    Umm, Katie, we need to talk about the fact you haven't seen Jaws :) Aside from being perhaps the best movie ever made, it's the source from which every 70s/80s animal attack exploitation movie derives. Without Jaws, no Piranha, no Grizzly, no Orca, no Alligator, ...

    I always said that Stagefright is not a giallo. It's like the Italian version of Halloween. I don't always go by what Wikipedia says.
    As a woman, I enjoyed Contraband. It's my 3rd favorite Fulci film. I just love Fabio Testi. My favorite film of his is Red Rings of Fear but his best film is The Big Racket. Another hard watch, with 2 scenes of youknowwhat. I think Contraband had 1 of those scenes.
    According to the director, Evil Dead 2013 is not a remake.

    i use to love Stage fright, but sometimes like most things I am really into it and other times not so much. Not a lot of films I can watch over and over and over and over again and love every single time. Except for very few. It isn't a giallo though. But ya, I love Stage fright. It's very well done. My only issue with Stage fright is the ending. I always thought to my self "I wish I could cut that last 20 seconds out of the movie." when the killer opens his eyes and looks at the camera and we hear the janitor repeating the same thing about the safety on the gun.
    Not a big fan of Evil dead. I like part 2 and 3. I rarely watch them though.
    Part 1 just felt so amatuer. Was not a fan of Evil dead rise. I found it pretty damn boring to be honest. Hollow.
    I found the characters to be incredibly boring and half baked, and overall just too modern and boring.
    Not a Saw fan, never have been. I watched the first movie, didn't like it. Watched Saw 2, again didn't like it.
    I decided to see what "Barbenheimmer" was all about. So I watched Barbie and then Oppenheimer...Did not like Barbie, although it wasn't that bad. I mean, I liked some things about it, but overall just too modern for my tastes. I can go on and on, Oppenheimer...I kind of liked it, but It's a Nolan movie and I am not a fan of Nolan movies.
    One of the best movies I've watched so far is Cinderella 2000 from the 70's. I loved it. Which as a very low rating on IMDB. People must be nuts!!!!
    I also watched Vicious lips from the 80's. Wasn't great, but it was pretty damn entertaining. Another "best movie" that I loved was a 1970's Japanese movie called The man who stole the sun. I loved it. Incredibly nihilistic.
    I also rewatched The mask of Zorro from the 90's. I saw in the theaters when it came out and damn, it's better then I remembered. I really loved it. I hadn't seen it since the 90's. i used to be obsessed with Zorro as a kid, so I decided to give it a rewatch all these years and I immediately remembered why I loved Zorro so much. He's basically a James Bond and Batman character mixed into one and is a period piece. I use to watch the show all the time, and I did rewatch a single episode last year and again was like "It's all coming back to me." Watched 2 precode movies from the 30's. Both of which were pretty damn disturbing and very dark. I was shocked at how dark those two films were. Watched a post code movie from the 60's. Which wasn't very good at all and probably some other movies I can't remember.
    Been watching season 2 of Eight is enough. Watched some Square pegs episodes. Pretty much it.
    Oh, and you haven't seen Jaws?! Damn, Jaws is one of the best movies ever made. Jaws is the rare film I can watch and love every single time I watch it. That film is perfect.
    Love the kitten, baby. I have two Kitten, babies of my own. One baby, puppy and one baby, goat and in case your confused. I call all dogs, cats, goats, any pets "babies", because "they'll always be a baby to me..." They can be 100 years old and I'd still call them "babies". Was afraid for my goat during the winter, but she's doing good. I always call her "my baby goat" in a fake scottish accent. So ya, very cute baby, kitten. Is it a she or he?

      StageFright is sort of a 'remake' of the rarely seen British horror film The Flesh and Blood Show (1972), about a group of young actors rehearsing in an old closed seaside theater getting killed one by one. Not a Saw fan myself either, I did quite like the first one but 2 and 3 are dreck in my opinion. Agree on Jaws, a masterpiece.

    Yes I heard it was bad but part 3 is good to me though

  • @markalexander3659
    @markalexander3659 7 місяців тому

    Yeah, I'd say StageFright is primarily a slasher, but I guessss it fits as a giallo? I supposed movies like A Bay of Blood and The New York Ripper are very slashery, too.
    I really didn't like Exorcist: Believer either...I don't know anybody who did and yet it's already gonna be a trilogy *sigh*. The final exorcism scene was more black comedy than scary to me. I just felt the girls acting possessed came across as goofy. It they did Chris McNeil (Regans mother) soooo dirty. Ellen Burstyn is one of my all-time favourite actors in terms of acting talent (her as Sara Goldfarb in Requiem for a Dream is maybe the best acting I have ever seen) and she was so wasted on this movie. I will say in her defense is that she needed the money to fund a free acting school for young talent who couldn't afford to pay exorbitant Uni fees normally required, which was nice.
    But Hollywood REALLy needs to stop DESPERATELY trying to milk every successful movie and franchise for all they can, churning out completely unneeded and shitty.lazy sequels, prequels and remakes. If you're at all interested in the Exorcist series, the only movie worth watching besides the original is The Exorcist 3, which is *le gaspe!* really GOOD! It is based on a novel by William Peter Blatty who also wrote the novel The Exorcist is based on is maybe why.
    Okay, I am officially sending you to Baby Oopsie Rehab. Wait, you're not supposed to tell the person first for an Intervention...never mind. If A&E give you a call about being in a documentary about addiction, I promise it's not "Intervention" ;)
    Saw X is probably the best Saw sequel IMO. Loved it. And they people in the traps ACTUALLY deserved it...unlike in some of the other sequels where we get someone in a trap for loving their job...and a woman in a trap because she's on anti-depressants etc
    Oh, I justttt finished watching Obsession: A Taste for Fear a couple hours ago. I quite enjoyed it, but definitely could have done with more kills.
    I LOVE White Chicks!

      "My Strange Obsession: Baby Oopsie" episode! hahaha. I loved reading all your thoughts here! I understand why hollywood does it but yeah they're kinda sucking our beloved universes dry aren't they? part of me thinks that maybe some of these will age better and people will look back on them with nostalgia? or maybe this will be considered a dark age of horror. Or maybe hollywood should just stick to superhero movies and leave us alone, idk!
      that's awesome you just watched obsession!! yay!

    Hi Katie! I also hated "The Exorcist: Believer" and, actually, I really hope the studios stop giving David Gordon Green the reigns to resuscitate (screw up) beloved horror properties! Not everything needs to be a franchise. The original "The Exorcist" is a masterpiece in my book. All the other sequels and prequels are junk, with the exception of "The Exorcist III", which is pretty good and has some great scares in it. I also 100% agree with you about the stupidity of their needing to create a kumbaya, equal-opportunity faith circle to defeat the evil. That was gutless, lame and calculated, and totally sapped the sequence of any believability and power. I have no problem with Catholic-themed horror. It works. I also find it very interesting and intriguing when a movie focuses on a different religion or cultural background to combat supernatural evil, as long as it's ONE specific belief system. A perfect example that I really liked is last year's "It Lives Inside", which focuses on Indian mythology and religion. When they mix the faiths up, it kind of neuters the whole thing.

    • @KatieoftheNight
      @KatieoftheNight  7 місяців тому +1

      GUTLESS! What a great word! I mean i do believe that a huge spectrum of faiths have the power to combat negativity but like, that's not what i wanna see in a horror movie! haha. I have been hearing Exorcist 3 is good, i'll have to check it out. I did not see It Lives Inside but I remember the trailers!

    I also recently saw the Evil Dead remake and Evil Dead Rise and liked both. The first Evil Dead is still my favorite.
    I like Contraband but can agree with you that it is more of a guy movie. I also have not seen it in a while.
    I rewatched the original My Bloody Valentine(for Valentines Day of course), Black Mama White Mama, The Prowler(Tom Savini rules)
    As for stuff that I have not seen before I watched The Unholy Rollers a Roger Corman movie about roller derby that I liked but it’s not a hard recommendation. It’s pretty rough. I also saw Sheba Baby with Pam Grier but that one started off slow but got better at the end. Her other movies are better.

    On another note, I also love both "Evil Dead" from 2013 and "Evil Dead Rise". Actually, I read one pundit who said that the Evil Dead is one of the only classic horror properties that's never had a bad movie (yet), and I think that's totally true! Some are more comedic or different than others, but all of them are good in my opinion.

    Speaking of religious horror it is tiring that alot of it centers Christianity (specifically Catholicism) and i get that writers have said Catholicism tends to lend itself to horror writing and alot of people especially here in America are Christian (especially Catholic if they're not any other sect) but it would be interesting to see more types of religious horror (like Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, etc.) especially with people from said non Christian religions writing them. I get alot of media does come from here but it is kind of tiring to have SO MUCH Christian centric horror which lends itself to how Christians can portray Christianity as the end all-be all religion

    • @LarryFleetwood8675
      @LarryFleetwood8675 7 місяців тому +1

      I wonder how it'd fly in today's geopolitical climate though to have horror mixed with other faiths, how some followers would react to having their religious figures used as entertainment one might say we have real life horror already in terms of terrorism in the name of religion, it might be dangerous. Just think of Life of Brian (1979), not horror but - shudder - comedy which may be seen as even worse today thus (also) couldn't be made. Maybe. Pretty sad world these days, how some topics now seem off limit for filmmakers.

    • @devonmunn5728
      @devonmunn5728 7 місяців тому

      @@LarryFleetwood8675 It probably would end up being offensive if poorly done and badly researched. If done well, especially if you have people of said religion behind the cameras like for the horror film The Vigil which had a Jewish cast and a Jewish writer/director and it was well received

    Fun video, have to agree with you on Stage Freight not being a Giallo. It could be a Giallo if the murderer was unknown until the end, but the murderer is known. It would be a better film if the murderer was one of the peripheral figures., but it has been a long time since I saw the film. Your videos are always welcome, and your adoring public would welcome a daily installment. You need to tell us more about Rome. Which Rome did you like best? the secular or the spiritual, the ancient, renaissance, or modern.
