Shortly after you started painting, I thought how you weren't following/paying attention to the directions anymore as you painted on. Later I laughed out loud when you said something to the effect, "There, I've followed her directions as well as I could without going crazy." Such a delight, as always, Diane, with absolutely beautiful results!
Oh! I bought that book a few months ago and have worked my way through about half of it. It took a bit of work to figure out which of her techniques work for me and which don't, but overall I enjoy the book and there is a load of inspiration within it's pages. It was fun watching you do the roses!
Dear Diane, you are correct, that did work quite well, and it's always good to try something new and experiment, but if I'm to be honest, I'll say that for me, your style of painting is my favorite. Free, uninhibited, and you have a style you have that I can identify from all other artists. Thank you for recommending the book. It's lovely.
Sushma Hegde is an artist and nature lover from the colorful land of India. A few years ago she moved to Germany - Mannheim with her husband and passes on her knowledge of painting in (online) courses. Her images are inspired by morning walks, hikes and travel around the world. In this July 2024...She has her studio in Luxembourg, a house with an empty balcony space, she even grows flowers to paint...to enjoy the nature and its beauty.
Oh my gosh, I’ve had this book in my Amazon cart for a couple of months. I loved the cover too. 🌸Your review has helped me decide to go ahead and get it. Thanks Diane. Your roses turned out lovely.🥰
I have this book as well! I am enjoying it. I did have a little trouble with those roses, but now I have a few more tips. Very helpful! Yours came out lovely. Thanks!
I have this book as well...read through it, but have’nt tried her method yet. Rigosas are a lovely hedging plant. Very sturdy and hips wonderful for tea...My roses on second round of blooms just now; I might not like our weather but the roses, all varieties, have outdone themselves this year. Thanks again, Diane. Susan
I have looked at this book before and have it on my to buy/read list on Amazon. Well now I will be buying it thanks to your review and flower painting. I enjoyed your rose and think you did a wonderful job. I really like how you do your leaves too. I always learn something when I watch your channel.
I have this book, too, and I have been working my way through the book. Thank you for doing this, I have a habit of starting instructions and then wandering off. Thanks for doing this.
I love how you continue to try new things! Lifelong learner. And how generously you lift up other artists and authors! I feel like so often, artists find their niche, and that's the only perspective they ever teach from. But you're always transparent and say "l found this idea, let's try this." Your tutorials always feel fresh, your challenges inspire creativity, and I always learn something. You give us courage to try things. And in this case, I have to agree, it's hard to learn to paint from a book's instructions, but it's a challenge I think I'll have to try instead of avoiding because it's hard. Thank you!
I have just recieved my copy of this book after watching your video. What a fantastic book, very down to earth and interesting. Also, bought myself a bookstand from Amazon. Very similar to Meeden one but metal and only cost me £8. Thankyou for your great demo as always.
Hi Diane! I love the red rosehips with the pink roses! So beautiful! Thank you for telling us about the bookstand. I needed a better one and I have ordered the Meeden one. You always give the best suggestions and techniques. I like the book (I had it and forgot I had it), but I like the way you demonstrate and talk on UA-cam better! 🌺🥀❤
I enjoyed your spin on Sushma's pink flowers, your greens are always so lovely. You're not a "tight and controlled" painter, hence the loveless of your paintings. It's funny, when you showcase new or older art supplies, I find that I just bought them, or are using mine! There's a marvelous US artist in Fort Collins, Colorado, 2 hours from my Denver home, and she has stunning colorful and happy paints, especially her 18 set. All brilliantly named, and such reckless joy and abandon to paint with them! Her name is Lacey Walker, Unicorn Rebel, and she's quite talented, throwing pottery as well. She's lots of fun, and I find I use her 18 set frequently. I also purchased 2 sets of your brushes, which are also brilliant, Diane! Your flat is the biggest flat I own, and it's freeing to use them. LOVE your brushes, especially your rounds. All this said, I hope you managed to shoo away that pesky fly! Always a treat to hear your rooster, however. Be well, Diane, and thank you! Fanna
Around the same time, I started watching your channel ❤❤❤ for your relaxed perspective, watercolor knowledge, and true tutorial format, along with great conversations. I started watching this other channel for her complete commitment to detail and plant knowledge @LizzieHarperillustrator I am trying both techniques, and I would love to hear what you think of her type of watercolor painting.
Hi Peggy, I took a look at Lizzie‘s channel, thanks for the recommendation! She certainly paints in a very different style to me, purely botanically accurate with many layers apparently. For sure you will find your own way! And thanks very much for your support for my channel!
Your roses look so dreamy and happy -I had fun with your commentary as well 😊. I've followed Sushma on IG for years. She is indeed from 🇮🇳 and lived in 🇩🇪 for a while. I let her know about your video -she was happy about it. I think she is an engineer or industrial designer, she used to work on that while in 🇩🇪. I don't own the book yet but after seeing your book tour I have it on my wish list. Thanks Diane!
Hi Karen and thanks for your support! The rooster - well, we have TWO - both were rescued, one from a friend who was giving up chickens and one from a bad man who never fed his animals. We have enough space for them to each have a paddock and house of their own (because two cockerels together means bloodshed) but they are both very active crowers!
That is one lovely painting! The book looks interesting to me because there doesn't seem to be a whole ton of stuff crammed onto each page. I understand simpler, uncluttered teachings. Each page looks so pretty, light, clean, colorful. I am sorry you are having a crappy summer! :( We are having our typical desert heat waves. Even with ac all I felt like doing was just sitting here staring while you paint Lol. Heat drains me. Thanks so much for sharing this one, Diane
Lovely roses, Diane. I have this book, and it’s one I’ve thoroughly enjoyed. I keep it on my desk for inspiration, but when I’m uninspired I, of course, forget to glance its way!😢
So interesting to watch the roses develop as you followed someone else’s instructions. They turned out quite well. I suspect that it is a bit difficult, when you just want to move on with your own technique. Quite enjoyable post. Even the fly was interesting! I think its brother lives in Pennsylvania US!
Hi Diane! This is SO funny! You and I think so much alike! I bought this same book, spiral-bound, and have yet to paint from it, but you've inspired me with this tutorial! Now, on to you lessons! X Fanna
Oh wow! That’s a funny coincidence - when I found that book I did think it would appeal to many of us who follow my tutorials because somehow her flowers are similar (better!) than mine!
I've had this book in my cart for months. Still haven't taken the leap. Lol I really enjoyed your painting. Its very pretty! I also so appreciate how you create your stems - for the life of me, I cannot create a stem in one swift swoop like many do. Lol My hand shakes too much. I do them in quick, shorter strokes, much like you.
I got it today. It's on sale! I think I paid $14 roughly. Looking forward to trying it out. I can paint the most difficult things without many issues, but my flowers always look like a child did it. Hopefully this will improve my florals.
Sushma, she introduces herself on the web = Hello, I'm Sushma Hegde, a watercolor artist from Mannheim. I work full-time as an engineer, but after work I like to sit down with my paints and papers and get lost in my own little dream world. It is filled with flowers, mountains, forests and a beautiful sky. Beautiful roses, Diane. I think it must be quite difficult to follow someone else's instructions when you've been painting as long as you have and developed your own style and methods. Not that we can't always be learning and growing, but I think those of us who still have very little clue about what we're doing are more inclined to follow the step by step directions in a book like this. I'm looking forward to the day when my painting becomes more intuitive like yours, but I'm starting late in life! 😊
I painted with you today but I ned more practice. I’ll get there but so far- ugh. Oh I got a sheep t-shirt from your merch page and I love it. So cute. And it looks better in person.
I'm waiting for the flowers to dry but I thought I might suggest what I did. I'm an older painter with not the best eye sight. I either use dirty water or just put the lightest of tint on the brush so I can see where I placed the petals.
Bonjour Valerie! Je suis super contente de vous entendre! J’espère que vous appréciez le style de mes efforts! Merci pour votre soutien - c’est vraiment gentil.
Comment #3 for the day: I have had many stickers made of my paintings, Diane, and would like to gift some to you, but don't know where to mail them. What is best? I worked hard creating them, and they're loads of fun, and would love to share with you and Tamsin. xx Fanna
Hi Fanna, that sounds wonderful, I’d love to see them. Drop me an email at studio@dianeantone.com and I’ll send you my mailing address if you like xxx thanks so much for your support all these years!

I tried to stick to the guidelines but that’s all they are. So glad you enjoyed my ramblings again!

I have that book. I use it all the time. I love it. I can almost paint every flower in there. You will love it.
Dear Diane, you are correct, that did work quite well, and it's always good to try something new and experiment, but if I'm to be honest, I'll say that for me, your style of painting is my favorite. Finally a book with flowers looking at a side view. Count me in! Thanks Diane for finding this!
That came out lovely! That fly was sure having fun leaving footprints in the red paint. 🙂

Very pretty painting. I like it very much. Well done for following instructions. I find that quite difficult. 😊
I have this book. It is wonderful.
Thanks for all you do. Always interesting topics and projects.
I love seeing how you develop a painting. I bought the book and look forward to to trying some of the flowers. Love hearing the rooster!

Yes, I do that too. But I think that’s okay, because it’s better to do our own thing.
I think tour work is lovely, I always enjoy watching you

these flowers are so beautiful 🥰
Thank you! Cheers!
My daughter in law gave me this book recently and I've been enjoying it!! Nice to see you reviewing and trying it out!
Oh that’s great! So glad you saw the video - have you done the roses yet?
Hi Diane! I love the red rosehips with the pink roses! So beautiful! Thank you for telling us about the bookstand. I needed a better one and I have ordered the Meeden one. Diane you did a wonderful painting of roses, but you certainly would never need an instruction book. You do just beautifully on your own. ❤
It’s lovely. I tried to shoo the fly away i thought it was on my screen. Lol
I did too - but I KNEW it wasn't on my screen, but Diane's. 😂
I bought the spiral bound version, can hardly wait for the book to arrive.
I do have this book and I love it. This was fabulous watching your process doing something that I actually had in front of me. Thank you.
I went to Amazon to buy this book and realized I had already purchased it! I love it when things like that happen! Nice painting, Diane!
Beautifully done. Thank you for this demo.

Wow!!! I just love your work!! Awesome!!!
Loved watching you paint as always xx
It’s very pretty! And your friendly fly seemed to be enjoying the paint! 😉
First time I've ever seen fly footprints. Thank you for sharing. It turned out lovely!
Your painting is gorgeous!! Love this!
Love this honest review. Very helpful.

Kudos to you for sharing your experience following directions in a book. 😊 🎉 I find it very difficult to do that.
Thank you for introducing another book to us! Beautiful composition!
So pretty! The books looks like a good one! I love painting wild roses!

I like yours so much more! Thanks Diane. I always love your videos ❤️
I have this book!! I need to discipline myself to seriously work through it!!
I especially enjoy watching you paint with your own brushes as my set arrived here in Australia about a week ago!
Your roses are beautiful and thanks for recommending the book. I have ordered it.
Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you again. I’m even getting used to your rooster going on and on!
Hi Karen and thanks for your support! The rooster - well, we have TWO - both were rescued, one from a friend who was giving up chickens and one from a bad man who never fed his animals. Hi Diane I have this book too and find it very useful. I haven’t tried the roses but I will now that I have seen you try! Thank you ❤
Perfect timing ❤. I'm ready to make myself another reverse coloring page. 😊
Lovely roses, Diane. I have this book, and it’s one I’ve thoroughly enjoyed. I keep it on my desk for inspiration, but when I’m uninspired I, of course, forget to glance its way!😢
So sad I missed the brushes..😕😕. I live when you try new things!!!
This is absolutely beautiful, I really like this. The book is very nice. I will purchase for sure.
Great video! The wild roses remind me of the original painting I bought from you in the spring ❤
Awesome job as always! Really enjoyed following you! Thank you! Keep creating cheers ❤️🌸🇨🇦
