I went a 1/2 size down in size on my Captains based on their recommendation on the website. They fit nicely. I tried my normal size as well and they were definitely too big unless you plan on wearing thick socks. Love my Captains a year or so after purchase. No signs of any major wear.
When I first heard of Thursday Boots I thought it was crazy to spend $200 in a pair of boots, fast forward a few years and my perception has completely changed! Last year I went to Northern Sweden in December and brought my President's in Chromexcel with me, needless to say they were not the right choice. I had to buy a pair of snow boots the next day and wore my Presidents after we left the super cold part of the country. I wear my Presidents to ride my motorcycle, run errands, go to work when I dress more casually and even while I do some light work. I don't baby them at all. They are holding up just fine with some serious good looking scuffs :) Last weekend I was in Park City Utah with snow almost up to my knees, brought my Nicks Roberts and they held up amazingly well in the snow and everything else. Came back home and ordered me a pair of Thursday's Moctoes and can't wait to put them to work, they will give my Presidents a nice break from the harsher use. For what you pay I think it's pretty damn hard to beat Thursday Boots' value, although if you don't mind waiting and saving the higher priced boots (such as Nicks) are totally worth the money.

Great review, Khoi. I have the Cavaliers in sand suede and black leather and the scouts in dark brown leather and cognac suede. Can’t say I wear them hard as I work in an office and don’t have to do much walking during the work week. Great boots though. Been tempted to get the captains in burnt copper or Arizona Adobe from their rugged and resilient line.

I’ve had my black leather dukes since 2015 and yes the elastic has definitely loosened and the heel padding is as flat as a pancake but still one of my favorites to wear if I don’t plan to be on my feet for long periods of time. Plus I just ordered some captains in their safari suede color. At the time of writing this comment they are still in transit but looking forward to wearing them for this fall and winter

@@gentwithin hey hey! So I actually purchased them soon after I commented and I've already worn mine for two weeks now. Very stylish and very well fitted, enough room for warm socks for the winter. However my right foot becomes very sore after a lot of walking. It's gotten less worse as I wear them more, so I hope it won't be an issue after I've totally broken into them.
@@gentwithin I got the Captain boots in Black Matte, and they're gradually getting easier to walk in. One unfortunate thing I'm noticing though is they're not very good with icy roads and sidewalks, and where I live the winters are quite long and can get icy.
I love my Captain Black Matte. Went 1/2 size down and they were super snug at first but broke in nicely. The break in period for me was about 3-4 weeks, wearing them 3-4 times a week. They were NOT comfortable out of the box, as many other people keep saying for some reason. The leather is quite stiff and rigid (which is good).
Nice review sir! Thursday makes a solid boot all things considered. I have the captains and presidents and they are aging pretty well. They both have some strange creasing like yours. I think it’s due to the leather quality just not being very great. It’s okay enough, but the leather is quite thin when compared to better brands. Personally, I think Grant Stone and Red Wing are worth spending an extra 150 bucks on because they are actually WORTH a resole. Thursday boots are not. Truman’s are amazing at 450 and my Nicks are absolutely astounding at 580.

If you are gonna hike, I would recommend the thursday boots explorers. Not as good as actual hiking boots, but the soles are much better on rocky terrain and more comfortable
I think the reason the presidents aren't treated with waterproofing is because the shoe polishes can't sit well with it. Usually put on water proofing after wax polishing and conditioning.
They do offer wider sizes...just not on all the models. The Captain and President for example offer wide sizes...Just not in all the colors and finishes. I have brown captains in 11.5 EEE
kinda unrelated but I watched your old videos about suit supply as I was trying them out. spier and Mackay make some jackets in 34 slim short length and they are pretty popular on places like styleforum slightly better than suit supply supposedly. I've got my first order coming in soon

I've always been mystified by Thursday Boot sizing recommendations. They say to buy your regular shoe size, or size down 1/2 Size to your sneaker size, suggesting that your sneakers are a half size smaller than shoes. I've been wearing size 11 medium in both my entire life, and my shoes and sneaks always fit just fine. No size disparity
yeah, i can see where the confusion can come in, esp since all brands are different too. but good thing they offer free shipping and returns so you can order multiple sizes and return what doesn't fit.

You don’t have to sacrifice comfort for durability - after break in, Iron Rangers are super comfortable, all day, and they are indestructible. My Carmina jump boots are also crazy comfortable and really, really durable as well. More money, sure, but there is no trade off required for comfort/durability. Now how can I get Thursdays to stop sending me targeted advertising???
i think part of it has to do with my one foot being slightly bigger than the other. i tend to get similar pain on the same foot with other shoes as well, after long durations of wear. hahaha...talk to facebook or google about that 😂
I just bought the Tobacco StormKing Captains a couple months ago. It's a great boot, and I love the sole on them. But I am getting a sole split on one shoe, near the toe, after only two months, which is disappointing, considering I didn't have any such issues with my original Brandy Captains before resoling them a year ago after only nine months of owning them (I wore them almost every day).
I have a pair of Duke's, that have a sole split that I am disappointed with, the elastic is wearing a little bit too. It also has the crease that I am not crazy about. The soles are a little too slippery for me and the boots are a little too heavy. They are in fact very comfortable and they look good. I am not sure if I will order another pair of Thursday boots or not. I will see how they do getting resoled and decide from there. I have had them less than a year and uses them for work as a pilot. I am very tough on shoes so I will have to take that into consideration as well.

The leather boots should be water proofed with polish (which contains a lot of wax). Maybe polish them up. They will be the most water proof of the three pairs and you'll at least have one pair that looks decent.
depends on the person. for me, they're true to size. I'm 7.5 for most brands and that's what I am with Thursday. Although I am sz 8 with sneakers like Nike and Adidas, so yeah half-size down from sneakers as a baseline
I have Thursday vanguard. The leather is tough and durable. However the heels wear out with in three month. I had to go to my local cobbler to get them fixed. You didn’t mention anything about maintenance the boots. The heels looks to be in perfect condition. How often do you wear your boots.
how the heck did your heels wear down in 3 months? you must be mercilessly dragging them across the concrete or something. i wear them pretty often come fall/winter. i don't drag my feet and don't beat up my boots, with exception to the captains on that 12 mile hike mentioned in the video.
If it was 1 air over 4 years that would be more impressive. Given you were rotating 3 pair and probably some other shoes too, that's still $150/year. There's probably a l9ot of alternative options if you're willing to commit that much cash every year to footwear. While you can replace the soles, It probably doesn't make a ton of sense based on cost. Still not sure if this is actually a good deal or not.
How wide are these? I've had a disaster with Redwing chukka boots (still hurting after a year) and Trickers Stow (devastated to send back, as they were too narrow, and my instep is quite high so the base of the tongue dug in like a knife). I'm running out of options...
@@gentwithin Thanks for replying - In the end I got some Loake Roehampton which are very similar to the Thursday, and cost the same. A little bit snug at first (maybe I should have gone for the slightly wider Sedburgh), but they are breaking in nicely, and a million times more comfortable than the Trickers. The Redwings have gone in the trash can - they are unwearable.
how has your sole held up over 4 years, of 1 year of regularly wearing my captains the sole has almost worn down to the stacked leather :o It's not a huge deal cause resoling is to be expected
They aren't hiking boots. They aren't work boots. They are nice looking casual boots(really nice btw). So I don't even know WHAT you were thinking wearing them on that hike. Like some city mouse going out to the country...no clue. Sorry

"They're too heavy. Lighten them up a few ounces." No. This is what makes Thursday amazing. They're built to last which means quality. If they lighten them they'll be worse. Do some squats, lunges or cardio instead.
Justin, I find the construction excellent, however the quality is poor. To have the front of the soles split after about 6 months of use (and this is common, not just me) shows that they are not built to last. What good is Goodyear Welt if you have to have them resoled so quickly?
Hello I personally own captain brown. What I wanna ask is how frequently you wore your thursday boots? I wear mine every other day but the creases are way worse than yours even with shoe trees and quite frequent care. Would you recommend a good shoe tree?

Wow! What did you do with them. I'm going on year 1 with my Iron Rangers and they have almost no signs of wear apart from some scuffs. I've worn them about 150 times over the years, though it's mostly city living.
4 years ? i bought DM Chelsea s that i was advised would last a "lifetime" and killed them, ive yet to meet a pair of boots that i wont destroy in 2 seasons max of doing nothing special. Blundstones and Dr martens last me only 1-2 season
I own 4 pairs of Thursday Boots. i would say dont size down with these boots. If you wear thick socks you will thank me later, even if you wear thin socks you will thank me later. I sized down my Brown Captains and i barely wear them because they hurt the top of my foot. DONT SIZE DOWN!!!!!!!
Thank you for the recommendation. I took the test on their website I have two pairs of Tecovas lizard and caiman and I wear a 13 in them. I didn’t want to size down as those fit me great. The Thursday’s come tomorrow fingers crossed 🤞 they fit right.
By the lack of wear on the soles I don’t think you wore them enough for a 4year update. If I wore a shoe once a week for 4 years you are still talking 7 months of daily wear.

Have you experienced the Thursday drop on any of your boots? Meaning the cork wore out and now it feels like you’re walking on a rough surface
I haven't experienced any noticeable drop, the boots have remained pretty consistent thru the years.
They changed the formula in their cork to solve that issue.

sounds like you're tougher on them than i am, so that explains the wear 'n tear over time. either way..sounds like a mixed experience for you

@@kvguan pretty solid. can go a full day of walking around or standing no problems. not ultra comfortable by any means, but not uncomfortable either.
I tried Thursday Boots but they were to heavy. They were heavier than a pair of steel toe that I work in. I had to return them.
they are quite heavy as i mentioned in the video..that's one of the downsides IMO.

If it was 1 air over 4 years that would be more impressive. Given you were rotating 3 pair and probably some other shoes too, that's still $150/year. There's probably a l9ot of alternative options if you're willing to commit that much cash every year to footwear. While you can replace the soles, It probably doesn't make a ton of sense based on cost. Still not sure if this is actually a good deal or not.

How wide are these? I've had a disaster with Redwing chukka boots (still hurting after a year) and Trickers Stow (devastated to send back, as they were too narrow, and my instep is quite high so the base of the tongue dug in like a knife). I'm running out of options...
not all that wide..they're normal width imo....they also offer wider widths on some models.
@@gentwithin Thanks for replying - In the end I got some Loake Roehampton which are very similar to the Thursday, and cost the same. A little bit snug at first (maybe I should have gone for the slightly wider Sedburgh), but they are breaking in nicely, and a million times more comfortable than the Trickers. The Redwings have gone in the trash can - they are unwearable.

how has your sole held up over 4 years, of 1 year of regularly wearing my captains the sole has almost worn down to the stacked leather :o It's not a huge deal cause resoling is to be expected

The website says to order a size down. Did you order a 7 or just stuck with the size you always get for your other shoes ?
i ordered a half size down (7.5) from my running shoe size which is 8 and it fits perfectly

No. This is what makes Thursday amazing. They're built to last which means quality. If they lighten them they'll be worse.
Do some squats, lunges or cardio instead.
Justin, I find the construction excellent, however the quality is poor. To have the front of the soles split after about 6 months of use (and this is common, not just me) shows that they are not built to last. What good is Goodyear Welt if you have to have them resoled so quickly?

Hello I personally own captain brown. What I wanna ask is how frequently you wore your thursday boots? I wear mine every other day but the creases are way worse than yours even with shoe trees and quite frequent care. Would you recommend a good shoe tree?
i wear them pretty regularly from october-april ish, not everyday though. I rotate my footwear often to prolong their life. i personally have woodlore, nordstrom brand and beckett simonon shoe trees. some people wear their boots down faster than others. how long have you had your boots?

Wow! What did you do with them. I'm going on year 1 with my Iron Rangers and they have almost no signs of wear apart from some scuffs. I've worn them about 150 times over the years, though it's mostly city living.

ive yet to meet a pair of boots that i wont destroy in 2 seasons max of doing nothing special.
Blundstones and Dr martens last me only 1-2 season

I own 4 pairs of Thursday Boots. i would say dont size down with these boots. If you wear thick socks you will thank me later, even if you wear thin socks you will thank me later. I sized down my Brown Captains and i barely wear them because they hurt the top of my foot. DONT SIZE DOWN!!!!!!!
i think it depends on the individual. for me, sizing down a half size was the right move. it's going to be different for everyone.
Thank you for the recommendation. I took the test on their website I have two pairs of Tecovas lizard and caiman and I wear a 13 in them. I didn’t want to size down as those fit me great. The Thursday’s come tomorrow fingers crossed 🤞 they fit right.

By the lack of wear on the soles I don’t think you wore them enough for a 4year update. If I wore a shoe once a week for 4 years you are still talking 7 months of daily wear.
my soles rarely ever get worn down on all of the shoes and boots that I own. I treat my footwear pretty well for the most part and don't drag my feet.
