The quest where Justin teaches the player to jump will always be to me the perfect example of how old quests were better, it isn't about just adding new stuff into the game, its about the quests making the player feel a connection to that world and interacting with it in a realistic way. No person that starts horse riding learns how to do a perfect jump in 5 minutes.
Yeah, I stopped playing around that time and came back about 1,5yo later... And the difference were HUGE. There are new things which I like, but changing the lore? - Why, oh why they did it 😢 It was good, now, as a player since 2013 I'm so lost in it, cuz I still remember "old" lore🙃
@@Shadowfox486 I feel the exact same way with the lore. It used to be so much more dark themed and the character's and music were alot more scarier and mysterious. I miss the Secret stone circle's old mysterious music that started playing when we used to have a druid meeting after we bring an important update on a new development at Dark core or when we saved one of the soul riders. Or the music that played at Moorland stables and the Vineyard etc. They were so peaceful and mysterious. The new music just sounds like regular nowadays music that you hear on Spotify. The old music was very unic and original that you instantly knew it was sso music playing. In general I just miss everything about old sso. I know partially for the reason I'm not playing anymore is due to age and different priorities since I'm an adult know and was a kid at the time. But it's also because the game is so different right know to the point that I don't recognize it anymore. Things seem way to magical and fake right now and I miss those old textures of the game that didn't necessarily made it realistic but more mysterious and different from other games. That's why I started playing this game in the first place back in 2014 after seeing those old graphics and the soul riders and quests and areas and stuff in commercials on tv. The other thing that bugs me with the game at the moment is that they took away the challenge in quests that made the game frustrating but also fun to play. It thought me patience and gave me motivation to try again untill I succeeded. Like the early quests when we had to sabotage GED it used to be difficult because those guards when they caught you in the act made you start over again untill you succeeded. Same goes for sneaking around at the GED oil side and then there was the time that when you fell off the cliff with your horse that it got weaker that it evantually made you return to your home stable to feed it and regain strength. You also weren't able to go out riding until your horse was feeded I believe. And so many other things used to be more challenging and difficult to pass. We used to actually have to wait for the bus to arrive, we had soulrider training with reputation that needed to be completed in order to continue the mainstory. That was part of the reason why players didn't complete all the available questlines in 1-2 months but in 7-9 months some even in a year or two because they wanted to take it slow. And even side questlines were fun and challenging. We had side quests with reputation or just regular ones. And they actually had some lore. There are so many unfinished extra questlines besides the main story that were never finished. Like the Icengate, the witch from Dino valley, the Kallters, Ashland, the fight between Chill and G.E.D, the lost major of Jarlaheim that is still missing, Marchenhast castle and the mystery around it, the unfinished questline with Avalon and the Kallters. Didn't they tease big things around the closed off gate to the Kallters homeland and the roar of the Yeti that made them leave (if it was the Yeti that made them leave) and possible updates to Dino valley? And all of that was teased near the end of 2018 for 2019 but that's not what we got they changed the whole game the following year and possibly scrapped certain updates to focus on more horses and things to buy etc. That's when the new management I believe enterd sso that cares more about money then the actual game itself. They also were going to expand on Mistfall stages 2 and 3 after 2017 but only one got released and then in 2020 they came up with a whole new area Wildwoods the replacement for North Mistfall. I'm really curious what the original road map for star stable would have looked like from 2019 till now if the original sso team was still in charge. I'm pretty sure the saving Anne quest would have looked different (all tho I liked it and almost brought me to tears), we would have gotten a quest about Lisa's secret mission involving her interests that Elizabeth send her off to while we and Alex were looking for Concorde. That's also a thing that bothers me Lisa's new personality and look. She used to be a rock star. I wish they would have kept that personality when they updated her not this country girl they created. I also wished they kept Anne's old annoying and rich attitude from the old games. That would have clashed with Alex's personality like it did in the Starshine games. Overall I just don't like the new game and miss the old one😂
This entire video is so spot on! 💗 Also what bothers me about the entire change of soulrider introduction quests is how sse basically erased all the emotional core of saving Lisa and Anne. Like after saving Anne, she's literally left scarred and traumatized after being stuck there for so long and now sso changed it to her being there for what, two weeks? How did she get such a big scar over such a short time, if pandoria's affect is so quick shouldn't Lisa have one too? Back in old quest it actually felt like lifetime passed till we managed to save them. Also the way they also changed Lisa's rescue quest from her being rightfully mad at the dark riders and attacking them to her giving Sabine a monologue about the "power of friendship" is sucg a downgrade. Why fix quests that are not broken? I really miss the old quests, they were faithful to the og starshine games and actually understood how the story should continue
Imo, SSO tends to touch upon alot of things that don't need to fixed/even added. They add new things that we don't really need, and yea they add quests, but none really talking about our story. It's like pulling teeth to get anything new that is actually useful
It's like we have them be besties with us served on a silver platter, meanwhile in the original plot we had to get closer to them through helping them.
I feel like having gone through all the quests before the editing started makes the whole story more cohesive. It’s like they add new quests in line with old quests but then someone comes along and starts changing old quests with no regard for continuity or thought that newer quests are linked to older ones.
I know some people hate it when we bring up the old star stable, but the amount of nostalgia I felt watching this really made me want old star stable back.
Not only forced, it's like all they are doing now: extremely superficial and rushed, it doesn't even have any logic. I remember that when we learned what happened to the girls, it was already a mystery which lasted, people were worried for a long time, we could feel something slowly growing in the shadows. Now it's just a huge chaos and us, beginner rider, jumping a huge obstable in 3 seconds and directly able to ride in a championship. They get rid of every possible immersion, just like when they allowed the magical horses to show their coats in cities/stable areas, it just goes against all the lore created for them. But it's all to satisfy younger kids. Also, Elisabeth knows how to summons fire... Why didn't she taught us that? We could litteraly have an efficient weapon against the dark riders, especially Katja!
Totally agree. I still remember, how it was basically an unwritten rule, that as soon as you get a new magical horse, you rush out into the middle of nowhere to see the coat change, and how cool it was, when you could see others riding their magical horses and crossing that border.
Honestly disagree with the wild horse coat change. Sure, it was cool the first time around but that's two coats and if you really want only one of them but hate the other then you're stuck jumping between the two constantly without having any say in it. It makes more sense lore-wise but gameplay-wise it's an incredible improvement. Not everything needs to be logical, some things are adjusted to gameplay rather than realism.
@@MusicComet that just sounds sad. You would purge everything that has to do with lore, just for gameplay? You don't have to have every coat. If you dislike one of them to the point that you absolutely don't want to see it when your magic horse changes, then don't buy the horse. You save on money, and don't have to see something you hate that much. It's not a big loss, to not own one of the hundreds of coats. We already lost so much just to make the game more baby-friendly. The whole point of the magic horses was that they hide from ordinary people, and only show their true coat to us, because of our bond, because we are ✨special✨. Now, when they prance around the middle of the town in their magic coat, they completely lost their entire reason for existence. If they are willing to show off their coat to any random villager, why aren't they part of every random stable, and owned by any random person? Oh, that's right, because the lore and gameplay directly contradicts itself, probably because some people who are too lazy to walk away from the village, cried a bit too much. At this rate, you can just get rid of all of the lore and make the game a sandbox game, if this is how every little inconvenience will be treated.
@@SuperSkyhorse You're twisting my words to fit your own weird narrative and I don't appreciate it one bit. First of all, I never said get rid of every lore aspect. Lore is needed, I don't hate it, but not everything needs it. Second of all, I said if you love one coat or hate the other, you would hate to pass up on one coat just because of the other one, wouldn't you? Well, maybe not you. Not everyone shares that sentiment and that's fair, but that doesn't mean you just ignore it because you're not part of the demographic with said problem. Now onto the last part. Gameplay, games are for playing, cusromization is an insanely huge part of MMOs as well. When games make things, sometimes they don't make sense in the world but are there to make the experience overall better (like chalk on climbeable ledges). I can tell that you're a horse-person first and foremost because you don't understand this crucial point. People who like games, know that 1 to 1 realism is often (NOT always) very boring. Not that realism doesn't have its place in games, but usually it just makes things very slow, tedious and impractical. Not to say that things shouldn't be slow or dumbed down or yadda yadda, quality, is what I'm talking about. Quality of experience. If a customization part of your game gives you a horse with two types of customization and you can't choose it, it's very dumb game-wise. Truth be told the trust of magic horses is frankly already weird to begin with considering you buy them from a random guy and they show your coat day 1 anyways because yayy magic. That's also stupid so I don't see why prancing around in a town makes it any worse. At best my fix would be to give them special quests to unlock them like in Hollow Woods and that's it. It doesn't need anything else. People like you who cry about realism, simply don't think of games as a game. You're welcome to dispute my points but I'd like you to at least understand where I'm coming from as someone who spends a lot of time playing various types of games.
And that's not me saying that I love how they made the magic obvious, I don't, but I'm not opposed to them making magic horses. The game really doesn't have much else going for it besides hanging out with friends and customization. Something that a lot of MMOs fall into when they don't have too much gameplay in the endgame.
As a player since 2014, the game is so.. dead. not in player wise, but in.. The models, the horses. It's so.. dead. The horses are nothing but cars. Our characters doesn't feel as expressive somehow. it all just feels so off. Yes, i do miss how i felt back when playing it. But i also miss how alive it was.
I remember a quest where you had to sneak into a house guarded by dogs, i don't remember much, but i recall the intense stress that this quest gave me, i was 12 yo i think, and getting that bright red screen telling you you got caught with an image of three black dogs was really scary. Do someone remember this quest ?
That shot of the old Horse Market made me think it'd be a cool idea for April Fool's Day to make it a retro week, where the old horse model was applied to our starter horse and old world textures were applied to the ground. Just for a day, purely for nostalgia and a way for new and old players to see how far we've come graphically.
This has taken me back 10+ years, I honestly have tears in my eyes. I remember playing these quests back when I was 14, and now I’m coming up to 26. Gosh how I long for old SSO😢
I remember I only tried this game out a tiny bit when I was prob around 15-16 as well but I never got into it fully, don't know why, wish I did cause I only started playing more some years ago and missed out on all the old stuff :( I'm also 26 now hahah
I started playing in 2015. I still miss these times when sso was so much more magical, fun and realistic. I loved the way the game was challenging. Now i'm lvl 25 and I can only train my horses and being bored. I hate to see how the game changed in a bad way 💔
I'm one of those people that you mentioned who log in to buy the new horse only to almost immediately log out and return months later... To see a childhood game I've played since its release back in 2011 still be around today but lost its soul is heartbreaking. They've gotten rid of so many holidays that were fun and made you know that is was a Swedish game and have almost americanised it to now almost make it completely empty... There is nothing to do besides buying stuff which requires money which a lot of people don't have to throw at digital horses and clothes! They have turned SSO to a glorified horse simulator where the focus is them earning as much as possible then the players having fun as much as possible. 😢
as someone who played since the very beginning, I miss the old feel and look of StarStable, it looked like an actual 'kids' game, yet still realistic. The quests meant something and the story felt more genuine and enjoyable. Nowadays it looks cartoony and strange, non realistic and the quests and story make less and less sense. It's gone too far off the cliff to go back now sadly, but one can't help but wish it would all go back to how it was. good video. the kids playing these days don't know what they're missing.
I wasn't aware the pandoric rifts were also gone. The game has lost all of its character. All the new pretty models, while definitely a visual improvement, can't make up for that.
I started that quest and then stopped playing the game for years (with the shadow seekers still attacking silverglade 😭). I eventually returned to the game months ago and was still able to complete the quest. It was pretty cool! I can’t believe they removed it.
I vividly remember completing the quest with Mary and her sheep the very morning I got my first star rider subscription as a gift. So sad they removed such a lovely quest that is practically the basis of my sso experience💔
The jumping ability has been semi reworked ever since they made the Moorland Camp for starters. I think at the first day you are there, you are only taught how to ride, and only the next day you can jump. Still, it does not give you the same feeling it did when you got star rider for the first time and immediately did all the quests to be able to jump, but it is better than before, when you could've immediately jumped after 2 minutes of playing the game.
Exactly what I had in mind. I remember waiting months or even years for quests with soulriders. After we met Alex and Linda, it passed almost 3 or 4 years for us to find starshine ( when they added jorvik stables ) and few months to rescue Lisa. Not to mention waiting for Anne. I was so excited to have sisterhood completed and now it's like they are lazy. I know it takes long for quests and that we are not kids anymore but the magic is gone. I remember feeling so special to be the last sister to complete sisterhood, having the utmost connection with my soulsteed and to be more than just ready to fight agains bad guys😂. Also, doing quests in old druid paddock is something I will always remember. New players get most of the main quests done in a heartbeat and it makes me sad to realise that they won't experience original star stable that we all fell in love with. And the old soundtracks😢 and also, don't get me wrong but I am not sure why they added pride month stuff and other non related things. I have nothing against it but what does it have to do with original purpose of the game? Not to mention that June was reserved for midsummer which i guess was also removed. Awesome content btw. Keep up with it. I'd love to see more❤
I play since 2013 and it took me years to complete all the storyquests. I also have a non-starrider account where I play sometimes when there is a free sr code. I completed most of the quests in like 20 days (all codes counted) when it took me years on my main account 🥲
Tbf, have any other events had any purpose to the original game? You're telling me an easter bunny that turns your horse into a rainbow one is... realistic? There's nothing wrong with current events besides that they're making them really boring. Most were just more integrated into the island itself but the themes weren't really that in tune with the game either. I mean look at Halloween events. Back then we just celebrated it on the island in the cellar but now we just go to Galloper's keep. You're just weirded out because it's new and probably really unrealistic. Events are just events. A bunch of games celebrate these things without it making much sense in the game universe. They're just seasonal things. It's the last thing that makes sense.
Personally, I would love to go through all of the current quest dialogue and compile a masterlist of the canon lore. Who's related to who, events that are mentioned, names, who's friends with who, who knows each other, and stuff like that. That way we could see the missing plot points.
I'm very excited for this one! As someone who started playing this game yearss and years ago I'm ready for the nostalgia trip and also disappointment these quests aren't around anymore
I grinded EVERYDAY to get those blockers done. I cant velieve they got rid of them! Its not about it being too easy - this will make players have 0 immersion in the game. Lets not forget how much we fought to get to epona. Bet they will open that one too to get to sell more horses
There's just something so special about the old graphics and quests. Also going from the old wonky horse and animation to today's beautiful horses and smooth animations sort of give the feeling of "becoming a better and more confident rider"
The deletion of quest hurts my soul more than i can explain! Its like what you said about a the storyline being a pyramid of blocks, once you remove one or two blocks the whole tower is at risk! This can create so many inconsistencies and it pains me to know that i wasnt able to experience most of these amazing quests! Curse you, finances!
I've only played SSO since 2019, but the amount of change has been unbelievable. I watched so many UA-camrs who played back in 2016, and it just felt so much more alive and meaningful with longer lasting quests. It probably took me a year before everything was done and over with, and there was nothing else left to do.
Thank you for bringing me so much nostalgia back with this video! I feel so sad, that sso has removed so much amazing quests that strengthened my love for the game. One thing I still miss is the quests with kallters! :( This was something that brought a smile on my face, since I was so filled with nostalgia! gosh I wish someone would make old version of sso available again! I would rush to play it instantly! Your documentaries are amazing, thank you for doing them! :)
I believe there was also a quest with Marley or Jasper that gave you an orange saddle pad (in the same texture and model as the instructor saddle pads) and another that gave you orange harvest leg wraps (similar to the ones sold at Jarlaheim). But those quests were removed. I'd love to see footage of what they were about!
new player here! It's sad that sso changed so many of the quests. From what I have seen and heard, the older SSO game clearly had a sense of warmth and a genuine want by the creators to incite emotion in the players. I will say too, that it is clear that SSO has forgotten about its own deletion of quests, as some guardian of aideen quests are clearly based on old deleted quests. I.e. Elizabeth keeps mentioning the druid paddock where we 'had our training,' but as a new player we are never trained after beginning the protector of aideen quests. Just unfortunate that there has been such a lack of genuine effort by the SSO team to have meaningful, emotional and well-developed quests. Anyways, thanks for the video!
Fantastic video! There were so many quests you mentioned that I actually had forgotten about, but was pleasantly reminded of. The story and the quests are what always brought me back to star stable. There are some aspects of the new quests I don’t mind, but I do miss the mystery of learning who characters like Lisa and Anne were long before you met them. The creepy, darker aspects of what star stable used to be is what drew me to the game in the first place - a horse game that had some darker elements in the story, the mysteries, the creepy atmosphere and it’s a shame that the edge the game had has now been sanded down. Now that the darker aspects of the game has been taken away I’m constantly searching for another game that’s like the old star stable, but of course, nothing can compare. Im someone that loves change and development in games, and I love many of the changes that have occurred in star stable over the years, better game mechanics, better looking horses, more diversity. But it feels as though the game has kinda lost its core identity. The edgier aspects of the game that drew us to it as kids. I like imagining a star stable game with some of the new aspects that’s currently in the game, the diversity, some game mechanics, but keeping that creepy atmosphere, leaning into the dark aspects of the storyline.
I really don't understand why they change tasks. They should focus on preparing new, engaging quests. And i can't believe that they deleted so many quest about our soul rider training
I like learning about these quests that were in and out of the game before my time. One thing to note, the quest with Linda and Meteor is actually still in the game! If you recall, after Linda is rescued, she doesn't have Meteor for a little while. The spymaster still tells you he was spotted in Golden Leaves, and his memories were altered. You bring Linda's riding helmet with you to try and jog his memory, and when you do, they are reunited. I recently did this quest on a side, maybe 2 months ago! One thing I disagree with though is the events of the quest take LONGER than 2 weeks. Jorvik Riding Camp just confirms you visit Jorvik a few days to 2 weeks before they go missing. Even without the day blockers, some of the quests actually say "some time has passed, lets recap". How much time has passed is up for debate, but I don't think removing the day blockers or the story updates included with Jorvik Riding Camp actually affect the timeline as much as people seem to think.
hi id just like to say i really appreciate the content that u make! as someone who has always stayed playing sso mostly for its unique style and story sometimes it feels like very few of us in the community actually care about the storyline and questing at all, so its glad to see another long time player appreciate it so much :) not to mention i love the vids u do on sso history as it's a game rich in its own players' culture in a way, and someone just had to document it!
It's so sad that these iconic quests have been removed. What you said, basically the game used be more building, building up knowledge of the area and characters trough side quests. Like uniteing the soulriders and their horses, that was such great introduction! If they wanted to add in a riding camp they could also have done it with locals or other random characters, whom share information about the island before, giving some hints about legends, invoking some mystery. All of that before meeting the soulriders, could actually add some anticipation when hinting about the magic in a first regular quest. Another building step. About the storyline quest, I agree that it was a good formula in the past. Doing 10 minute quests to build up your reputation for 2 months, preparing for the new storylinequest and then experiencing it. Made it so much more exciting! I fetl so useful when closing the rifts all over Jorvik. If only they added that now as well. I miss that build up between storyline quests now a lot. All of a sudden my character is capable of doing some magic, but I have no idea when or how she learned that, how her magical power increased, I didn't have to do anything for it, it feels so plain and dry. It would be amazing if sso gave us magical training in between quests and if were then also able to actually use that skill in the quest. That would make it feel so much more like a reward and an achievement! Oh jumping was so much more worth in the past, I remember how excited I was when I was star rider on codes and then being able to jump again, I jumped so much. This game had so much more depth and passion into it, it felt like there was so much more endless mystery to be discovered. I don't feel that anymore, I have accepted the new version, but I have doubts about the future.
Nice! Now they changed the first missions we have when create a new account.. this is sad, i play this game since 2014 and a lot of changes are in the game now. I understand they need to update but WHYY change EVERYTHING? The first missions is so lovely and nostalgic! The mission you learn to jump.. ugh, so many good missions droped in the trash.. i miss old sso. Thank u for these video! I love seeing this and remember my childhood, gold times and good old times..
Commenting again haha, but I recently made a new account to see what the new beginning of the game was like and how it panned out into the rest of the game. Initially I was kinda for it, you get to meet the soul riders early on and develop a connection with them, but it totally falls apart once you get star rider and start doing all the other quests, because one moment, Linda is there with you and says she will see you again, and then the next quest she’s suddenly been gone for over a week and trapped in the castle. You see Lisa at the start of the game, and then when you enter greendale for the first time you see star shine wandering around and instead of originally thinking “who is this mysterious horse in the woods” now it’s “why is star shine wandering around here?!” You get told by other characters that Lisa went to do a world tour - but you just saw her at the riding camp, and she never mentions in dialogue that she would be going on a tour which might fix this, but I think they should’ve removed the tour dialogue entirely because timeline wise it doesn’t make sense now. And Anne. You meet Anne at the start of the game like the other soul riders and she disappears after. They still have the dialogue that Anne went missing in France at a horse show and speak of her like they didn’t see her at the horse camp not too long ago. Anne again, never mentions that she’s going to a horse show in France or something when you last speak to her. You meet her and then a few quests later she’s apparently been showing around the world and went missing in France. The immersion is completely broken the moment you progress beyond the riding camp. Gameplay wise, is the new tutorial better? Yes, miles so, but story wise it makes no sense, especially since they kept all the old dialogue from the original version of the early gameplay. In concept I see what they were trying to do but if you actually read the dialogue it pulls you out of the story when Alex talks about Anne like she hasn’t seen her in months, or that Lisa is still a rockstar even though they removed that part of her character. The only character this new tutorial works for is Alex. Instead of meeting Alex for the first time at the manor you meet her at the start, and it flows nicely into seeing her at the manor again. Instead of having all the soul riders there, only have Alex there, or maybe Linda (but have less interactions with Linda so it makes more sense for her to have been missing as long as she has), and they can talk about Lisa and Anne and what they’re up to, creating intrigue. That way you meet half the sisterhood at the start and get invested while keeping the mystery of the other two. I’m one of the rare people that has liked and enjoyed the new directions taken with the soul riders especially with how they fleshed out Linda and Alex’s characters and having Maya and Alex in a relationship. Despite this, I still find the new writing sloppy. This is not to mention several other dialogue mistakes that haven’t been corrected. Sabine has a fantastic new design when she’s in disguise with a bike helmet and leather jacket - but Thomas and other characters still refer to her having a red cloak several times even though she does not have a red cloak anymore! And besides dialogue mistakes a bunch of older quests I played through now have broken cut scenes that don’t match the new areas or animations. I don’t doubt all these little things will eventually be fixed as sso has started to finally try to fix their code, but for new players I could see this all being a potential turn off as the writing now comes off as sloppy and inconsistent. While us older players know this is due to character redesigns and changes, new players don’t know that.
The thing I don’t understand at all is the reasoning behind many of the changes, “making the game easier for children.” I played sso as a kid and spoke no English whatsoever but I had no issues playing the game. I suppose they must mean some really young kids lol Anyway, loving the vids and memories ❤
Would You consider making a material about the things like the fashion show that used to take place in Jorvik and also Raptor? I didn't have money to play the game as a star rider back in the day and I missed those things, but can still see an impact these had on players. I was so disappointed sso brought back Raptor this spring but didn't remake his model nor gave him quests; And now that they revived the disco - still no sight of him? That was such missed opportunity to bring him back :( I wanted to meet this guy so bad Also fashion is my current favourite aspect of the game so it's kind of sad it's not being used the way it could've been with fashion shows
I wrote my first comment in my first language recently as a response to a fellow Russian player, but I've got thoughts to share with a wider audience as a new SSO player. You see, as I started playing about a year ago, I never got to experience some of the quests. As a result, I may not see an issue with being able to jump right away :'D Or the day block/reputation. The latter I take less issue with, but I am glad that the only 2-month grind I have to do is, in fact, optional. You see, I think of it this way: people have different play styles, and some, like me, like to focus on the story. On my alt I did main and side quests at about the same time, so the day block was less of an issue, but for the very first time, on my main, I was punished for it, which doesn't seem quite right. Maybe at the time when it was still new, it made sense as players had to be kept busy, I understand that, but at this point in time... yeah. Sometimes the amount of quests between two day blocks was hardly enough. And in my opinion, "longer" does not necessarily equal "better" as at times it might feel like unnecessary padding. And we're talking about 2 months at least, and many spent half a year doing this. I suppose they were doing things at their own pace, which is not unreasonable, but that is a very long time to get to another part of the main story. So... I must admit, I am glad I did not have to do that. Rune runner is a chore as is. Although the reputation system is very interesting in and of itself, and I don't mind it. I feel like some middle ground was finally reached. It can still be tedious, at times very, but while it does take time, it's not an eternity. And as for playing for too long... there's no way to have a 100% foolproof way to implement a time limit without kicking the player out of the game after a certain amount of time spent in the game, which is ridiculous, so I don't know how effective these really are. I'm glad my concerns were pretty much addressed in the video, it's just that I can't help but feel this way. Now, to fellow players who didn't mind and/or liked it, I can say one thing: good for you. No, really. We may not see eye to eye here, but I'm glad you have a positive opinion on it. That said, I am not happy to hear that the circles were removed as they play such an important part in the original Starshine Legacy story, so expanding their lore and importance would only benefit the game. Which brings me to my next point. The changes in general, especially in the story... I do remember that one time when the developers of FF14 cut out some parts of the first story arc, they got rid of unnecessary fluff (but kept the cheese dungeon :T), and the weakest story arc in the game became less of a slog to get through. But SSO gets rid of its lore and story bits... randomly, it seems? The lack of consistency made it so that older players' experience is different from mine, and when I made an alt, I experienced the most recent changes myself. As a result, it's hard to tell what is canon and what isn't, and what will suddenly stop being canon despite it being so in my playthrough. I honestly wish I got to play old SSO. I really do. And while it is unfair to expect it to be exactly like Starshine Legacy when it also used Season Riders as its basis and expanded the land of Jorvik, as well as its lore, oh how I wish they didn't keep stepping further and further away from what made this whole series so special and different. That includes Jorvik becoming more magical. It is necessary for an MMO, I suppose, but in the original games, the world was, overall, pretty normal, magic and magical creatures were the stuff of legends many most likely dismissed as myth, not common knowledge. And I'd be more willing to accept change if the world felt alive. P.S.: I also do welcome the removal of day blockers. However, I feel like that decision will require more substance in their content, be it quests or events. I dislike day blockers because I feel like they artificially extend an otherwise short story, but I want quality.
I liked the day blockers. They felt annoying at first, and admittedly it shouldn't be used to make short quests padded, but it really made some story lines feel like they happened over multiple days. I really liked having to sleep in between and coming back excited to save a soul horse or rider, to continue a massive operation to take down dark rider's plans. Being able to save the world or a person in one day seems too ..easy? Reputation grind does make sense as an alternative ofc, but that can break the flow of the story if you end up taking really long to grind reputation. I log in quite rarely and keep forgetting what I was doing and why.
Day blockers were a pain tbh but I feel like they could be kept in the game but made less miserable like for example... wait for 6 hours or something. Depending on when you play you'll have to do it tomorrow but some patient people might be able to do it in the same day. Some quests just seem like they really need it, either that or reputation blocks but reputation for a short quest is weird, however you always had the option to skip it. Had they just turned it into a shilling price then they wouldn't need to remove it at all in my opinion. Onto the reputation blocks... they are long, thatvs for sure. At most I'd just like them to keep it but shorten it a tiny bit. Probably by upping the reputation per quest numbers so it's achievable faster. I really thing reputation is necessary to keep players busy, it's tedious but it also gives time and lets people be rewarded for their work. Optional ones are best for side quests but story ones definitely feel like they should have it to up the importance of your training and passage of time. They're a neccesary evil in my opinion. Nobody likes them but you're greatful afterwards imo, because it feels more important. Is it lazy? A little bit, but that's not the main problem. The placement and implemantation is.
Oh man... You Made me realise how Long i have been playing starstable und successfully made me melancholic for the old Time where starstable still Had to be played trough the Browser😢
Now I'm sad I never get a change to play old star stable. It seem to accually have a good lore. I make my first sso account 2018, but started to play actively 2022 if I remember right. It's been two years and I just unlocked level 19. The mainquest are just so boring that I don't even want to play them. I'm more fan of the side quests, they are accually fun. I really liked the quest where was Igor and Frankie and you help them to dinovalley!
Thanks Kitti for another brillant Doco. Wow alot has changed. I have't been around that long but you are right when you have reached level 20+ everything seems to come to a crawl/grinding holt quest wise. They need a quest for the 20+ levelers that test there knowledge of the map and lore with checkpoints that you can't pass until you have completed each task to move on, at the end of the quest SSO ask what YOU would like as a prize and you receive that one special thing that you have always want in OOS from them as a thank you for long service to the game (Mine would be a Gen 1 Fjord) I think alot of older player would be keen to play maybe or maybe not. just a thought. thanks again Kitti for another stellar Documentary down memory lane and all that has been lost.
your star stable documentaries never fail to bring back nostalgia ! I miss those quests and they are some that I totally forgot about but you brought back the memories ! 🥺
this video was really good , also love seeing the comments aswell . I do remember these quests , clicking through them and running and getting the stuff. i do miss them because you just did so much and it filled my boredom .im not making another account to just replay them (paying) , but it seems like they have just changed so much so what would be the point of it anyways ! I also remember playing the renewed quests back in 2018 to 2019. I definitely prefer the older ones , so much more fun and i do reminisce on them .
I remember all of those quests, although what made me upset the most is the quest with Mary when I came back to sso in 2020 😭, I wish we will see a wedding preparation quests in future with them. Also I started playing the game on my alt and as I’m seeing they only removed day blockers from smaller quests like the one with Conrad or the one with rainbow jacket, I wish they would take into consideration that they should’ve reworked the quests rather than removing the day blockers at all, in future we will see people literally speedrunning this game, especially that when I replayed the game the whole game (with reputations etc. In 2020!) took me a month to finish I wonder how much it’s gonna take when they’re gonna remove every day blocker. Also I love ur documentaries ❤❤
I jsut ran last year's MSQ and if it weren't for the rep blocker for the Fripp in the library I probably would be caught up to the new druid training dropped last week.
I've been playing sso for about 10 years, a month ago I was bored, I created a new account and while doing quests I felt that something was missing, they even removed the quest with Jasper where you had to go to Fort Pinta to get Thomas's papers, now he just gives it to you 💀
Hey there! :) I completely understand your points and I really don't want anyone with the same opinion to feel hurt about this, but it's actually not the developers, but rather the players and overall community. I have been playing sso since 2013 and I have seen how the game and also it's playerbase developed. All the changes that were made in the game throughout the years, ever since it's release was because of the players feedbacks. They didn't come out of the blue. It just feels so heartbreaking to me that most of the videos I see about sso nowadays, are all about people complaining about everything and crying for the 'good old days', not realizing that these changes were made because all the complaints and many backlash that the game got since release. It's like people are saying 'Yeah, I know, we were literally complaining day and night about these things, but we actually changed our minds now so can you turn everything back?'. It's just I never see videos praising or at least appreciating the absolute hard work they put in, for example, making the new hollow woods, all the amazing quests in there. The changes that they made in the beginning of the game were also necessary for this game to go on running and keep being enjoyable after all these years. You see, it's an online game and changes like these are unavoidable. If it would've stayed that way, like it was in the beginning, the game probably wouldn't be running anymore or just on a really really small budget, because it needs to be up to date. And yes, these quests and all other things were very precious for me too throughout my journey in the game, but it will be just as precious and exciting for new players too, all be it in a different way. I've never seen new players complain about these things and us old players just have to accept the changes made and try to appreciate the absolute hard work, heart and soul that the developers still give to this game till this day. Knowing how the developers at sso are always literally bend over backwards to meet everyone's demands makes me always be understanding towards them and appreciate everything they put out. Some changes are sad, but still necessary. I still absolutely adore the main story line and other story lines in the game. In fact, I was never so invested in the story, and so immersed in the world of sso than these last years. We have to accept that just like the world around us constantly change, these things and games change too, or else, we'll just be bitter about all the things around and won't be able to appreciate the new, and this is also why we won't be able to live through it the same way we did before. God bless those who actually read this all the way! I just really needed to get this off of my chest. Btw, if you want old sso, you can play old sso, the pc games from 2005 and all that are still available. I do play them sometimes too. I'm 23 btw and I'm really sorry for this long message! :)
You are soo underrated!!❤ Love your videos! I always felt a kinda connection to the old so idk what it is but when I see something to do with the old sso, I feel sad but excited at the same time.. that why I always play starshine legacy because it makes me so happy! ❤ Sadly sso changed so much..😢 I do not recognize sso because the storyline changed alot and I miss so much places that are in starshine legacy..
Setting up your pc in the morning and turning on one of her videos and listening to it as you train, quest, or ad is the best thing that I have ever done.
Oh, yesterday I was wondering when next video will appear, and look at what we have!! Almost an hour of great documentary *-* Thank you, Kitty, for your hard work ❤❤
such a well made and packed with information video! it was a pleasure to watch and remember the old times, where everything just felt more real and interesting😢
I'm a newer player, since I started playing the game around 2019, when most of the critical changes were made. It was magical at first, obviously - buying the star rider after a year, and the whole world opening. I would spend all day just playing the game, but the lack of reputation blockers brought me to the endgame in about two-three months. Then I started getting bored, currently I only play now and then, I didn't even do the newest main plot quests. When I first got to know about the missing rep blockers, I was so disappointed, I felt like I missed a huge chunk of experience and story-telling that is never going to come back and that feeling comes back every time someone mentions those quests. Star Stable is always removing stuff to appeal to the new players, but from my perspective it's just robbing us of the gameplay itself. I wish they would change it back, but it doesn't seem like they plan to...
I discovered sso in 2013, but didn‘t get the whole launcher thing so I first started playing christmas 2014 and I‘ll forever have that time in my heart and be grateful to be able to experince the star stable you show us. The feeling of going to jarlaheim, santa there, the christmas quest, it was just something else. So beautiful. To know that I‘ll never get to experience that again is so sad.
Of course we now have beautiful horses but the old ones just felt so fast riding them, the way they galopp just felt way more fastet and they even made them slower now. Fastest your horse can get is 26, it was 28 once
i find it extremely awkward being able to rush through the main quest now. i understand reducing day blockers or putting them in more reasonable spots, but removing them altogether was stupid
Wow, amazing research, I had heard about some of the longest quests being shortened, but had no idea about the amount of quests the team took out of the game! With some quests I understand it, like the traveling horse market. I've always felt pressured to do those repetitive quests and dreaded it coming back most weeks. So I was really glad to see SSO get rid of repeating quests that give playerXP. Only to reintroduce them into the game a few weeks ago at the Starshine Ranch! I could not believe it, back to the grind for me. And this time it's not every three weeks but every single day! I hate that so much. Anyway :D I think it's a shame but it's also somewhat understandable why they removed Justin teaching us to jump. But with some of those quests I don't understand SSE in the slightest! Building the circus and setting up Lance and Mary were some of THE most memorable quests for me and made me feel like I'm a part of Jorvik. I'm so confused about SSE's decisions here and really heartbroken.
Hey Kitty! Loving this video like all the others ones, but I have to leave this tip here for you: please make the volume of the clips the same of the ones you are talking. I had to constantly change my volume because the clips are too loud, while your voice is just right. Keep up the great work!❤
Oh thank you so much for this feedback angel, I'm experimenting with using these clips for a more immersive watch and I was very concerned if the audio levels would match. I'll keep this in mind for my next documentary, I'm very grateful for your support!! °ʚ(*´꒳`*)ɞ°
@@helIokitti The clips were a very good addition, don't give up on using them! I don't know which editor you use, but I'm pretty sure all video editors let you adjust the volume of each section of the video separately. So if you look into that, it will be just right! Excited for more of your amazing and immersive videos, I absolutely love them!🫶
I just feel like the game is too childish, and not even in a way that I think kids like. I remember starting playing when I was 8 years old, and SSO wasn't scared of throwing in unfamiliar terms and words. Having to ask my grandmother what a bulldozer was really lead to learning something useful, that girls media usually doesn't bother mentioning. Star Stable challenged children to learn new things, and we loved it! It's literally what kids love doing the most, challenging themselves to grow. The new story and the way it's written feels like it was made for a toddler movie. Their target audience used to be 8-14 year old girls. And guess what, young girls don't want to be infantilized. It makes me upset that they are dumbing things down. Not even for my own sake, (I'm almost 20 now 😂) but I just think girls deserve to have their intelligence respected. SSO doesn't respect them anymore.
The quest used to introduce game mechanics and storyline one by one in bite size chunks with breaks in betwean. This was wat made the story and the game mechanics so compelling! But now they have reduced it to near zero making the game both boring and rushed... And i think they are trying to get it back like with the runehorse and hollow woods but when the beginning of the story and game is so rushed that it makes for a inconsistent gaming experience. Its as of you're playing two different games that are somehow mashed together horrebly. (It doesn't help that there are places with more than 3 different styles of assets visible in game) I think that if i was sse i would put focus on story and gameplay progresion, modefiing assets to fit the current style and of course fixing bugs. There are enough gameplay mechanics to build further upon to create interesting and fun quest without it being just "recycled" or "go get it for me" quest. Because right now its just a broken inconsistent mess for a triple a game price...
So I just noticed this, but while I've never played old SSO, on my way from Moorland to Valedale I noticed... a sheep, apparently still there even though Mary's quest is no longer in the game. Looks like they forgot about it.
Yall remember the golden stars around Jorvik that you could collect? After finding a one the magical music started playing and that felt so special. I wonder what happened to those stars? Do they still exist?
Not related but I miss the old horse sounds now that they updated them. It'a one of the very few things that were left of the old SSO that was always with you.
old star stable brings me the most intense nostalgia and longing to the point i feel vaguely sick. it’s so awful where the game’s priorities have shifted over the years, and how the overall style and even genre of the game has changed so drastically - what was once a magical, mysterious girls’ horse game with a side of horror and intrigue is now a cheaply-made cash grab riddled with glitches, plot holes and lost potential.
i think i started playing this game right before the major story changes- because I remember doing a good portion of these quests- like the silver glade rifts or reuniting linda with meteor.
This makes me so sad. I didnt get to experience some of these quests such as the justin jumping lesson and the ydris tent building (i started playing in December 2018), and i find it sad how me and newer players wont experience the same charm. I remember back in 2019 how me and my sister would always log on as soon as we got home, the game was so fun to us. Now, i only log on when new quests are added. There isnt much else to do. On top of that the game no longer works on my laptop due to it running on windows 8 rather than the current required minimum windows 10, and playing on mobile, especially with the new UI just isnt a nice experience. Its much less immersive.
❤❤❤
I was so fucking confused when I replayed the game and saw Anne at the camp fire at Jorvik Riding Camp like dawg ain't u trapped on anotjer planet
SSO changes started happening in 2018. I think a new management came in that year that completely ruined the core and the heart of star stable online.
Overall I just don't like the new game and miss the old one😂
yep
@@Shadowfox486Yeah i cant understand the new lore at alll
@@jusssie010i loveeeddd the scary dark and mysterious vibes the game used to have😭im so saddd
I remember so vividly how cool I felt, when Justin taught me how to jump.
YESS OMG. Couldn’t have said it better myself
Imo, SSO tends to touch upon alot of things that don't need to fixed/even added. They add new things that we don't really need, and yea they add quests, but none really talking about our story. It's like pulling teeth to get anything new that is actually useful
It's like we have them be besties with us served on a silver platter, meanwhile in the original plot we had to get closer to them through helping them.
i mean lisa wasn't stuck in a crystal, so... maybe that affected it somehow
Fr it‘s so peaceful and cozy
Personally, I really liked the way the game was before. The 'greatness from small beginnings' aspects worked SO WELL.
As a player since 2014, the game is so.. dead. not in player wise, but in.. The models, the horses. It's so.. dead. The horses are nothing but cars. Our characters doesn't feel as expressive somehow. it all just feels so off. Yes, i do miss how i felt back when playing it. But i also miss how alive it was.
omg i remember when i couldnt jump as a non star rider and was so excited whenever they released a starrider code and would jump everywhere
I remember a quest where you had to sneak into a house guarded by dogs, i don't remember much, but i recall the intense stress that this quest gave me, i was 12 yo i think, and getting that bright red screen telling you you got caught with an image of three black dogs was really scary. Do someone remember this quest ?
I do I believe the quest was located in the abandoned house around firgrove, we get the see the house I think in the Gretchen quest! (:
@@EliselovesFrietenYESS I remembered this quest too!!
yes!! im pretty sure tjis is the one where u get the i heart jorvik tee? something to do with unlocking mistfall or epona if i remember right
i just went through that quest! it still exists :)
I started playing at 12 and I’m going to be 24. The SSO we grew up in no longer exists :(
HONEY WAKE UP, KITTI SPIDERWEB POSTED A NEW STAR STABLE DOCUMENTARY!!!!!!
I'M UP!!! I'M UP!!
i miss the clueless person i was before watching this video...
they did WHAT?
THEY BROKE. THE WHOLE START. OF THE STORY???
I started playing in 2015. I still miss these times when sso was so much more magical, fun and realistic. I loved the way the game was challenging. Now i'm lvl 25 and I can only train my horses and being bored. I hate to see how the game changed in a bad way 💔
It’s sad to say but I just think that you grew up 🤷♀️. Of course when you complete the game there is nothing else to do you can’t do an infinite game
I wish they didn't delete so many old quests AND horses, kept them, AND LIKE gave them an update instead. LIKE, SSO COME ON? Why???
ALSO - What bothers me so much is they took out every realistic aspect, LIKE IF IT'S ABOUT HORSES, keep everything realistic. why get rid of it
I'm one of those people that you mentioned who log in to buy the new horse only to almost immediately log out and return months later...
That way we could see the missing plot points.
i miss these old quests so much, star stable just doesn't feel the same anymore
Please, never ever stop making content! So nostalgic and amazing.
I'm very excited for this one! As someone who started playing this game yearss and years ago I'm ready for the nostalgia trip and also disappointment these quests aren't around anymore
OMG og players unite!! ദ്ദി(˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧ I'm so glad you got to experience these quests before their departure!! ♡
I grinded EVERYDAY to get those blockers done. I cant velieve they got rid of them! Its not about it being too easy - this will make players have 0 immersion in the game. Lets not forget how much we fought to get to epona. Bet they will open that one too to get to sell more horses
If I'm not mistaken, you can now unlock Epona around level 14
30:20 i remember when on ferdinards market you had quests and you had to for example catch horses than ran away. ahhhh old star stable
There's just something so special about the old graphics and quests. Also going from the old wonky horse and animation to today's beautiful horses and smooth animations sort of give the feeling of "becoming a better and more confident rider"
New sso team made the game worse, shame on them, now all we have is boring updates, broken game, and lot of dramas
+ they slowly go bankrupt
The kallters were so cool!
I like imagining a star stable game with some of the new aspects that’s currently in the game, the diversity, some game mechanics, but keeping that creepy atmosphere, leaning into the dark aspects of the storyline.
no literally, its made for babies and just hands everything out to everyone freely
Timestamps!
I really don't understand why they change tasks. They should focus on preparing new, engaging quests. And i can't believe that they deleted so many quest about our soul rider training
I started playing SSO just before the revamping in 2018. I really wish i could go back and experience the old magic again. 😭
How much time has passed is up for debate, but I don't think removing the day blockers or the story updates included with Jorvik Riding Camp actually affect the timeline as much as people seem to think.
yes, i just played it on my alternate account two days ago so its definitely still there
The day blockers did really made sense, though. I loved logging back in the next time, excited to regroup and continue the story.
hi id just like to say i really appreciate the content that u make! as someone who has always stayed playing sso mostly for its unique style and story sometimes it feels like very few of us in the community actually care about the storyline and questing at all, so its glad to see another long time player appreciate it so much :) not to mention i love the vids u do on sso history as it's a game rich in its own players' culture in a way, and someone just had to document it!
I don't feel that anymore, I have accepted the new version, but I have doubts about the future.
i want old sso back so bad it hurts they ruined my childhood game
I miss the old Silverglade so much
Commenting again haha, but I recently made a new account to see what the new beginning of the game was like and how it panned out into the rest of the game.
I suppose they must mean some really young kids lol
Anyway, loving the vids and memories ❤
Would You consider making a material about the things like the fashion show that used to take place in Jorvik and also Raptor? I didn't have money to play the game as a star rider back in the day and I missed those things, but can still see an impact these had on players. I was so disappointed sso brought back Raptor this spring but didn't remake his model nor gave him quests; And now that they revived the disco - still no sight of him? That was such missed opportunity to bring him back :( I wanted to meet this guy so bad
Also fashion is my current favourite aspect of the game so it's kind of sad it's not being used the way it could've been with fashion shows
And the one week only lost parcel quests
im so glad i got to experience all of these quests on my own years ago. i miss old sso sm
ALL true facts! The last 3 minutes is a total spill on Star Stable!!! Thank you Kitti!❤
your star stable documentaries never fail to bring back nostalgia !
I would say that i look for games like this but i dont lol , maybe i wish games would have a side storyline with detail .
I've been playing sso for about 10 years, a month ago I was bored, I created a new account and while doing quests I felt that something was missing, they even removed the quest with Jasper where you had to go to Fort Pinta to get Thomas's papers, now he just gives it to you 💀
yeah, sso is even looking forward to remove all the timeblockers which makes everything too easy now 🥲
Setting up your pc in the morning and turning on one of her videos and listening to it as you train, quest, or ad is the best thing that I have ever done.
what a nostalgia trip!
I miss the old steve's farm and the old queests. Now they're start to remove the gen 2 arabians and pintabians.
Oh, yesterday I was wondering when next video will appear, and look at what we have!! Almost an hour of great documentary *-*
Thank you, Kitty, for your hard work ❤❤
I miss old star stable so much. Star rider used to feel like it was worth it, and now I’m not sure if I would buy it had I started playing now.
ooh i havent seen your vids in a while so nice to see it again!❤
such a well made and packed with information video! it was a pleasure to watch and remember the old times, where everything just felt more real and interesting😢
such a good video!! + your voice is so calming, it‘s so nice to listen to while training
So excited! You don’t know how much I needed this❤❤
YAYY I hope you enjoy sweetheart!! ദ്ദി ( ᵔ ᗜ ᵔ ) ♡
Kitty, you are awesome
i have never seen you before but i subscribed as soon as i heard your voice you sound so sweet and you deserve to be known💗💗💗
Your voice is EVERYTHING. I adore finding old sso players
Thank you for that video 🥹 I love seeing the old quests, sounds, old snow and feel the vibe
OMG yesss!!! So excited to watch your new video !!!😍❤️
I'm so excited that you're here!! ( ˶ˆᗜˆ˵ ) ♡ Thank you for the support sweetheart!!
Looove all the nostalgia! Thanku for taking your time to make this!😍
i find it extremely awkward being able to rush through the main quest now. i understand reducing day blockers or putting them in more reasonable spots, but removing them altogether was stupid
saving this for my tonight’s quest grinding
(It doesn't help that there are places with more than 3 different styles of assets visible in game)
I think that if i was sse i would put focus on story and gameplay progresion, modefiing assets to fit the current style and of course fixing bugs.
Looks like they forgot about it.
love these vids, can't wait for more!
the thing they said about day blockers being removed wasnt even removed fully cause i got a blocker when i did a quest with andy recently
They mentioned that they'll be phasing them out slowly so that checks out.
Finally you posted! 😁
Linda's quest about Meteor was removed after january of 2023 because i started a new account back in november of 2022
Yall remember the golden stars around Jorvik that you could collect? After finding a one the magical music started playing and that felt so special. I wonder what happened to those stars? Do they still exist?
Luckiky they still do! ❤
Not related but I miss the old horse sounds now that they updated them. It'a one of the very few things that were left of the old SSO that was always with you.

Nope, this quest is still around. I'm a newer player and did it just a few days ago.
Kitti, actually, the quest to find Meteor is still avaible... I KNOW IT BECOUSE I DID IT YESTERDAY
whenever i watch ur videos i cry because i miss the origin sso 😢
Yay a new documentary!
old star stable brings me the most intense nostalgia and longing to the point i feel vaguely sick. it’s so awful where the game’s priorities have shifted over the years, and how the overall style and even genre of the game has changed so drastically - what was once a magical, mysterious girls’ horse game with a side of horror and intrigue is now a cheaply-made cash grab riddled with glitches, plot holes and lost potential.
Haha this is the second time where the night before I look at your account and then the next day you post!!!
LOOLL OMG Are you psychic? (⊙ _ ⊙)
@helIokitti :O maybe... I AM OooOoooo..... (~☆0☆ )~
i think i started playing this game right before the major story changes- because I remember doing a good portion of these quests- like the silver glade rifts or reuniting linda with meteor.
I love your videos you have sutch a calmimg voice my favourite one was a spooky star stable i love it you are a star❤❤❤❤
I just want our lovely horse game back to old and as it used to be.. once again.. 🥺
