- Van life often looks, well... like this. After a big land purchase, drilling a well, and traveling to Peru for the month of January, being able to settle into this beautiful desert for slow work days and home made food off-grid feels incredible.

Carry some olive oil infused with lime. It does great when you don’t have fresh. A little goes a long way so it’ll last a long time too!! Love the crock pot chicken for tacos, we make it all the time too!!

OMG I love that you read out loud to Chris. That is such a brilliant bonding exercise and something to adopt. You, my dear girl, inspired my own van build at the tender age of 52. An extension of my tiny house on wheels. Friggin' loving it! I even bought the same pretty hatchet and bow saw as you. Have a foldable fire pit (tip 101). But my dog is smaller 🤣🤣being a toy poodle. Not likely to fend off intruders. A BIG tip, seeing as you are now down to using water containers, you can get a rechargeable pump from Amazon for it. I use one and it is brilliant and the charge lasts a long time. Makes life so much easier! Keep up the good work.
I like crockpots too but I found that a rice cooker can cook just about anything and it cooks much faster. If you are ravenous and can't wait on a crockpot, a rice cooker is your best friend. I never cook rice in it but I cook combo meals... like stews, soups, chili, and any other meal-type food that has a liquid ingredient. Also, I have a steamer basket that I can put inside the rice cooker and steamed veggies are done in what seems like seconds, although I think it's more like 4 to 5 minutes. I have the old fashioned rice steamer that has only 2 settings; COOK and WARM. If you set it on COOK, it will cook until the water is low, then it will automatically switch itself to WARM so that the food doesn't burn.

Your video popped up in my feed, probably because I grew up in Mojave, California, so the algorithm led me here. Mojave desert is vast, so you may not be near the town of Mojave, but if you are, there are some beautiful areas to explore! Enjoy!
You should’ve tried an Insta pot because you can do everything in it from frying to slow cooking, pressure cooking & with pressure cooking you are cooking your meat so darn quickly and it’s so unbelievably tender. You might even find out that you could get rid of your stove. I have also heard that you can find them at thrift stores all the time. Just an idea! I love to see a smile on your face. 😊
Linnea, I LOVE limes! I put lime juice in my rice, on my tortilla chips, on my tacos (chicken,beef and pork) and in my refried beans! 😂🤣🤷🏻♀️ I just can’t get enough of it lately. I actually started buying the little plastic lime bottle at the store because the limes were not always juicy and would sometimes go bad (like that lemon Chris gave you 😂), if I wasn’t cooking mexican food enough. Glad you are back out in nature. Hope Chris feels better soon! Take care! 😊❤️

I hope you guys realize how special of a relationship you have!! You two are at complete ease with each other. I had found the same recently only a friendship but made me understand how unhappy I was in my 32 year marriage. I may have lost the friendship I overshared about the marriage because I felt so comfortable with her. Hang on to what you have. I’ve just recently started watching you, have watched Chris since before Kobuck off and on. Hang on tight to someone who can make you laugh and smile like that.

I stumbled onto this video ... Yeah! What hooked me? The DOGS! I am picking up my "van" style RV on Saturday . . . Approximately one year from now, me and my kids = 9 dogs , will head out on our journey. I am 58 years young. Retired from teaching 01/01/24. 25+ years as a foster mom for dogs. ADHD but no longer on the meds (Big yeah!). I have not watched television since before the 2016 election. I have watched TONS of "living the van/RV/bus life." I can't wait to truly start this part of my life. I am Soooo proud of you! You are doin g things in a good order. Live Life First!
( I realized on February 21st that "now I can start living my life." I was sad for only a moment ... Then, I felt pure JOY! I can finally, totally, Live in the Company of my Dogs! I am living it NOW in my home as I Lighten up and prepare ! )

I lead a slower life now. I’ll be 70 in July. I’m not anxious to do a lot of serious exercising. Hiking yes but at a slower pace.
Yes, we should be in sync with nature. I use a grounding sheet when I sleep. Just plug it into the ground on any electrical outlet and it gives you a wonderful sleep, especially if you sleep naked or only in your underwear so that most of your body makes contact with the sliver threads in the sheet. I also have a grounding pad that I use to put my feet on when I'm working on the laptop. Otherwise, I go barefoot a lot. I've ordered a sort of 'tent' that goes over the bed that you can drape special EMF fabric over, and with the grounding sheet underneath you, you are protected from ELF/EMF and other frequencies that are not good for you. The reason many people feel so much better when they are out in the wilderness is because they are away from so much of these negative electronic frequencies.
So glad I could watch this before work today. Usually I have to wait til later in the week when I have a free half hour. It's Monday morning here in NZ!

Linnea, look up Wonderbag. Amaaaaaazing off grid alternative to crock pot when you're low on power. use your dutch oven and the wonderbag. heat it up for 5-10 min and it cooks for 8 hours. they also donate one to women in other countries who have a hard time accessing wood for fuel. I LOVE Wonderbags and used one for years off grid

I agree, crock pots are convenient! During the cooler months I always use mine and one of my favs is corn chowder. Always tasty on a cool evening. Enjoy your property and the adventures. 😎
I went out to the Arizona desert for Dec. and Jan. for the first time. Living in Honda Element. Unfortunately I had no source of heat and froze. Also had no solar so had to go to any place I could find to charge minimal electronics. I will NEVER go out again in the winter without power/solar, heat ad otther comfort like a recliner :)
I have been traveling full time with my hubby in our DiY van for almost a year and it has been inspiring to see all that you have accomplished with the purchase of the land and your international travels as well as being self sustaining for such a good amount of time in the remote areas you've been to. Let me know if you have a moment so that I can pick your brain on how to adapt to this lifestyle a little more gracefully🤣like you 🙌👌
