I mean, I almost killed a wanker while taking driving lessons, the bozo straight up rushed in the middle of the street with a carton of wine in his hand from behind a parked van, making me stomp the brakes and stalling, needless to say I had quick enough reaction time to stop before hitting him and my instructor just insulted him in every way possible, that scare made me calmer behind the wheel cause I realized that even in unexpected situations I could react the proper way but nonetheless made me focus on my surroundings a bit more to try and foresee anything that might happened, avoided many crashes in the 4 years ive been driving since that close call
I've long considered that the driving test should include an in depth psychological test as to suitability to be let loose with a lethal weapon. This man would of course fail.
This is what they do where I'm from. Before you are allowed to even begin driving lessons, you are legally required to present a dedicated medical certificate certifying you are mentally fit and physically able to drive a car. Otherwise, they won't let you into the driving seat.
Could probably weed out the 'undesirables' with a decent Psychometric test, pre or post driving test. Actually, probably best to have the Psychometric testing before they EVER get behind the wheel !
ive been driving now 10 months. When I learnt I learnt with a proper instructor but in my own car, fully L plated and showed I was a learner. We went from various times, from school run AM and PM times, to rush hour. The overtaking thing happened alot, it was scary. I went in to the curb when a moron overtook me and scared me...damaging my wheel which I had to pay for..no dash cam at the time.People dont trust Learners or are ashamed if close or over taken by them. If am behind a learner, I take my time and keep a distance...everyones gotta bloody learn.
End of the day everyone wants to be in a rush and they care about nobody else or their safety at all. I just don't see what these idiots gain, as we always see them stuck in traffic further down the road!
Is it weird that I think I know this prick? I was driving on the M4 very late one night around midnight for less traffic. I was doing around 75 in the center lane and a white Juke was hogging the lane in front of me when the left hand lane was empty. I moved to the right hand lane to overtake and he immediately pulls in front of me still going the same speed. I switched back to the center lane and he cut me off again. He did this for miles on a basically empty motorway, just refusing to be overtaken. He was an utter prick.
Jozef B This was filmed in Liverpool. The M4 goes from London to South Wales. Unless there is only one white Nissan Juke in England then I would say it's not the same person, wouldn't you?
@@Bluenosedcoop As it's at least 150 miles between the two places then I would say it's highly unlikely it's the same person, wouldn't you? And the needless insults say more about you than they do about me.
You asked at the end "what do you think?" so here goes. I think you did right to wind down your window and shout at him. It is an ego thing (fragile ego) but also I swear it's the same guys who would swear at the teacher in school. Problem with authority and the driving teacher is no different. These guys will also have hated driving lessons because they think they've got a God given right to be on the road, even if they endanger and intimidate other people. I'm a learner driver and not too affected by other road user's behaviour. But if this guy had been on my lesson it would have worried me. 100% should not have a licence (and maybe he doesn't)
As annoyed as you will be in that situation, I would avoid trying to get into an argument with him. That's what he wants, if you drive past and show to him that his silly pathetic games hasn't got to you, then you win. Of course I find it awesome that he said you're getting reported and he's the one who has ended up on UA-cam! You should put his reg plate in the title so he can search for himself.
"That's what he wants, if you drive past and show to him that his silly pathetic games hasn't got to you, then you win" Nice. You assign your own rules and claim he's also playing by them. That's not how it works. He just doesn't want you to pass him. Pull up alongside him and say "You know these cars have a dashcam, don't you? You Juke-driving inbred mongrel" and wow. You've made him look like a real tit in front of his wife.
He's clearly narcissistic. An argument is exactly what he wanted. By denying him that, of course he'd label you with all sorts of cowardice, but inside he's raging and extremely depressed that you didn't engage him.
As an ex driving instructor this puts me in mind of the time I was stopped at a junction with a pupil and we were waiting to emerge. The car behind started honking at us so I got out and asked him to have a little consideration for someone who is learning to drive and did he not learn to drive. He assured me he had learned to drive and why the hell was I teaching someone when it was the local evening rush hour.
Totally mindless, also has anyone noticed that many drivers will put others in danger to be in front and they accelerate away into the distance, yet we catch up with them further down the road without even trying to catch them.
Years ago when driving Leyland Titan double decker buses in London I had just that: the car in lane 2 next to me accelerated hard away from a set of lights and 100 yards further on I caught him up at the next set of lights...
Personally, I think the police should prosecute on the strength of videos like this, you have time, date, location, speed and evidence of everything he did, I lost count of all the offences he committed half way through! Idiots like this put innocent people at risk. He certainly didn't pass his test like that. Sadly, I see things like this every single day too which just shows the magnitude of the problem. Keep the vids coming, very helpful
If the police spent time prosecuting people for traffic offences which are proven with video evidence, they wouldn't have enough time to investigate non-crime hate incidents. Think how that would affect society!
@@eliteexpression good theory, but I'm not entirely sure that is true. Many people are convicted of offences based on statements and CCTV footage, there is no difference, all the evidence of a CCTV capture good enough to convict is right here, other than the actual driver of the vehicle but as a registered keeper you have to tell the police who was driving if they ask, if you don't, you "cop" for the offence - just like speed cameras. If you think about it, it's a win - win. Idiots on the road are stopped/punished for their dangerous actions and its done instilling very little police time as the footage is being sent to them.
I totally understand why this would frustrate you. As an ADI myself I have had similar situations. The psychology of road behaviour is quite interesting and reflective of the drivers personally. I always teach my pupils that such incidents are moments that pass very quickly and we should all just move on. ✊️
Lawrence Hart agreed. Psychology has a big part to play. At the moment of bad driving it’s already too late to remonstrate with the offending motorist mainly because that moment of bad driving is their typical driving. It would need a long, serious re-education for the offending motorist. A simpler solution is zero tolerance - just remove the toy from the child.😀👍
I really wish instructors had some sort of police protection, like they should be able to issue fines or penalties to drivers. Who better to do so? They are on the roads 8+ hours a day and are the eyes and ears of the roads.
its a fucking dual carriageway anyway, makes no fucking difference if you get passed at the end of the day, this guy was just being seriously dangerous
As a learner myself I'm often overtaken unnecessarily. People can be so caught up on not being out done it's infuriating. I'm not a nervous driver thankfully, but so far I can imagine the amount of people who have given up learning just due to these types of people. You sound like a great guy whose completely aware of this kind of issue, which in turn surely helps your students be more aware of these d**kiss people and how to deal with them... Good you brought this more to light!
Some of this stuff has happened to me when I was a learner. Even when I was going the speed limit on a 30 mph road, I’d still get idiots desperate to over take. Still happens sometime now that I have a P plate.
I don't have my driver's license very long, so I still remember this accurance pretty good. I live in Germany and had a driving lesson on the highway. It was during a part with no speed limit and my instructor told me to overtake the car in front of me (it was some sort of sports car 2 seats and a guy driving it with who I assume to be his GF in the passenger seat.) So I overtake the car ( he was going about 120 km/h. After overtaking I didn't slow down/ forced him to slow down . I wasn't "an obstacle" for him. I still drove faster than him). Just a few seconds after that this car shoots past me on the left side going at least 200. Man this guy had to compensate...
Andy Holmes ADI they believe learners are below them. Same thing with cyclists, bikers, and busses. ""Pro"" drivers do the same to everyone else on the road. It's about feeling superior to others.
Ashley, I know just how you feel with these idiots on our roads. I've been an Instructor for 34 years now and it still infuriates me when I get this happening especially when I'm driving the twelve mile journey home. I can be doing 60mph in a 60 and they risk life and limb to get past and then quite often go down to about 40 and become a real nuisance. Only the other day I had a pensioner doing 25 in a national speed limit and I was very patient and then went for the overtake on a good straight. He sounded the horn and flashed his lights at me, Unbelievable.
I think we must have missed the rule in the Highway Code that says "Driving school cars are never allowed to overtake" It seems to me to be getting worse also. Keep safe, Ashley.
What i think : Unedited dashcam footage coming from professionals like you should have enough legal value to make a license magically disappear from the hands of such people
Is there such a thing as a driving instructor in Chicago? I'm driving around 12yrs in Florida and as true as Jasus Stevie Wonder would make a better driver than most of them. No such thing as driving lessons over here. Americans think indicators, especially red ones are for use at Christmas time only.
@@Seanmcdhuibhne Hahaha yeah I teach by the book and people get agitated and want a pick a fight. I told my student to stop the car when a school bus put out the stop sign to load children into the school bus. The car behind kept honking and literally got out of the car picking a fight even though my car says "student driver" all over the car. I told my student to not make eye contact unless you want to get shot. Welcome to Chicago
@Saif Chowdhury Cars are the only thing that crash? I think you might want to check up on this a bit more! A car on its own does not cause a crash...It's the idiot behind the wheel controlling it! I've see plenty of upside down vans/ lorries and bike accidents in my life to prove that cars aren't the only crash culprits man! Cars are not the unregulated in this country wither...As there's cameras everywhere in this country! If any vehicle is caught speeding, you have to do a driving course/ or pay a hefty fine/ lose your licence. I find myself having to avoid cars/bike/vans and lorries everyday too...Which proves all drivers no matter what they are driving can cause an accident.....A vehicle can not cause an accident on its own...unless someone is driving it!
Manoeuvring like this without indication and consideration for other road users is just short of reckless driving, and is clearly dangerous driving that puts other road-users at risk of collision and/ or injury. Shame the video coverage hasn’t been sent to the police for some follow-up. No excuse for the bad attitude of the Nissan Puke driver, who should lose his entitlement to drive.
Regarding the episode at the roundabout, I think I would give him the benefit of the doubt, he could simply be performing the same manoeuvre that you said that you had intended to perform (overtaking the slower van), albeit with somewhat less forethought and consequent less advanced planning. Even the first change of lane to the right hand lane could have possibly been just poor planning and a late decision to change lanes thinking he would make better headway in the right hand lane. However subsequently it is clear that he is attempting to obstruct your progress when he later changes to the left hand lane, even though it is contrary to the route he ultimately wishes to take. He appears to have some issue with you and is under the impression that you were desperate to pass him - I do not consider that this is evident in your driving. He is probably feeling slightly oversensitive towards your driving as he attempts justify to himself his somewhat late overtaking manoeuvre near the start of the clip. We tend to find it easier to apportion culpability for our own errors in others. A manifestation of this is our eagerness to defend our position by accusing others of being in the wrong before even being challenged as to our conduct. Take solace in that, whilst driving, he appeared to be aware of where your vehicle was, which at least shows a degree of observational skills sadly lacking in a lot of drivers. Though I suspect this may have been simply because he was obsessing about you at this particular time rather than being indicative of his normal manner of driving.
If it's any comfort, taxi drivers get the same sort of attitude now and again... YOU. SHALL. NOT. PASS! My only other view is that you lost a bit of the high ground by getting into an argument and calling him a knobhead. He was never going to climb down, you'd got all the evidence for his careless driving, so you didn't really need to engage. It was so at odds with your wonderfully calm commentary voice that it heightened the sense that you were beginning to lose control. But thank you for sharing it with us, anyway.
I like to wave at people like this. My theory is that if it goes very wrong and we end up in court, it would be rather different when asked what I did to cause their actions if the answer is, 'he called me a knobhead', vs 'he waved at me'.
graymem, you are correct - but it will only work if you can prove that you had all four fingers, plus one thumb, extended. There are an awful lot of people who wave with only the middle finger extended - which is interpreted as offensive...!
@@graymem I have a dashcam - typically I'd just drive off without even looking at him...And let him drown in his own rage! Oh and then hand the clip into the police for some laughs!
I would like to point out how much Ash has changed the way he deals with these people. This video was posted 6 years ago. I watch Ash's video's alot and its amazing to see how now he wouldn't even entertain this with any verbal to the driver. Great video though Ash and its great to see how you preach what you say. I would like to point out after following this channel I tend to avoid doing stuff like this myself. Anything for an easy life, let them rattle on, just ignore it and concentrate on yourself and where you need to be.
There is an advantage to being behind and at a safe distance from this sort of prat, when he does have his next accident you aren't part of it and can just drive around the wreckage.
A lot of fully qualified drivers are very aggressive when they see a Learner!!! They forget they were once too!! It is typical, not just UK but here in Ireland also!!!!!
Shocking behavior, when I see a learner driver I make special allowances for them, for example if I'm behind one I leave twice the distance I would normally leave, not because I'm scared they might slam on the brakes without warning but because I don't want them to feel like I'm trying to push them into going faster than they feel comfortable doing and I also never overtake them on a single carriageway (unless they are doing like 10mph obviously). I've seen people tailgate really close to learners because they are angry that the learner is sticking within the speed limit and they don't want to and it must scare the hell out of them when they are new to the road.
I think you are both in the wrong here. Not trying to start an argument, just pointing out some things. At 01:25 you try to overtake the juke and the van, while in an intersection. Plus if you had used perception you could of seen that less than 20 metres away was a car that was blocking the right lane turning into a side road. "did he seriously just do that to stop me overtaking him?" - i highly doubt it as his reaction speed could be no where near that fast. just unfortunate that you both chose to do the same thing at the same time. At 02:27 you do a little movement to the left. This could be interpreted as you trying to intimidate and make hime think you were going in to the left lane. After he upset you at the van incident, you should of just left him alone instead of trying to overtake him, then trying to undertake him. Not very good rep for your driving school.
He changes lane while there is still a dashed white line, he was fine. It's not something I'd do just before a bend or junction but it wasn't an illegal maneuver, and pretty standard fare for town driving.
Is there some sort of taboo against learner cars? I've never felt inclined to treat them any differently and I'm just now finding out that they get a different treatment on the road.
PE62UUY... Well the vids from only 19 months ago, the plate can't be found on the tax/mot site, wonder what happened to it? with such an excellent driver at the wheel!!!
@yossarian usually yeah, but who would go to the expense of putting a private plate on a juke, ( I quite like them but they're not the most expensive cars) could have been a gift I suppose.
what are disgrace!!! Bless his selfish heart!!! I'm planning to learn how to drive but I'm from another side of the world similar to the UK!! (right hand drive) so I hope watching all your popular playlists will help me out! before actually in the learning process!! Thank you in advance for putting these types of videos up! really helps us to understand beforehand what will likely to happen on the road! everywhere globally!!!
As a learner driver myself and this happened to me I’d be an anxious mess. He’s in the wrong for cutting you up and his pride his hurt that he doesn’t want people to know he was overtaken by a learner car
He had no way of knowing that it wasn't a learner, (not that he would care). You were able to deal with the situation as you're a professional driver, but it would have been a dangerous situation for a learner, not including the physiological effects. It might be less likely for a learner to be overtaking, but simply being in a different lane with a different direction of travel intended, as shown nearer the end, could have triggered this guy and resulted in a student being discouraged from driving. People like this need taken off the road.
I've noticed people do this to me a lot since I purchased a performance car. Used to drive a Skoda and never had an issue. Everyone seems to have this unspoken spite towards certain types of cars, in this case a learner.
I know this is an old video but I love how he's acting like what you're doing is wrong. lmao. It's not just learner cars unfortunately. Some people just don't like being overtaken, I drive a big car so as soon as I'm in the right hand lane people assume I'm wanting to put my foot down and overtake, not that I'm wanting to turn right at the roundabout or next set of lights.
Jesus some people need to be checked in. My mates a driving instructor and ive helped him with his re-assessments or what ever they're called, also done mock tests and training with him, to help him out. Now i've been on the road for almost 15 years, have 4 licences (full bike, car, bus, folklift) and i've never been in a car crash. Not to sound like i like the smell of my own farts but i think im a pretty good driver who knows the road well. Yet as soon as we put that learner sign on the roof of the car all chaos breaks out, people start over taking me, cutting me up, not giving way and beeping me on a damn red to amber light. People have bloody issues.
The thing is, people like this act like they're in a hurry but somehow have the time to block others on the road, which actually delays their journey even more.
ive not long passed my driving test and only really been driving on my own for a few weeks, and seeing how stupid some people act still makes me worried about being on the road
I've had similar while riding a bicycle and being in a hurry, for some reason being overtaken by somebody 'who should be slower' can trigger people, perhaps they should set off earlier, go to meditation classes, or also ride a bicycle, if they don't like being slowed by traffic and overtaken by somebody riding along.
I had a similar experience with a Nissan Quashquai, it was following a slow driver, and I was following him, but no problem there was a short length of dual carriageway coming up - so what did he do, I let him go first, he went alongside the slow driver (old lady) and 'defended; the overtaking lane , then when the dual carriageway ended, he slowed and squeezed back in front of me.
Send the video to his insurance. Insurance rate increase, the gift the keeps giving, year after year. Better than a ticket. You did good. Very safe and defensive driving.

Don't be silly! The police are too busy stopping people from saying naughties on the twitter machine
If the police spent time prosecuting people for traffic offences which are proven with video evidence, they wouldn't have enough time to investigate non-crime hate incidents. Think how that would affect society!
You can't just send in video's to the police, they have to witness the offence first hand.
@@eliteexpression If that were true speed cameras wouldn't result in any prosecutions.
Reported to the police I would

You certainly didn’t teach him to drive. The quality of your instruction is excellent
Some full license holders do the strangest things around learner drivers!
Nice video Ashley, cheers.
I'm sure you've seen the same or worse Andy. Thanks for watching :)
I believe the phrase you're looking for is "over compensating"
Andy Holmes ADI they believe learners are below them. Same thing with cyclists, bikers, and busses. ""Pro"" drivers do the same to everyone else on the road. It's about feeling superior to others.
The best bit about this it proves that speeding doesn't get you anywhere faster for example 0:42 He was gone then at 1:00 you caught him up

My wife is a learner so we've L plate! Drivers we overtake often act in a similar manner! Weirdos! 😉
I think we must have missed the rule in the Highway Code that says "Driving school cars are never allowed to overtake"
It seems to me to be getting worse also. Keep safe, Ashley.
What i think : Unedited dashcam footage coming from professionals like you should have enough legal value to make a license magically disappear from the hands of such people

I'm a driving instructor here in Chicago and cars do this every time. Crazy buggers
Is there such a thing as a driving instructor in Chicago? I'm driving around 12yrs in Florida and as true as Jasus Stevie Wonder would make a better driver than most of them. What a prat. I’m embarrassed for him. He got upset that a faster moving car went to overtake. Bless him.
this is the kindof guy who thinks a nissan juke has the same road presence as a g63 just because its an suv
He barely ever uses his indicators and that swerve around the van was clearly the actions of an utter bellend
You appear to go through similar thought processes to myself Gareth , if so I sympathise with you and you know why

Don’t know how you keep so calm. Bloke was a Bellend
Road rage on both sides here, nice to see you’ve improved on your newer videos though
all nissan juke drivers must be avoided in every aspect of life.
Exactly. A very good match to my interpretation of what was really going on under the surface here.
Exactly how I perceived it, too.

Given long enough, he'll do it himself

I know this is an old video but I love how he's acting like what you're doing is wrong. lmao.
It's not just learner cars unfortunately. Some people just don't like being overtaken, I drive a big car so as soon as I'm in the right hand lane people assume I'm wanting to put my foot down and overtake, not that I'm wanting to turn right at the roundabout or next set of lights.
Obviously a mental health issue. No need for senseless blocking.
