This is hardly what happened, you must have watched a different video. The chicken was bland, she doesn't serve chutney on cake, the fish smelled strong and shouldn't have had peas. She only knew the soup because, it's obvious and she literally just made it at home.

I'm really impressed with her palate. I would have thought that she wouldn't have been able to tell, but she kept saying "this is exactly like how I make it at home." She is a really good cook or, at least, has great sense of taste. Good on her.
She's been cooking and eating her own food for decades lol, and yeah sometimes fancy food could taste like homemade food. I once went to a famous restaurant only to ate food that taste so much like what I cooked (and I'm not even that good of a cook)

THIS! Most people don't realize how hard it is to recognize flavours much more reheated dishes even if they are your own if your brain is tricked into thinking they are made by someone else. Not that a lot of people would necessarily find themselves in this situation a lot but even just trying to recognize flavours without knowing what they are beforehand can be hard.
It's just amazing how this show comes up with an excellent and entertaining story from an audience as a subject, whoever thought of this idea should be given a raise! 😂

That's a big part of the prank, not the lady having an insane pallet. Michel Roux is a VERY famous TV personality and literally one of the best chefs out there atm. I can hardly imagine ANYONE thinking that a frozen carrot and potato soup can actually be turned into realistic Michelin star restaurant food.

For instance I've seen a test done where they poured the same medium priced red wine from a bottle of very expensive wine and two cheaper looking bottles, into glasses and let people taste 'the difference'. Most people were convinced the wine from the most expensive looking bottle was 'the best' and used all sorts of fancy language to express why they thought it tasted better. And the wine from the cheapest looking bottle was the worst in their opinion, although it was actually all the same wine. But in this prank the lady didn't fall for it, which I believe was against what they expected from her, seeing as this type of confirmation bias is well known and often does influence peoples judgement.

This is hardly what happened, you must have watched a different video. The chicken was bland, she doesn't serve chutney on cake, the fish smelled strong and shouldn't have had peas. She only knew the soup because, it's obvious and she literally just made it at home.

I'm really impressed with her palate. I would have thought that she wouldn't have been able to tell, but she kept saying "this is exactly like how I make it at home." She is a really good cook or, at least, has great sense of taste. Good on her.
She's been cooking and eating her own food for decades lol, and yeah sometimes fancy food could taste like homemade food. I once went to a famous restaurant only to ate food that taste so much like what I cooked (and I'm not even that good of a cook)

Even the best home chef shouldn't be able to compare, so she likely had much higher standards for that meal than she would have for her own cooking. I imagine during the meal she was thinking that she could have easily made all those dishes at home for way cheaper, and she would be completely right. She had every reason to be critical of the food, so it's not fair to suggest that she was being snobby or uppity.

THIS! Most people don't realize how hard it is to recognize flavours much more reheated dishes even if they are your own if your brain is tricked into thinking they are made by someone else. Not that a lot of people would necessarily find themselves in this situation a lot but even just trying to recognize flavours without knowing what they are beforehand can be hard.

I really liked how they were unable to fool the lady into thinking the food was something special. I bet they didn’t expect that to happen. She recognized that it was similar to what she would cook at home, not knowing it was her own food, only presented a bit nicer. Well done to her! 👍
That's a big part of the prank, not the lady having an insane pallet. Michel Roux is a VERY famous TV personality and literally one of the best chefs out there atm. I can hardly imagine ANYONE thinking that a frozen carrot and potato soup can actually be turned into realistic Michelin star restaurant food.

For instance I've seen a test done where they poured the same medium priced red wine from a bottle of very expensive wine and two cheaper looking bottles, into glasses and let people taste 'the difference'. Most people were convinced the wine from the most expensive looking bottle was 'the best' and used all sorts of fancy language to express why they thought it tasted better. And the wine from the cheapest looking bottle was the worst in their opinion, although it was actually all the same wine.
But in this prank the lady didn't fall for it, which I believe was against what they expected from her, seeing as this type of confirmation bias is well known and often does influence peoples judgement.
@@user-jb1mb5xh9t There was an experiment in german TV in which a famous chef served guests canned ravioli and all sorts of ready-made shit, just presented more nicely and none of them even suspected a thing... They even commented on how well everything tasted. Most people are influenced heavily by presentation and authority and only view people narrow their mind down to the simple senses with little to no bias.
@@D4nt4lion yes but im assuming that that restaurant would already serve something like ravioli so the dish wouldnt seem weird. Getting served a menu of what is the quintessential middle aged british womans diet when youre at one of the best restaurants in europe with a very famous french chef would always seem off. She doesnt think its special because its not; you would never normally see shit like this in high end restaurants.

Anyone would be taken aback to go to a high-end restaurant and be served the same meal you made yourself for dinner the week before.

She seems like a genuine good overall person, and I think it was awesome how she was such a good sport about it. I hope they do a follow up segment or even episode where she can talk about the experience and try the chef's food.
