Katie! Thank you so much for the shout out and review! I've said this before talking to you, but I'm really glad you enjoyed the movie and resonated with it. Thanks again.

Masque of the Red Death is such a beautiful film, the use of colour is stunning. I highly recommend all of the Corman Poe adaptations. But oh my lord, you have to watch Vincent Price in the very dark but very funny comedy horror Theatre of Blood!!!

The Masque of the red death is a classic. I got it on blu-ray and it had all these little art cards in it.

Masque of the Red Death is a total classic, the best of the Corman Poe movies and VP’s best performance. I must have seen it 20 times. The Pit and the Pendulum is also worth looking out for, it’s scarier but not as visually stunning.

HI Jeremy!! Oh it was my pleasure. I loved watching it and loved y'all's Q&A afterwards. I wish I'd elaborated more in this video but I was on a time limit, haha. Thank you for watching!
I loved hearing about how the film was basically written around the location. I love when movies are created within a certain kind of constraint like that. And I'd also like to say that the part of the movie I was MOST disturbed was when (not to be too spoilery..... SPOILER ALERT)....
Randy was found in the bathtub.
      Wishing you all the success!!!

Was anticipating your answer/response to Hospital massacre aka X ray. Love that movie....and you didn't like it.
I love it. As a hypochondriac and child of the children's ward, I love it. "I think one thing the film did really well was tap into medical fear." Absolutely, that's why I love it, besides of course Barbi Benton who is awesome in it! Always love Barbi Benton in the movie. How could you not like her?! To me, the film is a surrealistic, medical paranoia, nightmare film and I love it for that. I watch it often enough as a Valentine's day movie. Every 2-3 years I'll watch it. As a child living in the hospital for several years, of course there was that confusion and fear. Not knowing why I was there. I was too young to understand. At the same time, it was kind of fun and I have nostalgia for hospitals. So ya, Hospital massacre is one of my favorite slasher movies. Also, some of the directing I think is really good.
I watched Masque of the red death in 2020 as part of my 2020 pandemic movie marathon. Where I watched a ton of pandemic/killer virus type movies, or something similar to that.
    I loved it.
I also gave Untold story a watch after doing some search into the case that "inspired it". That was back in like 2012, 2013.
I am just not into FICTIONAL movies that are "inspired by" true crime. I got documentaries and books for that. Why WASTE MY TIME?!
It's a perfect example of why I rarely ever watch any of these movies. I am incredibly picky.
I am a big, big and long time true crime fan. I don't watch a lot of true crime content though. If I do it's documentaries from the BBC, because the Brits know how to do true crime.
So 98% of my true crime content is from books I buy. All physical copies. I don't believe in Ebooks or anything like that. The other 2 percent are documentaries and maybe a good youtube video. I don't do a lot of independent research anymore, unless it's about a case I am already really into.

I remember first noticing Benton in a 1975 episode of McCloud, she played a singer and the featured song "Ain't That Just the Way" became quite a big hit.

@@LarryFleetwood8675 Ya, the first time I watched Hospital massacre I immediately did some research into Barbi Benton and listened to some of her songs. She has a really good voice. So she was definitely multi talented.

Aw I'm glad Xray is meaningful for you. I can definitely see why people would like it, despite (or even because of) its imperfections. Masque would have been a perfect fit for the height of the pandemic!
Ya know, im not typically into movies inspired by true crime either. But i was just more interested to see a hong kong horror movie to get a sample of it. Plus I had just learned that Macau exists, that's where the crime took place, so I wanted to learn more. lol that was not a good way to learn more.

Vincent Price was a great actor alright, and he was in a ton of movies. Asian movies can be a wild ride. They do not have our Christian background, so it is a different mindset (The Japanese recently banned child p__n.). Life is finite, if a movie is getting under your skin, bail out. You skip one movie, there are plenty more where that came from. I would like to catch a Discord movie, but the time is challenging.

    • @KatieoftheNight
      @KatieoftheNight  2 місяці тому +1

What you say definitely makes a lot of sense. I've never been so thankful for a christian background, lol.

That's so cool that your film made it to a festival! Really happy for you, too, I know doing some acting was something you were wanting to get into. Maybe if a new indie giallo pops up you can be like the next Edwige Fenech!
"It reminded me of, like The Case of the Scorpions Tail, or The Strange Vice of Mrs Wardh" - Oh, I am so sold! (oh, cool, it's on youtube, too!)
I didn't like X-Ray/Hospital Massacre, either...I think I watched it because it's one of the "Video Nasties" and I've been trying to make my way through all of them (plus the "supplementary" ones, so there's like 165 total). I was disinterested enough that I ended up playing on my switch for like the majority of the second half 'cause I didn't wanna DNF it, but I didn't really care what happened.
Schizoid is on my slashers TBW list, but giving the list a rest for now as I tend not to watch slashers and gialli at the same time as they can be similar.
If you liked Dr Phibes, the sequel is supposed to be pretty good, too, but I've only seen the first one.
Glad to hear Masque of the Read Death was a fun watch! I've read the story, but never seen a movie adaptation of it.
Have to admit, I *was* pretty concerned we'd gotten so far into a "what I watched.." and there had not been a single mention of Baby Oopsie
"I listen to a lot of dark and disturbing stuff on UA-cam" - do you watch HannahTheHorrible by any chance?
Is Untold Story the one about the guy deliberately giving people Ebola? Or am I thinking of something else?
I know exactly what you mean, rape scenes bother me when the movie tries to make them seem, like...sexy? There is NOTHING sexy about rape..

OH i haven't tried hannah the horrible! Looks interesting! I get picky about voices n stuff. But I love Nexpo, Nick Crowley, Mr Nightmare, Lazy Masquerade, Cadaber, Virtual Carbon, Barely Sociable, BlameitonJorge, etc! Always trying to find new ones because I binge so hard lol.
the untold story was based on a case about a guy in Macau who killed a family and took over their restaurant, and the rumor was that he was actually serving the family as food to patrons (though that was just a rumor)

Oh no - Hong Kong Cat III films like 'Untold Story' are NOT something you want to go into unprepared for! There are some tamer ones (at least with respect to that sort of content) that you could start with if you wanted to explore that world a bit - 'Robotrix' and 'Black Cat' are essentially just very violent (but stylish) girls-with-guns movies, and 'The Story of Ricky/Ricky-Oh' is amazing and unlike pretty much anything else I've seen. 'The Seventh Curse' is not a Cat III film but skirts the line sometimes, and it's an absolute blast - kind of like a martial arts Indiana Jones-meets-Dungeons and Dragons movie.

I am right there with you on X-Ray. It was my lowest rated movie on Letterboxd last year. I couldn't stand it. I am ashamed to admit that I haven't watched Baby Oopsie. I have watched Dollman vs Demonic Toys and I didn't enjoy it, so I didn't watch Baby Oopsie. I need to correct that, it's on my watchlist, maybe this week. I also need to check out Fatal Frames. I keep waiting to see if it streams, but I am going to have to buy the dvd.

I can understand why Dollman vs Toys made you uninterested in further sequels. Baby Oopsie was a true redemption for the Demonic Toys series!
Unfortunately Fatal Frames remains elusive. I hate that it's so unavailable for streaming! I know I talk about the movie a lot, but please be warned that a lot of people freaking hate it. Many people were wildly disappointed in the watch party - BUT!!!! it was fun, and funny, at the very least.
