The 80s were a golden age for television shows, and many of these shows are still cherished as timeless classics that rule over the hearts of cartoon lovers. One such show was 'Thundercats,' a show that followed the lives of four Thundercats who moved to a new planet after their home had been destroyed. Though it was a 'kid's show,' it was quite loved by audiences of all ages and had many exciting elements that made it a thoroughly enjoyable show. Created in 1985 by Tobin Wolf, 'Thundercats soon became a cult classic among cartoons of that time. It left behind quite a legacy and was even rebooted later on in 2011. However, the 80s version of the show arguably remains to be the best one. yes definitely. the intro song (which iirc also plays when lion-o is using sword of omens for combat) and the thunder tank theme song.
it sounded so badass when i was a kid. even the boring episodes become lively once the music starts playing.
sadly they didn't use these music in the reboot.
I lift weights to the metal version of the theme song.
Mum-Ra was one of if not the most terrifying bad guys on cartoons during my childhood.
Too bad the good animation was saved for the intro only...

@@adr4546 you are wrong, it was a weekly cartoon, there were 64 episodes in week one. The original poster was right. No 1st season of any Saturday morning cartoon ever lasted that long, next time time.

Animation subpar? The original animation is awesome and stands up very well many years after the show ended!! The reason a lot of 80s cartoon shows stand up well above today's shows is the fact that the animation is well done and hard to forget, Thundercats animation stayed pretty consistent throughout its run, while others went downhill due to budgets! I bet the 80s Thundercats would easily give a lot of today's shows a run for their money, I say today's western cartoons have decreased in quality and tend to rely on CGI, heavily, back then it was hand drawn and that has helped it to stay awesome!!

What no introduction for Wiley kit and kat. They were part of the team as much as anyone else.
It's "Wilykit" & "Wilykat". Not "THE Willykit & Willykat". Also, they didn't accompany the Thundercats nobles. They were nobles as well.

Jeez, I know... When people narrate a video on a show and mispronounce names like this, it makes you wonder if they even watched the show, even though he continues on and puts in clips and a timeline, etc. indicating that indeed he has watched the show.

the thundercats reboot was starting to get good near the end of season 1 before they canceled it. coz earlier episodes after the pilot episode were mostly trash filler episodes where lion-o is taught "valuable lessons" only to forget stuff he learned the next episode.
the 80s "educational" cartoon format was crap, the only saving grace of these cartoons are the lore and the concept, and these is what fuels the nostalgia.
Pirates of Dark Water was one of my favorite shows

Wow... the animation might be old by today's standards, BUT it still looks leagues better than what comes out lately. Not saying the animation quality is the only thing, because it still looks amazing for me, but great animation just makes it more enjoyable, but the main thing is the STORY that makes it so entertaining.

Timeless character designs. Some TCats episodes have higher quality Japanese animation. Today's politicized Woke cartoons have a lazy Cal Arts forgettable style.

Uhm… the Mutants and Mum-Ra were also on 3rd earth, not another planet.
The Mutants eventually build a base on 3rd earth.
Mum-Ra’s Temple has been on 3rd earth for ages.
The mutants were from Plundaar and Mumm-Ra was a cursed pharaoh forced to spend eternity this way since Third Earth was still first Earth.

And the voice. Lynne Lipton was that character, along with the eyes, eye shadow, and athletic build.

It should look REAL like AVATAR. When I saw Avatar 13 years ago one of the first thoughts to hit my head was that they could use that technology to make a Thundercats movie. Transformers got 6 movies.
i agree!! The fact that we got "Cat like" faced Humanoids (but you could still see the actor/actresses facial performance AND resemblace) from another planet, all i thought was and still think when i reawatch AVATAR, "THATS how Thundercats facial designs should be on a big budget movie
you keep missing Willie Kat and Willie Kit, the two youngest Thunder Cats which accompanied Lion-O to Third Earth, they are considered to be of Royal Lineage which is explained in the very first episode Exodus that Panthro, Cheetarah, Tigra, Willie Kit, and Willie Kat are considered to be higher rank in lineage for thunder cats. In season three Lion-o rescues 3 more thundercats from pirates but these three are not of royal lineage which is why they were confused that Lion-O would risk his life for theirs and even give them upgraded status as royals after being rescued.
This took me back to my childhood. Thank you so much. Keep up the good work.
Cool video but didn't give any love for Wilykit, Wilykat and Snarf that were an important part of the series. The Thunderkittens were even integral part of Lion-O trials to become the Lord of The Thundercats.
Plus forgot to mention the 3 members that joined the team later on: Bengali, Lynx-O and Pumyra.
And just bit of correction, the planet was know as Third Earth not Earth 3. Just a small detail.
There were quite a few errors in the 5 mins I've gotten thru. But the more hearts and minds on TC the better the chance we get to see them again.
What doesn't make sense is that Lion-O ages to an adult on the way to Third Earth but Wily Kit & Kat never age
@@RoqueFortStu I could be wrong, but I think one comic of Thundercats said that the reason Lion-O age was becuase his pod eventually malfunction on the way to 3rd Earth. That's why none of the other Thundercats age, including the Thunderkittens.

@@juanmiguel4975 that would make sense, but I don't think it was mentioned in the show. In an early episode Tygra is nearly aged to death in the cave of time, while in later episodes we have the canyon of youth which does the opposite. So, there definitely is artificial ageing
I enjoyed both versions.
The original was better because it had lots more espiodes.
So you got to see more.
The reboot was interesting just wish it had lasted longer.

To say this the series deserves a comeback is an understatement. That Thundercats Roar was total BS and an insult to the franchise and for the creators of that crap to insult fans of the 80s series is a serious violation.

When artists had to do cells, hand painted and recorded panel by panel. You had to know how to draw, no reliance on software that compensates for you.
I use to wait patiently every Saturday morning for that classic intro and my favourite childhood cartoon to start !

I wasnt a big fan of Thundercats, but i religiously watched the show (including reruns) and had the OG Lion- O figure (light up eyes). What got me watching... the intro.
Thundercats is one of the best 80's cartoon ever made. Panthro is my favorite Thundercat because he was awesome with the nunchucks.😀

Recently rewatched both original and reboot, and yeah, the reboot is really good.

Firstly I love your voice and you did get most things right however there were seven (7) Thundercats not four. And the dark blue one is called Panthro not Panthera. And the planet they land on is Third earth not earth three.

Why is it arguably the best one? I don't remember the old episodes but I have watched the 2011 series and I think it is much better more comprehensible and with mature themes.
In Greece in the late 80s there was nothing else to watch all week, this makes the 80s series legendary but not better.

I love and miss how cartoons used to spend a decent budget on music. I always loved how each character had their own theme music. Jaga and Tigra we're my favorite mucic.
My 3 and 5 year old are addicted to the show just like I was in the 80’s. Wish there was merch available for kids still. They brought back He-Man and hope they do the same for Thundercats too. No woke politics please.

I found a vintage ljn plush snarf in 2019, he now sits on my bedside table. snayayayayrf. heeheheh I loved snarf back then, and still do now. i've rewatched all the thundercats episodes from the 80s and they are still good today. Oh and Snarfer's hillarious too.
All cartoons back then was to sell toys they were basically half an hour ads and the creators of the Shows said it on The Netflix show The Toys That Made Us.
I love Thundercats they made these humanoid cats look very exotic I like the new version too only I didn't like that they made Tygra a jerk plus made him mean, bitter & jealous of Lion-O because he is the real heir to the throne. And I didn't like they made Cheetara a manipulative seductress who played with Lion-O's feelings when she is clearly in love with Tygra these 3 thunderians were good friends in the original they should've kept it that way in the new version. Although in the comics Tygra & Cheetara did get married & have kids while Lion-O focused on being a good leader for his people. If they do a live version I don't know why but I picture Idris Elba or Winston Duke as Panthro.

At the end of the day though when Lion-O uses the Sword Of Omens to summon the rest of the Thundercats it becomes a bunch of cats chasing a laser pointer.

I wouldn't say it's a cult classic. Usually that's reserved for something that wasn't greatly received but have a following that adore and keep the memory going . This show was really loved by most kids who saw it. I don't remember the toys being that great though. I loved the show as well as most of my friends but the figures weren't really something we were looking for or trying to get. The only thing I remember that we thought was cool was the sword and some of my friends had the plastic sword to play with.
The artstyle reminds me of the old Hobbit cartoon movie from 1977.
I would love to see a action live movie of the thunder cat's🐈🐈🐈🐆 & g force 🎥

Thundercats did not come on Saturday morning cartoons. It came on weekdays around 4:30 right after He -Man on channel 5 (if you're from New York City)
I really enjoyed the reboot and regret that it didn’t get a chance to continue. It was really just getting warmed up.
I never shown on Saturdays but on weekdays on late noon usually 4:00-4:30pm.

to be fair, I enjoyed the reboot series, what most people don't understand is that, that there are people who do follow the lore as much as possible, and they're open for interpretation for the franchise, and it didn't deserve to be cancelled just because of how it went, I mean honestly, canceling a show is like leaving a story incompleted, and I hate incomplete stories, granted there's going to be a movie of it that's understandable, but I think I would much prefer they continue the reboot series to where they left off.

I thought the reboot was a fun, respectful twist on the original. I honestly think it was meant for the fans that grew up on it that's the grittier nature and the more sensitive themes although obviously it was designed for kids it was an awesome tribute it's a shame the toys didn't sell well killing off future seasons. I think the episode with the plant people,petels I think, was rather beautifully done making jackal man like Hannibal lecter was genius and monkey was brutal savagery. All together I think it was beautifully done in a Star wars twist that set up nicely for the main story
The 2011 version was great remake. I wish netflix would pick it up and finish season 2

I think the reboot could have been as memorable, if it was allowed to continue... I actually enjoyed the reboot. It wasnt the Original. Nothing can be. But it was fun and interesting. And it was darker, I feel, because it was geared towards us that loved Thundercats as kids, not towards kids today.
The first reboot was good but got screwed over by the network, when they could do it cheaper with a ripoff Lego Legends of Chimera
