  • Here are two neighbours of mine, Anna-Mai White and Davy Murphy chatting to me two days ago about two old tonics involving stout and whiskey. Anna-Mai told me she was ‘angish’ (weak/delicate) as a child and her Grandmother used to give her a 1/2 bottle of stout mixed with a raw egg to build her up. Not sure if you’d get away with that one today!
Davy then tells me that his father would always warm his bottle of stout by the fire and mix sugar into it before he’d drink it. He also told me that on cold days his father would warm himself up with a drop of whiskey in his mug of tea - again years before we ever heard of Irish coffee.
The clip is only 2 minutes long and worth a watch. Anyone with similar memories?
