Thank you for posting these. My mother had breast cancer when I was in college and it was very hard for me (and her). She is now 20 years cancer free. We are very blessed.
Thank you for sharing your story, I am approaching that age where I need to start getting checked. I lost my mother to cancer 11 years ago. Its never easy. Pray for you buddy 🙏🙏🙏
Hey Martin - thank you for the update and the total transparency in your situation! Your advice to all of us mature men is well taken! Thanks you for being such a positive inspiration! I can't wait to see you out there on the roads and trails again!
I've had a doctor tell me I am too young to worry about breast cancer .... this was years ago. I think the mentality with that is changing because age isn't as much as big factor nowadays when it comes to cancer because there are plenty of people in their late 20s and 30s getting it unfortunate. Don't let it get you Martin! You got this. You can beat this. Take care of that mindset. I know you have been going through a lot lately with the passing of your mom but just understand this: you have EVERYTHING within you to beat this! Rooting for you!!!
Thanks for the positive support Daniella, I think the mentality has changed over the years, more folk seem to get cancer nowadays but the recovery rate is much higher as well. Thanks again 👍
Really appreciate how open you are about all of this. I think for others going through this or something similar, hearing you share your journey openly and with a smile will make a massive difference!
So sorry to hear about your mom Martin, my deepest condolences my friend.. a ton you have been dealing with, my prayers continue to go to you and your family. Thank you for the advice and keep encouraged Martin🙏🏾
Keep your head up Martin, It's good that you still have fitness to help keep your mind off of it and to use as your getaway. Everything that is thrown at us in this life will only make us stronger.
My most sincere condolences for your loss. I am praying for you to have a successful operation and speedy recovery. Thank you for sharing this with us!
It's a bit of a surprise the first time you have your prostate checked, isn't it?! You had me laughing as you described the "fingers". I had mine checked a couple of years ago, and will be having a PSA test some time after Easter. Good luck with your op :) You've got a lot going for you; caught it early, but also no weight issues, which often complicates things. Will be thinking of you :)
Thanks Simon, I don't think I'll forget the fingers any time soon 😂 Good to hear your getting your psa checked soon, I hope it's all good. Thanks for your support 👍🏃♂️
You had me chuckling at the finger up bum stuff 😁 Glad you're feeling a bit more upbeat about it mate. While you have your 6 weeks off, I'll tell you about all the running injuries I accumulate in that time, to make you feel better! 😂👍🏻🏃♂️
Thanks Martin for sharing. This will be helpful to many people. Timely and frequent screening is so important. We'll send lots of positive vibes across the pond for a successful surgery and recovery!
Thanks Corriamone, I'm still able to run just at the moment but with a lot going on, I am running less, I suppose I'm trying to ease myself into no running, It might be easier to cope with that way? I'll find out soon enough 👍🏃♂️
Good to see you looking more positive Martin. You have been really tested so far this year mate. But you're not letting it get to you. Stay strong mate! You will get through this! 😎🤘🏻
Sorry for your loss. Best wishes for your treatment and recovery. Hope the rest of your year brings some joy and adventures, maybe a big race or expedition?
Thanks for the support. I do have a race entered for August but I think with my situation at the moment I'll do something more personal FKTish slightly later in the year instead. I'll just need to see how things progress 👍🏃♂️
Thanks for sharing Martin. Definitely a lot to handle and deal with. I’ve had similar experiences in the past with the fingers and leaning over a bed. Prayers for you on a speedy recovery and also for you in regards to the passing of your mother.
Hi Martin, I really do appreciate you sharing your journey. I’m sure many others do as well. I’m still watching all your videos, on the tv, but that makes it hard to comment. So sorry for the loss of your mum. I’ve been told that sometimes during the prostate exam, the doctor might place one hand on your shoulder - as comforting. The real worry is when he puts both his hands on your shoulders 😝🤷♂️ Wayne
Thanks Martin. I am sure that your openness will encourage some blokes who may just have a suspicion that something may be wrong to take action. I guess that you will still be able to get out for a few strolls around Aviemore; "The Determined Walker" perhaps. Wishing you all the best mate.
Thanks Peter, hopefully it might nudge someone towards the Drs. It might get interesting with what I'll be able to upload when I can't run, you're right there might have to be a walk in there somewhere!
I’ve had the Dr’s finger up my bum a fair few times over the years mate 🙈😂 I’ve also had the endoscope camera up there too, it was a strange one alright, I remember walking into the examination room with nothing but a hospital gown on and seeing the Dr along with a nurse who I’m guessing was in her 60’s and thought happy days bet she’s seen it all, nothing to be embarrassed about here, only then to see a lovely blonde haired student nurse hiding behind the door 🙈🙈🙈😂 to be fair once the camera went up I was past caring 😲😳 glad to hear you’ve got a date for your surgery 👍🏻
That's a memorable experience! I wonder if the blonde trainee nurse still looks back on it as well 🤣 Here's hoping in a few weeks it'll be out and recovery starts 👍
@@TheDeterminedRunner I’m sure she’s seen a lot worse by now 🙈 yeah not long to wait 👍🏻👍🏻 then think of all the rubbish programs you’ll be able to watch on Netflix 🤣🤣

Look at the information on You Tube about the psa test. I can relate to the stress. Thanks Joe Thankfully PSA has remained very low since the operation, still struggling with chronic pain and nerve damage but I do have daily exercises and yoga which is helping to improve things. I’m starting to build some runs (finally!), marathon wise I’ve only done 5 but do have 15 ultras under my belt. Great to hear you’ve ran Boston, I try to watch that on tv or stream it when I can, it must have been a great experience! Cheers Martin
@@TheDeterminedRunner It’s good to see that you still get up early. I have been doing psa test at a different place than the doctors office. I also have learned to take days off before the test. My doctor would say that it doesn’t matter if you did exercise before the test. Wrong! I will always remember the recovery information from running a marathon. A rest day for every mile run in the race. Do you check your morning heart rate before the run? Mine has gone down a lot. I have been overtraining!

Hey mate, I know what you are going through as I was diagnosed two years ago with the same. If you need someone to talk to about what you have ahead of you and recovery etc I am happy to do that. Like you are am a trail runner so we share a couple of things in common. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Sometimes it’s easier talking to someone you don’t know about stuff like this.
Thanks for your message Thom, that's really nice of you. I hope things are well with you now? I may well get in touch, I'll see how things go initially after the op, but I'm sure I'll probably have a question. Thanks again 👍

One thing you should be doing right now is pelvic floor muscle exercises daily. You may be aware of this but this is key to a quick recovery after your operation. You will need to do this for the rest of your life.
@@TheDeterminedRunner that’s good. I hope the operation was a success. You will have some down time from running for a few weeks (just from my experience) my focus was to take each day as it comes and you will see small incremental improvements towards your old self. I wish you a speedy recovery.
Thanks for sharing, and thanks for the advise. I will speak to the doc next time I see them which should be soon.
