You are spot on about the role of chemists in Germany and Switzerland.
This is an interesting video, reminded me of my own career.
Just like the issues with waste disposal, cleaning chemicals mixed with solvents can lead to interesting exothermic reactions with a big cleanup necessary thereafter..

May I also suggest you read the Gulag Archipelago?
It is an interesting piece of literature as it shows how the „mob rule“ by one party affects empathy as a whole.

All these drugs are way too simple to make.
It's just advanced cooking, if you follow a guide, it's going to work, as the guide says 🤣

I'm not terribly concerned about money but I love chemistry. BTW graphitic carbon nitride is very easy to make and sells for $60/g.

Yeah, in my lab we just heat a 1:1 (weight) mixture of melamine and urea at 400C for a couple of hours. It doesn't take that much work to be honest.

It is very sad to see many of the European countries slowly succumb to the overreaching arm of government.

unless you have plenty of children, in Denmark chemists are just slaves, and the same is true for the rest of the european (soviet) union. If you have ambitions, you better flee from this mess. The next big financial crisis is probably a strong inflation and then a collaps of the euro.

    Hello Florencio Z,
I am about to start my BSc in Chemistry; alike you I am also fascinated with natures ability to manufacture many compounds within their own bodies. This is what grew my large interest in biocatalysis and organic synthesis in general; A lot of times during reading online I come across "Natural Product Research" and well, this is a dying/ underinvested field and I wish that was not the case. In terms of furthering my studies in my masters to ensure I stay on the right path towards working with this, what can I be doing now, who can I be reaching out to, etc; My end goal, well business wise would be to work in synthesis research in either germany or switzerland due to the relative size of the industry there and the current endeavours some companies are taking compared to those in the UK, although a few times I have heard there has been some novel work in Brazil; to wrap things up I would just like to say, I was prompted to write this comment today because your words have been inspiring; so please do not stop making videos. So, if you could give me some advice, what would it be?
    Many thanks,
    Daniel Winstanley

Hi Daniel, I am glad you found the video inspiring, that's its main purpose. The research projects in organic synthesis at universities belong to roughly two groups: (a) optimization of some reaction (a recent example would be J. Org. Chem. 2024, 89, 8500), and (b) synthesis of some demanding target compound (a drug, a natural product, etc) (like in J. Org. Chem. 2024, 89, 8782 or 8924). The students working on (a)-type projects learn very little chemistry, while those fighting with (b)-type projects learn a lot. So, although the synthesis of complex natural products may be of limited societal or scientific value it is the best training for young chemists, and will give you the best qualifications for a job in pharmaceutical research or process development. And if you watch all my videos, despite some of them being boring for the non-initiated, you may get a better feel about how chemists think in terms of electrophiles/nucleophiles, oxidants/reducing agents, and acids/bases. Then, there are many chemical companies in the UK, but of course also in CH, DE, and the US. I would rather stay in one of these countries. Good luck with your studies.

yes, it's tragic that we cannot choose where to be born. But at least, with the internet we can help and inform each other, and show what's possible. In the pre-internet time (and in particular in Franco Spain before 1975) we only got the information the politicians wanted us to get. Things are way better now....

Sollte man durchziehen ?

    • @synthesiswithflorenciozara1848
      @synthesiswithflorenciozara1848  23 дні тому

Also, weiter machen.
