I would love more reviews of boots and shoes from an actual cobbler! This has been enlightening
Plenty more to come. We’ve done a handful so far, so check them out if you haven’t had a chance.
TheNomdeguerre I own both and have really enjoyed both of them.
yea do danner
Seriously. This is exactly what I wanted to see. I'm sick of cheap boots literally falling apart after 5-6 months.
Not a cobbler but rose anvil is a leather worker
This is great! Not only is he very informative, but the fact that an actual cobbler bought the boots for himself is a good testament.
This is great, this is exactly what we need more of. I made a comment in the other video, and this step by step in depth review is amazing. Thank you.
Love these literal broken down reviews of these shoes, very honest and intriguing videos
Found your channel a few days ago, now I can’t stop watching your videos. Real quality and honesty in your content. I came for the ASMR but stayed for the knowledge you guys deliver with such passion. Thank you.
Our pleasure!!
I've been seeing the ads on UA-cam videos for months now! So I searched these boots on UA-cam and I'm happy to see that you're reviewing them!!
Great review guys. Great to see a budget priced boot that is actually well made. No wonder they are so popular. And love the background music. I really enjoy the jazz in the background, just loud enough to add to the atmosphere.
Have to say, it's one of my favorite pair of shoes. They still look good and feel comfortable (with insoles(recommended)). I definitely will be buying a new pair.
You know, it would be cool to find out later down the line that you guys are teaming up with Thursday to offer resoling services. You all look like you do awesome work.
Thanks, Jose!
Otie Jason It’s less wasteful to maintain a pair of good shoes than throw a whole pair away
@Otie Jason I can't say for sure about the Thursday boots because I don't have them, but some leathers definitely get better with age and wear. You might like your old, broken in and worn boots better than new ones. It's certainly the case for me with some of the bags/briefcases I have.
They are now a cobbler for Thursday!
I have a pair of the Captain's , Natural color. Been wearing them for almost 2 years and I love them. They have held up well, and seem to be getting better, and better the more I wear them. Love the videos , keep up the good work.
I want the brandy version.
I’m just now considering buying a pair, I’ve seen your channel many times, always love them.
Y’all have earned my sub, and you were the number one video I clicked on when I searched for this, I wouldn’t trust anyone else more!
Keep up the great work. And thank you. Love from Kansas City!
Your review was super helpful. I’ve wanted a new pair of boots, but I didn’t want to spend an arm and a leg for them. Your video as made my decision easier. Thank you!
Wow wasn’t expecting a whole tear down. Thanks for the video
Killing me deconstructing those boots! Lol!! I can't wait to hear about what you got in the works. Super excited for you all!!
James Weiss Haha...thanks, James! There’s going to be a lot of deconstructing going on here. 😁 Everyone should know soon.
I concur...I have a pair of the Gray/Olive that he deconstructed...😢
Best boots I've ever owned and I've made it a point to tell anyone that will listen what a great company they are..
They basically just fast forwarded 2 months worth of wear by destroying them lmao
@@cclark3905, how has the suede held up for you? I'm on the fence about get some suede captains.
To be fair, if anyone could put it back together...
Love this channel. This has to be a beneficial business move for Thursday's. Brand recognition/marketing. I wasn't aware of this company. After some research, I just ordered a pair. Hopefully the brothers were compensated in some way. :)
If I recall correctly, I do believe that I've had a pair of work boots before that had Kevlar laces, the idea was to prevent them from burning. They definitely worked great while I was working as a welder!
Thank you for showing us. Bought a pair of their Diplomats last month, comfy right out of the box. One UA-camr on his review mentioned his Thursday boots had cork in the sole. Goes to show you.
This was a great review. I was on the fence about Thursday but now I know it's worth the money.
Looking forward to having you a part of the Team :) ! Best, Kendra from Thursday
@@Thursdayboots You're the only YT sponsor I've ever bought from, and I'm so glad I did. I have the Captains in brown and the Chelsea Cavalier Suedes in shadow grey, and I love them. I appreciate what you do, bringing such a high priced item to a lower market and making them with such quality.
@@SilverRiMiX I've had 4 pairs for over 4 years now and they're all holding the test of time and i did flooring along with construction for 2 of the years
@Mafioso 1963 I own their old style combat/hiking boots a pair of the scouts 2 pairs of Chelsea boots , a pair of the blue suede boots along with the captains and i think the vanguard but I cannot be too sure and a pair of the commanders
@Mafioso 1963 genuinely the "wear" and tear aspect is pretty true if you get more of the rougher style you won't exactly have to worry about cleaning them too much but if you go with their suede then I'd still avoid the rain though they are good in the rain as well. If you look at the specific bottom of each shoe you'll be able to tell the differences in texture along with what they're more able to do, you won't wear a flat Chelsea boot hiking but if the chelsea boot has grips for the outdoors and is properly coated i see no issue.
Bless you fine gentlemen for this content! about to buy my first pair of boots and its cool learning so much!
A perfectly timely video given I just took order of my first two pair of Thursday boots on Saturday!
I wore the first pair out last night and it felt great ...there was a little bit of rubbing above the top of my right toe but that's the darn bunions fault!
Outside of that the quality of the boot (externally) looks really solid but this break down totally shows just how well built they are. Thanks I'm looking forward to putting these guys through a NYC Fall and Winter to see how they keep up...but I don't intend to use them as "beater boots" as they do look good. Oh I got the Scout Chukka's which pretty much have the same sole construction as what the Captains have I'd imagine.
Welcome to Team Thursday! The Scout is a great first pick. Enjoy your boots this winter :)
Thank you for your Thursday boot review! Can’t wait to get a pair!!
i just bought a pair last week, i cant wait for them to come in now this review excited me :D
I'd like to point out that some Thursday Captains have that "DuraEVA" comfort strip shown here, while others have a leather midsole, depending on the style and leather choice. Best to ask Thursday which ones have which construction if that matters to you, but Thursday has stated at least the rugged and resilient line "should have" a leather midsole. I presume a lot (but not all!) of the classic leathers have the "DuraEVA" shown in this video. The black foam "poron like" layer under the outsole.
Super Excited as I just purchased my first pair of " quality " boots. Went with the Thursday Captains as price point is great! Thanks for the explanation as to what makes a quality boot!!
Great video! It would be awesome to see a video on cleaning and protecting their "Rugged & Resilient" leather lineup (the pair you're holding at the end). Specific products, techniques, etc. They sell cleaners on their site but they note they may discolor those particular leathers and recommend professional cleaning. I like to learn and do things on my own though, which I'm sure is why many of us ended up on your channel!
That's a question I had on my mind. Great review, thanks.
Wow, what a great buy with that much workmanship…I love the color of your personal ones. Helpful information I really can’t get over the price it seems like a steal. 💕🥾
Good Review.I I see Thursday Boots as a casual boot. I wear boots most the time and
have heavy duty boots for work , mototcycle riding ,hiking etc, etc.
I will look to buy from Thursday boot for after work ,casual Saturday cruising around ,
or a night out. Good style , now I see good in build. Thanks for the video.
rushedandlost Thanks! Yeah, they’re definitely more of a casual wear boot. Not something we would recommend for heavy duty work.
More companies should let you and other cobblers on youtube do this. My hats off to Thursday Boots for letting you do this and not hiding anything.
These are amazing!!! I’m extremely happy with my boots. I own both of the exact boots shown in this video and it only solidified my thoughts about this company! I would highly recommend these boots
Enjoy your boots! Best, Kendra from Thursday
This is exactly the video I was hoping to find. Thank you!
they have been using Kevlar in waterskiing ropes for over 30 years and vary strong !! Love the content
I enjoyed your review as you evaluated the Thursday Captain Boot. I have been reading and watching some other reviews and, on Friday, ordered a pair. I have been buying Johnston and Murphy footwear since 2004 but have noticed issues with their quality as of late. Therefore, I think Thursday Boots may be a good choice from now on. Thank you for assembling this video.
I recently started learning about boot construction and I looked at the boots I already owned and realized they're all mostly crap lol. Watching videos like this helps me get the best bang for my buck. Thanks!
I just bought some Midnight Suede Captains. One flaw I found was that the stitches on the sole aren't recessed. I guess I'll need to head to a cobbler for a resole a little bit faster once the threads start wearing through. Otherwise, they're well made and comfortable.
Another great video, guys! I got some Thursday Captains 6 months ago and I love them. In fact, I got two pairs of them.
Thanks, Scott! Glad you enjoyed. I got mine earlier this year and have liked them.
Aweseome Scott! Welcome To Team Thursday :)
Great video! I own four pair of Thursday Boots and I love them!
I've always wanted to see a video showing the guts of a Thursday Boot...thank you very much!
By the way, you've got my interest really peaked on this collaboration thing possibly with Thursday Boot. Looking forward to whatever it is, keep up the great videos.
Thanks, David! Glad to hear you’re enjoying yours. We’ve liked ours as well. If there’s a good brand out there, I like to share it and tell others, as well as hear how others may/may not like theirs.
We should be able to tell everyone very soon! 👍🏻
@David Macy - Amazing!! Thank you so much for the support- We'd love to send a little something for all your support. Feel free to reach out to our team at founders@thursdayboots.com. Be sure to mention this review. Looking forward to hearing from you! Best, Kendra from Thursday
David, what are the styles of Thursday boots you own? I have captains, I am thinking of getting their double monk strap shoes.
@@asadinayat1993 Hello Asad!
I own a total of 5 pairs, all boots. I really like the rugged & resilient line as well. I recently purchased the Diplomat Moc toe in Arizona Adobe for a work style boot. I really love it so far...very durable.
I don't own any shoes from Thursday, but I'm planning on buying a pair in the future.
@@asadinayat1993 One pair of brown Presidents.
One pair of Captains in the Rugged and Resilient (Copper)
One pair of Captains in the Olive Suede
One pair of Matte Black Captains in the Rugged and Resilient.
One pair of Diplomats in Arizona Adobe.
I would love to see a deep dive / tear apart of Nisolo boots. Specifically the All Weather lace up boots but really any :) thanks guys. Love the videos!
Awesome videos. I've never seen a reviewer literally take shoes apart.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed. Check out some of our other reviews if you haven’t had a chance yet.
Another channel which has been doing this recently is Rose Anvil. He's a leatherworker, not a cobbler, so he comes at it from a slightly different angle, but he cuts the boots in half to show the cross-section. He's done belts and wallets as well.
Amazing detailed review. Impressed by your knowledge in the area. Liked and subscribed. Could you let me know how to make a boot / shoe more comfortable with a diy insole ?
Just bought the black captain boots. After seeing you tear them apart, you can tell they are quality. Thanks for the wonderful review.
How do you like them. Thinking of getting the coffee brown ones.
Ooo I would love to see a review and tear down of the Margiela Tabi Boots, I'm so wary of trendy boots and their lifespan/build quality.
I just ordered a pair of presidents...super excited to get them...got my presidents today...the free shipping to Canada was nice and only took 6 days...my first impressions with them out of the box were excellent...beautiful construction and materials...got the natural leather colour 1/2 size down perfect fit...wore them for 4 hours first day and impressed with the comfort and fit...all the positive reviews I have read about these boots made me buy them and I’m glad I did...
Enjoy your boots Dave! Welcome to the Team! Best, Kendra from Thursday
Well...I've been wearing my Thursday boots for almost 2 months and I have to say I am very pleased with them..it took a week or 2 to break them in and now they are super comfortable..no issues at all...I would highly recommend them to anyone ...one of my best boot purchases ever!
@@davel2734 Perfect :) !
Awesome review I have a pair myself and I love them.
Great review, love your perspective!
Great review! I feel very good about my purchase now.
Okay Trenton, I took the plunge and ordered a pair of Thursdays today...I hope I am happy with them. It's my first boots I ordered on line...I am going by your review of Thursday boots..
I own several pairs of Thursday boots every model has been excellent. I have the captain in different colors, diplomat and the wingtips boots. All superior quality and comfort. I highly recommend them.
After watching I actually bought a pair. Though mine are whiskey brown with a Storm King style lug sole which being in the snowy salty North east is IMO the better choice for me.
Great choice
Was thinking about getting these as my first boot. Im now fully confident my money will be worth it!
Very helpful visual-- thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed! You’re welcome.
Thursdays should sponsor you guys lol. You guys do a great way of explaining the OVERALL quality of the shoe and it’s entirety. Love love love the vids, it really does helps me better understand quality within a pair of shoes as well as explaining to people references to great companies
Thank you guys for the great content and information👍
Thanks so much, Justin! It's good to hear that our videos are helping out. We try our best to get to as many shoes/boots as possible and to give you guys and gals our best opinions on whats worth your money and what's not. We really appreciate you watching!
Thank you so much for doing this video. I really like the Thursday captain. Do you have any opinion about NPS boots from England? Maybe you could get a pair of Gladstones for a video. Love you videos. Thank you for making them!
From what I understand the main advantage of kevlar is that they are heat resistant.
I have a pair of Captains in matte black. They are a hamdsome pair of boots and they are comfortable for a day's wear, but my included laces started fray almost immediately and the right show squeaks. They are good shoes, on the whole.
ah man, you are killing me taking these apart LOL Smh but its good to know how they are constructed
i believe the minimal cork is just for a bit of sweat absorption and moisture wicking
Kevlar laces is used in a lot of high end safety boots and I see it used a lot in firefighting boots especially woodland fire boots as an alternative to leather laces.
These look really good for the money. I'll be in a position to buy a decent pair of boots soon though the budget isn't unlimited. Paying $200-$300 for a well made pair of boots that I can then have re-soled when needed seems like a better value than getting cheap ones that are disposable and need replacing every 6 months. Are there any other work boots in that range (as opposed to dress boots)
This was a pretty good review with nice insight into the boots. The Captains look great and Thursday Boots makes fantastic boots. I would have appreciated the video more though if he had stopped moving around so much while talking and held the boots still so that the camera would have time to focus on the boots and we could get a cleaner view of them. The only times I could really look at the boots were when they were on the cobbler stand or sitting on a table. While holding the boots, he kept waving his hands in front of them or moving the boots around and dropping them below the field of view. Those aside, I liked the video. Thanks for offering it.
I just ordered mine pair of Captains, thanks for convincing me :)
I had to order online from the US. I love this boots. Wearing it right now on a midnight trip.
Helpful Review, I own a pair of these and they are pretty great so far. Was wondering where you buy your button downs from Trenton? They always look really well fitted with nice stiff collars. Keep the videos coming you channel is awesome guys!
Gavin K Glad you enjoyed, Gavin! Thanks for the compliment regarding my shirts. Honestly, they’re from all over...Gap, JCrew, Ralph Lauren..., but I also buy slim fit or custom fit shirts so that they have more of a tailored look. I hate fly away collars, so if it’s not a button down, I try to use collar stays. Thanks again!
Please a review of Carminas 🙏🏻
Coming up very, very soon!
Very pleased with my brown captains. Follow the advice on sizing and size down, I ordered 'wide' as I'm usually an E in Allen Edmonds, but definitely would have been better with standard. And length/size is 1/2 size smaller than most of my shoes as well. Overall good construction and good customer service. Received compliments wearing from the staff in the Allen Edmonds store, actually. Also - thank you for the great videos and reviews, I've learned a lot and look forward to supporting P&S directly with future purchases... much appreciated!
d g Thank you so much for your commentary on sizing, looks, etc.! This definitely helps others out as well. We really appreciate you watching and following along! Please let us know if there’s anything we can ever do to help.
Ankari Floruss makes great shoes. Would definitely love to see your opinion on them
Thank for the thorough review. I got a pair of the wingtip version and couldn’t believe the ten steps break in period. Wow! I wear them riding my H-D and got caught in the rain to often, no harm done ! More comfortable than I thought could be. I’ll be getting more versions soon. Your new subscriber.
Gregory Glad you’re enjoying them! We were quite pleased with them as well.
I'm also looking too buy them for riding my Harley. How have they held up?
Jake Tester Iron Rangers will hold up much better.
Mine have worked very well.
I shift with the sole only
I prefer them over rougher boots for the lightness-comfort
Dr Zaius, that of course depends on how you treat your boots in wearing and caring. There are many good boots these work very well for me
I have to agree, the Thursday boots felt super comfortable right out of the box.
I pulled the trigger on a Thursday Wingtips color #77.. while watching this vid... tq so much guys.
Amazing review and thank you! Cheers 🥂
This is an awesome video! Very informative info from a shoe professional.
Thank you :)
I'd love to see a review on the Danner Bull Run moc toe work boots. Loved my Danners while I was in the Marine Corps and was wondering if the build quality is still the same
Suplex Cotton that'd be great. FWIW, my Danner work boots are awesome, & my job is rough on boots. I find my Thorogood's a little more comfortable, but ymmv. Thorogood, Danner, Carolina & now again Georgia, make excellent US work boots w/ goodyear welts. Haven't had good luck w/ Chippewa & Redwing isn't what it used to be.
Suplex Cotton Stridewise doesn't review work boots, but has reviewed the soft toe Danners & Thorogoods. His reference is style, but is knowledgeable about quality & rates both high on value.
Very nice review, I'll definitely pick these up now. Would you guys also look into doing one on the company named Oro Los Angeles? Thanks again for the great review
Excellent inside out review...purchased a pair of captain after seeing your review. What are your thoughts(excellent ,good or ok?)on thursday explorer.Would love to see your next review on thursday explorer.Merry Christmas.
Thanks for the informative review. What is your professional opinion regarding the leather used for the uppers? Moreover, if you have a professional opinion regarding the quality of the leather that they use on their non-suede boots, that would be great.
Your review on Thursday boots has been very informative. Would you call these dress boots? I don’t see the Captain model as being a work boot in the same vein as Redwing or Wolverine. Am I on point here?
Good review, thanks
Donald
Hi! Thank you for making great reviews that are very helpful for us before we purchase. May I ask if I really have to half size down for these Thursday Captain or the President model boots? Can you compare the sizing with Beckett Simonon dress shoes? I ordered a size 10.5 with my dress shoes with Beckett Simonon which is my sneaker and true to size. Appreciate your advise.
Hello from Auburn, AL, and thanks for great & informative videos. What do you think about these Thursday Captain boots vs. a similar offering from Allen Edmonds, such as the Alpine Cap-Toe? I have worn Allen Edmond's throughout my entire career and my first pair still looks great, albeit in need of a resole, but the Thursday's really caught my eye with both their style and everyone's comment's on their quality.
I would suggest tearing apart a pair of Georgia Boot farm and Ranches. I would love to find out why at the 6 month mark the sole of my last pair split right under the ball of my foot!
I’m sold! Definitely buying some Thursday Boots
Thanks for the review!!!
I love Thursday Boots. I have a pair of the Scout chukkas. The Captain is going to be my next purchase.
Appreciate the review. Surprised you didn't discuss whether the boot has a shank.
So many positive comments on the Thursday boots 🥾 makes one wonder if they are all being honest and giving an unbiased opinion. I just ordered a pair of Captain boots after over a year of contemplating . I also purchased ankle boots from the 1000 mile collection in order to compare quality. I will keep one UNLESS they’re both phenomenal.
꧁ Orlando Cruz ꧂ I own both Thursday’s and 1000 Miles. I wear both to work everyday in the fall/winter months and am obviously on my feet all day. Both boots have worn well. I’m not someone that treks hundreds of miles a year walking in them, so I can’t say how they would both hold up under those situations; however, both are constructed well. That’s just my opinion.
Excellent & informative video. I have 2 questions: 1) How accurate is boot size measurement? I see lots of comments about various boots where the size ordered is way too big. 2) Do you have knowledge or opinion on Sperry Gold Cup boots in terms of quality, construction, etc. compared to Thurs. Boots and others? Thank you! Looking forward to more vids like this.
Oh I want a pair now no doubt!!
Order placed! Thanks for the insight
I live in boots. I'm a truck driver. Lots of construction sites railroads steel Mills. Steel toe water proof a must. And clean up for Sunday church. I love my Carhartt Wellington's. How often should I clean/waterproof. I can get about 2 yrs out of a pair wearing the 5 6 days a week.
Been wearing my captains and tobacco storm kings over two years and still going strong not an issue
Thanks for the video. would you put a heel saver on them to prolong the life of the heel?
Thank you so much for the breakdown. Although they’re obviously not the best of the best, they do seem to represent great value. If I may ask one question: What do you use to condition your pair of captains? They seem to be one’s with their rugged leather uppers and in their website they state that no conditioning is needed for that kind of leather (which is hard to believe). I believe the Tobacco, Arizona, and Terracota colors are the ones that use that kind of rugged leather instead of their ThursdayChrome leather.
German Trujillo Yep, mine are the rugged ones as well. They may say that, but most leathers need some sort of conditioning and care or else they dry out and crack. I use Saphir Renovateur spray on mine. It’s made for suedes and other leathers that can’t take conditioners directly without ruining the finish, and it also has a waterproofer in it, since we can’t use wax. potterandsons.com/collections/merchandise/products/saphir-suede-renovateur
Trenton & Heath Thank you so much for the reply! I will be using this as well. Keep up the great content, guys!
Curious what are the top 3 boots quality? I'm not really educated on boots....all I really know are Red Wings
@@quktic Danners are some of the toughest and most comfortable boots I've ever owned. I put mine through the ringer in the Marines and they held up to the task well
Hi Trenton! Thanks for the review. You mentioned you had a pair of Thursday boots. Have you experienced the so called “Thursday drop” that some people have mentioned?
What's the "Thursday drop"?
I just got a pair of AE shoes and for someone with foot pain and back problems they have been the most comfortable thing I have tried on and I wear them all the time. I can't hike in them or use them for work. What are the options for a cork footbed? I am considering Thursday, but since they layer synthetic materials I am afraid in months that will just break down and not provide the support I need. I would have to have a cobbler replace all that with cork before the soles even wear out.
Kevlar is used in bowstrings so it's no surprise it's found it's way into laces too.
Kevlar, in the laces, is a name brand. Aramid Fiber is the material. It's the yellow fabric in most motorcycle jeans and jackets. Kevlar plating is the bulletproof stuff, but the fiber is highly abrasion resistant. The denim on the jeans may wear away in a slide on the road, but the aramid fiber is what saves your skin. In laces, they give longevity and strength.
Hi! Loved the video so much that I purchased a pair of Thursday boots. Can these rubber soles of the Thursday Boots be replaced with leather soles?
I would love to see you guys do this type of a review with Tecovas boots. Please make it happen!
Hey guys, thanks for an awesome review. I'm thinking about buying a pair of Thursdays but I live in Sweden and the total amount will be 299 USD (delivery, taxes etc). Do you still think it is worth it?
Best,
Oskar
Thanks for "taking it apart" with respect for the boot. Another channel claimed they were taking a boot apart, and he just took a knife to the upper and sliced it up! I was a bit horrified!
fredy gump Thanks! Glad you enjoyed. Yep, on this channel, any boot/shoe taken apart for a review gets put right back together in the same shape or better.
That sounds like something what’s inside would do 🤦🏻♀️😬
I have these Thursday boots and love them. I prefer them to Red Wing. I've been trying for years to "upgrade" to the Iron Rangers since they're so iconic. But I could never find my right size. Even trying two adjacent sizes back to back. The larger one was like a huge clown shoe with my foot swimming. The next size down felt nice and snug but was actually too short in length and didn't bend right. It's because the Iron Rangers have a large toe box, and I have a low, flat instep with a long heel to ball length. My foot wants a long narrow boot, and the Thursday Captain fits much nicer. Not to mention the padding and comfort. I had two pairs of Iron Rangers in front of me and the Thursday Captains, and I came to this video to make sure I wasn't crazy. I returned both Red Wings.
