someone who has a star and I use to go decorate it for her on her birthday. I use to get there at 6am, decorate it, take a picture and leave. She died in 2018. I could not image doing it now even at 6am.
stopped a couple blocks short of my little neighborhood around Hollywood and Bronson, there's a lot of famous places on Sunset too, some were on that map at the beginning of your vid, takes me about a minute to walk over to KTLA and the Netflix buildings on Sunset.... BTW, those homeless encampments are gone, prob because everything is back open, along with the tourists
@@YellowProductions IDK about WEHO or East Hollywood, but Hollywood isn't a bad area to live in rn, at least between Sunset and Franklin/La Brea and Western, and there's a massive amount of new development going on, only reason I'm moving to the Westside, is for SM and Westwood nightlife/socializing
Wow! That is NOT how I imagined Hollywood to look like. Absolutely Shocking. It looks like it could do with a wash. I was very disappointed. But once again, Such an amazing video, extremely informative. Am Most forgot to ask, am I right to say, back in the day there was a Karate School somewhere in this street called Sherman Oaks Karate?
That karate school... didn't it have a wall of lit up windows and you could see everything inside? I seem to remember something like that maybe from the mid 60's when I was 8. The wax museum too.
Loved this video. I'm from Scotland and was over visiting a friend and his family. Stayed at the Lowes at Hollywood Highland for two weeks. Amazing time but I agree about a lot of sketchy places along Hollywood Boulevard. Don't go there expecting it to be all glitzy n glamour. Coming back to stay Downtown this time for two weeks in The Indigo. Would love to see the Downtown area this time as I spent all my time on Sunset at the Rainbow and Roxy channeling my inner 80's rocker. Looking forward to coming back this summer !!! Keeps these videos coming as its so helpful
Going to LA for my first time in November. Staying at the roosevelt hotel and plan to only explore the walk of fame one day. Seeing a movie at the Chinese theater as well and the rest, taking a tour of paramount studios (hopefully see Dr phil live), griffith observatory, lake Hollywood Park, and Santa Monica pier as well
The walk of fame looks quiet empty. My last international trip in June 2019 was a trip to Los Angeles. Tourists everywhere! And using the LA Metro is pretty good. I also took the Metro going to Santa Monica.
It really doesn't work as well.. I've tried it side by side. Lapel mic gets blown out by wind and my voice gets drowned out in super noisy environments. This headset is designed for sportscasters so it does a great job of just picking my voice and not much else
@@YellowProductions thanks for the response you do a great job with your tips and reviews buddy! I’m from uk going to Vegas for first time in jan and your vids have helped me make informed decisions
I love these walking tours that you do Chris. I’m curious do you ever feel awkward doing these especially wearing a head set? Not sure how loud you sound when you do these and if it draws attention to you.
Certainly the gimbal and the headset draw attention. But the good news about this headset microphone is I can talk at a normal conversational volume so I'm not drawing a ton of attention from sound at least. I'm used to drawing attention though so it doesn't really bother me
I enjoyed that walk.I was surprised at how less popuated it was to one I imagined. there were. Probally Covid.I would like to visit as I have a cousin in Thousand Oaks .I would love to find Judy Garland's stars. I hear she has one for film and one for music .Also her famous daughter Liza Minnelli!
I was born in Hollywood and lived there majority of my life and currently live 40 mins away. Hollywood Boulevard and Hollywood in general has become a sh*thole the past 25 years.
25 years?? Honestly, my buddies and I use to cruise around Hollywood in the 70s. It has been a dump for a lot longer than 25 years. The only difference is more homeless people but back then the street walkers and pimps were everywhere
@@mikeberg5003 my dad owned a night club across the street from the Chinese Theatre and I was a 12 year old kid running around the streets of Hollywood during the day while he was at work. That was around 1989, and it wasn't half as bad as it was now....so I'd say maybe 30 years or so.
it's getting better in just the last couple of years I've lived in my Hollywood neighborhood (got trapped here during the pandemic), and the City Council just approved a new major development plan for the first time since 1988, and there's a lot already in development, huge construction around the new Target at Sunset/Western, also around Hollywood/Western, and that Toyota dealership on Hollywood is being razed, and replaced with a brand new dealership/shopping center/apartment complex covering the entire square block
When I found myself homeless in Glendale in the 80's, they'd daily bus me to either the Mark Twain or Gilbert Hotel just off Hollywood Blvd. just to get rid of me, the riff raff who just lost his job working his ass off out in the hot sun(I did grounds keeping). I was robbed in broad daylight once, another time I witnessed a gang of about eight to ten kidnapping a young girl that looked very scared and like a runaway who they had date-rape drugged right after her getting off a Greyhound bus. I tried to get 'society' involved, there was tons of people getting off work right then, but they just looked at what I was pointing out, saw what was happening then turned the other way. WE could have easily rescued her within 20 seconds! Instead, one of the last guys in the group taking her away by force came at me pointing a pistol. He was yelling about how he could shoot me down and nobody would care. I saw it was true. I gave him my best glare, then I had to just turn and walk away too, hoping I wasn't going to get shot in the back and in broad daylight with dozens of people all around me, if not hundreds. The hotel rooms I had to seek shelter in you could open the doors with a popsicle stick, that's what they'd tell me to use because "there's no key". Hollywood is a whole different world. Maybe it's changed, I wouldn't know. My guess is that it's grown even worse.
Can’t believe you walked right past Afters Ice Cream. That place is delicious 🤤 It’s in between the CVS and Shake Shack. Check it out next time your on Hollywood Blvd!

@@TravelJack That used to be a great bar that had live music.
The Funko store would get me to LA alone 😅 huge store. I love collecting.
I'm going to be staying nearby next week for a couple of days and will be exploring Hollywood Boulevard and going to a couple of films so your video is getting me excited for my trip! :)
I was planning to see the hollywood sign from the highland center. Is therr another place nearby i can view it from??
Griffith Observatory I think is the best place to see the sign
Great video Chris. Learnt loads. Thanks
I always love your videos. In face back in Jan 2020 we used your videos of Honolulu extensively and found the Small steak shack place on the beach that you had recommended, It was to die for and in fact we ate there many times! Thanks for the great videos. Stay safe my friend!
Awesome! Thanks Orrin! Glad you enjoyed the steak shack!
Anybody mention he walks by the dude from Crashing? George Basil.
🤩🤙 Hey Chris!
Good one buddy. Wow it looks so quiet. I thought I might see more local travellers.
Locals don't go there unless they work in the area or have visitors who insist on going.
I know someone who has a star and I use to go decorate it for her on her birthday. I use to get there at 6am, decorate it, take a picture and leave. She died in 2018. I could not image doing it now even at 6am.
Perfect tour! Thanks
Thanks Randy!
stopped a couple blocks short of my little neighborhood around Hollywood and Bronson, there's a lot of famous places on Sunset too, some were on that map at the beginning of your vid, takes me about a minute to walk over to KTLA and the Netflix buildings on Sunset.... BTW, those homeless encampments are gone, prob because everything is back open, along with the tourists
Glad to hear the homeless encampment are gone!
It’s worth a drive through but a total waste of time to walk.
@@chop3625 Thank you.
Staying in Hollywood tomorrow so this was super informative and helpful! 🔥🔥🔥
I enjoyed the walking tour 👍🏽
Thanks Felisha!
Great tour
Thanks Scott!
Pretty cool!
Wow this is beautiful ❤️❤️
Wow. Really informative
Is the egyptian open now?
THANKS FOR THE TOUR
Is there a city ticket that you can buy to see the sites??
#BucketList. Thanks for preview.
I haven't been here in years, looks the same as I remember it.
Pls come to South Africa and make great videos like you do always.
Thank You For Sharing 🇺🇲
Did not know LA had a subway... and I lived in San Pedro from 1995-2000.
Yeah.. most people don't :)
Just don’t tell that LA subway is good. It sounds funny 😂😂 4-5 lines 😂
2 plus 2 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Suggestions on where they might have clean public restrooms I’m sure it’s hard with lots of homelessness to find public restrooms
Going to LA for my first time in November. Staying at the roosevelt hotel and plan to only explore the walk of fame one day. Seeing a movie at the Chinese theater as well and the rest, taking a tour of paramount studios (hopefully see Dr phil live), griffith observatory, lake Hollywood Park, and Santa Monica pier as well
Melrose/Fairfax erea, beautiful graffiti filled erea with lots of cool stores and things to do. Venice Beach and south central
The walk of fame looks quiet empty. My last international trip in June 2019 was a trip to Los Angeles. Tourists everywhere! And using the LA Metro is pretty good. I also took the Metro going to Santa Monica.
There are no international tourists. The lockdowns, govt restrictions, and riots led to many businesses permanently closing.
Can you do Pasadena?
It's on my list to do!
@@YellowProductions thanks I will definitely be watching!
It was crazy crowded when I came in 2018. It was Christmas though
What’s with the massive head gear? Small rode lapel mic works just as well without you looking like Madonna haha no hate just curious
Good job 👍🏼
I love these walking tours that you do Chris. I’m curious do you ever feel awkward doing these especially wearing a head set? Not sure how loud you sound when you do these and if it draws attention to you.
Certainly the gimbal and the headset draw attention. But the good news about this headset microphone is I can talk at a normal conversational volume so I'm not drawing a ton of attention from sound at least. I'm used to drawing attention though so it doesn't really bother me
Thank YOU 🎉😂❤❤
Looks better on TV
I enjoyed that walk.I was surprised at how less popuated it was to one I imagined. there were. Probally Covid.I would like to visit as I have a cousin in Thousand Oaks .I would love to find Judy Garland's stars. I hear she has one for film and one for music .Also her famous daughter Liza Minnelli!
Yeah. COVID has hit Hollywood Blvd hard
@@YellowProductions No. It was the government lockdown and government imposed restrictions. Not covid.
I was born in Hollywood and lived there majority of my life and currently live 40 mins away. Hollywood Boulevard and Hollywood in general has become a sh*thole the past 25 years.
Really so unfortunate.. not that you lived there.. but about what its become
@@YellowProductions yea it is.
Thanks for the tip Big Myke! They have quite a few locations around so perhaps I just consider them normal now. But yes. They do have good ice cream!
@@YellowProductions I had it the first time my last trip out. I’ve been craving it since! 😂 We’re moving to LA next summer so I’ve been binge watching your channel. Your videos are great!!
I ate at the Bollywood place! Cool!
2:57… Did not know Starline Tours was a real company.. haha the promotion Lana gave them with Honeymoon!!
Hah... yeah... sure is :)
I've been there lots of times
I went there five years ago and also earlier this year. It's changed a lot and not for good
You missed Kobe and Gg mural. You walk right past one
The tallest man measured 8’ 11” tall (not 8’ tall).
The Hollywood stars live in Beverly Hills or ...at the coas Malibu ❤🎉
Must admit I was quite underwhelmed when I went to Hollywood but people can say that about most places.
